Toral again tries to slumber hex the creature with blue clothing.
Using accursed hex feat to try again: DC 22 Will save or asleep 8 rounds.
”Ok, you can coup de grace but do not simply attack a hag if it’s sleeping!!“

Philthy gives her a mocking dirty look of his own.
Too bad about all that half damage, but that is a lot of 20!

Philthy chops into the hag. Wow! 3 roles and 3 '20's. The dice bot loves you.
Toral uses a hexing trick he picked up somewhere to hex after the hag again.
hex save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
The hag lulls to sleeps and settles down on the passage floor.
Laiashi feels her strength sap away as she looks at the creature.

![]() |

fort save fishing for 20's: 1d20 ⇒ 17
The blue hag dies. Philthy and the rest head out of the water maze and immerge back in the narrow corridor leading back to the altar of weight.
There appears to be only the Northest passage that ends in a barriar of blades. There are two panels, one each, on the east and west walls. I will repost the writing for each shortly. Please arrange yourselfs as you wish in that hallway.

![]() |

The short corridor takes a turn, revealing a wall of whirling blades that blocks your path. Built into the wall on the both sides of the corridor are small stone tablets made from marble, each bearing an inscription.
Eastern panel reads in Ancient Osiriani, "The first and worst"
Western panel reads in Ancient Osiriani, "The last of my hopes"

![]() |

"Let the first rest forever in a dark abyss. Let none speak her name" Irian
"For Iltorian, the blessed second who taught me faith in the gods, but reliance only in oneself."
"For Shasha, my third wife, who taught me to always seek the best in life."
"For Elea, my delicate desert flower. May the fourth rest forever at my side."
"For Kiranna, my right hand, my fifth, the one who brought order."
"For my beloved Osomi, the last love of my long life"
***
Are there slots for the sceptres or something? It's obviously Irian and Osomi

![]() |

Toral takes the Irian and touches the wall.
Like a wall of force effect that can be disrupted?

![]() |

Toral, as you lower the rods closer to the wall of blades, it does not seem to be slowing or fading. Please give me an intelligence check.
Toral estimates the rods will be torn to spreads in the wall, if he is wrong. This option should be a last resort after trying several other things.
Detect magic for a hint. Once you do this, both marble panels glow with abjuration and the wall glows intensely with evocation.

![]() |

Int 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Philthy detects magic.
Use the wands to touch the inscriptions, 1 then 6, 6 then 1, simultaneously...then if that doesnt work, try all that again whilst saying the name of the wand (though I think bad things probably happen if we use the name of the first one!

![]() |

When Philthy and Toral work out the simultaneous touch of both marble panels, one with the rod from the watery area and Osomi's rod to the western panel, the barrier is dispelled.
Another set of marble panels and another barrier are 10' or so ahead.
The inscriptions are: Eastern. "The right hand". Western, "The bringer of faith."
Just let me know which rods you want to use.

![]() |

"For Iltorian, the blessed second who taught me faith in the gods, but reliance only in oneself."
"For Kiranna, my right hand, my fifth, the one who brought order."
Philty repeats the process with the next set of wands.

![]() |

Yep, with the simultaneous taps of the above rods, the last barrier is dispelled. The corridor ahead ends at a door leading North.
perception: 5d20 ⇒ (20, 2, 10, 19, 19) = 70
A quick check of the door reveals no traps. It appears to be safe to proceed. The group opens the door. Assuming this is not a problem.
The door slowly swings open to reveal a large chamber made mostly from the same sandstone that dominates this place. A strip of black marble runs from an altar on the east end of the room, through the floor, to a throne that sits on the west end of the chamber.
Looking at the black stone throne more closely, a scepter rests on the arm of the throne. This scepter is made of simple sandstone and appears older than all the rest. On the throne in Ancient Osiriani is written, "The throne of the Merchant Prince-those who would seek audience must sit and judge the worth of all things."
The Eastern altar is made of black stone similar to the strip running through the floor and the throne. Atop the altar are seven depressions,
each one large enough to fit any of the rods. On the left side of the altar, just outside the row of depressions, is a pierce of quartz, embedded in the stone. On the right side, opposite the quartz, is a beautiful diamond.
There is something strange between the rods and the Eastern altar. A strong magical repulsion effect. This effect will not let any of the rods be moved closer than 10 feet from the altar.

![]() |

”So I assume that we have to measure the worth of the scepters! Let’s see … “ Toral says.
Is there any in game roll/way to assess the worth of the last scepter in relation to the others? Or the get a worth ranking?

Shifty |

Lemme guess the 'gotcha' is that the sandstone is a rare gift from the Dawnflower herself and worth a million GP or something :p
OK lets take our time and check for traps, and detect magic, etc
Obviously the quartz and the diamond indicates the direction the value should go from lowest to highest

![]() |

Yep, an appraise check can be used to determine the approximate value of the rods.
Toral studies the rods.
appraise 1-7: 7d20 ⇒ (14, 7, 5, 17, 6, 12, 1) = 62
Toral using his judgement of these items and comes up with values of the rods
Sandstone = 525g
iltorian = 2400g
Osomi = 5550g
kiranna = 3500g
shasha = 2900g
elea = 595g
Unnamed = 170g

"The Fox makes an important point, when we lay down these wands we might find all sorts of terrible things may occur - we might have half a dozen angry undead wives want to come have a chat including the king himself - we can only hope they fight each other rather than us, but hopes aren't always met"
We might want to buff before slotting staves :)

![]() |

Toral nods at Laiashi and walks to the throne and sits down to see if anything happens.
"Good idea!"

![]() |

Toral at Laiashi's suggestion discovers that the repulsion effect goes away when someone sits on the throne.
apraise Philthy: 7d20 ⇒ (5, 1, 8, 4, 4, 13, 8) = 43
Philthy's appraisals are as follows
Sandstone = 475g
iltorian = 4600g
Osomi = 3700g
kiranna = 3500g
shasha = 2000g
elea = 700g
Unnamed = 100g
What do you want to do?

Tiny fox |

Fox will have requested Philthy for activating the wand of mage armor.
When Toral is about to sit down, fox sniffs the air for any odd scents, as the last obstacle they found, hid a bunch of bad humans behind it.

![]() |

Philty lines up all but one of the rods in the order we have appraised. Moments before placing the last and final (most expensive) rod into place,
UMD 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 Veil of Positive Energy (self)
UMD 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 (Pass)
UMD 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 Bless (Party)
UMD 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
UMD 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 (Pass)
CAST HASTE (Party)
Then places the final rod.

![]() |

Walla moves to the east side of the room and stands guard. Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

![]() |

As Philthy approaches within 10' of the altar, his danger sense goes off. Doing a quick look he realizes the altar, possibly all the black strip of stone bisecting the room, and the throne are all connected as one large trap. This trap seems be connected to the depressions for the scepters for its trigger.
That being determined, do you all still want to do all the preparations and the rod arrangement? And to be clear you are using Philthy's appraisal without adjustments? So Unnammed, Alkhet's, Elea, Shasha, Kiranna, Osomi, Iltorian, placed in order from the crystal to the diamond?

![]() |

This is brutal and I am sorry.
Black and purple lightning erupts from the path, throne and altar encompassing all adjacent squares. The lightning is very intense shooting 6 feet into the air. The lightning threatens Philthy and fully engulfs Toral as he sits on the throne.
electrical energy damage: 12d8 ⇒ (7, 8, 2, 7, 4, 7, 4, 7, 5, 7, 6, 5) = 69
Toral takes the full effect no save.
Philthy, take full effect or DC24 reflex save for none with your evasion.
Philthy, I assume Bully, your familiar, is out of the blast area as you spotted the potential danger.
The electricity dies away and the scepters are now all thrown back 10'.

Toral suddenly shouts out in pain.
"Arghhhh.... " he says and immediately stands up.
His skin is shriveled and burnt in some areas.
He immediately takes out his wand.

"Okay!!! Something is wrong!" the dwarf shouts and he seems a little agitated but starts thinking.
"Okay, I looked through all the information again in my head and I think the only two reasons are that we got the appraisal wrong and / or the merchant scepter has to first because the arrogant prick believes he is the most important one in any situation! Would not be the first time that people overstate their importance." the empathic dwarf says.

![]() |

Yeah Bully is away doing other stuff - Philty is always ok with taking chances, but he cares about his friend :p
Ouch that is a rough DC
Ref 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

"Thats a good consideration Toral, the arrogant fool probably did see it that way"
*Is it possible to disable the trap?
*If not, will attempt Torals suggestion

![]() |

You can try anything... But if you fail by 5 or more it could really hurt. Remembering the doors with the Merchant Prince held above the Sun and all the images of him larger than everyone around, you can bet there is something to Toral's theory. It is up to you. The person in the throne chair does not get a save.
After seven minutes or so and several charges of wands, the smell of ozone and fried meat is still in the air.
If you are trying the disable traps route, please roll.
If you are trying Toral's theory, who is sitting in judgement on the throne and who is placing the scepters.
Please place yourselves where you want to be when the scepters are placed into the altar.

![]() |

Toral grits his teeth and sits down in the throne again.
“This better work!“ he says agitated.

Tiny fox |

Fox's nose is particularly sensitive to these strong odors, and its facial expression looks sort of troubled.

Assuming we don't blow up
Philthy gets Toral back in the throne, then lays out the rods per Torals suggestion.

Philthy thinks he has marked out a ruin that activated the electrical energy. He then arranges the scepters, unnamed, Elea, Shasha, Kiranna, Osomi, Iltorian, and sandstone. Once the seven scepters are in place, the throne sinks into the floor, and the wall behind it shifts to reveal a corridor leading to the West and down a set of stairs into a chamber. The chamber do to the angle of descent can't fully be seen. The passage air is cool and carries a slight sent of myrrh and decay.

Well, I had my post all set and forgot to send it. Well, so much for all that then. Moving forward...
As the group assembles to enter the revealed passage, Toral can make out the sound of stone sliding on stone and several low thuds, like a stone falling.
The chamber beyond, at least what you can see of it, has a large sarcophagus lined with glimmering gold that is set on a small dais against the Eastern wall.
The group starts into the cool descending passage. Walla leading the way stiffens, "There is something ahead."
