The Hound Archon takes the long way around avoiding pink's reach entirely. He moves towards the captain attempting to strike him down.

Slashing, Power Attack: 2d6 + 3 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 3 + 6 = 15
Then again with that roll, maybe not ...
The captain is within the archon's Aura of Menace and must make a Will DC 16 saving throw or take -2 on ac, attacks and saves.
His goodly presence can be appreciated by his allies within ten feet of his person (Magic Circe vs Evil provides a +2 deflection bonus to ac and a +2 resistance bonus to saving throw vs evil opponents).
@GM Chrios - I have no idea if these people are evil or not. If they are then everyone near the hound archon has the equivalent of Protection from Evil up. :)

Pebble slams the remaining sailor, and then Igor's force missiles slam into the man - knocking him unconscious and leaving him bleeding on the ground. Eredur's spell takes hold on the captain as the man's clothing erupts in fire, and the hound's Aura of Menace washes over the captain... But the hound's blade sails by the man, missing horribly!

Igor stays put for now. With the captain so outnumbered and two of his minions already in the fight he feels no immediate need to come on board.

The hound archon's attacks miss the captain, but Pebble punches him squarely in the knee! Piotr's bec de corbin spikes the captain as well, and his pale visage snarls with pain as the warpriest attempts to dissuade him from his course of action; but still he continues to threaten the group who boarded his ship. Jilla's face brightens as she smiles and says "Ooh, I've got an idea!" She pulls out a small, rust-colored sack and reaches into it to retrieve a little fuzzy ball. "I've never used this before!" She drops the fuzzy ball on the ground and it transforms into a rainbow-colored boar! Jilla claps and points at the captain, and the boar leaps to attack him!
Jilla has a variant rust-colored bag of tricks from a scenario that took place in the First World. I have to check the actual Chronicle to remember exactly what the variant does (I think it gives them a little DR/Silver or something) but will proceed for now and update later. The result of the die roll is a boar.

"That's better." Piotr says with a satisfied smirk as the captain freezes in place.
"Tie him up and search him, too." he says as he slides his polearm into its sheath on his back.
After the group binds the captain with rope, Piotr withdraws his esquire attaché case. He pulls out a pen, sticks it in the frozen captain's hand, and holds the captain's limp hand to make him sign an official-looking document allowing the Search and Seizure of the "Sailswift" in the name of her Highness, Princess Eutropia of Taldor. Piotr then pulls the captain's head up by the hair, looks into his eyes, and says with a pleasant smile, "Thank you, kind sir."
He then addresses his teammates as he packs his attaché case.

@GM Chrios - Jilla has 13 temporary hit points now so the last attack (4 hit points of damage) would have been absorbed completely. :)
Hold Person allows a new save every round (as a full round action) so we are really not off initiative, yet. :)
The Hound Archon does not understand Piotr's strange behaviour.
"By the gods you are as bad as the Azata!"
The upright canine harrumphs loudly and shakes his head. He continues his attacks on the captain but this time he uses the flat of his blade to subdue rather than kill.
With Hold Person in place the Captain now has a Dexterity of 0 and melee attacks have a +4 bonus to hit.
Great Sword, Subdue, bonus to attack, Power Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 4 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 9 - 4 + 4 - 2 = 19

Tiny Pebble |

Tiny Pebble simply stands his ground. He is certain that an enraged archon can deal with a frozen opponent.
Total Defence action is taken.

![]() |

Igor shakes his head knowing full well that Piotr's outrageous action would not count as legal in any legitimate court in the land.

![]() |

I figured that the moment the captain was held, we would immediately tie him up rather than continue to attack. And, yes, Piotr's crazy antics with the fake document was just a charade.
Anywho, If you all just want to continue to attack the captain, then I'm fine with Piotr's charade never happening. Piotr will just back off and let the hound archon finish off the captain.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I think that it is a little late for that. Your character did what he did and it will have no impact on the game anyways. It is just a little RP flavour that no one should willingly squash. :)
Of course a Hound Archon would not approve. They are lawful to a fault even fighting with other good aligned outsiders when their objectives conflict.

![]() |

With the battle won, Jilla pats the rainbow-colored boar on the head. She then scrunches up her face and says to the others: "What'd we come here for anyway? I forgot because of the cool lily pads. Let's poke around--maybe they'll be something neat!"
Jilla starts scouring the ship for something neat.

![]() |

Piotr turns to Jilla.
"We need to find any information regarding the Spider. Possibly something linking them to this ship. We should look for the captain's logbooks and ledgers. While we're here, we should also interrogate one of these crew members."
"If we find any illegal contraband, it may be best to turn the crew and this ship over to the port authority."

![]() |

So lets search the boat. One or two people can interrogate the crew or captain, while the other look around for some proofs of the Spider's activites. Remember we must act quick.

GM Chrios |

The second option would be appropriate there, roll away!
Piotr quickly secures the captain while the Hold Person spell acts on Rouvarn after the Hound Archon bludgeons the man twice while he's incapacitated. With a flourish, Piotr stands up with his official-looking document, having caught a look equal parts hatred, fear, and anger from the captain. A quick search of the captain's pockets turns up a set of keys.
Around the main mast, Zeldana and Winnie have placed the sailors back to back around the mast, all three unconscious from the rapid assault of the Pathfinders. All seems quiet for the moment, allowing the party to search the ship.

Piotr enters the captain's quarters and has a look around with his teammates.
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19

GM Chrios |

Jilla, in her oversized hat, leads the party on a thorough search of the captain's quarters, Piotr and Igor helping her sift through bills of lading (obvious forgeries), manifests (also completely made-up), and some small personal correspondence. Most notably, a letter covered in spidery, feminine script See slide 5.
What are the remaining party members doing?

![]() |

Jilla sighs and grumbles through all the incredibly boring paperwork until she gets to the letter. "This looks like a capital 'C' Clue!" she shouts.

![]() |

Igor nods quickly glancing down at the letter.
"It looks like the captain would be a helpful witness as well. If he has the proper incentive to cooperate."
"We should keep all the forged paperwork here to encourage him to do the right thing at the right time."

![]() |

"Why leave the papers here, Igor? We need to turn him over to the authorities."
Piotr gathers the papers and stuffs them in his attaché case. He's got plenty of evidence to turn over to the authorities about the captain's illegal shipping practices.
"Well. The Spider is connected to this ship in some way. We need to find this 'shipment' mentioned in the letter. I suggest we check the hold of the ship."
"Should we interrogate the Captain now or after we check the hold? I have a little business to take care of with the captain before we turn him over to the authorities."

![]() |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Igor blushes at the miscommunication. Language is a funny thing at times.
"Yes, I meant that we should use the paper work against him as leverage. By all means hold on to it for now. It should be very helpful to build our case."

GM Chrios |

After some small discussion, the group crosses to the hold, quickly unlocking the large padlock with the keys found on the captain. He glares balefully at you as you pass, at least as much as a bound and gagged man on the ground can.
The lock opens with a resounding *click* and the hold door swings wide. From within you hear the shuffling of heavy chains, and a voice addresses you from within. I'm sorry- no autographs at this time, our manager will be handling all requests for the Part-time players until we've returned from our engagements at the Royal Small Theater of Cheliax. We need our privacy to continue to rehearse, if you don't mind. I've got the lead in our upcoming performance of Peteraburo's Books, and the part is wonderfully complicated, the facial expressions alone in the script take dozens of pages, and the ensemble numbers.... But never let it be said that Malcolm McWirsting shied away from a role - especially for such a prestigious opportunity. Now, GOOD DAY! you feel summarily dismissed from the voice in the darkness, and perhaps slightly confused, yet here you stand, on a Katapeshi sloop a darkened hold below you.

![]() |

The wizard partially draws his dagger and light spills forth from his blade filling the hold of the ship. He looks at the man and tries to see if this man is indeed Malcom McWirsting (assuming that this person is actually an actor of significance).
24 Knowledge Local (or Nobility if that helps).

GM Chrios |

In the light produced by Igor, the party can see the dank hold of the ship contains ten relatively well-dressed individuals, and to Igor, Zeldana, Piotr, and anyone else who consulted the Blue Book of Almas, are indeed whom they say they are. The speaking man is, in fact, Malcolm McWirsting. The ten folks are indeed shackled at the ankles with new, thick chains.
The Part-time players are part of the performers in residency at "The Captive Audience" in the Theater District of Almas.
They are all under the effects of a Charm Person spell.

"That's the cargo? A theater troup?"
Piotr tries to get a good look at the man and what is going on in the hold.
Darkvision.

![]() |

Igor is curious about the lead's mental condition and casts Detect Magic to verify.
"Curious."
Igor examines the leader's and troupe's auras and does confirm that it is indeed the Charm Person spell that was used.
30 Knowledge Arcana on a take 10.
Detect Magic will only detect the school of magic and not the spell cast. It requires a Knowledge Arcana check DC 20+spell level to determine a spell effect that is already in place (which Igor does easily).

![]() |

Zel looks at Igor. "What's the deal with these bards?"

![]() |

Well, bards rarely act normal. Maybe that's normal for them?
