Epperson tries to apply his general crafting skills to the task of taking apart the ancient wooden chariot.

”I’m really only decently-trained with stone or metalwork,” he apologises.

Smiling at Unatti's comment, Tribim slings the iron snake over his shoulders so it draped around his neck, "Your probably right, but it will make a nice momento."

Asthey began working on hoisting the 'loot' up the shaft, Tribim chimed in with, Epperson, "Same, I know a little about locks and traps, but nothing about this sort of thing." Knowing his 'thieve's tools' would be too delicate to be of assistance, Tribim offered, "If I can help lift something, or pull something just point."

Aid another in untrained crafting? Is that even possible?
Craft: aid another?: 1d20 ⇒ 14

@Aerith: While you don't find anything else of monetary value, you're able to learn a bit of information about Akhentepi's life. There are records of his notable military victories and depictions of his family. As one of the goals of exploring the necropolis is learning about those who once lived here, the Pharasman church will doubtless be pleased.

@Epperson/Tribim: They get a bit scratched up, but you're able to get the pieces of the chariot back to the surface. You're not entirely certain that you put it back together properly, but there are no 'leftover' pieces, and you think it looks the same as when you first saw it.

”I don’t think anyone’s going to rely on this as a means of transport. Not that it matters, but we can rest easy knowing no one’s gonna find the faults in our suspect re-engineering at the wrong time,” Epperson chuckles.

He then looks earnestly at Mahmoud. ”I’d appreciate it if you do the talking with the Pharasmin folks. I’d rather prefer to stay silent in their house.”

Thanks for help, GM!

Mahmoud nods respectfully to Epperson, happy to speak to the Pharasmin priests on the dwarf's behalf. Curious, he thinks, I wouldn't have thought I could become close enough to trust a follower of Groetus, but he's growing on me.

Pleased that they were able to disassemble and reassemble the chariot, Tribim chuckles along with Epperson. He chimes in, "Nothing to worry about, this thing's a museum piece now, no one should be riding on it."

Letting someone else drag the chariot full of loot, Tribim spins and twirls his new ancient spear. Tossing it in the air like a baton he wonders if his ancestor guards used such a weapon. As he caught the spear and spun it around he asks, "Does anyone mind if I keep the spear? I think it would work good in one of my dancing routines."

Returning to Wati, you see numerous merchants have set up tents throughout the marketplace, eager to buy and sell the things found in the necropolis. Jewelry, maps and records, weapons, even ancient coins can be traded.

The Temple of Pharasma will take things you're selling as well, but payment will mainly be in the form of supplies and free healing/condition removal.

Spinning his new old spear, Tribim leads everyone towards the stand full of old wheels, broken rudder and faded oxen yoke. Gesturing back towards the chariot, he asks, "Good sir, might I interest you in the chariot of General Akhentepi? He was a famous, well, er General!" He points the ancient spear at the other items on the chariot, "And we have some other stuff as well."

So I don't know if influence would help, but would be happy if he purchases everything or we hand waive the 'selling of items'
Influence: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

I typically handwave shopping trips to save time.

In addition to typical adventuring gear, there are plenty of other potentially-useful items for sale among the multitude of vendors.

Additional Available Wares:
Blessed Stick (450gp)
When you or one of your allies within 35 feet is making an attack roll, skill check, ability score check, or saving throw, you may snap this stick as an immediate action to allow them to make the roll twice and take the highest roll. You must use this item before the roll in question is made.

Bottomless Flask (1,000gp)
This ornate and surprisingly weighty hip flask appears to be made out of silver, and its stopper is decorated with five small gems of different colors. It does not appear to be able to hold more than a pint, but the flask can open into five separate extradimensional spaces, each of which can hold up to 20 gallons. These spaces do not mix or overlap, so the contents are kept separate and uncontaminated; in addition, they can safely store volatile substances such as acid or alchemist’s fire. The different spaces can be accessed by twisting the stopper so that a different gem faces the front of the flask, which can be done as a swift action. The flask can pour out a maximum of one pint per round (or a single flask of an alchemical substance) into a square within the wielder’s reach. If broken, the flask is ruined and all contents are lost in extradimensional space.

Eventide Outfit (50gp)
This outfit has flaps which can tear away or clasp toward the primary garb allowing for additional ventilation or warmth as necessary. When modified for cold-weather, the eventide outfit grants a +5 circumstance bonus on saves vs. cold weather and energy resistance 5 vs. nonlethal cold damage (including nonlethal damage dealt from cold weather). When modified for hot-weather, the eventide outfit grants a +5 circumstance bonus on saves vs. hot weather and energy resistance 5 vs. nonlethal fire damage (including nonlethal damage dealt from hot weather). Changing between cold and hot weather modifications is a full-round action. These bonuses do not stack with those granted by the Survival skill.

Filter Scarf (5gp)
Made of heavy material, this scarf filters out dust, sand, smoke, and other airborne contaminants. When worn over your nose and mouth, this scarf grants you a +1 resistance bonus on saving throws against inhaled poisons and other airborne effects that require breathing.

Force Hook (1,000gp)
This short metal rod fits well into the hand and is small enough that it is barely longer than a clenched fist. You may activate it as a move action and cause it to telekinetically hook on to a solid, inanimate surface within 200 feet, allowing it to act as if you had a rope securely linked between the rod and that surface. A second move action causes the hook to retract, drawing the rod and its wielder towards the surface at a rate of 50 feet per round. You may also use a free action to disconnect the hook from any surface it is attached to. The hook can support a load of up to Huge size.

Full Healing Scroll (9,500gp)
For when you need to heal everyone of everything. When used, this scroll heals up to eleven creatures in 75 feet for 6d8+100 hit points. This cure functions on creatures that have died in the last round, as the Resuscitate talent of the Life sphere. Immediately following this cure, each creature is also restored from a wide variety of conditions - or at least you may attempt to restore them - as the Break Enchantment, Restore Capacity, Restore Health, Restore Senses, and Restore Spirit talents of the Life sphere. You must attempt any additional checks required by the restorative abilities, but do so with a caster level and MSB of 20 because you are casting through this powerful scroll. This restore heals targets of the temporary negative level gained from the Resuscitate effect, if applicable.

Group Healing Scroll (1,500gp)
When used, this scroll heals up to six targets in 50 feet for 1d8+30 hit points.

Halfling Black Bread (100gp)
This bread is originally an invention of halflings who made it ‘with love’. Halfling love turned out to be a powerful combination of fermented herbs. A single slice of this bread is enough to grant the eater fast healing 1 for 2 minutes, and counts as a full meal for anyone that eats it.

Holy Flask (120gp)
This glass vial can be thrown as a ranged touch attack with an increment of 10 feet. On a successful hit against a corporeal target, it breaks open and deals 5d4 points of damage to undead and evil outsiders. A holy flask can be poured on incorporeal foes, but the target must be within the user’s reach.

Liquid Life (20gp)
The greatest invention of the alchemical world since transmuted bread, liquid life has what you need to perk yourself up when you’re knocked low. Liquid life gives the drinker 3d6 temporary hit points to the drinker and removes the fatigued condition. Liquid life can not grant more temporary hit points than the drinker currently has in damage. Temporary hit points granted by liquid life disappear after 1 hour. Some have reported mild addiction after prolonged use, or at least an inability to get out of bed in the morning without it.

Mother's Mercy (200gp)
This small bottle of seven secret ingredients has life-saving properties. Once imbibed, it restores 1d8+2 hit points. If poured down the throat of a creature that has died in the previous round, it restores the same number of hit points, and if the target’s new hit point total is greater than the negative of its Constitution score, then it comes back to life and stabilizes at its new hit point total. Otherwise, the creature remains dead. Creatures brought back to life in this manner gain a temporary negative level.

Ring of Clarity (2,500gp)
This crystal ring is actually somewhat difficult to see. A DC 17 Perception check is required to notice it on someone’s finger. Once per day, it allows the wearer to take 10 on a concentration check, even if they are threatened. When used, the ring turns opaque grey-pink until it is ready to be used again.

Potion - darkvision (in powder form due to the ravages of time, but it can be reactivated by adding water to the vial)

There are also two books with thin, gold-plated metal sheets for pages. The first is a brief biography of Akhentepi, and the second is a list and description of the various military campaigns conducted by the nation of Osirion between 2350 and 2450 AR. (each is worth 300gp)

The chest itself is worth 200gp.

"Oh my! Are you alright?" Aerith rushed over, concern on her face. Seeing that the catfolk was alive, her curiosity won over when she saw the gold-plated metal sheets. "You'll live." She muttered to herself as she bent down and began reading. "Gods above!" She exclaimed, turning and shoving the plates into Tribim's face. "Look what you found! This is a, sadly brief, biography of Akhentepi! I don't see anything new in here, but it confirms known details. It is worth a few hundred gold by itself. And this?" She continued, completely oblivious to the rogue fighting off the effects of the poison. "This is a list and description of the various military campaigns conducted by the nation of Osirion. It only goes between 2350 and 2450 AR. Now, sadly, it stops before the city of Tortra was founded by the conquering Pharaoh An-hepsu the second. I mean, could you imagine if it did? But anyways, it alone is worth another three hundred gold." Giddy with excitement, she put the sheets back into the chest.

"Mahmoud!" She turned, with an imperious tone that she didn't realize she had slipped into. When too excited she didn't realize that she went back to acting like the noblewoman she had been raised to be. "Are those muscles of yours out in the sun just for show? Pick up the chest and follow me. Given that it is an original receptacle, I think that we can get another two hundred or so gold for it. I just need to find a vendor who appreciates it."

It sounds like the split is 1549.34 gp. Is anyone inclined to purchase any of the items YBD has listed above? I'm thinking Trib might need the 'mother's mercy' though the 'Force Hook' looks cool too. I was planning on purchasing a MW backpack and a MW thieves tools, so he will have the cash to purchase the two listed items as well.

Your trading takes most of the day, but by the time you're finished, you've gotten a solid handle on what is or isn't desirable and which merchants are honest (or unscrupulous), so future shopping expeditions should go somewhat smoother. You'll receive your next excavation site tomorrow at dawn, but if you're not ready to head to sleep, the Tooth & Hookah seems to be popular with several of the other adventuring groups. It's probably the "two for one" deal the proprietor's running for anyone who has a good story.

Entering the tavern just in time to hear Epperson finish telling his story, Tribim whistled loudly and claps. Not waiting for Unatti to agree or disagree, he winks at his fellow Bastetite. Moving towards the dwarf he chimes in, asking loudly, "But did he tell you about how his heroic flatulence killed the swarm of roaches?"

Slapping the dwarf on the back, Tribim turning back to the crowd moving out into the room a little. Leaning forwards, almost in a fighting stand he spreads his hands; the left empty, the right holding the ancient spear near the tip, the shaft tucked under his arm. He stalks through the crowd, "There we were, a swarm of deadly roaches pouring from around the doors leading to the great generals eternal resting chambers." He turns skipping and dancing as if to avoid the creatures, "I myself, dancing away from them fearing for my life." He pauses, turning, pointing the spear at Mahmoud, "Our Pharasmin juggling alchemical fire, raining hell down on the creatures." Slowly turning, looking at the crowd, "But to no avail, the hellspawned creatures still trying to eat our flesh." Quickstepping through the room, he jumps on an empty chair. "I fled to the stairs, knowing our only hope was to flee." Jumping off the chair he spins about, pointing the spear at Epperson, "And then I heard a loud "THHHHHBBBBT!" noise. I turn from my flight just as the room filled with a noxious smell. The dwarf, our dwarf, his head held high, his backside pointed at the roaches, he knew he'd won the day. As the gas drifted over the swarm, they tried to flee back around the door, but it was too late. Our heroic dwarf had gassed them to oblivion!" As he said 'Heroic Dwarf' he tucked the spear further back under his arm so both hands were free and began to clap, hoping the crowd would do so as well.

As he clapped he moved back to the table where Epperson was waiting, as he leans his spear against the wall, to take a seat, winking at the dwarf.

"THAT retelling of the story is highly inaccurate but notably more likely to entertain us into a free night's stay - unless the innkeeper takes a concern to my mythologically-overblown "talents"." The dwarf makes an air-quotes sign, his face deadpan.

- Dog Soldiers: a half-dozen halflings who flip-flop between crying and showing off a glowing sword

Asking, "Epperson will you watch my gear while I go speak with that table full of beautiful women?"

Not waiting for a response from his friend, Tribim, clearly feeling the alcohol, half walks, half dances, his way over to the table of five women. Bowing low, giving his best smile he introduces himself. "Good evening Ladies! I am Tribim, lock pick for the 'Five of Shadows'." He pulls up a bar stool to the high table. "So tell me did you have any fun today?" He gives a confident wink, "Or are you still looking?"

Just wondering if they have a story to tell

"Greetings," the leader (a red-haired Ulfen) responds. "We explored the house of a pawnbroker. Plenty of nasty traps, but no undead, thankfully. You'll be able to read about it in my book - once it's finished, of course. Can I include your story about the roaches?" She pulls out parchment and quill in anticipation of your response.

In case your were curious, the other members of the group are a Rahadoumi, a burly Thuvian, and two ashtifah.

LOL, I thought daughters of the desert meant they were sisters.

His ears perking up, Tribim smiles, "Of course you may include the story, and anything else my friend Epperson shared." He lifts is chin, looking like he's trying to read the document already, "So have you learned anything else interesting?"

anything else interesting? And what is an ashtifah?

An ashtifah is a veiled "battle witch" from Qadira.

Her response is cut off as the "Mad Dog" with the glowing sword waves it in an elaborate fashion before swinging it toward an empty table. A beam of light issues forth and slices the table in half. "Put it on my bill!" He shouts to the barkeep before addressing anyone watching. "We found this trinket at our site. Anyone interested in buying it?"

By the way, if an Influence roll is needed, I'll either ask for it in advance or roll it myself after the fact. During mundane roleplay, it'll almost never be necessary. ;-)

Radiant Edge Shortsword (costs 8,360gp)
A radiant edge weapon projects deadly light from its edge when wielded correctly, allowing its wielder to make attacks as if their reach was 5 feet longer than normal. However, it takes specific motions and precise setup to use this effectively and so this does not increase the wielder’s threatened area, only their reach when making attacks on their own turn.

In addition, you can use a radiant edge weapon much like a torch. It sheds normal light in a 20-foot radius and increases the light level for an additional 20 feet by one step, up to normal light. You may turn this light on or off as a free action.

Mahmoud lounges with his legs on the bench beside him, enjoying Tribim's performance but giving the catfolk room to maneuver without crowding his style. He drinks with Epperson, silently giving him wry looks of sympathy (or admiration) as the story of his magical flatulence spreads through the room. He seems happy to let others have all the glory of their success, staring into space or his drink as if he is appreciating the feeling of just being alive.

I bought some potions at the temple, if that's okay. 3 more potions of cure light wounds and 3 potions of cure moderate wounds. I also updated the spreadsheet with everyone's share of the loot and removed the sold items.

Seeing the halfling waiving the sword, Tribim calls out, "where did you find it 'Mad Dog'?"

He moves towards the Haflings table he asks a little softer, "How much would something like that be worth?"

As he admires the weapon, Tribim wondered how safe it was to be waiving such a thing around. There were enough thieves in Wati who'd be happy to put the thing to use and may consider the halflings an easy target. "It is a nice weapon, but I don't have enough cash. Let me know who you sell it to, If I get lucky I may be able to buy it from them." He moves a little closer, speaking softly. "Keep it safe, there are a lot of thieves in Wati who would think stealing it worth the risk."

Epperson pops up next to the red-haired Ulfen (obviously not watching Tribim’s stuff).

”Any curses at the pawnbroker’s place? I’ve got a vested interest,” he mentions, looking over her shoulder at the parchment.

The group was swapping stories and ogling magical artifacts, while Aerith stood outside having a small panic attack. It was one thing to teleport into an ancient tomb and tell a group of strangers that you were joining them because of connections above any of their pay grade. It was another to interact with people in a social setting. Especially in such squalor, as the place was filled with a cacophony of sounds, even worse smells, and she could only imagine what kind of people.

And to make it worse, she had already tried to contact her family to get some better supplies. And...and she had been rebuffed! Turned away like a commoner. The only message that she could receive was that her parents had informed all staff that they were not to provide her with any assistance, be it money, equipment, or even moral encouragement. All she had asked for was a mithril curveblade! And even something as cheap as a few thousand gold was refused. It was at that moment that she realized that she truly was on her own, and that all she had to her name was fifteen hundred gold. It was so little that it made her wonder how she would possibly survive. It was one thing to be sent out to fight and possibly die, it was another to live like a peasant.

So, she decided that she had to be frugal. She only bought some sleeves of many garments.. As much as she hated having to do it, the two hundred gold would save her so much money, as it would mean that she wouldn't have to buy a new wardrobe. And she knew that the small pittance that she had with her wouldn't cover that. And while magic could, of course, clean clothing, it would save her time as the sleeves would do it for her. And if she factored in the cost of hiring a servant to take care of her clothing needs, well, it would go a long way in ensuring that she didn't starve.

While she was quite proud of herself for being so pragmatic, it did not help that she still had the problem of having to enter tavern. So she made the decision that the weather was really quite nice, and that while she could go in whenever she wanted, it was her decision to stand outside and enjoy the outdoors.

@Epperson: "No curses, but plenty of traps. Poisoned needles, mostly, but there was a pitfall at the entrance to the stockroom."

@Tribim: "Inside a gelatinous cube that was infesting the tannery we explored. Lost half of our dogs killin' the thing."

As he chats with the halflings, Tribim notices that the leader of the Sand Scorpions is none other than Black Kiss! On an unrelated note, the storytelling you've been doing has inspired the Cryptfinders to begin sharing one of their own: a harrowing battle against a mummy guarding the tomb they were assigned.

Epperson immediately breaks away from the Daughters to avidly listens to the story of the Cryptfinders.

”Mummies are curse-bringers. I am very interested in this story. Tell me about any evidence of curses that you experienced, kindly.”

He sits at the Cryptfinders table like a rapt pupil.

Hearing the gelatinous cube killed half the halflings dogs, Tribim frowned and said, "I'm sorry to hear that." Not that he was actually sorry. In all actuality he didn't care for dogs and the loss of a few scruffy mongrels for a precious antique seemed like a great trade. But he couldn't say that to a halfling dog rider and not hurt their feelings. So instead, he nods towards the blade. "Let me know what you do with it ok?"

Seeing his old acquaintance across the room, Tribim started to move that way. Leaving the halflings table he begins to sway with the music. Realizing what he was doing, he tied to walk straight, but he just ended up looking like he was a little drunk. Chuckling to himself, he'd know she'd always had a thing for arachnids and now she'd named her team after them. Approaching the table he nods, "Hey girl, long time no see, how did you and the scorpions do?" Blinking he adds, "Please introduce me to your hive, er, bed, er group."

@Epperson: "Well, it's quite the tale, I must say. We were assigned the tomb of a pharaoh. Akhentempi was his name. His mummy tried to inflict the 'curse of living death' upon me when I began plundering his horde of riches, but Valeros here (he nudges the mage beside him) managed to remove it before my skin rotted off."
This is normally the part where I'd roll Sense Motive for you, but the deception should be obvious. ;-)

@Tribim: Normally a taciturn individual, Black Kiss gives you a half-smile as you approach. "Sounds like you had quite the adventure. We weren't so lucky. Our site was in the middle of one of the ghoul haunts, and I lost two of my crew before we manages to get away. You don't happen to know any clerics or necromancers that I could borrow, do you?"

Epperson blinks, looking between the two adventurers.

”I don’t believe you,” he frowns monotonously. Suddenly, his thumb travels to his nose.

”THBBBBBT!”

GM:
Yup.

”Now THAT is a curse effect - you’ll notice how it feels “wrong”? The dwarf seems to be instructing the two Cryptfinders. ”I’m not sure what you experienced in your tomb, but it wasn’t a curse.”

GM:
Dismissing the maledictions.

”But now you know what to look for. Not that it matters - we’ll all die somehow in the end,” and Epperson moves back to his table.

Nodding, Tribim realized they had had quite the adventure hadn't they. Raising an eyebrow when she admitted her group hadn't faired so well. Considering B.K.'s question. He ponders the priestess he knew, contemplating if any of them were adventurous enough to help his old acquaintance out. Nodding, one came to mind, "I know a Priestess of Bastet, her name is Delilah a catfolk like myself. she's known for being a dancer, but she is an accomplished priestess in her own right and she's very, um, adventurous. She may be willing to help you if the price is right."

@Epperson: The Cryptfinder gasps as he suddenly finds himself unable to move until you dismiss the curse. As soon as they're able, the entire group makes a speedy exit.

@Tribim: Black Kiss nods. "Thank you for that information. I may look her up."

During your various conversations, the Scorched Hand becomes increasingly irritated before their leader (a Taldan woman) finally shouts out, "It's not fair, I say! We're followers of Nethys, so it's only logical that we be the group to explore the Temple of the Erudite Eye. The fact that our petition was denied is borderline sacrilegious! And then they assigned us a brothel! There's no way that was 'random chance,' like they claim. How do I make an official complaint?"

Mahmoud looks over at the Taldan woman causing the ruckus, sizing her up. He leisurely comes to his feet and approaches. "The priests of Pharasma who work in the High Temple are loyal to their goddess, and pious believers. I do not think that they would corrupt the ceremony of drawing lots to twist the outcome as you suggest. Perhaps your anger at your misfortune has caused you to speak in haste?" He says this mildly, but with a hint of menace in his expression and stance.

Nodding to his old acquaintance, Tribim hoped that if Delilah wasn't willing to help her that someone would.

Making his way back to his own team as the Taldan woman began to complain, Tribim tries to measure Mahmoud's response. It didn't look like his friend was itching for a fight, Tribim knew he certainly wasn't, but alcohol effected different people differently.

Chuckling at his dwarven friends observation, Tribim takes a drink of his ale, leaning in, his words slightly slurred. "We followers of Bastet solved the problem. Made out brothels and temples the same building."
