Shall we go into the secret passage? Those gems worth 5,000 gold each that have elementals in them. Is that the sell value of the gems or the buy value? Just making sure I know what to put on the loot sheet.
Also should we take this with us. DM, can one of us grab the Adamantine sword and hurry up and rush through the secret door before it closes? Or does it close way to fast? [dice=athletics]1d20+20 If allowed as Jax will be the last one through.
5000gp is their price, they sell for half. You have to shove the sword into the wall to open it, if you try to remove it the door will close. You can remove it when you leave the area.
Examining the chests they are stuffed with more treasure, this lot much more valuable. There is a significant amount of gold and gemstones here.
In total worth 6448gp
Inside one chest there is also a small, bloodstained, prayerbook of Gorum. However, it is written in Skald.
Does anyone speak Skald? If so you can spend an hour studying the book if you wish although that does risk further discoveries. Finding the prayer book gains 1 infiltration point which takes you to the 14 you need. At this point you can lure Ordulf into an ambush. You can choose any part of the castle you are familiar with and lure him there. Sensible locations might include down here in the furnace room, the roof or the mess hall on the first floor. The sword on the wall is also clearly magical (its a Storm Flash, not that you will know that yet).

I know where to fight him.
I say the roof, I never did close that hole. We disarm him, shove him into the hole close that hole with wall of stone and he'll suffocate cause he can't escape. Unless he's a spellcaster with damaging spell or teleportation spells.

"That book must be very important. It may even help us discover Ordulf's secrets or plans. Or maybe it's his diary? Let me take care of it. While you guys were slacking around, I prepared for every eventuality."
Skarn puts his hand in his pouch and pulls out a scroll of Translate.
Skarn casts Translate and begins skimming through the book. He eventually gets lost in in for as long as the spell lasts.

Do you plan to spend the whole hour doing so and risk being disrupted and accruing more awareness? Or do you want to move to confronting Ordulf now you have the required infiltration points?

You easily manage to evade any form of further attention, for now...
Reading the prayer book, with its various annotations, gives an insight into Ordulfs background and personality. Ordulf is personally powerful and a skilled general but he is also overconfident, arrogant and quick to anger. He can be thrown off kilter by taking actions to anger him. In particular, if you were to destroy his prized fishing gear in his presence he is likely to become enraged and easier to deal with. Likewise if you can make him look foolish he is likely to be easier to deal with.
Mechanically, breaking his fishing gear requires and action and an athletics check in his presence. Otherwise, successfully feinting, disarming, tripping or frightening him will make him easier to deal with. So, where do you want to lure him to in order to ambush him?
Skarn Firetongue
"His patrols are diminished and scattered. Or busy. I think we can try to ambush him now. Some. place, where Jax can snipe him savely. with spells. Somewhere we can stay mobile, I'm pretty sure closed quarter combat would favor a brute like Ordulf. So how about the empty balcony, where we first landed?"
When they start setting up their ambush, Skarn hands Sass the fishing gear, because he does not have a free hand himself. "Jax, are you gonna haste the party, or should I drink a potion? Tomas, keep trying to decide and trip him. That is his weakness."
Skarn will prebuff with Heroism, once the ambush is set.
GMAndrewW
I believe you already have his fishing equipment as you took it from his bedroom.
The group slip up on to the roof, avoiding the patrols and the roused guards. You conceal yourselves about and wait. Snow drifts down in a smothering, freezing blanket as the minutes tick by.
I have placed you on the roof map. Decide where you want to be. You do not know how long it will take for Ordulf to arrive so you may want to consider whether or not you will risk any form of pre-buffs. Once you have placed yourself let me know. Ordulf is likely to arrive through either the door at the top left or top right of the rookery.
Skarn Firetongue
After quickly removing some dents from his shield, Skarn hides opposite Sass. Expecting Irdukf to arrive soon, he casts Heroism and downs a Moderate Silvertongue Mutagen. If he can convince Jax to start combat with a Haste buff, Skarn is ready, otherwise he holds a Potion of Quickness instead of his sword.

The group readies themselves for the ambush. Eventually the door opens to the north east and Ordulf emerges, greatsword in hand. He mutters, What the hell is going on and then the trap is sprung! Unfortunately he is more alert to danger than you expected and reacts faster than any of you!

Second, the way Haste works, you only get your bonus action starting the round after Haste was cast. Skarn speeds himself up and gains a little healing.
Tomas distracts Ordulf who is then very surprised to be hit by a javelin.
That is a hit for 45 damage. Note, the hidden condition from create a diversion ends if you do anything except step, sneak or hide. He is off guard to your attack but then the hidden condition ends. Lengthy Diversion doesnt change this.
The second javelin attack also hits!
No sneak attack on this one as at this point you are observed. Also, to note, you cannot stack debilitations, if you impose a new one, such as enfeebled here, the previous one ends.
Sassarra moves back into view and shatters the fishing gear. At this Ordulf goes purple with rage and begins to sputter violently. She blasts him in the face and then slices her boomerang through him again.
I assume you have come down to ground level or near as in order to hit him with the boomerang.
Jax manages to shoot Ordulf and then blast him with his ring but the man is burly and shrugs off the worst of it.
Furious, Ordulf rushes at Sassarra, seeking to bring her within his reach. However, hampered by Tomas's strike and distracted by frothing and raging about his fishing gear he cannot seek the vengeance on her that he desires.
Breaking he fishing gear has made him slowed 1, amongst other debuffs. Reducing his speed with debilitating strike means its two actions for him to reach Sassarra.
