The labyrinth once again transitions, its walls now composed of flowing script in front of an endless void. Countless stories weave their way along the walls, intermingling and separating into innumerable paths and walkways throughout the space.

Six magic missiles slam into Red leaving burn marks on its torso. SQUASH and Fortiva move up and strike at Red but neither blow connects. SQUASH shouts something at it, and, though it can't seem to understand what was said, it sounded scary enough that Red appears intimidated.

Seeing the creatures, Leo tightens his grip on his sword. "For the sake of Csilla! You will be vanquished!" He plants his feet and points the tip of his sword at the nearest monstrosity (Red). "Fulgur!" he exclaims and electricity crackles from the haft of his sword along to the tip and then booms, racing to the creature. "Arcus!" he follows up as the bolt reaches the target (hopefully blue then yellow) causing the bolt to arc to the other two.

He then quickly rears back and launches his blade that remains crackling with electricity toward the same creature. It flies with unnatural speed and spins as it goes causing a mixture of sound between a buzz saw and a sparking power line.

Leo unleashes a lightning bolt at Red. It dodges, but only avoids the worst of the damage. Blue tries to get away but actually steps IN to the bolt causing it to hit it right in the face (or what would normally be its face). The zap then jumps to Yellow who does avoid the worst of it. Leo then transfers the spell energy to his sword and hurls it at Red, slicing into the creature before returning to his hand.

Red explodes in a flurry of slashing claws as it attacks both Fortiva and SQUASH.

Jiki realizes that these creatures a Gugs. Gugs stand 16 feet tall and weigh 2,000 pounds, although they have an eerie, graceful gait that belies their immense size. They have no particular weaknesses/resistances. They are extremely flexible and can fit through tight spaces even when moving at full speed.

Jiki moves up and keeps his companions' fears away with a rousing battle anthem.

Leo moves up and sends a small red pea at the back of the cave wall. The pea explodes into a massive fireball. Blue is caught completely with his trousers down (if he wore trousers) and is incinerated by the blast. Red and Yellow are also too slow to move out of the way in time and suffer the full damage from the spell. Unfortunately Red gets no respite as Fortiva's sword perforates it in a critical spot, dropping it (Your first strike's actually a crit but Red's hp was in the single digits after the fireball.).

You see a room in front of you. Apparently that's what the gugs were jealously guarding.

This circular room is brightly lit, the light reflecting off the numerous metallic tiles that form concentric circles, surrounding an enormous golden owl in the center. The owl’s eyes are covered with an intricate masquerade mask; the owl seems to stare through it into an oblivion no one else can see. At the base of the statue is a poem. Its letters shift and swirl, before finally settling on Taldane to share a message:

Silence.
The dark between demands it,
But my thoughts are my own,
My defiance shows through my voice.

While you recover, you can study what's in front of you. The fight with the gugs is triggered by either 5 Observation Points (i.e. failures from navigating the maze) or passing the last section of the maze. The place where Patrick tried to use a HP was the last section of the maze. So no matter what happened, you were going to hit this fight anyway.
