“Yeah, that was a tragic memory indeed,” Inhin says, nodding along with Seven.
He pauses for a moment before adding with a small, awkward shrug, “Explosive, but tragic.”

They are dismissed, and the Pathfinders proceed to explore the ruins. They arrive at a certain room that has interesting details. The walls of this room are polished to a near-mirror finish and the corners are precise and crisp. An elaborate, detailed carving of flames covers the entire surface of the southern wall. The western wall has a series of shelves carved directly into the marble surface. The shelves house several sealed tubes and bound books.
The PCs can each attempt a skill check to find information from the various scrolls, books, and strange items in the room. Arcana, Nature, Occultism, Religion, Society, and many Lore skills are all appropriate, including other skills that can be justified with the situation. While the documents are written in Azlanti, they are beautifully illustrated and therefore easier to understand. A PC able to read Azlanti can forgo the skill check and automatically gain one information.
Everyone is up to conduct research in the room!

Esskele starts to look through the books trying to see if any pertain to subjects he is familiar with....

|
Occultism (T): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Seven Coppers begins to peruse the ancient texts. "Must appreciate the artistry, even if I don't particularly enjoy their traps," he comments.
| GM Frost |
Esskele learns that the Azlanti researchers had devices that could open portals to Elemental Planes. These devices did not require the operator to have any special magical aptitude. In fact, many researchers appear to have had little magical ability.
Seven learns that the researchers sometimes used the temporary portals to see what types of creatures wandered in. For instance, the records could detail their attempts to use various flammable substances as lures to draw forth fire elementals.
Wimsy learns that research on the Plane of Earth initially focused on ways to repel objects formed of that element. A later supervisor eventually directed the research toward an examination of improved stability in construction.
Waiting for Miel’s attempt before moving everyone forward.

Just like Yaeger and Inhin, Miel learns nothing important from the books and scrolls in the room, though he does find a scroll of magic missile tucked into the pages of a book.
Just before they leave the room, though, the flame carvings begin to move and shimmer as waves of heat roll off the walls. Hot air swirls in the area, and eddies of flame dance across the ceiling!

Agreeing to quickly leave the place, they do so and reports back to the faction leader. Hearing their report, Gorm advises them to rest for now and continue their mission with another faction leader the next day.
---
Everyone is fully healed and has their Daily Preparations. Kindly note on your post if you have any changes you would like to make.
On the next day, they meet the faction leader of Horizon Hunters. A striking figure leans casually against one of the ancient columns that juts from the surrounding swamp. She is a half-orc dressed like a fashionable sea captain, complete with tricorn hat.
“Isn’t it exciting?” she asks, her rough voice deep and full of command.
“Fresh out on your first missions and already exploring Azlanti ruins? I once thought the high seas were the only place for true adventure, but the Pathfinders have shown me otherwise!” She pauses and deeply inhales the air. “I’m Calisro Benarry, leader of the Horizon Hunters. Now, straight to the business!”
"We Horizon Hunters get most excited by exploration. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of knowing you’re somewhere no one else has been in a thousand years! Or even better, finding a place no one has ever seen before. Admittedly, we sometimes get a little overeager to be the first, but that’s all part of the true joy of discovery.
“Since you are a bit new to the Pathfinder Society, I want to give you your first taste of that same thrill. Through that tunnel,” she says, nodding toward a dark hole leading into the hillside, “is an Azlanti ruin where no Pathfinder has ever explored. I have to admit, I’m more than a little jealous!
“Your job is to explore the area and report your findings to me. Questions?”
Wimsy
|
"If it's unexplored this is probably an unknown," says Wimsy, "but are there any dangers you're aware of?"
Inhin Yero
|
Inhin’s eyes light up the moment Calisro Benarry starts speaking, barely containing his excitement. By the time she mentions unexplored Azlanti ruins, he’s already leaning forward, practically vibrating. He then asks:
“Anything specific we should be looking for? Artifacts, inscriptions, unusual materials?”
He briefly pauses and asks another question, “Oh and uhmm... hypothetically speaking... how upset would you be if something accidentally exploded?”
Miel Archembault.

Esskele looks puzzled, then shrugs and answers "If you can keep up. I try to keep the bigger targets away from the caster-types."

"Do you have any mapping equipment available so that we can do a proper job of it?"
The faction leader provides them with sufficient paper, ink, quills, and charcoal for their mapping.
"If it's unexplored this is probably an unknown," says Wimsy, "but are there any dangers you're aware of?"
“Who can say? Maybe there are deadly traps? Ferocious monsters? A mild-mannered family of groundhogs? You might be down there for days, or maybe everything has collapsed, and you’ll be back before lunch. Like I said, you get to be the first ones inside! Enjoy the anticipation of the unknown and keep your senses peeled!”
“Anything specific we should be looking for? Artifacts, inscriptions, unusual materials?”
He briefly pauses and asks another question, “Oh and uhmm... hypothetically speaking... how upset would you be if something accidentally exploded?”
"Nothing specific, actually, I just want you to report back all that you will find inside." she says, "... and just make sure your accidental explosion won't cause collapse inside the ruins!" she warns him.
After the briefing, the Pathfinders begin exploring the ruin immediately, entering via the stairs in the southeast corner of the map. The once-grand facility is now a mere shadow of its former glory: the marble walls and floors and chipped and stained with mildew from centuries of exposure to the swamp. The ceilings are 12 feet high in the passageways and 20 feet high in the rooms.
Here is the MAP. I'll allow you to choose one area for the group to explore. I need at least two votes for a given area.
Miel Archembault.

Miel nods. "I will try. You just do what you do best, and I will try my best to keep them distracted."
He then looks at Seven's suggestions. "Oui, I guess that is a good place to start." Area 1
Wimsy
|
"As good as any," Wimsy agrees, checking her bow, "though we should move systematically once we start."

Inhin exhales as the trap is disabled just in time.
“Ah. perfect timing. You just saved me hours of repair work!" He mutters, then looks at Yaeger with a grateful nod.
| GM Frost |
Yaeger quickly warns Bakal and disables the trapdoor, revealing that opens into a pit with deadly spikes.
They continue to explore the ruins and find that most rooms are empty or have only shattered remnants of the glorious sculptures and artworks stored here in the past. A permanent source of dim light emanates from the various sconces embedded in the walls, although most of them flicker weakly, their ages-old magic nearly spent. The only exit is the same as the entrance; all other stairways are clogged with rubble or choked with roots and dirt from 10,000 years of neglect.
They arrive at a certain worker's quarters where long, human-sized niches are cut into the walls of this room. Oval glass protrusions stick out from the walls in a few places and emit a cold, white light, although many of them flicker occasionally. The half-rotted remnants of a door to the west stand mostly off its hinges. Unfortunately, the room has become the home to dangerous creatures.

Wimsy
|
Wimsy looks at the horrible little things. "I have decided that I hate them a lot." She readies her bow. "They'll probably come to us."
Before they can approach, she puts a few arrows their way. Maybe one fewer will be able to approach.
◆ Recall Knowledge, Occultism +4
◆ Strike Blue Shortbow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 for piercing damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3; on crit, double and add deadly damage: 1d10 ⇒ 10
◆ Strike Blue (or Yellow if Blue is down) Shortbow: 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 5 = 5 for piercing damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6; on crit, double and add deadly damage: 1d10 ⇒ 2
| GM Frost |
Wimsy doesn't know these tiny creatures. Nonetheless, she shoots at one of them, Blue. hit, 3 P - P res 3 = 0 damage; miss Crazy thing, though, even if the first one hits, the arrow seems to slide past its skin. She must have shot harder, perhaps.
Blue Fiend flies next to Miel, shows an awful appearance of twisted face that unnerves anyone with ten-foot emanation. DC 17 Will save fr Miel, Esskele, Bakal vs Sickening Display It then bites Miel.
Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 miss
Red Fiend also flies to the side wall and gives Esskele and mental jolt. DC 17 basic Will save vs 1d6 ⇒ 4 nonlethal mental damage (and Stunned 1 on Crit Fail)

[oc]Question: Does Commander's Banner grant +1 Will Saves AND reduce the DC of Fear Effects? Just curious. Adding +1 to the two Will saves.[/ooc]
Will Save VS. Sickening Display (DC: 17): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 1 = 10
Will Save VS. Mental Jolt (DC:17): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 1 = 23

Bakal seems to be unaffected by the fiend’s twisted visage, its focus unshaken.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aside from being immune to the sickened condition, emotion trait does not have an effect against mechanical or artificial intelligence.
Inhin seizes the moment and kicks Bakal into overdrive.
“Good, ignore it! Flank and strike Bakal!” he orders.
Overdrive vs DC 15: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Success = Bakal gains additional 2 damage to its Strike for 1 minute
The construct moves to the side, cutting off the creature’s escape, then drives forward with two quick, heavy punches in rapid succession.
Fist vs Off-guard Target: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Damage+Overdrive: 1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 2 = 12 Bludgeoning
Fist vs Off-guard Target, MAP: 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 5 = 18
Damage+Overdrive: 1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 = 13 Bludgeoning

Question: Does Commander's Banner grant +1 Will Saves AND reduce the DC of Fear Effects? Just curious. Adding +1 to the two Will saves.
Yes, +1s bonus to Will save vs fear effects, but does not reduce DC of the save you are rolling against. It will only add to DC of allies' action or spell and similar with fear effects. Also, the mental jolt (aka Daze) has no fear trait, so no +1s to your Will save vs it, though it does not change your result anyway, it remains Success.
Esskele finds the display sickening, and becomes Off-Guard. Sickened 1, and Off-Guard while Sickened He also receives a minor headache from the mental jolt. 2 NL mental damage
Inhin, I need Bakal's Will save as per Discussion from Seven.
Inhin brings Bakal into Overdrive. Bakal flanks Blue Fiend after getting through those frontliners that might have planted their face on the walls. He easily smashes Blue Fiend with his mechanical fists. Blue Fiend out
