When I've used that map, the freestanding black spots get treated as floor-to-ceiling columns. That zone in the middle alternates as needed, as either another wall dividing the two main spaces or a charm (as is being used here). 29 Steps nods toward the chasm, then conjures a quartet of softly glowing, floating spheres (green, blue, purple, pink), directing them away from himself but toward the chasm. It's the gnomish Dancing Lights ability. He'll then quaff a flying potion, then slip into the shadows, heading toward the edge of the chasm, all while directing the light over the chasm about 40 ft from his scout position. (He's hovering just above the cavern floor, but not touching it.) Stealth to skulk thru the shadows, a +1 Nivi Rhombodazzle bonus (from a boon): 1d20 + 23 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 23 + 1 + 2 = 42, then peering into the chasm with his low-light vision as the orbs descend into the depths.
