I also understand it's GenCon. I don't think this timing was intentional, but it did hit them at the worst possible time. They are already quite busy and were blindsided by this. I don't expect a lot about this until perhaps after GenCon, maybe just a mea culpa for now, and something more in depth next week.

Some were blindsided, yes. We saw that in those employees sharing Diego and Sara's posts on Twitter that they were no longer with Paizo.

To the folks that terminated Sara Marie and saw Diego walk because of it, they have only themselves to blame for doing it the week of Gen Con.

I'm very glad I don't have to make the decision on whether to run games or not for Paizo live at GenCon this year. While there are events that are *safer* than others, I don't think sitting around tables in the Sagamore was on the list for me this year.

It looks like the Young Ahuizotl (low tier) has an error in its statblock. The jaws are reduced to +14, but the claws and tail claw are still +17 from the normal Ahuizotl (high tier).

My crafting focused wizard made the investment of crafting a Wand of Mage Armor (1st) after he got Magical Crafting as a feat. He bought the formula, put down half the cost in base materials, spent 4 days preparing, made his crafting check, and then ran out the days of downtime until he had finished crafting the total cost of the weapon. Now, he could use his wand to cast Mage Armor once each day, without using the spell slot, huzzah.

This worked great, until last scenario when he hit level 7. He can now heighten Mage Armor to 4th to get the bonus to saves. Now, he is back to casting Mage Armor each day, and the wand is superfluous.

Can he sell the wand? If so, what is the base cost for the 1/2 sell back (base materials he put down, or full cost of the wand)?

In the encounter with Murta she gives her cloak to the PCs if they get a crit success in influencing her. That section lists 3 treasure bundles in the table on pg 26. The treasure section on pg 11 lists 200 gp (and possibly the cloak).
Do the PCs need to get the cloak for the 3rd treasure bundle, or is the reward for returning her assumed to be the full 3 bundles?

I was thrilled that there were tutors at the Grand Lodge for wizard to learn any common spell from. We no longer had to buy a scroll to do so, just pay the cost to Learn a Spell.
I think, just like I've been the only person paying for copies of formulas, you were probably the only person doing this =\

So... to clarify: if I have a character who is a member of the Swords but wants to get a healing potion for his consumable, my only option for doing so is to "forget" to pick something?

Does it really make sense to have that incentive built into the game?

Why would you describe it as "forgetting"? It's just another option. Your school had items, and there's a baseline of standard items everyone can choose. You get to pick from one or the other.

It's a quirk of Warhorn not really being designed for an event of this size. If you click on Saturday as an individal day, you'll see there are games all day.

Here are the Sunday games

Fame is a spendable resource. You gain Fame for getting stuff done in the adventures.

Reputation is how much people in Faction X think you're cool. You gain Reputation for the faction you represent on an adventure, depending on how much Fame you got in that adventure. This never goes down.

Depending on how high your Reputation is, influences how much Fame you can cash in with that faction for some bonus (faction boons).

There is an "all factions" list that totals your Reputation from all the factions. Think of this one as how much the Society as a whole thinks you're cool.

The Appendices are all over the place on giving incorrect names for the NPCs:
Web Stalkers vs Web Lurkers
High Tier Chops statblock refers to Brute
Rebel Brutes in High Tier Encounter C refer to Elite Rebel Brutes in their statblock

Low tier in the waterworks is especially bad where it calls out different tactics for Rebel Brutes and Rebels. Then, we have stats for only Waterworks Rebels.

This is a definite trend in PFS2 Appendices.

Will there be future adventures with the full SF ruleset incorporated, or will this only use the beginner box rules?

Rogues quickly become the undisputed masters of skills. They get more skill upgrades and skill feats than any other classes.

A rogue should be hitting as often as any non-fighter, as they're trained and have lots of reason to boost Dex for their key ability score with finesse weapons, or brute rogues with strength as key.

Correct

I was lumping in Special Mega con boons and RSP select boons in together as "Chase"

there is no doubt there are people chasing after several of these boons as evidence in the trading forum

from the gentry perspective, these seem to be treated as surprises and are suddenly playable at the table before many players even knew they were available...
again, reinforcing my interest in a codified list of what's available

I still don't understand your word choice of "chase" and "RSP select".

Yes, there are GM only boons at PaizoCon, Origins, and GenCon. This year year the first 2 weren't even races, but I can't speak for the latter.
There have also been quarterly rotating GM boons at smaller Cons since SFS came out.
RSP supported stores have also had an option where you could GM enough games to unlock a new race.
I'm not sure why any of these would be surprises. Especially the RSP ones, since you have to GM multiple games to unlock them. The current RSP boon for GMs is not a secret. It's an Uplifted Bear.

AcadeCon 2019
Hey friends, the folks at RPG Academy are putting on their 7th annual convention, once again at the Dayton Convention Center.
I'm trying to step up the Org Play Foundation presence over what we've seen in past years.
We're gonna try to get all 4 games happening that weekend.
The sign up for events should go live on the AcadeCon website in ~2 weeks. But you can get badges now.
We have all 3 Seeker scenarios from PFS Season 10 planned in 6 hour slots, a bunch of Season 2 of SFS, as well as the new PFS(2) scenarios. We'll also be attempting to run PACS for the first time and hope to generate some new interest there.

If you're interested in coming to play, or help out as a GM, don't hesitate to ask any questions.

This is one of the few things Thursty has ruled on that I disagree with. I have 11 SFS characters, because I've played 1-01 3 times and GM'd it 8 times. I've played 6 of them. 2 are large piles of GM credit (currently 9th and 5th level). I can't apply any capstone boons to any of those remaining 3 characters, who only exist because I GM'd 1-01 and so created a new PC.
I fully support being able to apply a capstone boon to any 1st level PC. I'll happily bypass it for my level 2+ characters that are GM babies. But it would be nice not to have to make 712 and play/GM 1-01 again, just because I've hit the capstone for Luwazi and the Dataphiles with my main PC and GM pile.

We often see these threads pop up before the major cons. I didn't see one, so I made one.

I have a group of 4 with Tier 1-2 tickets.
Melee soldier, hacker operative, drone mechanic, and my GM credit TBD. All level 2.
Seeking 2 more players.

As one of those folks with discount vouchers from Origins, I'm really looking forward to being able to drop it all on stuff at the GenCon booth. Pre-ordering 2E and the new SFS drops would be super advantageous to me.

I see how it is, no mention at all of me using the studious BioHacker ability to apply 2 injections to give a -2 AC and acid vulnerability to the rancor and dragon :-P
The acid vulnerability paired with a Vanguard is a significant damage booster. And, I wish I had figured it out before we were 2/3 of the way through the 2nd fight.

In reality, aside from that trick, my character was basically supplemental damage (5d6+15) and minor debuffs that were usually penalizing AC so the Vanguard would hit more frequently.

I played a bioHacker at 4, 8, and 14 in playtest. When I absolutely, positively needed to deliver a boost to an ally (it was always a breakthrough, there was never a NEED for an injection). I walked up and jabbed my ally without an attack roll. Yes, it introduced me to more danger. Yes, it required being within walking, or later, flying range of my ally. But, if my Breakthrough was that much of a game changer, the risk was worth it.
Your adamant refusal to acknowledge the BioHacker has a no attack roll option weakens your argument.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It sounds like you were running the durations awfully short. I'm assuming you have a 20 Int at 8th level. That would mean the counteragents go for 2 rounds and your restoratives for 5. You would need to shoot the boss only every 3rd round to keep the confusion up and you'd have 5 rounds for your allies to use the +2 to skills.

"Each field’s breakthrough ability
functions as an injection, but using a breakthrough doesn’t expend one
of your injections’ daily uses."
Injections are broken into restoratives and counteragents.

For Protective Restoration it gains a benefit for "Any restorative you successfully use on an ally".

If you use a breakthrough on an ally, would it gains the benefit of Protective Restoration?

...

And can we get clarification on loading a pistol with injections and then full attacking?

Xenocrat wrote:

Probably because the restorative gives +2 enhancement to all skills, including for allies. They pay for it by not having their own insight bonus. And if they did, it would probably be medicine (only useful at low levels, when the bonus isn't high) and life science (too useful for identifying All The Living Things with their Custom Scanner).

As it is, they can take skill focus/synergy for insight bonuses of their choice (and front load them rather than wait for natural growth to the +2/3 level) and put an additional +2 enhancement on them as needed. That's plenty of skill power and especially versatility.

Their +2 enhancement will get them through the lower levels, sure. But the other classes eventually get the following:

Envoy - Expertise +1d8+4 to 6 skills (chosen from subset)
Mechanic - Bypass +6 to Engineering/Computers
Mystic - Channel Skill +7 to their connection's 2 skills
Operative - Operative's Edge +6 to all skills
Solarion - Sidereal Influence +1d6 to 6 skills (but only 3 at a time)
Soldier - Nothing
Technomancers - Techlore +6 Mysticism/Computers
Vanguard - Aspect Insight +2 to 2 skills (through Aspects)
Witchwarper - Compound Sight +6 to any 2 chosen skills

This means a Biohacker will never be able to compete with any of the skill classes on their respective bonus skills once we hit the mid levels and beyond.
Yes, for Int skills, they'll be good versus the other classes that don't have Int as a Key ability score, but that doesn't alleviate the difference with Mechanics and Technomancers. And we know, nobody's touching the Operative on skills anyway.

While their Enhancement bonus is definitely more flexible, and can be given to others (amazing!), it's limited uses per day.

Not saying this is necessarily a detriment to the class, they'll have almost as many skill ranks as an Operative, and good flexibility. It is however, a divergence from the way all other non-Soldier classes in Starfinder have been presented.

I do not know. It has been confirmed to the RVC staff and to a group who happened to be standing near Tonya when she responded to the issue at Gen Con. I do not have the access to add it to a blog post or update any sticky threads where it would be most visible. I can only confirm what I know to be true.

EDIT——actually it made it into the Guide v10.0 on page 16, left column, 2nd paragraph (step 5), of the section on Filling Out a Chronicle Sheet...

I know it's probably outside the realm of possibility at this point, but I'd like to reiterate that while SFS RSP has only had 1 player boon, PFS currently has 4 (we all know it's really only 2 though). At least the illusion of choice would be nice.
But, if there only being 1 means I can finally give out something at the table beyond Relics of Lost Golarion, I'll take it.

I just wanted to say that I much preferred it when there was a "player" tab and a "GM" tab. It was much easier to search if I could narrow down to something I played versus something I GM'd. The new change of combining both together means I have more pages to search through.

I seriously hope we'll see a way to replenish our Novas.

To add to the list, I've used my first one, but that was because I was on vacation in LA and wanted to play for credit there *cough, worldwide Explorer boon, cough*

I'll probably be using my 2nd Nova for GM credit of the Special again at a local Con after having GM'd it at Origins.

My experience from overseeing and wandering the tables, is that roughly half the tables went to Dinosaur Planet, while the majority of the remaining tables were evenly split between starship combat and the remaining missions. The tabulations are a bit skewed when shown live, because the starship combats tend to take longer. That being said, gee howdy, we have a lot of tables who went all in on starship combat for this special!

I'd like to think my table and the charity boon Manticore Ship influenced this. Every time we were given an option we went for Starship.

I fully support this topic. I understood the singular boon for the first year of SFS, but when we got no new RSP boons it was disappointing. While mutliple people view some of the PFS RSP boons as being less desirable (looking at you Xenophobia and Xenophile) at least there is a choice on the PFS side.
I sincerely hope that the folks in charge are looking at ways to expand RSP support for SFS.
