Slash 916
|
Slash springs in and tries to end Green.
+1 human bane-bane impervious mithral Great Axe va flat footed Green}: 1d20 + 19 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 19 + 2 = 301d12 + 17 + 6d6 ⇒ (6) + 17 + (5, 5, 1, 3, 5, 1) = 43 If that hits the enemy looses 2 strength, gets Bleed 6 and takes -2 to hit and to AC for a round, -6 VS Slash.
Arcturus of Shelyn
|
"Very good work indeed."
Arcturus moves to check on Slash's & Ranalus' wounds.
"Woah. You two got hit pretty bad. Lemme fix ya up here."
Channel Positive: 7d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 3, 3, 3, 5, 1) = 24 hp healed.
Looks like you two took about 30 hp damage each. Hopefully, that channel is good enough and you can top off with a wand of clw.
Ranalus
|
Ranalus looks at Arcturus in disbelief.
"Pretty bad? These are scratches."
Ranalus took 15 damage out of his 129 HP, so not much at all. He has DR 10/Cold Iron.
Has he brought barbarians back from death's door before their rage wears off? Has he seen wizards, thinking they were safe in the back rank, shredded by arrows?
He shakes his head and accepts the healing.
He thinks these are serious wounds...
Really, what this character has going for him is a diverse array of utility spells and SLAs, plus his defenses - good saves, decent AC, and that incredible DR. That's why I was fine going in unbuffed and using very basic offensive options. Wasn't particularly concerned that he was in danger.
Slash 916

My thanks Arcturus to both you and Shelyn. Slash says with a reverent bow. I was tagged once but I think I gave better that I received. I am pleased with my additional training and focus on the martial side that allows me to strike at more than one unprepared foe. Though such focus had limited the growth of other skills. Life is a series of trade-offs, no?
| GM Redelia |
Assuming you explore the hallway carefully, including using door sight, you find the room that is up from the hallway contains several silos for collecting ore, but nothing else.
The room that is down from the hallway looks like the ogrekin sleep there, but is guarded right now by several aurumvoraxes. The room to the left appears empty, but is clearly the bottom floor to a tower and has stairs that go up.
Arcturus of Shelyn
|
Where does the staircase go that Arush is standing on? If it goes down, I would like to suggest we take the stairwell in the tower to the left first. Maybe we should defeat those arumvorax things first and loot that room before anything else.

funnily enough, that staircase isn't identified as going anywhere in the text of the adventure... Looking at the map, that staircase also goes up. From the outside of the structure which you saw before you entered, you think it's probably the same general place, but not the same room, as the staircase in the tower at the other end of the building.
Ranalus
|
"Let's go deal with this room. I doubt that a couple of Aurumvoraxes will be a challenge for us. Everybody ready?"
Arcturus of Shelyn
|
"Maybe instead of killing the creatures, we can set up a way to let them escape into the wild. Let's open all the doors leading out, then open the door to the room they're in and we block the hallway with us behind the door. Maybe a little meat just outside the main door will coax them out."
"A flashy fire spell if they try to get at us might scare them off, too."
Just trying to come up with a creative solution to get them out.
Arcturus of Shelyn
|
Waiting to hear what we know about the creatures.
Someone needs to make a knowledge roll. Which knowledge that is, I have no idea.
| GM Redelia |
With a roll like that, Rogar (and everyone else) can just read the entire statblock... :)
Arcturus of Shelyn
|
Arcturus looks at Rogar in astonishment as the dwarf rambles off everything he knows about the aurumvoraxes.
"Wow, Rogar. You sure do know a lot about those creatures. Did you have one as a pet when you were young?"
Arush Al-Fasi
|
Acturus, I like your idea of releasing these creatures into the wild. I don't want to offend animals when it can be avoided, even if they are magical animals. Perhaps they could have been lured out by some kind of illusion? Some... Fleeing meat... Arush leaves her teammates to think about it, and she goes to open all the doors so that the creatures can get out into the wild.
Arcturus of Shelyn
|
"That's a great idea, Arush. If you can create an illusion with smell, then maybe a hundred pound flying side of beef should do the trick!"
Arcturus chuckles at the thought of a giant, raw rack of beef ribs with wings flying out the door.
"It sounds crazy, but it just might work!"
| GM Redelia |
Putting your heads together, you do indeed manage to draw the creatures out.
A careful search of the room after the creatures leave revels the ogrekins' treasure stash (valuable but useless and not flavorful stuff).
The room across the hall also containns only unonteresting valuables.
Which staircase up do you want? The room your tokens are in, or the tower?
Ranalus
|
Ranalus pokes through the ogrekins' items lazily. Then he is ready to move on.
Going up the stairs from the room we are currently in is fine with me. As a note, Ranalus can use Door Sight 10 times per day, so not unlimited; I think he has used it 3 times so far. He will be judicious going forwards; listening at doors (Perception +36) and using Door Sight if he hears anything.
Arcturus of Shelyn
|
"Up the stairs! Onward, gentlemen!"
Arcturus laughs as he fancies himself a military commander. He points his glaive forward and marches up the steps.
| GM Redelia |
Going up the stairs, you find yourselves in a room where the tops of the ore silos below can be seen. A giant scorpion nests in the room, and immediately moves towards you threateningly.
Ranalus: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Arcturus: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Slash: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Arush: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Rogar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
scorpion: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
bold may post:
round 1:
Ranalus
Arush
Slash
Arcturus
scorpion
Rogar
Arcturus of Shelyn

Arcturus ceases his laughter and comes to a dead stop at the top of the steps when he notices the giant scorpion.
"Ohhh, great." he bemoans sarcastically.
"I left all of my delay and neutralize poison scrolls in my dorm at the Grand Lodge."
"Let's squish this bug!"
Feeling rather brave (and possibly a bit stupid), Arcturus forgoes casting any protective spells. He steps forward and swings his glaive wildly with all of his might.
Full Attack, Power Attack, Furious Focus:
+3 corrosive glaive: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21
slashing: 1d10 + 17 ⇒ (6) + 17 = 23
acid: 1d6 ⇒ 2
+3 corrosive glaive: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
slashing: 1d10 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27
acid: 1d6 ⇒ 6
And swing badly, too.

+1 Seeking Merciful Composite Longbow | Deadly Aim: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 171d8 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 10 + (1) = 14
+1 Seeking Merciful Composite Longbow | Deadly Aim: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 141d8 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 10 + (4) = 22
+1 Seeking Merciful Composite Longbow | Deadly Aim: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 161d8 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 10 + (6) = 22
"Where does the scorpion come from?", Arush thinks lazily and cannot pierce the shell of this creature with an arrow in any way.
Slash 916
|
Bet that thing has reach. Slash says as he springs in fling and attacks it before spring back, hopefully out of its reach.
Melee +1 adamantine greataxe: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 221d12 + 17 + 6d6 ⇒ (8) + 17 + (2, 4, 3, 3, 3, 6) = 46
Hmm - none of us rolled all that well this round. If that hits the scorp can have bleed 6, -2 strength damage, and -2 to both hit and AC for a round (-6 to hit and against Slash)
Arcturus of Shelyn
|
Arcturus shudders as a deathly cold chill runs up his spine.
"This room must be cursed with bad luck. I can feel it. Ugh."
Yikes! What's up with our attack rolls?
Ranalus
|
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Ranalus rather doubts that a mere scorpion is worth expending spell slots on.
He waits to see the result of his allies' attacks. If Slash missed, then Ranalus will step up and send the scorpion to Hell.
Plane Shift Touch Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Will DC 22 Negates, but NOT mind-affecting so vermin are not immune.
If Slash hit, then Ranalus will just hang out where he is and do Total Defense.
| GM Redelia |
Slash manages to hurt the scorpion because it was not ready for you. Arcturus manages to hurt it with his first swipe. Arush's arrows all miss.
status: scorpion -71 HP
Ranalus, seeing that the creature is very badly hurt, holds back for now.
botting Rogar:
Rogar casts magic missile.
5d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 4, 2) + 5 = 22
The scorpion falls over, dead.
Arush Al-Fasi
|
Arush puts an arrow on the string and waits for Ranalus to use his priestly powers to look through the door.
If not, well, let's go the usual way.
Slash 916
|
Slash vanishes again using his ring and moves to his side of the door to be ready to attack if necessary.
| GM Redelia |
The ceiling droops considerably in this weathered living chamber. The floor is covered in a layer of unnatural moss that creeps up the cobblestone walls to the west and south. A batter bed occupies the northwestern corner of the chamber. The patterns of dust on the floor show that much of the furniture here was recently removed. A single wooden door stands in the south wall.
Standing in the room is a sabosan. (you may look them up in a bestiary or the internet)
Ranalus
|
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
"Some sort of bat-like humanoid."
Ranalus describes it as best as he can in hopes that the others can identify it.
"We can try a peaceful approach if you wish, Arcturus. I do not know what language they speak. A Tongues spell would be helpful but I do not have it prepared."
Arcturus of Shelyn
|
"I'll give it a try, Ranalus. This creature looks familiar from my time spent training as a foot soldier for battle at the Worldwound."
"Greetings.”
Arcturus says in a friendly tone in Taldane and then in Abyssal.
"We mean no harm. We're looking for some of our colleagues that disappeared in these mines." He then repeats in Abyssal.
Slash 916

I believe this is a knowledge local check for monstrous humanoid. I will roll for Slash for when he sees the creature. but to little avail... :(

Arush lowers the bow and removes the arrow from the string. Greetings to you. We don't want to hurt you. Just travelers who are exploring this place and looking for their missing friends as well for one criminal, which you clearly are not. She obviously means that corrupt minister, it seems to find out who it is and find evidence becomes a fix idea for her. We won't hurt you if you don't attack us first. I am Arush. And you? What's your name, what are you doing here? Her voice sounds calm, reasonable and firm. She does not fawn over this creature, feeling her strength and the importance of her mission, but also does not wish him harm.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (20) + 24 = 44
Arcturus of Shelyn
|
Arcturus leans over to whisper to the others,
"It's hard to believe Arush is a tiefling, with such an angelic voice like that."
Arush Al-Fasi
|
Arush politely introduces his comrades, after which he carefully clarifies by whom he was hired and what is included in his duties.
