Hi GM,
Just a note that my character has access to an item from a chronicle sheet with the following ability: If a bard uses the horn to start a bardic performance, all effects of that performance are calculated as if the bard were 6 levels higher. This doesn’t grant the bard access to new bardic performances; it only enhances those to which the bard already has access.

Hello team, I need to inform you all about mechanical stuff related to Xiao Junior that affects all of you!

MISFORTUNE revelation - REROLLING ANY d20 ROLL BEFORE KNOWING THE RESULT

Misfortune (Ex): At 1st level, as an immediate action, you can force a creature within 30 feet to reroll any one d20 roll that it has just made before the results of the roll are revealed. The creature must take the result of the reroll, even if it’s worse than the original roll. Once a creature has suffered from your misfortune, it cannot be the target of this revelation again for 1 day.

The trickiest thing for everyone to keep track of in a PbP format is his Misfortune revelation. Basically, he can require anyone (including allies) to reroll a d20 once/day.
Caveats: it uses his immediate action (so it's not available when he's still flatfooted) and it has a 30' range limitation.

This means that
a) I can use it on you once/day per person;
b) but I can only use it once/round (since it uses my immediate);
c) so as an ally try to stay within 30' of Xiao if possible.

To my fellow players: In a PbP format, I will use this ability but if you want to you each can decide for yourselves if you want to use the ability and just be sure that someone else hasn't already used my immediate action previously that round.

To the GM: With regard to foes, I'll use the ability but if you see a crit against a player or important saving throw against a foe, then you can also bot the misfortune using the following priorities:
- Enemy attack rolls: If a foe threatens a crit against a player then Xiao will immediate action misfortune the initial attack roll.
- Enemy saving throws: When they have to make an important save and have rolled 13 or better on the d20 roll then Xiao will immediate action misfortune the saving throw roll.

SAVING FINALE - REROLLING A FAILED SAVING THROWS

To fellow players: Saving Finale is a spell I can only use when I have a performance active but if you have already used Misfortune on yourself and fail a saving throw then this could help.

Caveats:
a) you must be within 30';
b) this also uses my immediate action, so it might not be available if I've already used it for Misfortune;
c) this depends on me having Bardic Performance up, which I will normally do.
d) In the case of Saving Finale, you can actually wait to see whether or not you failed (as opposed to Misfortune, where you only see the die roll, not the result), so this is a very handy bailout.

In a similar vein, Marik also has some abilities which will have a mechanical impact on the rest of the party. Specifically:

If you are small or smaller and within 60' of Marik: You gain a +1 luck bonus vs fear. (Small Quarters Ally)
If Marik aids another: He provides a +4 bonus (rather than the normal +2) to the skill check, attack, AC, save etc... which he is aiding. (Helpful Halfling)
If you get attacked and are adjacent to Marik: Marik can used an attack of opportunity to improve your AC by +4. (Bodyguard)
If Marik hits an evil creature within 30' of you: You gain +2 to hit and +1 to damage vs that creature until Marik's next turn. These are both competence bonuses. (Weal's Champion)
While Marik occupies an opponents square: All allies adjacent to both that opponent and Marik are considered flanking with Marik. Opponent suffers -4 to hit or attempt a combat maneuver vs anyone who isn't Marik. (Underfoot Assault)

Note that Weal's Champion won't stack with things like Inspire Courage as they are both competence bonuses. I've added a spoiler with the above in Marik's profile, so its also available there if needed.


The Waking Rune

Couple of observations on Marik's abilities:

Small Quarter Ally applies to allies who are the same Size category as Marik, not "small or smaller"*. If Marik is Small, only Small allies benefit. If Marik changes size, Small Quarter Ally works on allies who are the size that Marik becomes.

Weal's Champion provides its bonuses to the party only when Marik has activated the ability, which he can do once per day as a swift action. The ability gives Marik +CHA to attack vs (all) evil creatures and +1 (=1/2 paladin level) damage against them for 1 round (=1/2 paladin level), and if Marik hits any evil creature during that round then allies gain the Competence bonuses stated in Marik's post above for 1 round provided the ally is within 30' of Marik and can both see and hear him.

*Unless Nethys is wrong. I don't own a copy of Heroes of the Fringe so I stand to be corrected if the actual source says different.

The Waking Rune

This scenario has an optional Hard Mode.

Hard Mode presents additional challenge above and beyond the standard level. Playing in Hard Mode does not provide any additional reward beyond bragging rights. There is an exception - I believe there are one or two convention boons that do provide rewards for completing a number of Hard Mode scenarios.

Please let me know if you would like to attempt Hard Mode. All players must be unanimous, otherwise we play in normal mode.

Myth are you level 7 or 8? As you noted, this affects the option to choose the 4-player adjustment.

Yes, it should do. Fearless is a racial bonus and the bonus from Marik is a luck bonus so as they are different bonus types they should stack (so long as Marik remains small sized). If it becomes relevant Fearless gives a bonus vs fear, while Marik’s bonus is vs ‘fear effects’.

As for muffins Marik likes all flavours.

The pearl of power is only useful for prepared casters who would lose a spell once cast. I'm not sure we have any.

I always found that Paladin detect evil is kind of strange as it is not so good for covering large areas.

That a good point. I'd forgot it takes a bit longer to work out where the auras are, so he'd only know that there is evil in the room ahead of him but not where exactly it is in the room.

Paladin Detect Evil (Sp): At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.

Just to confuse matters, although Marik is a paladin he is using his shining wayfinder, which allows him to cast the spell version rather than the paladin version.

That's a little bit the best of both worlds. He can use the wayfinder to get the first round of detect evil on the room, and then use the paladin version to get three rounds of info in a move action (I think?) on the items that need to be meticulously studied.

Sadly one of his architypes traded away the paladin version (although he got other good stuff in return), so the wayfinder allows him to still feal like he's a proper paladin!

It is an excellent item and vanity - however the Shining Wayfinder's Detect Evil function only works for a Good character. My LN dhampir Silver Crusade member is sad.

As Derpi is 9th level would she get 5 magic missiles rather than 4? Likewise, would Myth also get an iterative attack in addition to the rapid shot and haste ones? Thought I’d better check just to be on the safe side.

Was the spell cast by the allip which caused the confusion an enchantment spell? I spotted that Myth has a bonus on saves vs enchantment and wondered it that would help him avoid the confusion?

It is an enchantment yes. Myth, I can see a racial bonus of +2 vs Enchantment, but your tagline says you get +5 - is that a typo or do you have other bonuses applicable to get to +5?

Just to clarify, by ‘gives it’ here I meant administer it, rather than just hand it over. Although, I’ve just realised that may not be mechanically possible, as such Marik would do something different with his turn.

A Confused person has no allies, and so will resist any attempt to feed her potions or alchemical concoctions.

You can administer the tea to a sufficiently restrained target - pinned or helpless (as long as they can still swallow).
