I think I'm going to have a lot of fun with the Witchmarked drawbacks this campaign. ;-)
good :)
So with the witchmarked, are they always present or do they only show up when you're casting? (not that it matters, I'm just curious)
Edit: Just read the in game post, maybe he should put some points into deception....
Robert Henry
ahhhhhh, maybe I meant magical signs....
Edit: in all sincerity, I did want him to look more vampirish when he casts. Do you mind if I switch? He's obviously a dhampir so he would expect the reception, but when he's using his magic he looks much more like a vampire.
Options would be much paler, eyes solid red, his ears grow and his nose becomes two slits. Eventually his skin will change and he'll grow nails and teeth.
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
we're glad we can entertain :)
TBD to dhampir age the same rate as humans or slower? I've assumed the same age, but I wasn't sure.
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
yeah, I was wondering about the antlers. I was half tempted to go see if the class/archetype had a shamans hat of some sort or if the bird actually had horns.
Senna Tora
Oh yeah lol the antlers are very real! Part of the witchmarked drawback. I decided to go with spooky glowing antlers and feathers to make her look more Oni-like! She does not get a gore attack from them, of course, but they look sick. :P

Sweet! Yeah, I turned in my witchmarks, I loved it on Elek, but Sariel is scary enough without looking like nosferatu all the time.
But this does remind me I need to watch the final season of "Sweet Tooth"
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
Yeah, it reminded me of stuff I've seen in anime. So, a certain famine spirit you're not supposed to name? Um, can you give us a hint?
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
aaahhhhh

Kendra Lorrimor is the Professor's daughter. Depending on how close you were to Petros, you may have met her once or twice, but it's been years.
I'd posted that Sariel had been here once, years before. Let's say when he was a 'preteen'
What information can you share about Kendra, possibly what he would have known from years before, or what may have come up in communications (you know, when you ask questions like 'hows the family doing') that won't break the game?
For that matter, what would he have known about the professor? You mind if we google him and give some of that information to our characters?
Your Benevolent Dictator
There's not a ton of canonical information about Petros, but everyone in the party knows that he was a professor at the University of Lepidstadt. As a scholar, he used his knowledge and research to learn about the forces of evil to better combat them. He was very well-traveled and helped many people. He retired approximately 15 years ago, and that's when he moved to Ravengro.
Kendra Lorrimor is Petros's only child. She survived a serious illness when she was young that resulted in the loss of her vision. She'd be around 25 years old now.
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
hmmmm, I hadn't thought much about Sariel's age, if he was younger when he visited, I assumed the professor had still been in Lepidstadt. That would make Sariel older, between twenty-five and thirty, instead of between twenty and twenty-five. hmmmm, if Sariel traveled here with the professor checking the place out, that would put Sariel at twenty-seven. I'll change his page.
Is there any particular language he should know if he hunts undead? I've got an extra slot to fill.
Your Benevolent Dictator
I'd recommend not having visited Ravengro before. The beginning of the campaign is a lot like S&S in that players are expected to learn about the inhabitants and gradually earn their trust. That doesn't make much sense if everyone already knows who Sariel is. ;-)
For undead-hunting, I'd recommend Necril. Even mindless undead understand it.
Senna Tora
Relieved to hear the tengu speak, Sariel had heard they could only mimic others.
I'm still writing up her back story, but Senna was raised by a kitsune that takes pity on her for her oni-like form, unlike the rest of the hostile Konoha residents. She taught her common in preparation to leave Konoha and travel the world. 15 years of lessons! Now Senna has a consistent voice, even if
it isn't her own. Wait till she learns new languages :^)| Sariel Patrick Cornelius |

Going with Necril again :)
So I'd said he'd visited as a 'pre-teen' so in my head it's cannon. I'm good to say it never happened, or that he was just young enough folks wouldn't remember him. From a game perspective he will not act surprised folks don't remember him, for whatever reason. But I think thirty is a good age for him.
Or he could ask "Whendidwego" See what I did there :)
Out of curiosity, does anyone else read "Harry Dresden"?
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
So all of them :)
Harry is by far my favorite wizard of all times. Or at least my favorite to read. I think it's the snarky comments and the running nerd commentary.
Edit: I don't know if YBD and Sorsul have sorted this out or not, but in case anyone is wondering why I'm doing all this chatting and not responding in game, I will explain.
I try not to sandwich anyone's posts in-between mine, unless the person (GM or Player) is specifically talking to me and are waiting for a response before they post. When I first started playing, I would post as soon as someone else had. There were a couple GM's who then let me move the party along, not waiting for others.
Eventually I learned moving that fast dissuaded others from participating and the game slowly died. So as a habit, I try to force myself not to move faster than the pace of the game, while keeping the game moving as quickly as possible.
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
Funny thing, I realize I said I wouldn't post, but I probably will not be on anymore tonight and I wanted to get a little more of his personality down.
Please, don't let my descriptions limit the interaction, conversation or actions. If I need to retcon I'll be more than happy to do so.
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
I realize we're still getting used to a game pace that is comfortable for all of us. Are we done chatting? I don't want to be pushy, I mean, I do want to be pushy, but I want to do it in as nice a way as possible. Is it ok If Sariel heads out, assuming everyone will follow?

I just wanna say Im enjoying this a lot so far. You all are great writers, and I can't wait to see how our relationships develop and what we achieve together!
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
You are too kind...
Your Benevolent Dictator
Looks like you're putting together a plan for the day. I'll mention that there's no obligation for you to stick together. We'll be playing this portion of the campaign similarly to the beginning of Skull & Shackles. Everyone gets one Daytime action (such as conducting research) and one Nighttime action (such as looking for the 'false crypt'.
You'll notice "Trust Points" have been added to the campaign header. Ravengro is very suspicious of outsiders - especially exotic folks such as yourselves. Trust Points are a way for me to keep track of the town's overall perception of you. If they fall too low, you'll be run out of town. I've added a list of NPCs to the Campaign tab. They'll naturally show up in various locations each day, but you can also spend an action to seek a specific person out. Like my Skull & Shackles NPCs, each has a personality, hidden secrets, and a minor sidequest. Befriend them, and you'll gain Trust Points - and unlock perks like shop discounts, loot, or access to information.
Of course, there'll be various events that take place over the next thirty days as well. Have fun exploring!
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
Trust points, cool.
I think earlier (either here or in a different game) you said not to roll 'influence' unless you instruct us to. Does that also go for the 'list of NPC's and the 'Trust Points' or should we roll an influence sometime during the conversation?
Your Benevolent Dictator
1 person marked this as a favorite.
As you'll be actively attempting to change the NPCs attitudes, rolling is appropriate. Influence will be the most-used skill, but Deception and demoralize (PSB) may occasionally be more better options. The comment you're referring to is to prevent a situation I've had in other games where players roll Influence every single time they speak to an NPC regardless of the situation. You don't need to roll when asking a passerby where to find the General Store, for example, or to ask the innkeeper for a glass of water. ;-)

So I'm assuming Sariels first day is going to the library with Lady Shae, then in the evening, exploring for the false crypt.
Lady Shae, do you want to RP going to the library and such? OR should I just narrate that Sariel helps her and roll the appropriate rolls?
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
@Sorsul: That sounds like a fun campaign. I wonder if the sword was ever reforged! ;-)
I heard that it was not, but they decided to open a noodle shop in Absalom instead.
Lady Shae Venvu
I’m really enjoying all of the back and forth RP. It’s a joy to read.
It's a ton of fun! Im happy everyone is so into the RP aspect.
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
Wait *looks around suspiciously* there is an RP aspect?
Sariel Patrick Cornelius
Just in case you all are waiting on us, I'm assuming the "Lorrimor Library" has ended and lady Shae and Sariel are in the main part of the house with everone else....
You know me, I get nervous when I don't post...
