And dot! Feel free to introduce yourselves (both in character and out), and get to know each other a bit! As there are only around 700 people in Cinderfall it is likely that you already know each other, in-game at least. I'll be getting the first gameplay post up sometime early tomorrow; I meant to do it today but time got away from me.
Welcome to Mournfall, and the already-happened apocalypse!

Hey all. Thanks for the invite. I'm looking forward to playing with all of you. I briefly looked over your backgrounds. I could see Eymur and Kael could be acquaintances as they seem they may have ran in similar circles at some point.

Hi, all! Nice to meet you. :)
It looks like our last redoubt against the End is smaller than I was thinking (No Minas Tirith, this! XD ), so I'll have to think a bit about how the vigilante's dual identity shtick might play out.
I'm still thinking much less of a superhero secret identity, of course, so... Hmm. Maybe, if the ash farms are the most isolated district and more or less keep to themselves, Mara, or her social identity (or both, even!), is more of an urban legend / cryptid than an actual person to most people, especially since she's an elf and, as I've imagined her, has been around for the past few human generations. There might be only a few people who run into her often enough to realize that Mara's an actual person, and not just a fairy tale.
On that note, I guess Eymur, if his family were ash farmers, might just have heard rumours about some weird elf helping grow stuff, whom no one ever sees. Contact is less likely for more town-y folks, but if they're interested in such tales, there might be a few about something that turns up to haunt the abbey library (and a few other places) at irregular intervals?
All y'all are only in your 20s, looks like, so Mara might not even have really registered that you've been born yet, sorry. I mean, if she thinks about it she can probably connect the dots (oh, X, daughter of Y's kid), but you're not plants, so it's not top of mind. ;)

Glad to have you all!
I have found myself using discord for my games, to be more accessible and keep a record of important notes/images easily at hand, so I have created a server for this game. Don't feel pressured to join if you absolutely don't want to, but this is the easiest way to get ahold of me away from my PC.
I've got some area maps of Cinderwake made up for this game, to give you a bit more of an idea on what the bastion looks like.
@Mara: I have some thoughts on that, actually, specifically with the way elves work in this world. The main Ash farms are down on the 'coast,' as it were, but there's plenty of farms spread throughout that side of the mountain that Mara could own/use. Can discuss it further in PMs either here or on discord, whichever works better for you.
I'm working on the first post, will have it up by the end of the day!

Cool. I'm still looking at how divine magic works in the world. One of the class features of the inquisitor is proficiency in your god's favored weapon. Is it OK if I just kinda choose for Kesleigh to be proficient with a rapier?
Also ironing out details of the spirit possessing her; maybe they were proficient with a rapier??!!
| GM of the Ashes |
Yeah, choosing the rapier is fine with me. Like I said in the recruitment, divine magic and religion is a very personal matter here, with no official organized god-worshipping religions. There's certain 'powers/concepts' that are particularly popular in Cinderwake, and most of the upper classes and what passes for clergy worship and get power from The Ash. The spirit preferring rapiers also makes for an interesting connection I can use later, so yeah that works perfectly for me.
I also posted the maps in the discord so you don't have to keep track of the Imgur link.

All good, take care of business first!
Also, completely forgot that in addition to discord we will be using Roll20 for any maps and such. Here's the link for that. Nothing there yet, but just getting it started.

I'm sorry if mentioning all sorts of plants is working against the idea of just a handful of weird new ones being the staples that keep Cinderwake one step ahead of succumbing to the final catastrophe!
Maybe Cinderwake's rope is made out of some sort of demon kudzu fibres, or ashroot stalks have an unnerving stringy pith to them in addition to their edible roots and grain?
Or maybe it's a weird elven symptom of denial, and Mara's the only one left using old names for things that no living human in the bastion has actually seen growing. It could be that what she still slips into calling [X,Y,Z] is something else entirely.
Happy to work with whatever fits the desired theme best. :)
Actually finding a handful of viable pre-apocalypse seeds would be perfect treasure for her, probably.
| GM of the Ashes |
I kind of like the idea of her using old words to refer to things that exist now, so sort of a mix of those two. The ropes are strung together from processed ashroot stalk, but Mara still calls it hemp.
There likely are plants that survive elsewhere, and I'm sure I can figure something out for the seed bank being a treasure.

Likewise, I'm sorry not to have posted sooner, and I'll try to get back into the regular habit as soon as I can. End of the month and leading into Easter has made work a bit of a mess, but I think now that it's basically here I can clear some breathing space.
