Darius Deverin |

Darius sighs. "I will act as someone's partner in the wheelbarrow race."

GM KoolKobold |

Larry grins. It sounds like fun.... "Does the driver and the rider switch halfway?"
A simple look at a couple who slide in some mud, tumble around and get back to the wheelbarrow proves that the driver and rider do not, in fact, switch halfway.

Darius Deverin |

The paladin notices the muddy ground of the wheelbarrow races, then looks down at his fine attire, and gulps with despair.

Veera Yurandiel |

I've always been fascinated with history and the lessons it can teach us. And when Professor Moldovaci introduced me to Soralyon... The Mystic Angel encourages the pursuit of the past while protecting us from that which is best left forgotten. Veera's smile and posture are that of someone who has taken up a noble cause.
Another's girl? Sahlara seems irked at that line of thinking.
---
Red Burrow Run sounds like a fun start! Sahlara rushes over to a free wheelbarrow, Veera trailing behind.
As long as we get to try those riddles later on. Veera hops in the wheelbarrow. Thankfully I did not wear my robe today.
Couldn't you just magic the grime away?
It's... the principle. Veera smiles joyfully at her cousin's teasing.

Darius Deverin |

"Sadly, as a cleric, I do not have access to the unitarian prestidigitation spell. I wish I did. And I've heard wands of prestidigitation can be expensive", Darius explained.

Lawrence Hastings |

Larry walks up and slaps Darius on his back. His hand hurts a bit for the impact against the armor, but he ignores it. "So. Are you riding or driving? If we slip in the mud I'm sure there's a trough we can use to clean up!"

Darius Deverin |

"I would prefer driving", Darius answers. "Maybe I could usher one of the ladies to victory."

Mia Vespertine |

Chuckling at this turn of events, Mia stands back. "Well, if you're all that enthousiastic to go it's only polite for us to bow out this round, right Clive? Show them what you're made of, boys!" She cheers on Darius and Larry.

GM KoolKobold |

Alright, for clarification, Darius and Larry are pushing, and Veera and Sahlara are in the wheelbarrows? Also for Salhara’s rolls you’re free to use a pregenerated NPC sheet, long as that NPC has NPC class levels

Darius Deverin |

That's what Darius would prefer.

Mia Vespertine |

Mia is waiting for the next round with Clive. She wants to see Darius and Larry squaring off against the girls :)

Darius Deverin |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |

With clear derision on his face, Darius muttered, "..fine.."

GM KoolKobold |

As the two teams get ready for the race, Gorvi, a half orc and the town's resident dungsweeper, announces, "Here we are for a new round of Red Barrel Run! Lads vs Lassies! Who will come out on the other side! On your mark...get set...GO!!!"
As both teams start to race...
Race Event 1: 1d100 ⇒ 32
Both wheelbarrows start to lean to the left!
Driver, make a Strength or Knowledge (engineering) check to beat a DC of 15. If the Driver succeeds, move forwards. If the Driver fails the check, the Rider must make a Strength check, an Acrobatics check, or a Dexterity check (if you have no ranks in Acrobatics). If Rider succeeds DC 15, the team moves forward. If the Rider fails, the wheelbarrow tips to the left and the Rider falls off, and the team does not move forward.
Normally I would do the rolls for Initiatives and Saves, but considering this is a game, I'm letting you all roll.

Darius Deverin |

Round 1
Strength: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15 DING!!!

Veera Yurandiel |

strength: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11 using this sheet for Sahlara apprentice jeweller
dexterity: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Woah! Sahlara almost loses control.
Steady! Veera quickly shifts her weight to the right balancing out the wheelbarrow. Holding out an imaginary sword she points forward heroically. Onwards to victory! The two cousins laugh and smile together.

GM KoolKobold |

Dairus manages to keep the wheelbarrow from tipping! Sahlara's wheelbarrow almost falls but Veera manages to keep it in balance! In spite of the latter's struggles, both teams are neck and neck!
Race Event 2: 1d100 ⇒ 14
There's a hidden rock somewhere in the path!
Driver, make an Initiative or Perception check, whichever is bigger. If you beat the DC of 15, you manage to avoid the rock and move forward. If you fail, you hit the rock, and the rider falls out, and the team does not move forward

Darius Deverin |

Round 2
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

GM KoolKobold |

Darius sees the hidden rock just in time to move to the side! Sahlara doesn’t see it and hits the rock so hard, she runs into the wheelbarrow and lands on her behind, while Veera is launched a few feet into the air before landing on a nearby pile of hay! As the two ladies scramble to get back to the wheelbarrow, Darius and Larry take the lead!
Race Event 3: 1d100 - 25 ⇒ (17) - 25 = -8 result of 1
As both teams continue with the race, the path becomes uneven and bumpy!
Riders, make a Dexterity or Acrobatics check. If you succeed a DC of 15, you move on; if you fail, the rider falls off and the team does not move forward

Darius Deverin |

Round 3
Dexterity: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

GM KoolKobold |

Both of the riders manage to hold on for dear life, although Darius and Larry are still in the lead!
Race Event 4: 1d100 - 40 ⇒ (31) - 40 = -9 result of 1
The bumpy path continues!
Same rolls as before-riders, make a Dexterity check, succeed DC 15 and your team moves forward, fail and the rider falls and you fall behind

GM KoolKobold |

Both riders fall, but Darius and Larry are still in the lead!
Race Event 5: 1d100 - 10 ⇒ (90) - 10 = 80
This part of the race is uneventful but safe, both teams move forward with Darius and Larry continuing to hold the lead!
Race Event 6: 1d100 ⇒ 2
The track takes a sudden dip that bounces the wheelbarrow!
Riders, make a Dexterity or Acrobatics check to stay on. Fail the DC of 15, you fall out and don’t move forward. Succeed and you move forward

GM KoolKobold |

Things are heating up as both teams scramble to the finish line!
Final Race Event: 1d100 ⇒ 34
The finish line is just past a sharp left turn!
Driver, move forward by succeeding a DC of 15 with a Dexterity check. If you fail, the rider needs to succeed a DC of 15 with a Strength or Dexterity/Acrobatics check to keep from falling. If Darius and Larry fail, but Veera and Sahlara succeed the ladies can steal the victory!

Darius Deverin |

Round 6
Dexterity: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Wyssal Freeling |

Wyssal eventually gets tired of hunting through all the tables and stalls and only finding anything she likes is also to expensive for her to afford. Belly chains have turned out to be completely absent from all the inventories she clawed through.
Exasperated, and increasingly annoyed that there's still no sign of Odette, Wyssal wanders over to watch the people playing games. The wheelbarrow races are an easy choice for entertainment value. She threads her way through the people standing around to get to the front so she'll be able to see. This places Wyssal beside a colorfully dressed and rather pretty young elf? Hm, no, I think half-elf...
Wyssal looks up briefly and offhandedly comments to the half-elven woman. "This should be good. Muddy people are funny."

GM KoolKobold |

Both teams manage to turn without fail, but Darius and Larry keep their lead as they pass the finish line!
"And we have a winner!" Gorvi yells out, with the crowd uproaring in applause. He walks towards the two and smiles, "Congratulations to you both! Winners, each one select your choice of prize!" He holds onto three items, a flask, a wand, and a shield. "The remaining prize will go to the 2nd team as a consolation prize!"
Darius and Larry, choose between one out of the three following prizes-a potion of fly, a wand of cure light wounds with 23 charges, and a masterwork buckler shield.

Lawrence Hastings |

Larry defers to Darius to choose first. "You Sir Knight had the harder job!"
If Darius chooses the shield Larry will take the potion. If he takes either of the others Larry will take the shield. He wouldn't know what to do with the little stick!

Mia Vespertine |

It takes a bit, but when the crowd at large starts cheering, Mia soon drops her hesitation and joins in, encouraging both Larry, Darius and the girls in turn alongside her partner.
"This should be good. Muddy people are funny."
Fully engrossed in the race, she almost misses the comment until Clive gently prods her with a shake of his head. "Huh? Oh! Um, they are?" She manages, surprised the halfling girl had sought her out specifically.
Did she want something?
A pickpocket?
No - a furtive touch of the bundle (and what little was in there) told her it was still in place.
But that time Veera's sister falls out of the barrel, and then Larry, with both of them laughing and continuing their races in good cheer. She chuckles. "I guess you're right! Suppose I never thought of it that way. The elves seemed to be too refined to enjoy such a thing." She eyes the no-doubt stunning lass who'd spoken to her and mentally added her to the growing list of people who seemed to greatly outclass her in the looks department. "What's your name?"

Darius Deverin |

Darius humbly accepts the partial wand of cure light wounds. "Thank you."
How muddy is the paladin's pant legs?

Lawrence Hastings |

Larry accepts the shield with a grin. "It's a lot smaller than my regular shield. I'll have to try it out."
Hearing Darius he adds, "And Thank You!"
Looking around he grins, "Another challenge, or game? Or another mug of ale!?!"

Wyssal Freeling |

Mia's expectation is correct. When she looks down at Wyssal she finds that she is rather stunning, quite beautiful. Her hair is a chestnut brown and falls past her shoulders in loose ringlets. Wyssal's eyes are green, and bright with an open friendliness. Her complexion flawless with a light olive tone, though not so much it disguises the rosiness of her cheeks.
At a glance though, Wyssal could pass as Varisian child. Her clothes are classic Varisian, loose, flowing, and brightly colored. She has a patterned scarf draped around her shoulders.
Wyssal hadn't exactly been trying to start a conversation, she just has a habit of often saying what she's thinking out loud. She does her best to come up with some reply because it seems to be the polite thing to do, "well, I don't know that many humans even would enjoy that", she gestures vaguely at the muddy racers. "But elves, I guess not." Wyssal figures it's best to agree with Mia's opinion since she hasn't the vaguest idea what elves might like or not.
"My name is Wysaal. And you're Mia. You're with the Watch here in Sandpoint."

Darius Deverin |

Looking around he grins, "Another challenge, or game? Or another mug of ale!?!"
"Perhaps another one. Not so messy", the paladin answered.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Out of the corner of his eye, Darius notices Mia speaking with either a gnome or a small child. The shelynite does his best to find out without causing a major faux pas.

Lawrence Hastings |

Perception to notice Mia and Wyssal?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Larry notices Mia talking to the really cute little girl while he is wiping some of the worst mud off of himself. Without water to rinse his hands it doesn't help very much. He grins and starts toward them. "Hey Little Sis!?! Who's the cute girl there with you? And do you have that spell available to make water? I need a good rinse to get some of this mud off of me. But check out this little shield that I won! And Darius won a.... a stick."

Mia Vespertine |

"My name is Wysaal. And you're Mia. You're with the Watch here in Sandpoint."
"...Well, yes. You're well-informed, Wysaal. Do you have some business with me? Have we met before?" The novice's tone abruptly shifts to a much more guarded one as she slowly angles her side rather than front to the bard.
One of her hands is slowly reaching for the handle of her dagger.
"Hey Little Sis!?! Who's the cute girl there with you? And do you have that spell available to make water? I need a good rinse to get some of this mud off of me. But check out this little shield that I won! And Darius won a.... a stick."
"G-gods Larry not so loud!" Mia jumps at the explosion of sound from her back in this tense moment. "I think I just had a heart at- and you're not listening, aren't you... " She sighs. "This is Wysaal. She seems to be familiar with me yet I can't say the same of her."
Still not sure what to make of the halfling, she glances around the area just to make sure she wasn't the setup of some sort of Sczarni attack, then stands back and grants him his request. "Sure, I can wash you, but you're going to get drenched... don't say I didn't warn you!"
She casts Create Water as much as he wants, though given just how much water even one casting is that probably cleans most of him. Also, I slightly redid Mia's skills so they fit her background better.

Wyssal Freeling |

"Nope, no business and nope, we're never met face-to-face. But I keep my eyes and ears open and remember things. This isn't exactly a large town."
Wyssal turns to look at the male shouter, she might have blushed just a little at his "cute girl" comment, but mostly she looks amused by his muddy state.
"So Larry is it?" she replies to him. "I didn't have a name for you but I've seen you around, mostly drinking here and there. It's nice to be able to put a name to a face."
At any close distance, especially if conversation is included, it's obvious Wyssal is a young adult halfling, not a human child. She watches Larry get his bath, even more amused than before.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Lawrence Hastings |

Larry takes the soaking and scrubs a couple of spots to get clean, grinning the whole while. He glances at the little woman realizing that she isn't just a little girl. "Wysaal? The names not familiar, but you know me. But I don't miss a perty girl. She's been around, at least a month I think. I just never got a chance for an introduction."
"Hi Wysaal. I'm Larry. And my not-quite so muddy friend here is Darius. He's usually cleaner and I've been told good looking, and he plays some really nice music." He gets a handful of water and slaps it against his right ear, then poking with a finger. "Ah. That's better. How'd I get enough mud there to completely plug my ear!?!"
Out of order but I'm going to leave the post....

Darius Deverin |

"Good day, Miss Wyssal", the very tall iridescent-eyed man announced, with a courteous bow. "I am Darius. Nice to meet you."
Wyssal might recognize the lute sack the well-dressed tall man just picked back up.

GM KoolKobold |

"Hello, hello, enjoy your time at the-oh! Darius!" a voice cried out. A familiar voice, especially to Darius. Mayor Deverin, walking around and enjoying herself, holding a half eaten cookie. "I hope you're enjoying the day! And who are your friends?"
Not sure what happened to Veera, but some more RP time with the Mayor herself
