"First time," Kesleigh admits. "I help out where I can down in the Ash Farms and the Docks. Guess someone took note and saw the potential for me to do bigger and better things for the settlement ... maybe. We'll be finding out what this summons is about soon enough."

Kesleigh looks over the fellow locals summoned to the Emberwake. Since it's a small settlement, she recognizes most of them by appearance, even if she hasn't dealt closely with many of them over the years. With a nod of acknowledgement, the young woman gruffly introduces herself: "Kesleigh."

Kesleigh Barrows: a Jane-of-All-Trades.

The lanky lass has heard herself referred to as such...and she's fine with the designation given her by the hard-working common folk of the Ash Farms and the Low Docks. The young lady's never been above working the fields 'til she's covered in muck and soot, nor gutting and fileting a fish (or other potentially edible beastie) caught by the settlement's fisherfolk. She's also decent with a hammer, saw, and other basic carpentry tools...plus, she has the rare gift of being a magical healer. Such talents are always welcome in a local, even in one so stoic as Kesleigh.

The messenger delivered her summons fairly early in the morning, shortly after she'd begun working the ash fields. Kesleigh had read the unusual missive immediately, one slightly jagged eyebrow quirking as she perused the message. This summons was a rare opportunity, she knew; it was also a bloody nuisance.

"I'll return presently," was all she told the nearest of her fellow farmers as she promptly returned to her very modest home to change into a spare set of clothes--one even more tattered than the one she wore on a daily basis in Cinderwake--and a bit small for her frame. Replacing her suit of armor over the rags, the young woman then stalked to a communal trough to give her normal clothes a quick scrubbing before laying them out to dry on a rock warmed by the inner heat of the Pyre, the life-giving heart beneath the settlement. She worked the next several hours close to that rock and her drying garments, within range of the loaded light crossbow she kept nearby should some local be foolish or desperate enough to try to steal them.

Early that afternoon, Kesleigh packed up her mostly dry clothing and set off for the Low Docks to lend what aid she could there, as was her daily routine. She used a narrow trail reinforced with rusted railings and rope guidelines fastened in place with hammered pitons, a safety system she tested and repaired when need required it. En route, she climbed a bit off the path to a secret place she'd set up for her own use, stripping off her too-small attire and using the rainwater collected in a couple of small pails she'd secreted there to give herself a good scrubbing before replacing her now-dry good clothes and suit of armor.

Upon reaching Low Docks, Kes helped with some simple, non-straining tasks--nothing sweaty nor stinky like gutting fish--before visiting her father. She told him of the summons so he wouldn't wonder what had become of her if her visits ceased for weeks. "I'm proud of you, girl," her lone surviving parent growled, not sounding like he particularly meant it. Sniffing in her direction, he added, "Washed up a bit too, eh? Smart. Only advice I can give is 'Be yourself, only better.' Now be off, and do your family proud!"

Kesleigh fought back some tears--that was the most her father had said to her in months--and gave a stoic nod. She turned on her heel and headed for the lifts and--beyond that--the upper reaches of Cinderwake itself.

Cool. I'm still looking at how divine magic works in the world. One of the class features of the inquisitor is proficiency in your god's favored weapon. Is it OK if I just kinda choose for Kesleigh to be proficient with a rapier?

Also ironing out details of the spirit possessing her; maybe they were proficient with a rapier??!!

Checking in. Thanks for the invite!

Now I'd better get this alias set up and finish fleshing out my PC....
