Take what advantage you can get, and build it as large as you can, and things will go easier later, normally.

Crossing his arms, "Nope, you still don't get it do you, rookie?" he asks rhetorically, shaking his head. "Ah well, one day you'll figure it out. But hey, if that's what works in YOUR mind then go for it, buddy. Let me know how that works out for you. I'm calling it a night." Joran then prepares to leave and turn in for the night.

Those eyes were met with blue eyes of her own, though with far less certainty. Her mind was too busy going over the scenarios.

Wait... could he be her son? He does match the description and no one else's disputing it. Or he could be lying through his teeth. There is such a thing as impersonators. But he does look beautiful. He? She? They? The half-elf never really gave her a gender. Or am I still too damn drunk?

All that thinking nearly caused her to fall over before she caught herself, alcohol making her cheek slightly darker.

"Whether that's true or not, I don't think those guys would care." she looked over her shoulder towards the officers.

"Unless Tess shares Calistria's lust for revenge."

Ming's mood just got worse and worse on that bloody ship.
A pirate keelhauling a man for stealin something that was most likely stolen in the first place...
On the other hand, the guy had let himself get caught, not something she intended to do.

Anyways, she was already sure at some point she would make them pay. She did not like to be shanghaied and put to work like that.
That Rosie might make a good friend though, after what just happened to her.

Ming walked up to take her rum, something quite welcome.

Then she at down next to Destinie.
I think i saw you before, at the Formidably Maid. Pretty sure you took free drinks from a fellow. Now look where that got you.
Made the same mistake though, or that one gal sneaked something in one of my drinks. Think it was that. How did your first day on this beautiful cruise go? Was it as pleasant as mine?

As he partakes of the slop in front of him, Joran looks around at the others to see who it is she's talking to. Figuring anyone can answer, "Honestly? Well, I could be better. You know, all this kidnapping, letting people die in a box, keelhauling... I don't know... it does leave something to be desired," he answers, grinning wryly and shooting a wink. "I knew it!" She bobbed her head as she frowned.

She looked up at the strange girl and shrugged. "I think I lucked out with the chore today. The red-head in the hat Sandara Quinn helped me get through with that one, but I managed."

You all eventually find your way into the hammocks you awoke in this morning. Some of you find sleep quickly, tired from a day of hard labor. Others find it difficult to sleep in a swaying bed, in a hold filled with snoring and smelly pirates, imagining any of whom might slit your throat as you rest.

Everyone heals 1 CON damage and recovers from fatigue.

Morning comes all too soon, and any escape dreams afforded evaporates as folks awaken. The bell that tolled at dusk last night rings once again, and the crew wakes and begins filing up onto the deck. You all make to follow them, when a group interposes themselves between you and the stairs.

A bald man with a stocky build seemed to lead them, with five others gathered behind – a scarred half orc, a big Rahadoumi man with a scowling face, a woman whose smile was anything but friendly, another woman who had the look of a working girl past her prime, and Tam, the dwarf whom Ming had left a bad impression on the day before.

The bald man grinned tauntingly and shoved Katara in the chest, as she'd been nearest to the steps. ”In a hurry?” Other than a few crew members lingering on the steps to watch, the others had all made their way to the deck already, leaving the lot of you alone with this welcoming committee.

Not having any of it and politely stepping in front of Katara, "Excuse me, darlin'," and up to the big man, he gets right in his face. "Okay, look here, fatty, why don't you shove on somebody your own size. That is, if you're smart enough to figure something like that out. As a matter of fact, why don't you take your lackey half-orc, that other fellow who looks like he should be the leader of this rag-tag band instead of you, the freaky psycho looking chick, the overweight hooker and your dwarf buddy and get the hell out of our way, hm? And I'm asking nicely so you should be thankful," he tells him, grinning, while staring him dead in the eye.

Needless to say, she was feeling drowsy even as she woke up with some pain in her chest. After nearly falling off a hammock twice in consecutive days, she made her way to the deck. "Gods... what was in that drink?"

With any luck, she was hoping to get the next day through with little trouble... only to be confronted by what looks like the welcoming party.

To which she let out a large groan. "It's way too early for this. Can't you just let us a pass today. We outnumber you anyways."

Terry just shakes his head as the old guard tries to create problems for the new guys. "Okay, I get it. You want us all to get in trouble for missing the morning call. How are you going to do that without missing call yourselves? Do you think seeing us in trouble will make your pain less?"

I know the others are trying to play nice, and I'm not opposed to that, but as I read and reread the above, it looks far more like an intimidate check than a diplomacy check to me. On top of which I'm guessing their delaying tactic here has a patron who will protect them . . .. Now, whether the "rest" of that group is confident of said protection or not could play to our advantage.

Seeing Tam the dwarf, Ming quickly takes a step aside, not wanting to get into more trouble with him, upsetting the other rigger even more.

What's this about? Is there a problem? We're kind of in a hurry, you heard the lady! she speaks up from behind and then tries to pass through.

Also there's really no need to insult any of the other ladies or darlin anyone. I'm pretty sure they are all nice ladies at heart!

Actually Tam here is one of the best riggers i ever met, just learned that yesterday! Amazing work he does, got nothing but respect for him! I'm looking forward to drink some rum with you and hear of your stories! Maybe i can even dance a bit...

Joran's words cause several fists to ball up, and the unhinged woman smiles wider. The working girl sneers at Destinie. "Pretty sure I could take three o' you girls on by myself, so I'm none too worried bout your numbers."

The creepy woman turned to Katara. "Oh but that's not what the Captain said, now was it? I seem to recall him saying we couldn't kill anyone...which is a pity, but there are plenty of fun things you can do to someone without killing them..." she giggled, a high pitched, throaty, staccato sound.

Tam looked at Ming disbelievingly. "Daft apeth," he muttered. He looked up at the bald man. "Tell the swamp donkey to sack it before I give her a tonk in the tradesman's entrance and have her lick me yarbles!!!"

The leader grinned and looked at Ming, pointing a thumb at Tam. "He says he don't like you."

When Terry spoke, the bald man responded. "Oh no, we might be late. That would be terrible," he said with a sarcastic drawl. "Course, seein' as the boss was the one tellin' us to welcome you aboard, somehow I think we'll be just fine." They loomed forward and it became clear this was going to turn into either a beating, or a fight.

I run combat in blocks. You can post in any order when YOUR block is up. If you don’t post within 24 hours of your block beginning, I bump you down to the next friendly block, unless you’ve asked to be botted ahead of time. If you don’t post by the end of THAT block I bot ya. I clump enemies into a few groups to save from having a million blocks with a group this big. Here is a refresher on fighting without a weapon. Remember you don’t have your armor, and several of them do. Check the map on Roll20. Assume the hammocks are not in the way as they can be unhooked during the day. The masts and stairs are obstacles, however.

Atia heaves an annoyed sigh at this entire thing. Her head is pounding from hangover and poor sleep, and now some senior crew were peacocking, trying to prove that they were the biggest, baddest pirates on the boat. Learning the social rituals was exhausting.

Well, the good news is that we're going first. The bad news is that we're not armed . . ..

Trusting that the big man's ego will keep him facing Baldy, Terry steps back to try to keep the opposition from surrounding anyone, moving to take a shot at the half-orc.

As he moves towards his target, Terry pretends to throw a jab, but quickly brings his foot up, looking to kick the man below the belt. Terry does manage to kick him, but he misses his target, and catches the inside of the half-orc's right thigh instead.

Edit: Heh. Same tactic! If she moved up, though, then Terry would have had to go to where she is on the map, right? Not a harsh change by any means. Positions adjusted.

The giggling turns into a high pitched shriek as the crazy lady swipes back at Randall, trying to slice him with her fingernails, which she's sharpened to points.

Psycho: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

But he jukes away from the attack.

The over the hill working girl goes for a hair pull on Katara.

Atia yelps at a pitch that could rupture eardrums as she's punched--she hadn't ever come close to experiencing this kind of pain. Her ears are ringing and she's relatively certain they'll ever stop.

She goes blind with rage and lashes out at Tam with an open palm, swinging with all the might her twiggy arms can muster.

Atia will glare at Tam, memorizing his face, and bolt up the stairs and as far towards the galley as she's able.

Bumping Seadreamer and Randall to the next combat block, PMed the latter for an update and haven't heard back yet. Moving him back a step so Katara can get into melee on her turn.

Terry's punch misses, but little Atia smacks Tam silly momentarily and makes a run for it, escaping the brawl for the moment and making her way towards the kitchen.

The crazed woman smiles as she approaches Katara. "Before I kill you, I'm going to make you squeal like a pig...

"No killing, Syl! You heard the Captain!" baldy called out.

She pouted in an exaggerated fashion, pushing out her lower lip. "None of you are any fun." She backhanded Katara, smacking her across the face, which restored her good mood and unnerving giggle.

Tam growls and looks at the fleeing form of Atia, but knows she's not their primary target in this fight. He seeks a weak point in the line of new crew members, and attempts to break through by barreling through Destinie.

"When you attempt to overrun a target, it can choose to avoid you, allowing you to pass through its square without requiring an attack. " Des, would you let him pass, or attempt to stop him? If you try to stop him, a high enough roll could knock you prone.

Joran, Cass, Ming, Katara, and Des are up! As are Randall and Seadreamer.

Des holds the line... or at least attempts to. Note that her CHA bonus to DEX doesn't apply to CMB/CMD. To my chagrin. 9 CMD to beat.

While the spectacle of her eyes and voice did look intimidating, it didn't do much to enhance her combat skills. Thus the trollop was able to grab and squeeze the life out of her.

But it did come with some form of awareness. Thus she was prepared when the dwarf tried to get past her. She shifted her weight so that the dwarf would be blocked by his partner in crime.

And with that done, she focused on taking on the older woman.

This time around, her jab did not connect.

All Wwile she was oblivious to the others' plans, but she had a fair idea on their plan.

GM, just to double check, is all damage that Katara took so far lethal? Or are they just punching her/doing nonlethal damage?

Hurt, Katara seems to be absurdly holding herself to avoid doing something stupid that she may repent later. Yet, her fists look full of water - not sweaty, but if as someone had both her hands inside jellyfishes. She grins, trying to simply shove the other woman out of the way.

Katara five-foot-steps towards Randall. Again, she gathers power - water bags seem to form out of everywhere, some of it from air itself, in a very loud windy cyclone of sorts around the kineticist. This time she doesn't very much speak anything, but her eyes look almost blueish from all the water accumulating there, and the hair moves around in bags of water as if it had life itself...

... And this time she doesn't release the tension - she keeps very much gathering more, the "water witch" is too young and rash to hold any longer on hitting back after being hit once again.

Joran's fist connected with Baldy's face and the lights in the man blinked out. He fell to the ground, unconscious. Seeing the leader of their little rabble go down visibly shook several of the other bullies, all but Tam and Syl. Tam had his orders from above, and Syl just liked hurting people.

Seadreamer rammed his head into the Rahadoumi's midsection, knocking the wind from him briefly as he tried to hold the dwarf at bay.

Katara, everything has been nonlethal this far.

Cass, hearing Des's words, makes a break for it, following after Atia. She runs the long way around the stairs, lingering at the top of them in case the others need help. She doesn't intend to leave new allies behind.

Randall tries to trip the crazy woman and make it easier for others to escape.

She's too nimble for him, unfortunately. He hangs back where he is in order to help other folks get away.

With Terry still recovering from the beating they'd administered, the half orc loses interest. How drunk is Kroop today?: 1d100 ⇒ 27

Atia finds herself speaking to an empty kitchen. The door to the quartermaster's store opens and Grok pokes her face into the galley. "Fishguts drank himself stupid last night. Looks like you're cooking on your own today, I couldn't get him to wake up. He's snoring, so he's not dead. What's this about getting punched in the -- ooh, got into a fight, eh? Good for you, wasn't sure you had it in you."

-------------------

Terry and Seadreamer begin to withdraw from the melee. Less than half a minute had passed -- if they got on deck quickly, they might not be noticed as late. Sandara's head poked down from the second set of stairs, the ones leading from the middle hold to the main deck. "What's going on?" she inquired of Terry and Cass, though her words trailed off quietly as she saw Terry's eye swollen shut, blood trickling from his split lip. "Where are the others?" she said more quietly.

The retired working girl was shocked to see the bald man knocked out cold, and she suddenly decided she wanted nothing to do with this anymore. "Hell with this. I ain't getting the whip." She shoved past Tam and bolted up to the deck, passing by Terry, Cass, and Sandara, whose eyes went wide as she tried to piece together events.

"Where do you think you're going? I'm not finished playing with you yet." Syl moved around to head off Destinie's escape, blocking the doorway with Tam. She smiled widely and screeched as she clawed at the oracle.

Thinking his swing was a bit off, Joran breathed an internal sigh of relief when baldy managed to dodge the wrong way, taking full force of the barbarian's punch. It looked like the others had gotten the hint for the time being. Cass made her way out as well as Terry. And with their leader out cold, that was apparently enough to scare off the others. Now all she had to do was...

Her face was met with nails towards the cheek as her new assailant before she could react. She stepped back and placed a hand to her eye if only to keep it from watering. And for the first time, there was a hint of fear in her face.

But she wasn't afraid to lash out in retaliation against the mad woman.

Trip: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Regardless of whether or not she was able to lift the woman's feet off of her, she signaled Joran over with a wave as she climbed to the top of the stairs.

By the time she was halfway through the stairs, her eyes dulled back to normal and the adrenaline winded down. But with that went the steadiness of her legs, being blinded didn't help either. She used the wall to get the rest of the way to the top. Thankfully it seemed temporary as she could still see. Cass seemed fine, but it was only now that she realized how close Terry was to blacking out. Des looked better off but not by much: others could see redness on her throat where she was throttled as well as three nail scratches on her cheek that were drawing blood.

When Sandara called out, she answered with a cough while panting. "Some crew members ambushed us... we fought them off... some of us are still down there... we're a bit banged up too."

Unfortunately I used my standard action on the trip, which I doubt worked. I won't be able to heal until the next round.
