Pathfinder 1E Interest Check - Tian Xia: Eyes of Ruin

I wasn't sure if I wanted to go gunslinger or not. I do have a ranged option, a Legendary Samurai (Yumi Sniper) | Swashbuckler (Arrow Champion).

I think the Samurai classes on one side are going to be a hugely popular choice overall for people - they're fighter-like enough that they make a good, generic side to a gestalt.

Lol. Not quite at that level of badass, though.

I hadn't considered a Saitama build. Guess that's something to do this evening.

If you want to "one punch" people, barring Mythic Vital Strike, Brawler levels are a must for Knockout.

I'm sticking to my Ki Blaster Hadouken build. I do hope I have the chance to try it though.

So I have both good news and bad news. The tl;dr is that things happened and the primer is screwed, but I'm still willing to run the game.

Let's start with the bad news. The hyperlink problem was fixed by the file's physical address being moved. The bad news is that the 32-page primer, all of the rebalanced playable races, and even the new campaign traits are gone. The file somehow screwed up after the address move and it is now 839 pages of what looks like coding gibberish. Lots of numbers, letters, accents, and blank boxes. There are some RBG letters and values, so I am sure that it's raw code. Not sure what happened, but I don't think that's getting fixed. Had a support ticket up that went nowhere.

The good news is that I am still planning on running the game. It's going to be quite a grind retyping all of that up since I did a lot of it on my phone while I was at work through Google Docs over several weeks. I should be a little quicker at it since I have time off for the holidays. I can't guarantee that it will be within the next week, but I can tell you it's still on. I'll keep a hard copy on my laptop so I can avoid that problem again.

Please let me know if you are a tech person who might know what the problem is. I can send screenshots of some of the chaotic gibberish that the document has turned into through Imagur or something. I know it probably can't be fixed, but I want to know what the problem was.

Oh no! :(

Did it save any kind of version history, if you're on Google Docs? If you click up on the "Last edit was X time ago" link at the top of the doc it should bring up a version history, so you might be able to recover an earlier version of the document. If you moved it around, though, that may not be possible (and if it's not Google Docs it's definitely not possible).

Did it change the file name to gobbledygook too? Something like ~!@n Xia Primer or whatever?

Sometimes Doc swill copy over "two versions" of a file; one of which is corrupted gibberish and the other of which is fine. Check the actual Google Drive folder on your computer(s) and see if there's one whose title is intact. The file should also be fine.

Almonihah

It doesn't have anything under it so I assume that there is no earlier version since it was moved.

Storm Dragon

The name is gibberish too, yes. Your fix didn't work, but it makes more sense to me now why it screwed up in the first place.

Hi Ash, this looks great!

Would you consider the Onmyōji class?

EDIT:

Oooof! Just saw about your doc issues. Sorry to hear! It sounds like you composed in Word and then tried to upload to Google Docs. Is that correct?

gyrfalcon

I forgot all about the Onmyoji somehow despite it being really neat. I will add it to the list of side-locked classes when the recruitment goes up.

Hm. I run into this issue fairly often myself (I use Google Docs for work, and transfer between my home work computer and work work computer) and that has almost always solved the problem before.

Did you move to a different computer, or just move it from your computer to docs?

If the former, boot up Google Drive Sync on the NEW computer and see if it corrects the issue once it connects them properly; that's also a common issue I run into.

What's the file type of the document (i.e. pdf, docx, doc, txt) and what program did you create it in (I know you stated that you did alot of it on your phone, but if we know what program it was created in, that would probably be a good place to start on fixing it so you don't have to retype it).

One thing you might want to try right fast is just reopening the document in whatever program you were using on your phone and try recovering it in that program. Most text programs will usually have a recovery tool, and they'll usually get somewhat close (so you might have to, say, delete some garbage characters, but you will be able to see the majority of your text).

Aw, man...

GM, what lvl cap were you thinking of?

Uh sorry to hear your work got lost there. Sucks.

Yeah, that's a bummer. But as others have mentioned - google docs should have a rollback feature. Let's hope it works : )

I’m still super interested, even if I have to wait another few weeks to see the official recruitment!

Same here.

I occur.

But Patience is the Rear Admiral!

Just thought I would let everyone know where things stand. The primer is back up to about 10 pages out of the 40-ish that it was so far. So progress is being made, however slow. It would be faster if the holidays weren't as jam-packed as they are this year.

If you have a copy of the original file you can send me, I can try to repair it for you (I offer cause I assume it was all player info anyway).

Damn these holidays! :P

But seriously thanks for your hard work. And for providing an update : )

Indeed, that's a ton of work you're doing!

I'm back up to roughly 20 pages of the player guide for you all. Just keeping you in the loop while the holidays roll by.

Glad to hear it, still very excited for this one. Happy holidays everyone.

likewise.

Since I am done with the player's document for the day and I have about half an hour before I go over to my grandmother's house to have our Christmas movie marathon, I want to touch on a few changes and additions I have made in this write-up. It's not a huge list, but here it is. More things might be changed or added as I get closer to finishing up the player document.

Changes

- Technology is more prevalent in the setting. Most nations have access to firearms. That doesn't mean that other weapons are phased out. Far from it. Just like the people of the Sengoku and Tokugawa Eras in real-world Japan, most people adhere to the more traditional ways of combat. Firearms are much more common in segmented military units, the setting expy of the Yakuza, and among more daring "adventurer" types that shun tradition in favor of flair or utility.

- Changed the layout of Tian Xia some. It now resembles a true world more than a single continent. This makes more sense given the massive changes that happened during the Great Sundering and the expansion of the broken shards of Golarion during the Making of the Spheres.

- Changed my stance on races. I am adding in a few extra races because they fit the setting. Androids are the biggest new race being allowed in because of the Lands of Ice having much higher technology in this write-up.

- Made a few tweaks to the character creation rules. Nothing major, but they are there.

Additions

- Added a few new player races, including the Leaf Children. The Leaf Children are based on Nioh and Princess Mononoke's Kodama and will be one of the few races of a different size.

- Added in two more continents to Tian Xia's world so I could add in more cool stuff.

- Made a list of all the holidays in Tian Xia's world.

- Made individual timelines of general history for each nation's top ten most important events since the Great Sundering.

Sounds like interesting stuff we can't wait to see : )

Thanks for the update!

Oooh, liking what I'm hearing.

I hadn't even considered the existence of a Yakuza in this setting. I may amuse myself by making another character. I've been on a bit of a Yakuza kick this past year (working through all the games starting from 0; nearly done with Yakuza 3 now) so I may make myself a noble Yakuza sort.

A Majima-alike might be fun to play in a game like this.

Slightly missed the edit cutoff, but a Prodigy//Striker seems a perfect fit with the Dueling, Dual Wielding, and Boxing (or Open Hand?) Martial Spheres and Blood Sphere.

Everything sounds good to me!

Can't wait for it!

Oh, one thing I was thinking of--for the unarmored AC boost, what if you simply allowed everyone to take unarmored training from Spheres of Might? It might be a little easier than trying to adapt that rule from the 3.0 Unearthed Arcana you were looking at. (And apologies if this was already suggested)

Happy New Year everybody!

Guess we'll have to do this again in about a month :D

Do what again?

New Years?

Yes. Lunar New year is coming up and I think that's the one that would be celebrated in this brave New world

Is this campaign still recruiting?

Official recruitment hasn't started yet. The GM ran into some technical issues with their computer that caused them to lose close to 40 pages of important campaign info. They have been working hard to retype it all up.

Any updates, because this sounds awesome?

Update time!

The player manual has bumped up to 43 pages so far. There's a few more things I want to touch on in the document as well. It's looking like it will be about 45-50 pages altogether.

Nice! Do you have an estimate on when the recruitment will start?

Wow! This is a crazy amount of work you're putting in.

And of course the delay has meant I now have almost half a dozen character concepts I kind of want to build. XD
