At the looming foot of Droskar’s Crag, a dormant volcano, the Pathfinder Society’s base camp bustles with activity. Wagons arrive with new goods as merchants set up shop. A steady stream of Pathfinders trickles into the camp, and joyful greetings fill the air, together with whispered rumors about the mission ahead. Venture-Captain Luna Aldred has called everyone here for a major expedition, and if the rumors are to be believed, the secret road to a legendary lost city awaits!

A tien woman wearing a flowery surcoat kneels serenely while playing softly on some sort of strange harp. On the ground next to her is an elaborately decorated glaive. The entire shaft covered with carved dragons and monsters while the blade is etched with chrysanthemums. Several younger pathfinders surround her and listen as she sings about recent events at Droskar's Crag. The song seems to be a series of haikus set to music but the meter is strange.

I've spoilered the song for anyone that hasen't played the 2-19 or 3-10. Spoilers are mild but don't click if you want to be completely surprised.

A full orc enters the camp, and people scatter in front of him to avoid getting trampled. On the orc's back is a comically undersized shortbow, along with a periscope.

Aktuh pulls out a pair of reading glasses and begins looking over his instructions very carefully. "Excuse me," he says, trying to get a terrified gnome's attention. "Pardon me," he asks once more, trying to get instructions to his assigned tent. Everyone ignores him, scurrying away to avoid getting trampled underfoot.

He hears the sound of a stringed instrument - a plucked stringed instrument. He recalls the dossiers on his teammates, and follows the sound of this fascinating performance. Seeing the crowd gathered outside the tent, he infers that he has reached his destination.

He sits politely, cross-legged on the ground, and waits for her performance to finish before introducing himself.

A focused woman of Vudrani descent enters the chaotic scene, her measured steps masking her excitement and pride at the assemblage of Pathfinder strength and reach.

She wears the simple robes of a student of the Houses of Perfection in Jalmeray and the colors indicate the Monastery of Unfolding Wind.

She too is drawn to the song - and proceeds there, taking a cross-legged seat at the Tien woman's feet. Her eyes close and her head meanders to the jilted meter as she concentrates on the meaning of it.

"Well boy. Looks like everyone else is leavin' you alone." The elven woman watches the Orc divert everyone's attention. "Lucky for us, eh?" She proceeds forward astride a white-furred wolf as big as a wagon.

Still, it doesn't hurt to ask around. That song can definitely wait. Miladistra's ears finally nag her enough to approach the tent. She pulls out her piccolo and tries to harmonize with the harp.

A rather tall woman of mixed ancestry joins the milling crowd.

"Anybody seen a short sighted historian?" she asks hopefully. Then, hearing her name, heads over toward the assembling team.

"Hello everyone! I'm Teja Khellekdottir." she announces.

"I'm a scholar and a medic. But no miracle worker. If you get your head chopped off, that is well beyond my ability."

She considers the sights all around her.

She smiles as she sees the other women join the group. "Well, this makes for a pleasant change." She eyes up Aktuh suspiciously, but says nothing - yet.

Anyone observing the self-proclaimed scholar for more than a moment or two will note some contridictions within her.

She is a tall (human) woman wearing the robes of a scholar, and the ink on her fingers certainly tells the tail of someone familiar with the use of a quill, and not scared of their sharp ends.

However hanging at her waist there is another sharp object, a rapier. And the calluses on her hands show that the quill is not the only pointed object she is familiar with wielding.

Her height and build give mute testimony to her Kellid ancestry, however her face is finer and her eyes are violet, almost purple, indicating a strong varisian influence in her makeup.

And then there is the way she moves, almost like a dancer. Gliding across the ground she seems to flow more than step.

Miladistra takes a break to shake everyone's hands. "Howdy ya'll. My name's Miladistra. And this fluffy feller is Deroff." It doesn't take much time for the wolf to walk up to each person in the group, sniff them, and then await pettings.

She sighs. "He's a glory hound for attention. I wonder what the Society has in store for us this time? I asked the School of Spells for a Scroll of Heal, just in case."

The harpist finishes her song and looks out at her audience. "My song is sadly still incomplete. Perhaps this expedition will provide me with a proper ending."

The healing powers granted to me as a priestess of the Lady of Chrysanthemums are insufficient to that particular task nor has The Dawnflower provided me with such ability. Therisah ponders the meaning of the song as she pets Deroff and concludes that Droskar's Crag is likely to be a haven for undead. As the wolf eventually wanders away, she rubs her hands together, comforting in the slight tingle of the healing energy that pulses through the hand-wraps. With a single-leg-hop-up, she moves over to the quartermaster and reaches into the healing potion basket.

Miladistra tweaks her nose as Jun-Mei explains her path. "Looks like we all have ways to heal injuries. A gift from Mother." And not from the gods, that's for sure.

Deroff trots alongside her and bumps into her hip, breaking her stance. "Thank you Deroff. We have a lot to deal with."

Coming from another direction, the gathered Pathfinders clear a path. This time it is not by choice, though. They are pushed and shoved out of the way. In fact, it is hard to see what's causing the commotion until the cause gets close.

A feral looking gnome with fierce feature and wild hair walks straight through the crowd, refusing to divert to left or right.

He clearly looks like some sort of martial character but is all but unarmed, wearing only a spiked gauntlet and carrying a couple javelins. But he looks far too wild to be a monk.

He is glad to shake hands with the lady and is also glad to see so many women in the group, though clearly not for the same reason.

"Well, I don't know what we're here to do, but I think I'm going to like it.

"Zabu Creed. It'll be your pleasure to meet me," he says with a grin that shows his sharp canines.

He lets the wolf smell him and gives him a pet and a scratch but then sends him on his way.

"The Sunken Halls sounds interesting. Takes me back to my first trips with The Society where I seemed to spend more time under the water than over it." suggests Teja.

"[b]I'll need to get a waterproof bag for my writing gear though.

Venture-Captain Luna Aldred bangs on her shield to gain the attention of the gathered crowd. As the noise dies down, she points to a piece of stretched canvas with a whittled stick. “When I was first told about the discovery of a ruined outpost under this mountain, I assigned a few agents to explore it.”

On the canvas, charcoal and chalk outline a sprawling underground complex. The map already lists names, discoveries, and potential hazards. However, three highlighted routes lead past the end of the explored segments. Each route is labelled with a name and shaded with a distinctive color: yellow for the Labyrinth, blue for the Sunken Halls, and white for Unsealed Way.

“Their preliminary explorations found extensive ruins, as well as signs that this path will lead us to a find that’s worthy of the Pathfinder Chronicles: the lost city of Raseri Kanton, which has been missing for almost a thousand years! This expedition warrants a large team. I reckon this group is enough, though I won’t turn away any stragglers.” Venture-Captain Aldred chuckles.

Her tone darkens as she continues, “This expedition was set to take months. However, the Aspis Consortium has heard of our plans, and they’ll surely be dispatching their own teams. We need to act quickly before those destructive louts claim the ruins. Move quickly, but not recklessly. Report back regularly. And for all that Aroden left us, don’t die.

“You know what to do. Explore. Report. Cooperate.”

Zabu barely pays attention during the briefing. In fact he shouts approval when he hears the term "destructive louts." Instead, he tries to chat up the various ladies in the group.

But when the briefing's done and Teja voices her opinion, he's quick to agree and move.

"Come on, folks. We all want to get wet, don't we?" he says with a grin, walking backwards toward the tunnel to the Sunken Halls for several steps before turning and breaking into a trot.

"Have we met..." Miladistra trails off before shaking her head and leaping on Deroff's back. "Time to find a lost city before those snakes catch up."

"I have heard of the consortium" agrees Teja. "and had some interactions of a less than ideal nature with them. But also some positive ones. They, like the society are a group of individuals."

You may update any daily preparations knowing where you're going, now.

You come to a consensus to explore the sunken halls. Leaving the collection of tents and wagons at the end of a freshly cut road that serves as your base camp, you pass one of the few sentry patrols. They wave congenially. The base camp has nearly nothing in the way of defensive fencing and certainly not walls. A problem for those of greater authority or, at least, for later.

Upon reaching the lake, there is a tent standing next to several crates. Two armored guards flank the crates while two Scrollmasters hand out potions to the assembling Pathfinders. "One each. One each," says one of the Scrollmasters. "If you return tomorrow, we will give you another."

As your turn in the queue arrives, a Scrollmaster hands you a flask. "Potion of water breathing. It will last an hour. Best not to dilly dally. Be efficient in the water. Follow the rope down. There's a little light down there from the algae but not much."

At the lake shore, there is a post driven into the mud with a taught rope leading into the lake. "Keep your hand on the rope and you can't miss the tunnel," says a Swordmaster at the lakeshore.

You each have 1 potion of water breathing to use. The rope will lead to the underwater entrance where the light is Dim.
Please let me know any preparations you are making before entering the water: light sources, long acting buffs, equipment changes, etc.

Zabu takes the lid off the potion then sticks the top in his mouth. He grabs the rope and wades in. When the water is up to his chin (which doesn't take long) he tips his head back and drains the contents before spitting the empty container out to the side.

"See you at the bottom," he says, the last word bubbling up as his head goes underwater.

Jun-Mei carefully stores her gayaguem and anything else she wishes to keep dry into her bag of holding. She pulls her wayfinder out from under her tabard and immediately commands it to light the way. After one last check of her equipment, she drinks her potion of water breathing and follows Zabu into the lake.

Therisah knots her robes around her extremities and quaffs the potion. Igniting her wayfinder, she sinks into the water.

Teja eyes the cold water, removes her items likely to be harmed by the water, drinks the potion and follows the other ladies into the water.

My, breathing water is surprisingly refreshing. she thinks, peering through the darkness toward the light carried by Jun-Mei.

"Alright, Deroff. I'll be back, alright?" She strokes the wolf's fur, ruffling him when he whines. "I only have one potion. I don't want you drownin' on me."

"If I don't come back, you find Uncle, alright?" She drinks the potion and dives in.

One of the few times she regrets arguing with Mother. It's so difficult to push the water out of the way, yet for Mother it was like riding a sled. Even Deroff was a better swimmer.

"Oh, hey, I'll give you one for your dog," the Swordmaster says. "If you want. How good a swimmer is he?"

Since swimming is horrible without a swim speed, you might not want to, but your animal companion can go with you.

As you near the sunken tunnel, you can make out the faint glow of the bioluminescent algae. The far end of the rope is tied to an anchor positioned right next to the tunnel. Releasing the guide rope, you swim inside.

Faintly glowing algae tints jagged stone walls in a green light. A fine silt that clouds the water with every movement covers the bottoms of the chamber, though it settles seconds later. Clearly manufactured steps start at the base of the floor and sink to deeper waters in the flooded room to the east.

Height from floor to ceiling is 20 ft.
Hand holds on the wall allow you use Climb (DC 10) to move instead of Swim when adjacent to the walls.

Miladistra does not recall much about eels or giant eels other than that they are carnivorous and live in water (19 is a Failure). She concentrates her magical energies upon the eels anyways. A shower of sparkling light erupts, but it does not seem to have much effect beyond making the wounded one shimmery.

Two more giant eels swim out from the shadowed crevices within the cave and over you. One turns toward the blind end and the other towards the exit. The first snaps at Therisah. It is preternaturally accurate and bite down hard on her arm, holding her tight within its teeth. The last grabs hold of Zabu with its teeth, although his rage numbs him to much of the pain.

Teja feels the jaws loosen on her as Akuth fires an arrow into its still sparking eye.

The eel chewing on Akuth finds him too big to swallow so lets go and tries to tear a chunk of meat off of him (Miss). Blood blooms in the water as the eel rips a morsel of orc flesh from Akuth's body and, not understanding the concept of bows (or orcs), swims away to enjoy it (Natural 20).
