Each PC may take up to 5 rounds of actions in preparation, although some of you have already used up a number of those rounds.
I will give the party the rest of the weekend to prepare and move PC tokens appropriately. Then, I will move us along to the next encounter soemtime Monday.
Theron Randallas

moved token to my "hiding" spot...i'm like Charlie Brown behind the tree...lol. will draw my bow and nock an arrow to get off a shot if not in melee range right off...shield propped up on my leg to grab after dropping the bow
Nightkit

Nightkit is preparing her crossbow while lying on her front on the floor behind the table, like a sniper.
| GM Valen |
"Bah!"" cries a towering Ulfen man, his head bald and his beard braided. He is accompanied by an Ulfen woman and a trio of men armed with crossbows. "I didn't come here to recover some old obelisk covered in hieroglyphics. I came here seeking treasure, a weapon, something capable of slaying a linnorm. So far, I have found little more than damaged ruins and old, decaying bodies."
"Do not be dismayed, Yjalk." The woman replies. "Your predictions of these ruins deep existing in the desert proved to be accurate. Surely, your suspicions of finding a legendary treasure must also correct. For you are destined to be a great king, Yjalk, and the halls of your court shall echo with my songs. For I shall sing of your travels to the Inner Sea as a merchant, the selling off of your cargo, your trek across the desert wastes to break into this Osirion tomb, and how you recovered the key that allowed you fell one of the great dragons of the north!”
”You are as inspiring as always, Signe.” Yjalk replies with a chuckle. “Tell the rest of the crew to come in here. This room looks like it could have a lot of hiding places for treasure.”
As he reaches the threshold of the chamber, Yjalk scans the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
"We are not alone!" He declares as he reaches for his greatsword. The others gather around him.
What do you wish to do, Pathfinders?
Theron Randallas

Theron motions for Kit and the others to hold fire. He moves out from his spot and stands straight up. Ho there...we are not foes....just here on a job. Can we parley? he asks as he hold his sword and shield by his side, not in an active combat stance.

Darn. I was working on my post. Was going to silent image a ginormous phantom Ice Linnorm.

"A job to loot these ruins?" Yjalk bellows with a growing fury. "If you truly wish to parley, then let us parley. But do so quickly, for my journey to here has taken years and I grow impatient. Tell me who you are. And quickly!"
If you wish to influence Yjalk through Bluff, Diplomacy, or Intimidation, feel free to include any checks with your post.
Merida Bowie

Merida waits for someone else to answer - face stuff interpersonal skills are not her strongest suit...
Nightkit

Nightkit crawls out from under the table, stands up, and puts her crossbow on top of the table.
Pathfinders she says. Seeking answers. And what is it you look for? You're a long way from home aren't you?

Aid Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 :-/
Merida keeps her bow ready and an arrow nocked, but doesn't aim at the group of Ulfens... yet.
"Yeah, we're Pathfinders... combat hardened Pathfinders."
Ashtoret
|
In the prep round, Ashtoret would cast Mirror Images (1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3) on herself, if you don't mind. It's in minutes, so it made sense no matter who was approaching.
We came first. We take what we need, and then you act as you see fit. This is the law of honor. Who needs a king without honor? Who needs a legend about such a slayer of linnorms? Wizardess spectacularly comes out of her hiding place with these words.... But Ashtoret's voice sounds indifferent. To be honest, she dreams of burning them with a fireball, but why not talk first?
Diplomacy auto-aid!
| GM Valen |
As success even without adding in Corey's auto-aid
"I... I apologize for making rude accusations." Yjalk replies. He pauses to rub his eyes, trying to wipe away multiple images of multiple adventurers from his field of vision. Though unsuccessful, he continues."Aye. I have indeed come from the north, in a roundabout way. I hail from the Land of the Linnorm Kings, bringing with me dreams of earning greatness, acquiring wealth, and perhaps one day felling a linnorm. To that end, I set about seeking an edge, whether a physical technique, a cunning plan, or a magical weapon."
"Knowing that performing an occasional sea raid would never be enough to make my name I set forth on another path." The Ulfen men expounds. "Over the past year, I have collected and pieced together bard tales that, when cross-referenced, made some mention of what I believe must be a legendary treasure. Using that information, I have crafted, planned, and set about my present court. With a band of loyal glory-seekers, I have traveled to the Inner Sea as a merchant, sold off my cargo, and then trekked across the desert wastes to break into this Osirion tomb and recover whatever legendary weapon lies within it."
"My second-in-command, Signe, and my crew, we have traveled this far, yet have managed to avoid any serious encounters. We are eager for some action as well as treasure." He concedes. "And since you are Pathfinders, combat hardened Pathfinders, it may be well if my companions and I were to explore the rest of the ruins with you."
"What say you? Shall we explore together and split what spoils we may find?"
Theron Randallas

The more the merrier, I say. You wouldn't happen to have anything stronger than water would you? Theron asks as he extends his hand.
I'm Theron...these are my colleagues.. he waves to the others as they appear from behind cover.
Nightkit
|
Nightkit. And sure, I got no problems - as long as you don't want anything we need to fulfil our mission. It's something about the Jeweled Sages we were looking for wasn't it? And, oh yes, liberating a water elemental.
Corenthiir

Corey senses something fishy. Are they going to turn on his group? Corey tries to read Yjalk's and his teammates' body language and tone of voice to see if he means well.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Ashtoret
|
Ashtoret is well aware that discernment is not her strong suit. Do you believe in his intentions? She openly asks her comrades, still assessing how well a fireball would fit into a group of enemies slipping on grease...
| GM Valen |
Corey can't spot any tells or clear signs that support his concerns about the northmen.
The more the merrier, I say. You wouldn't happen to have anything stronger than water would you? Theron asks as he extends his hand.
"We have a truce!" Yjalk loudly bellows.
"As for something stronger than water, I only have a couple of potions and some holy water." he notes. "Last thing I would want to do is dehydrate out in the desert."
Nightkit. And sure, I got no problems - as long as you don't want anything we need to fulfil our mission. It's something about the Jeweled Sages we were looking for wasn't it? And, oh yes, liberating a water elemental.
"Liberating a water elemental? Sounds stronger. How do you plan to free it? Are you asking for a jug?" Yjalk inquires, somewhat confused. "No matter, it looks like everything else in these ruins is long dead or gone. We should be able to explore freely now. What could possibly go wrong?"
A moment later the room trembles, the brazier in the center of the table ignites with emerald fire, and the spectral form of a sage rises from the flames while a mass of corpses in the northwest alcove animate to defend the malignant cloud of shadows that boils in the air. The sage's skeletal maw eerily babbles as it’s claws manifest from the darkness ready to attack.
"The truce is off!" Yjalk loudly cries.
The panicked crew of northmen along with their leader turn and flee.

What do you want to know?
Like the one the party faced earlier. What would you like to know?
The undead sage mutters to itself, creating a hypnotic effect.
All PCs must succeed at a DC 15 Will save or be fascinated for 2d4 rounds. This is a sonic, mind-affecting compulsion effect.
It then seeks to fill the party with fear and doubt.
Each PC must succeed at a Will save (DC 15) or take a –1 penalty on attack rolls and a –1 penalty on saving throws against fear effects for three minutes.

Yes. You are fighting only ONE undead sage. The two appearances on the Initiative Tracker are NOT a mistake.

Botting Ashtoret...
Ashtoret snaps out of her stupor, blinking away the lingering haze. Her eyes dart around the room, quickly taking in the chaos.
Then she spots Corey—locked in a desperate struggle with the ghostly Sage, barely holding his ground.
Without hesitation, she tears herself away from the shambling horde of undead and steps back a few feet (5' step).
"You there, undead Sage!" she calls, her voice sharp as steel. "Look into my eyes..."
The ghost turns, its hollow gaze meeting hers.
"You will obey me now." she sneers.
With a flourish of her arms, Ashtoret begins to weave an intricate, hypnotic pattern through the air—her magic coiling like a serpent as she attempts to bend the ancient spirit to her will.
