I often have players wanting to play something that'd traditionally be an NPC role, like the merchant who needs escorting or the aging wizard who shuffles along and is likely to die if someone sneezes on them.

The aging wizard is one thing; that's a perfectly pratical character type that won't be any problem. The merchant who needs escorting; that's very different question, and it's very easy for it to be a problem. When you have a character who isn't an "adventurer" along, but they're travelling because they want/need to do X, what happens when another character wants to do Y? Does the person who isn't an adventurer turn into one long enough for that to be done? Do they go off to do their own thing for a while, which is pretty awkward for a GM to handle? Or is it a matter of other PCs not having any real say in what the group does, because this one PC is only along for a particular sort of event and anything not related to that means they aren't able to participate properly?

Mass Effect 3 actually had two separate covers on release, one with Male!Shep and one with Fem!Shep. Either that or it was two sides to the same cover.

Anyway, I think it counts.

The case on my Collectors' Edition has ManShep on one side and FemShep on the other, and I think it counts. Though I was forgetting Runequest, where both 2nd and 6th edition have a woman fighting on the cover - though the UK 2nd edition put her in a bikini for some reason.

now one complaint I had with Dragon Age is being a female character you where basically cut off from 1 of the possible choices on how the game ended (3 instead of 4 if memory is correct) This I had a problem with but for some reason I cannot speak what it is now as that was a few years ago.
I don't know why you had a problem with it because that particular ending required you to impregnate Morrigan, which if my memory of biology serves, females can't do.

Yes that was the one but my feeling is give those of us that played a female a different path that men did not have. Balance it

There actually was a female-only path--only a woman can marry Alistair and become queen of Ferelden. Also, you can still go the Morrigan route as a woman by coaxing Alistair into doing it. He's not happy about it though.

There's also an option for you to marry Anora and become king that way - it requires you don't kill Loghain, exile Alistair, and get Morrigan pregnant. It's worth noting that the 'queen' option is only for cahracters starting as a female human noble, and I think 'marry Anora' may be only for a male human noble.

There's only a couple of RPGs I can think of with a lone female character on the front without a male one. One is Macho Women with Guns. The other is 1st edition Exalted.

"Well, nice to see everything is in position. Come on people, let's get rid of another of these vashvej." Suiting words to actions, she lashes out with her spear. "There's your target." She carefully moves to place herself between Thom and the onrushing zombies.

Hail of Steel vs M2, 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (1) + 22 = 23 vs AC, 2d10 + 10 ⇒ (1, 3) + 10 = 14 damage. All allies within 5 may make a basic attack against the target immediately as a free action.

2010 Q2 D&D 1st, PF 2nd
2010 Q3 D&D & PF 1st

You know what would be interesting alongside this. A table of the number of products put out in that period for the game involved. Because 5 Pathfinder products selling 1 copy each gives you greater total sales than on 4e product selling 4 copies.

"I'm sure Thom would appreciate having them bunched together for him to hit as many as he can, and Raya's glowstone things will work best when they're bunched up, so let's not get too spread out." Arishat's voice is cool. "If anyone can do anything to split up their advance, that'd be nice." She steps forward carefully, and drives her spear towards the nearest large monster.

Move to T5
Deceiver's Ploy vs M2, 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (9) + 22 = 31 vs Will, 2d10 + 10 ⇒ (3, 4) + 10 = 17 damage and the target takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls teomnt

He rolled? Or is that not what you mean?

It should be Lanthair, unless Nayce is moonlighting in two groups.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Why is Nayce in the initiative order?

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Would you like to be somewhere where there's scope for running around bushes and attacking enemies from behind? I've provisionally put you next to Barel, with scope to do that.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Initiative 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14.

"Or we could just kill them, Thom." Arishat sounds rather unconcerned.

Edit: Does the armour check penalty apply to initiative rolls? That would explain Raya's +8, and mean I should also be at the same score.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Endurance 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
The dice roller is being rather nice to me at the moment.
Leveled up. +1 to Strength and Intelligence, tactician's Word feat. I'll update the character page later.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Arishat follows down the stairs and takes position behind a pillar.

Initiative 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Move to H15
Endurance check 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Now, no bragging about how you've endured worse. You know how that ends.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"Agreed. Whatever we do, we have to get through with it fast."

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Well that's the polite way to put it.

Everyone through the portal:
Arishat looks around. "Why can't we ever go somewhere hot."

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"If I have to pay when I'm dead, expect certain people to complain about it." Arishat smirks, and steps through the portal.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"Have spear, will travel." Arishat looks relaxed, leaning against the wall and smirking with her pack at her feet.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

It's not about preaching, which Raya has been good about avoiding (she's not stupid, and knows when she's going to be ignored). It's in the attitude to the world that I notice similarities. Mind, I may be misreading Raya.

So we have the leader, doing some melee and some ranged and some healing and trying to keep things in order.

The melee tank, tough and rugged and more concerned with enjoying himself than anything like causes.

The other melee tank, who believes in things and thinks everyone else should.

The lethal close range fighter, taciturn and ruthless.

The ranged DPSer specialised in area attacks and who is sometimes rather hard to understand.

And the other ranged DPSer who concentrates on single targets and manages to be both charming and to still seem rather threatening.

But that's enough about my Star Wars: the Old Republic Smuggler and crew. This group is nothing like that.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

I think there's some cream you can get from the chemist for being peripatetic.

"All right you horrible lot! Line up, and let's have a look at you. When was the last time you were sober? You horrible lot! I should make you run a lap of the town, but I don't want to scare the locals with your horrible faces. Now fall in and stand up straight!"

Ofsted Inspection, Day 4.

They were in the room just down from me most of the day, and came out half an hour ago. 2 across the board is the early rumour. Considering this is one of the first inspections under the new system, that wouldn't be bad.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Ofsted Inspection, Day 3 After Action Report

Ambulance calls observed by Ofsted: One, to the sports field, after an over-enthusiastic rugby tackle. That's our average one for the year out of the way. Cats found dirty and hungry: one. Cars crashed into: Zero. Numbers of staff hoping their department will get top grade: rising.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Ofsted Inspection, Day 2

Teachers in tears: 1. Reason for those tears: missing cat, not Ofsted. Meeting with governors: positive (according to the governors. Meeting with Student Council: also positive. Lesson observation: apparently good learning, evaluation, and results have been observed. Personal interaction: the one Inspector I had to deal with went away happy.

And in other news, a student's parent crashed into into an inspector's car while dropping their little darling off. Oops.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Ofsted Inspection, Day 1 Report.

Nobody is threatening to quit. Nobody has been seen in tears. No students have been suspended or arrested.

It can't stay this good.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Can't be helped.

Arishat hasn't had time for booze, hookers, and crack lately; she'll take advantage of Sir James' hospitality and the ready availability of same.

Edit:
Minor pacts with demons? Abominable! Attrocious! Unaccepttable!!

Devils are much more reliable.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

I don't suppose Arishat's variety of exploits that grant save bonuses will help either.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Arishat looks at Sir James, and mutters something under her breath that sounds like, "Only a couple? He probably just hasn't met many."

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

I think we should take the rest. Saving throw, 1d20 ⇒ 5 in case we do.

"Anyone have an idea how we'll get back." Arishat looks around. "Though I've always liked desperate missions into unknown territory with no extraction plan."

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

If it has to be a Daily, Stirring Speech can go.

"If we must, we must. Let's be on with this."

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"Yes. Though it seemed like someone didn't want us to." Arishat smirks. "Including, possibly, Vocar himself."

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"Thom, it's rude to bleed on your host's floor, even from the nose."

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"Ah, Thom. If you've come to scrub my back, you're too late." Arishat frowns. "Have I been in here too long? Sorry." She gets out of the bath and wanders over to get a towel, incidentally giving Thom a view of her...

Spoiler:
tail.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Fast moving halfling monks may be able to beat Arishat into the bath, but no-one else will. "Oh, and Barel? If we have to wrestle you into the bath, I'm going to wash your beard too."

Eleven hours later. "Has anyone seen my rubber duckie?"

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"We are getting cleaned up. My family would disown me if I went somewhere while this filthy." Except for Nidi, but she's crazy.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"I'd suggest we hire a couple of goblins, but I don't know where to find any locally. And I'm also fairly sure that these clothes are only just dirty enough, and I really don't want to see a goblin walking around in my discards." She pauses, and smirks slightly. "They don't have the figure to carry it off."

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"Except us." Arishat glowers downwards at something. "I need boot polish, a change of clothes, and someone to toss these onto a fire. At a pinch, I'll do without the fire."

I've become very fond of The One Ring. At the moment it's just the rules, one book of adventures, and one free adventure. There is material on the schedule, so things are moving. I'm really looking forward to a book on Rohan and Rohirrim characters, eventually.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Arishat's Everburning Torch, probably.

"We might even take you to a sweet shop and let you pick your own sweeties." Arishat glares at her filthy spear as if it is at fault for the environment.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

I can empathise. Although with ours, they're coming in, doing their bit, and going. But there were 300 yesterday, and the same today, and they're nearly all 16-year-olds.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

No, I was still thinking they were submerged and I couldn't see them. It's still a miss, but not by as mcuh.
Edit: and apparently my spelling has goen the way of my maths.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"If one of these things dies on my boots whoever killed it will get to clean them." Arishat stabs angrily at the sewage. "Great horned ancestors, I have this horrible feeling someone is going to have to go into that muck to fight them."

Viper's strike, 1d20 + 21 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 21 - 4 = 20 vs AC, 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 damage and if the target shifts bsomnt it provokes an OA from Lanthair.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"It's a radical idea, but some people like to keep their sweeties for themselves." Arishat then mumbles something else, before moving forward and striking at the sewage rather disgustedly.

Move to K11.
Viper's Strike, target R1, 1d20 + 21 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 21 - 4 = 29 vs AC, 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 damage and if the target shifts bsomnt Lanthair can thump it with an opportunity attack.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

Arishat moves round the corner in front of Thom. "More of them, I see. Wonderful."

Double Move to N11

"I do hope we can find somewhere to stay with a bath-house when we walk in smelling like this. I can already tell I'm going to have to burn most of these clothes and replace them, just to get rid of the stench." Arishat stabs at the sewage, and squeezes past Barel, towards the civilised fight on the walkway. "Although I supppose I could give them to a temple," she adds.

10 damage.
Viper's Strike against SR5, 1d20 + 21 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 21 - 4 = 22 vs AC, 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 damage and if the target shifts before the start of my next turn it provokes an OA from Barel.
Move to O10
This provokes an OA from SR5, if it's still alive.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

In response to Thom's ankles getting whacked, Arishat thrust into the sewage near where the strike came from.

Viper's Strike, 1d20 + 21 - 5 ⇒ (1) + 21 - 5 = 17 vs AC, 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 damage and the target cannot shift on it's next turn without provoking an an opportunity attacl from Our Jimmy.
My rolls have been good today. 1, 1, 8, and 1.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"I always remember fishing trips being more fun and less smelly." Arishat looks around warily and prepares to stab with her spear if some of the ripples turn into enemies. "And also leading to a meal afterwards if we caught anything before we started pushing each other overboard."

Ready an action, Viper's Strike against the next sewer dweller to poke it's head up.
Perception check to try to pick up any ripples, 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
