Anyone entering the altar room will be under the effects of a Zone of Truth. spell.
Other Loot on Faxon:

One of the keys unlocks the double doors: This semi-circular room has been outfitted with demonic decorations. The green glass lanterns hanging over the walls give the room an eerie glow. A brazen minotaur head hangs from one wall above an altar covered with wavy-bladed knives and curved bulls' horns, while star-shaped symbols in red decorate other walls. A large wooden chest sits near the west wall.
Ugg, I've had a nightmare time with internet and computers for the last month. My desktop died New Year's day and I've dusted off my 6 year old laptop. Updating Ubuntu as we speak. Finally resolved the internet dispute with my landlord today, so I'm fully online. Now I've got to spend the next week tracking down drivers, installing WINE and generally attempting to get all my Windows games to work in Linux. Fortunately, I keep all my data backed up both in the cloud and on a couple of jump drives, with a spare copy of Herolab on my iPad.

Descending the staircase, you enter a semi-circular room, empty save for a bookcase and a desk and chair sat in one corner. A huge set of wood and metal double doors stands in the south wall. The tiefling sitting at the desk looks up from his paperwork as you enter, I'll need a full report of your activities over the past week. You can put all valuables acquired over by the bookcase. Don't stand there with a blank look on your faces. The sooner we get this over with the sooner you get to catch some sleep and the sooner I can finish my reports.
Verim approaches the locked door and shouts the pass phrase. For a few seconds nothing happens, then a wrenching sounds as a bolt is thrown back and the door is opened by a young man in chain armor. He quickly ushers everyone inside. Bedrolls are in the corner, you can find someplace to sleep after you report in to Faxon. the man says, gesturing past his companion towards a staircase along the back wall. The ground floor of the tower is open to the air - a tangle of wooden supports above being all that remains of the buildings upper stories. Two rubble filled pools flank a central walkway that crosses an open area with a few shelves, a desk, a chair, and a flight a stairs heading down.
Departing the Defender's Heart with daybreak, the group carefully makes its way to the nearest location mentioned in the captured letter, the Tower of Estrod. This 60' diameter tower of dull-gray stone has had its upper levels sheared off by some tremendous force, leaving only the lower floors as a broken stump. To the north lies a mound of rubble, the remains of the towers upper floors.
I went out drinking a few times when I was younger. There are just times where it is appropriate (pulling into port for a 3 day R&R while in the navy). But I've never been able to drink beer and have not touched anything the past 20 years. Even when I was younger, going out drinking was a special occasion, not something I did very often. Hell, ( was even known to take a book to the local strip club. Surprisingly, that actually got me a date once. The girls actually came over to talk to the guy not busy drinking and ogling them.
I've been playing Beyond Earth in my downtime. And I finally managed to beat Civ 5 on Immortal. Other than that, most of my time is spent either on work or getting everything prepared for my Christmas vacation. I'll be spending a full week in Maine with my wife and daughters. On a related note. I won't have any internet from Dec 20 until December 29. I disconnect while on vacation and devote all my time to family.
Four giants have emerged from the building atop the hill. Three hill giants and another, larger giant smoldering with fire. The hill giants move to man a trio of ballista. The fire giant moves toward a trio of chained mastodons, each of whom is smearing in a thick layer of tar. It is approximately 120' between the towers and the ballista, The mastodons are half that distance, on the ramp.
Arris' hail of arrows drops the remaining giant and peppers his mount with several arrows dropping it. Stepping up, Malakan quickly finishes off the remaining mammoth. Above you, on the hill, more giants are gathering and heading in your direction. You can rush forward to meet them, or have several rounds to prepare.
Riderless and having been hit by Garris repeatedly, the mammoth goes nuts, screaming and bellowing as it flails at the dwarf hurting it. Gore: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (1) + 19 = 20 for 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (1, 6) + 11 = 18
Unable to reach the man throwing things at him the giant urges its mount to charge the only opponent he can reach. Gore: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (17) + 21 = 38 for 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (5, 1) + 11 = 17
Looks like 67 damage to Garris, minus any DR Further up the hill, giants are beginning to rouse, alerted by the sounds of screaming mammoths and giants.
The Defender's Heart is a large, but crowded Inn. Most of the crusaders here wear the insignia of the Eagle's watch, with occasional crusaders from other units and several high ranking members of the city watch. Many merchants have also found refuge here and, while their wares are limited they are willing to conduct business and assist their defenders as best they can.
The trip to the Defender's Heart is quick and relatively uneventful as the party manages to avoid several large groups of cultists and demons. Approaching the sturdy stone inn, you find the building barricaded with a half-dozen crusaders standing guard. Additional crusaders stand guard in the upstairs windows and on the rooftops. |
