Lord Unmar hurries over to stand behind Humble as the assassins seem to ignore the Kalistocrat. Humble restores a great deal of Hida's vigor and most of the wounds heal pristinely.
Kioko strikes at the most injured of the ankou. The shifting shadows around the fey trick her, and her katana feels no resistance as it slices through tendrils of darkness (miss). The Ruby Phoenix fan strikes true and deep, however (crit). Despite the internal flames shining through the ankou's mouth and ribs, it has no protection from the phoenix flames that begin to burn away the shadowy flesh. The fey shrieks telepathically through everyone's minds. She slices with the fan again, drawing more fey blood and, finally, the assassin's attention.
Meanwhile, Kyrie has run to General Hida's defense. Her first strike lands solidly and clearly hurt (hit), but the shadow fey continues to focus on its prey.
Shadows rip away from the burning ankou to surround Kioko. Three more ankou rise up from the shadows and pounce upon the tengu warrior. Kioko twists, ducks, spins, and raises her sword in desperate parries. For her effort, she only suffers two--albeit savagely deep--wounds front the onslaught.
General Hida scrambles to join Lord Unmar in hiding behind Humble. "I tried to--," he begins to say to the merchant lord.
"I know," Unmar interrupts.

The situation becomes even more tense as Rakka's arrow flies wide of his target, dragging the spectral claws away with it.
Charging toward Humble, the other ankou remains fixed on its prey. The fey of shadow, iron, and flame makes as if to slash at the cleric, but it is a feint and reaches past for General Hida. Fortunately, its claws are tangles in the overhanging branch of the ginkgo tree.
Lord Unmar moves over and takes cover behind the trunk.

Kyrie-bot trusts Kioko to care for herself and charges to protect the civilians. She slams her shield at the ankou. Her first swing is too short, but the second one strikes with a satisfying thunk. She uses the rebounding force to raise her shield into a defensive position.
On the other side of the cliff, the badly wounded ankou concentrates while it burns. The three shadow clones tear at the tengu within the obscuring shadows. Despite what should have been a fatal onslaught, Kioko's flesh is only torn twice. Battered as she may be, she still has plenty of fight left in her.

Hida thinks for a moment before answering. "Not that I would expect. My engagements have all been of the mortal variety. I suppose someone could have contracted with such a power, but that seems less than likely."
The coins are tarnished silver. They are essentially identical, bearing a pagoda tower on both side and with a square perforation in the center.

"What?" Lord Unmar says when he notices Humble eyeing him. "Truth! I'm a merchant. We settle our differences by driving our enemies out of business." He chuckles nervously.

Lord Unmar and General Kaso escort you--or you escort them--back along the path. The guards each brought are standing vigilant where they were left. Clearly, the ankou were stealthy and clever enough to bypass the guards' notice.

The Neverending Market of Goka is renowned for its busy, crowded streets and the ability to find anything in Golarion with enough effort. On your way there, as you turn down a less busy street, a strikingly attractive Tian-Shu woman and two cloaked figures move toward you.
"Good day, contenders," the woman asks with a smile. "Pause a moment to speak with me."
Kioko and Rakka note that the only weapons between the three are one dagger on the belts of each of the two cloaked figures.

The woman smiles and surreptitiously brushes the edge of her robe with two fingers, briefly revealing a metal pin underneath. Humble immediately recognizes the symbol on the pin as belonging to the Golden League (see spoiler below). It takes Rakka and Kyrie a few moments longer to remember it.
"My name is Kas Xi Rai, an enthusiast of the Ruby Phoenix Tournament," she says with a pleasant smile (artwork does not match written descriptions). "What do you think of the competition?"
Originally founded in Minkai in Tian Xia, the Golden League is an organization dedicated to manipulating markets, both legitimate and otherwise, in order to obtain wealth and power for themselves.
The Golden League now consists of dozens of powerful families in Goka, although they hold influence in every city in Tian Xia. Each family keeps a group of tattooed warriors at their disposal. These soldiers and assassins are known as the Xun. Locals rightfully fear and respect these warriors, granting them deference upon seeing them.
