Mithralline's vicious strikes slash the attic whisperer to pieces! Meanwhile, Telvir batters the shadow with more magic missiles, then Ceceka destroys it with two powerful blows!

Investigating the attic, you find many mementos of Nebumi and Kepgeda’s childhood: homemade toys, children’s books, and unusual rocks. Stick-figure art depicts “Geda” (Kepgeda), “Numi” (Nebumi), and “Tavia” (their mother). Many other drawings depict “Daddy,” but all of them are different except that he’s carrying an axe in each hand. The children never knew their father and had no idea what he looked like, only that he was a woodsman.

The children’s toys and other odds and ends that fill the attic are old and well used, with no monetary value. However, the toy fox with blood-red buttons for eyes is a stuffed fox wondrous figurine.

The stuffed fox can be activated once a day and remains in its form for up to 1 hour.

Aily is limping heavily, her back of her black dress and her black hair are soaked in her own blood, and she has a look of pure venomous annoyance. After a moment of her hand squeezing her hilt as hard as possible, and her dark eyes looking around for another enemy PLEASE, she sheathed her dagger behind her skirts, brushed the dust of the front of her pleats and said calmly (mostly calmly) "'She' is fine, thank you sir."

Oh, that fox could be nice for Mithralline, considering she could probably use a mount. Also, based on Discord, it's adorable. Also, this is seriously tragic up here.

Caraid casts a minor cantrip to guide himself and then sets to work on Aily's wounds, patching what he can in a mundane fashion before handing her a small ball of a thick, black substance.

"Eat this if you need to." He says, oddly serious. "The after-effects are nasty though, so its for emergencies only." Black energy crackles across his hands and Aily's wounds close into little more than raw scars.

"That's the best I can do for now." He says. "Onward then, to the basement."

On the way there he touches Ceceka on the shoulder briefly, establishing a conduit between them.

Life Link

The stairs down to the basement reach far longer than an ordinary staircase should, and they are rickety and treacherous. At last, you come to a large open space that is shrouded in darkness, pierced only by Caraid's magical light. The ground looks soft, like moist earth. Towering piles of books, clothing, knickknacks, cooking and ritual ingredients, and decades of refuse lie piled on the floor and furniture in enormous mounds. A winding path meanders through the hoarded belongings. A faint light flickers in the northwest, illuminating a large and bubbling black cauldron.

You follow the light into a kitchen. Besides the cauldron, the kitchen includes a stone countertop for preparing food and spell ingredients, and cupboards stuffed full of kitchen tools and commonly used items. A row of ritual books with blood-red bindings are neatly lined up on the countertop. The countertop is covered in blood ad raw body parts.

A hulking hag that can only be Iron Taviah works over her cauldron, attended by a female fetchling. A tiny shadow drake is curled up nearby. Taviah glances over her shoulder as you draw near. “Come in, come in,” the old hag beckons, almost laughing as she stands at her cauldron. “Who are you, and why have you come all this way, into my kitchen? Perhaps you’re guests, here to see if Iron Taviah’s hospitality is all it’s rumored to be? Pity my sisters aren’t here to welcome you. They so love guests.”

Aily smiles at Caraid. She might still be way out of sorts due to the mess all over her, and the poor performance, but the smile is genuine.

But it's not quite potent enough, so I've had to spice it up with powder from the ground up bones of the fey. Now it'll do!" With this, she lets out a long, drawn-out cackle straight from a storybook.

Aily feels a twinge of pride at her dagger throw (which was awesome! thank you!), but the battle is far from over.

"My lady, the armor is about to..." she stops, since the armor in indeed do what she was about to mention. Then with a sigh, she darts around the armor to the mistress of the armor. "Yes, useless" she agrees with the woman as she stabs her, about who she is agreeing is useless is less obvious.

Caraid batters her with his warhammer. Mithralline and Smoke fail to land a good hit, but Aily finds a gap in her defenses to drive her dagger into the hag's back. Once you get to the stairs, you run the risk of being pushed back down into the basement as the staircase tries to swallow you.
