I'll be posting from this one.

Lantern Lodge

So 3 important pieces of information!

1. For your profiles, if you don't have the full character sheet info in there, please post a link to the electronic version of the character sheet! Mostly for my information :)

2. Hannah has it correct, but you can create non-PFS profiles! This way, you don't have to use up a PFS character number to play here :) Just go to My Account, then go to the Messageboard Alias section and create a new alias! You may need to rename your PFS profile so you can use it for the messageboard alias, but as I don't think any of you have posted the 10 times required to lock the profile name, I think you all should be good :)

3. So there's an etiquette to Play by Post text. By using various forum tags, different speech or text is represented. All of the forum tags are actually below the forum post text box; you can see it by clicking on the show button next to "How to format your text"

Here's the quick and dirty version:
"Dialogue is bolded, and should have quotation marks for grammatical accuracy.", says the GM using [b ][ /b] without spaces.
Anything that's an aside or out of the gameplay should use the ooc tags by wrapping the text in [ooc ][ /ooc] without spaces.
I think character thoughts should be italicized using [i ][ /i] without spaces, thought the GM.

Click Me!:

If you want something to be somewhat private, you can wrap [spoiler =Title of Spoiler ][ /spoiler] without a spaces (except for the title). I'll use that occasionally to direct something to only a certain PC or not bog up the page.

To use Paizo's die roller, type in the dice expression between [d i c e ][ / dice], with no spaces.
Likelyhood of awesome: 1d20 + 111 ⇒ (12) + 111 = 123

Just in the character sheet section; Those don't need to be quick listed like the other stats.

Now that's everyone's posted, we'll get started soon! I need to do one last review of the character sheets, make sure everything looks good, and get some maps ready.

Thanks for your patience everyone!

As everyone goes about their normal days, there is a bit of excitement in the air. The annual Swallowtail Festival is about to begin; this year, the ceremony is particularly noteworthy due to the inauguration of the new church of Desna. The smell of various baked goods, the sounds of pavilions being decorated and children playing on the warm day is truly a blessing from the Star Dreamer herself.

All of you are noteworthy in town for dethroning the wandering huntress Shelelu as being the most exotic resident of Sandpoint. In various ways, though, you are all accepted, even if grudgingly. Some women scorn the wandering eyes of their husbands from curves of Orcetta, but the farmers adore her more for her ability to listen to the crops and aid their harvests. Even as a dhampir Urgathoan, Raven dutily performs her role as town undertaker, having been in town for nearly two years in that job. Ayanna nimbly performs various small jobs in town and bears the most scrutiny amongst the group due to her nimble fingers, but the children find her cute, playful energy endearing. KABOOM! arguably gets the most scowls and an equal amount of praise in keeping the junkyard rat free and mostly goblin free, himself excluded. Finally, Sivilief, the most diabolical of the local exotics, is skilled enough in his alchemy and does respectable business, even if haggling with the strangely scaled kobold is nigh impossible.

What are your preparations for the Swallowtail festival?

The fey, Orcetta, dances among the fields, stopping occasionally to perk up a weak grape vine or wheat stalk here and there. Though the festivities are yet to get into full swing, she can hear a music in the wind and it brightens her spirit. While ignorant of most of the civilized world and it's goings on, her curiosity and smile draws her to town from her usual home in the woods nearby. Her Keeper, barely able to keep the girl from growing too antsy, sent her with some supplies to see the festival and urged her to stay for a fortnight. So it was that she left her bag and not so readily useful items in a tree by the inn. The vines and flowers of her living rosewood armor were lovely and vibrant in this morning light. As the sun reached high into the sky, she stopped for a moment to bask in it's life giving warmth before deciding to head into town. Her first thought was the strange Sivilief and how she might have to drag him out of his dark and awful smelling shop.

Raven wandered the main street at a leisurely pace taking in all of the activity in preparation for the festival. Though she could not help but to sneer at the depictions of Desna, she was excited to see the festivities coming to fruition. It had been far too long since she had been able to indulge in even the most basic forms of debauchery without the suspicious eyes of the town upon her. She laughed at the thought of the squeamish fools. The town always seemed to pride itself on its image but she could see the darkness that they ignored.

Apparently her laugh had grown a little too manic as she noticed the usual distance allotted to her by the locals had increased. She took a special kind of pleasure in the fear that radiated off of the townsfolk when she passed. Stories of Dhampir always spoke to their thirst for blood but she found that the fear of others sated her in a way that little else could.

However, she was reminded bitterly of her current fate. Her existence here was tolerated only because of her willingness to perform those tasks that the town believed beneath them. Raven knew that if she were not able to make herself too valuable or too powerful to challenge, her time here would be short lived. Clerics of Urgathoa were not well known for their patience but she would bide her time for now.

@Orcetta: As usual, you get your common glances. Amongst the 'Aliens of Sandpoint' as the half-dozen of you are called, you are the most accepted. "Gr-gr-greetings.", smiles old woman, Niska Mvashti, escorted by her not quite as elderly daughter Koya.

Orcetta:

Niska, an aged druid woman with sorcerous fey blood, is the only one in town who actually knows what a leshian is. You two have shared herbal tea together in her large mansion in the southern portion of the central Sandpoint. Old when the town itself was founded, her longevity has surprised many, and druids from around the area seek her wisdom, often coming weekly for her counsel.

@Raven: The bright sun is uncomfortable to you, as it always is, and even as you walk through the town, the overall spirit of Sandpoint is high enough that your presence is not even ignored, but acceptable as some well-wishers hope to see you enjoy yourself and that, if Desna herself smiles upon the town, you might be changed with it. Among the few in town friendly to you, Abstalar Zantus, the new high-priest of Sandpoint, greets you as you slowly make your way through the bustling town. "Surprised to see you out and about, miss Rothven.", smiles the cleric. "What brings you out for the festival? You can't have changed your ways that easily."

Raven:

Besides the other Aliens, Abstalar Zantus is the most friendly to you. He is aware of your religious preference, although his love of debate and openness about other faiths leaves him to be not nearly as zealotous as some of Sandpoint's other residents. In fact, it was him who offered you the mortuary position.

Every year since arriving in Sandpoint Sevillief has been asked to rig up the fireworks for the Swallowtail Festival. He wanders around town setting up the small explosives and making sure everything is just right with them. He isn't quite sure what the locals think of him anymore; novelty, annoyance or pariah, but he is quite excited for this years festival.

He tacks a note to the residencies of the other "Aliens of Sandpoint" as well as taping a note to a tree containing some of Orcetta's things. He hopes the others will read his monthly note, but if last month's attendance at the "Aliens of Sandpoint" mixer is an indicator, he isn't holding his breath.

Aliens of Sandpoint Letter:

Fellow Aliens,

I would like this opportunity to point out that we survived yet another month among the humans. It's been two weeks since I snarled at my last human, but I am adapting. Go team. Unfortunately the City Council is still refusing to acknowledge my formal inquiry to create an official "Aliens of Sandpoint Anonymous" club so we can discuss our difficulties and remain united. I would also like to point out that attendance at my yearly "All Elves Suck" party was woefully under attended and I hope we can remedy this situation, only 275 days until the next one.

On a more immediate note I reckon you will all be attending the Swallowtail Festival and as you know, they ask me to create and deploy the fireworks every year. This year should be quite the spectacle, but I highly recommend you not inhale the smoke. Don't worry, no one will get hurt but they really should make me sign a contract about what additives they want me to use. Just carry a little Wismuth Salix with you on the off chance that you do inhale a little smoke. If you find yourself lacking any Salix, feel free to swing by the shop and I'll be able to help you out. I'll even give you the "Mutual Acquaintance" discount of 7% off. As usual this message will self-immolate in 3 minutes, Raven I suggest not reading it over the corpses again...

Your Friend Colleague,
Sevillief

GM Only:

Sevillief will be lacing the fireworks with Ghast Retch dust in an attempt to create a fair amount of nauseous attendees so he can sell more Wismuth Salix out of his store. Not sure how you want to run this as far as quantity per firework, or how many affected, etc. If this is something you don't think is possible let me know.

The festival! The festival is today Sqwauk!” KABOOM shrieked franticly barreling out of their small junkyard shack. “Get up ya lazy girl! We’re gonna be late.” KABOOM gives the shack a good kick and a hard rattle until the giant vulture within finally stirs awake.
“Sqwauk” squawked Sqwauk, as she poked her head out of their quaint home.
“And we definitely cant go looking like this” KABOOM replied, pointing out the dried meat on Squawks face and the tattered rags he was wearing. The long shanks would never approve
Excitedly he dives into a heap of garbage, tunneling around a few minutes before emerging. “Ooooh yeeah!!! That’s better. What do ya think girl?” He asked flexing his eyebrows. KABOOM now stood atop the heap preening in his “fresh” new wardrobe. A multicolored knit cap with a bent propeller sticking out the top, goggles with a cracked lens, and various colorful Varisian scarves. Squawk looks him up and down, cocks her head. “Sqwauwk!”
“Well what do you know about fashion?”

Raven could not help the smile that formed on her face upon encountering the high cleric. He was one of the few people who knew her devotion to the Pallid Princess though he never acted on the information. It was always reassuring to see hunger and desire overtake common sense, especially when it was the desire for knowledge. That one was easily overlooked until it was too late.

"Good day Abstalar. If it will put your mind at ease, I'm just excited to see the town shrugging off the tedious self imposed restraint they seem so set on. It may not be my particular flavor of vice but I do with what I have."

@Sevillief: A rotund man approaches you, a raised eyebrow as he sees you with your cart of fireworks heading to the launching area; you recognize him as Sandpoint's primary alchemist, Aliver 'Pillbug' Podiker. "Surprised they gave the fireworks contract to you, little thing.", Podiker barely acknowledging your presence. "Of course my abilities are beyond petty explosives, but I suppose someone had to get their claws dirty, 'eh?"

Sevillief:

Already established before your arrival, Podiker is partially responsible for the slow growth of your own business. He sells a variety of tonics and tinctures, and despite being of mixed Chelish and Varisian descent, full-blooded Varisians treat him like as one of their own and gets majority of their business.

@Raven: "Well, a celebration should be enjoyed by all.", smiles the priest. "I don't suppose you're actually going to mingle among the populace; I mean, the shock would cause me to faint I would think!", Abstalar poking a little fun at your reclusiveness.

@KABOOM!: "Eh, who'z dat?", a slurred voice calls out. You recognize the man as a half-orc named Gorvi, who runs a dungsweeper service in Sandpoint. "Oh, itz you, Boomy-hic!", the half-orc bellows, the distinctively smell of feces, refuse, and other trash coming from the red wheelbarrow he and four other vagrants are hauling.

KABOOM!:

Cocky and not afraid to get his hands dirty, Gorvi has been causing some trouble in town as of late, working drunk and staying that way in the various inns and taverns in town. Worshippers of Gozreh also have an issue with the man as he tends to keep things clean by dumping it into the coast waters. As the popular dump areas along the cliffs are near your hovel along Junk Coast, you two have met and have had something of an arrangement that any interesting garbage be sent your way for inspection first, a business arrangement Gorvi doesn't mind despite your status as, well, a goblin.

@Ayanna: As you walk through the streets of Sandpoint, the jovial attitude of the town is truly a bit of a pleasant site for you. Before she can get to far, though, a hurried man rushes over to you. "Ah, there you are!", he calls out. You recognize him as Cyrdak Drokkus.

Ayanna:

Cyrdak is the owner of the Sandpoint Theater, a majestic and impressive playhouse for the otherwise small size of Sandpoint. Indeed, it completes with the Magnimar and Korvosan theaters, a point that the larger-than-life owner takes pride in.

Recently, he's been trying to work on a new stage act, Cirque de Sarenrae, and your acrobatic skills along with your exotic beauty have caught Crydak's eye as a potential star for this performance. You two have had a meeting a week over the past month to go over stage directions and choreography.

"Now, I have an outfit and makeup artist ready for you before the performance at today's festival. I need you to sell it... to be the fiery kitten that shall entrance audiences before our first performance next month! Ready to get at 'em, tiger?"

And I don't know how I missed these updates... d'oh!

As the Aliens slowly make their way through town, the streets are bustling more than ever as various citizens finish preparations and early birds try to get great seats and first entries into the number of shows and contests.

The map has been added! I provided an initial list of locations, but if there's any other type of establishment you're looking for (weapon shop, grocer, spellcasting services, alternate taverns, etc.), let me know and I'll include them.

Also, this is your chance to do any last minute preparations before the festival! This can be done before the festival activities posted below.

Grand Lodge

Belhaim map combat map

Initially, the Festival opens with welcoming speeches from four keynote speakers.

First, Mayor Deverin welcomes everyone to the festival, visitors and all. She happens to quickly glance her eyes on each of you right around her portion of outside visitors and that everyone's appearance for the ceremony is appreciated; she even jokes that the workaholic tanner, Larz Rovanky, has managed to set some time aside to attend (to everyone's amusement aside from the stern-faced man).

Afterwards, Sheriff Belor Hemlock brings everyone down again with a solemn reminder of the previous fire that claimed the original church as well as several citizens in the blaze. This is followed by a warning of safety along the evening bonfire that will be setup.

The third speaker is announced: Lonjiku Kaijitsu, the head of one of the 'noble' families of Sandpoint. However, it is then announced that he will not be arriving due to illness, although gossip quickly comes up that 'oh, he just hates parties anyway'. He is then replaced by the flamboyant and entertaining Cyrdak Drokkus, owner and manager of the Sandpoint Theater. Opening with a comedic act that recaps the long process Sandpoint went through to finance and construct the new cathedral and ends with a promotion for his new show, Cirque de Sarenrae, starring Magnimarian diva Allishanda and introducing his newest acrobat and dancer, Ayanna.

The crowd's laughter and accepting nods to the ends with Father Zantus, Sandpoint's unofficial high priest of Desna, thanking everyone for their attendance and support before announcing that the festival will now begin!

Grand Lodge

Belhaim map combat map

At this point, the crowd goes to various tents and booths, trying their hand at various games of chance and skill. Sack races, hammer challenges, balance beam events, tug of war, etc., are all available for amusement. Few offer prizes other than bragging rights, but at this joyous occasion, that is just fine!

Sack race:

Organized by Olmur Danvakus, proprieter of the Grocer's Hall, several heats are setup for those who wish to outrace each other in empty potato sacks (with appropriately sized ones for kids and fellow halflings).

To play, I need a set of 3 Acrobatics checks!

Hammer Strength:

The classic test of strength of swinging a hammer with all of your might to hit a target and cause a weight to soar along a vertical post, dinging the bell if you have enough strength to do so. This event is setup by Savah Bevaniky, the owner of Savah's Armory.

To play, I need up to 3 Strength checks!

Balance Beams:

Arranged by Kaye Tesarani, owner of the brothel "The Pixie's Kitten", a set of darkwood and metal beams alongside each other are setup. A trio of judges include Kaye, Sheriff Belor, and Cyrdak. While Kaye and Cyrdak do have a mild interest in particularly skillful competitors, Belor's involvement is the stuff of gossip.

To play, I need a set of 3 Perform: Dance checks or Acrobatics checks!

Hide and Seek:

In this variation of the game setup by Sir Jasper Korvaski, manager of the Sandpoint Mercantile League, he hides a number of small red balls and everyone has to try and find them without touching, only using observation and memory to note each ball's location over a short period of time.

To play, I need a set of 3 Perception checks!

Tug of War!:

Organized into teams of three, each time tries to outpull the other, moving a colorful braid to their side across a pit of mud. Setup by Davriren Hosk, a retired hunter that manages the Goblin Squash stables, this even is always a popular one for spectators.

To play, I need 3 of you to agree! Each person must then give me a CMB roll.

Let me know which event you want to do and if you want others to help participate, such as for the Tug of War!, then make your rolls!

Ayanna rolls her eyes at the man. "Cyrdak, you know that I despise makeup. It makes my eyes itch!" She rubs her eyes with a wince- just the thought of having to paint anything on her face makes her eyes water! "The last time you had the grand idea to use 'makeup,' the black hair dye didn't wash out of my fur for a week! I looked like I had rolled around in a dirty chimneyplace!" The catfolk acrobat absentmindedly scratches at an itch on her arm as she fixes the man with a stern gaze. "If you insist that I look like some sort of royal songbird, please make sure that the colors you choose are NOT permanent and are SAFE for use on fur!"

Having spoken her mind on with regards to her dislike of face paint, Ayanna reaches her arms over her head and arches her back gracefully. It feels so good to stretch! "Now good sir, I would like to spend a bit of time with the seamstress before the opening night. I need to make sure that she doesn't forget to leave a hole for my tail! I'd hate to have to make any last-minute adjustments right before the curtain opens." She grimaces, remembering the lovely outfit with zero room for her long silky tail. She felt like a butcher when she had to take a pair of dull scissors to the back side of it to cut a hole for her tail, but there was nothing else to be done on such short notice. "I, however, can promise you that- if my eyes aren't watering and I'm not afraid of my outfit tearing at the seams while I tumble- I'll be able to devote more energy to dancing and acrobatics! Believe me, you will notice a big improvement when I'm not trying to rub eyes every time my back is turned to the audience!"

Grand Lodge

@Ayanna: "Of course!", Cyrdak responds, not missing a beat to the diva-esque requests. "I've made sure to have Jaspie to get a different set of colors, tested on rabbit skins first, so you should be able to safely clean yourself of the dyes.... heh, you did look like a bleedin' calico after that first test, though!"

After his light-hearted jest, he finishes. "And I had the tailor, Ryynshinn, modify the tights to let your furry appendage run free, but the dress must be spared! It won't get the right twirl with your tail sticking out, but hopefully it'll be more comfortable, boohbie.", the man smiling as he acquiesces to your requests.

Ayanna:

"Jaspie" is Sir Jasper Korvaski, paladin of Abadar now manager of the Sandpoint Mercantile League. It's a not so secret rumor that the two are more than friends, something that has had the conservative Scarnetti family of Sandpoint attempting, and failing, to have the otherwise well-liked paladin ousted from his appointment. Of course, you know more of this first hand due to your keen ears picking up the sounds of evening passion from the two men while resting in your studio inside the theater.

Should the child prove to not be a nuisance in the future, she would try to give her the benefit of the doubt. Despite her enjoyment of mindless fear, she also liked to see unbridled curiosity that allowed people to look beyond naive convention. It was refreshing given the trappings of this town. However her smile lost what little warmth she could muster as she turned to the paladin. "I would be surprised if it didn't."

She gives a curt nod and turns to Orcetta. "Indeed they are. Of course being that low to the ground likely gives an advantage."

The rest of the Aliens simply watch the games, finding themselves either too busy or too disinterested to attempt any of them... although KABOOM swears that using the right amount of explosives would improve his ability to ring the bell at Hammer Strength.

While the games are going on, the crowd makes its way to the town square, where Father Zantus leads a number of acolytes that push a covered wagon. The priest regales the crowd with a tale of a blind child that nursed Desna to health when the goddess fell to earth, and the goddess rewarded the child with immortality as a butterfly. At this point, the wagon cover is released; a storm of swallowtail butterflies that spiral into a swarm of color over the crowd.

The various tavern owners then harken to the crowds, offering free lunch in an attempt to win new customers besides try to feed the large group of people!

Pick a line!

Fatman's Feedbag:

This line is short, although those in the line are devout in the seedy bar's offering's. Braised cabbage, greasy from the large helpings of venison sausage, are the main offering along with a side of dry bread (to soak up the grease) and mug of frothy, though lukewarm beer. However, the servings are ample and those hungry will get their fill.

The Rusty Dragon:

This is the longest line of the bunch, with numerous people waiting to try the exotic cuisine from the tavern's owner, Ameiko Kaijitsu. Whispers tell that of a curried salmon on top of a bed of lemon rice and a glass of iced chai tea to wash it down.

The Hagfish:

Arguably the town's most popular tavern, it also serves among the best seafood in town. Jargie Quinn, the one legged owner of the Hagfish, offers lobster chowder, supposedly from shellfish caught this morning. A hefty piece of homemade bread is served along side this hearty soup.

Cracktooth's Tavern:

Ran by the large, yet witty Jesk 'Cracktooth' Berinni, this tavern is popular among theater patrons given its location adjacent to the Sandpoint Theater. Jesk has prepared a number of finger foods for sampling, including cucumber sandwiches, honeyed-sweet rolls, and slices of ham stuffed with creamed cheese.

The White Deer:

This tavern, ran by a former Shoanti hunter, is arguably the nicest establishment, but the gruff, imposing looking owner, Garridan Viskalai, tends to keep others at bay despite low prices for the ample accommodations. Cooked by his wife Beryne, the Shoanti man has peppered venison and a side of cooked mashers.

Having finally finished setting up the fireworks and removed himself from the company of that overgrown human, Sevillief decides to try his hand at Hide and Seek.

Raven quickly made her way to the Rusty Dragon. Though it grated her nerves to wait, she wanted to try the new food.

Sevillief does better than Raven, finding a couple of the hidden balls. "Not bad.", smiles Sir Jasper at the kobold. "I would have expected you to do have keener eyes, though." Raven's assumption that the lower height is an advantage seems to still hold true.

Both of them enjoy the spiced meal from the Rusty Dragon. Ameiko gives both of them a friendly smile along with the wooden plate of delectable food. "Enjoy and know that there's always a welcome table at the Rusty Dragon!"

The taste is enjoyable to both Aliens, while KABOOM, Orcetta, and Ayanna seem to be lost in the crowd.

After enjoying the meal, the town center gets crowded as people fill for the final ceremony and fireworks show. Sevillief gathers the Aliens together, granting them a warning and a sinister wink with a toothy smile.

The sun begins to set as Father Zantus goes to the central platform to recite a prayer of consecration, saying several words of Desna's blessings and ending with the Prayer of the First Dreaming. Afterwords, fireworks shoot out into the sky!

The colorful bursts earn ooh's and awes from the crowd, although the colorful particles come down, causing many of the crowd members to start coughing, then vomiting, while others shudder and sneeze.

Despite the warnings, KABOOM seems to be afflicted with the same coughing and vomiting fit while all of the Aliens seem to be shuddering from a strange wretched stink in the air.

Out from the sounds of sickness though are screams. A demented song can be heard, the sounds of slicing into flesh and bone audible. Green bulbous heads sprouting from all over the grounds. Goblins have invaded Sandpoint!

Out from behind a fruitstand near the common, a trio of goblins leap out, although one barfs out a half-eaten rat and a number of bugs. Nonetheless, the crowd panics, although much slower than normal due to their temporarily weakened states!

Two of the goblins move up, one spewing chunks onto a small child, licking his lips of bile hungrily with a crude, butcher-knife like weapon drawn. Another looks at Ayanna and points. "Me want kittyshanks for din-din!", shooting at her with an arrow.

A new combat map has been added! You should be able to edit, so feel free to move yourself as necessary. Also, if your name is bolded, go ahead and post; I'll sort your actions in turn order. If another player's action invalidates your own, I'll try to redirect things as best as I can, or ask if there really needs to be a new post.

@ Sevillief: You're bolt goes high, your interest in not hitting the child (not worth the attention, especially with the poison involved).
