Starfinder: On Blade's Edge (Inactive)

As the title states, I'm interested in running a PBP campaign set in the traditional Pact Worlds setting leading into the upcoming Drift Crisis hooks. I'd likely pull inspiration from some of the adventure paths and scenarios, but the overarching narrative I'm thinking of would be homebrew. My aim is to tailor the direction of the story based on what everyone is wanting to do. And in terms of sourcebooks, anything first party is on the table.

I would love to play via voice, but due to my work schedule a couple posts a day is typically all I have time for.

If interested, please reply with the following:

-Name
-Experience with Starfinder/TTRPGs
-The type of themes you usually enjoy in a campaign (horror, intrigue, lots of action)
-Your favorite aspect of TTRPGs (RP, combat, exploration, a balance of all)
-And lastly, a general idea of the type of character you'd like to play.

Hello, Cul! My username is GM_3826. It's a legacy username that I thought sounded cool, once. I'm not sure if my PFS information is publically visible, but if it's not you can call me Gale. I have several years of experience with TTRPGs, but my experience with Starfinder is limited to a couple of sessions due to some complications surrounding organized play in my area and online. I am quite familiar with Pathfinder 2e, which has a similar ruleset, so it may simply be a matter of adjusting. I enjoy character-driven storylines with a mix of action and roleplaying. As for the type of character I'd like to play in a Starfinder campaign, out of the core races and classes a lashunta technomancer with a doctorate in physics and a polite attitude or a rough and tumble ysoki operative and escaped convict are both very intriguing. If you'll have me, I'll love to play. One thing I'm curious about-what's the posting frequency you anticipate?

Glad to hear from you! And great question, I'm looking at a minimum of 1 per day because life happens, but I would also like it to move more quickly than that when possible. I currently have recruitment threads opened in several different places, but I'll make public announcements in each with once our party is together. Thank you for your application and you'll hear back from me in the near future.

Hi Cul. This sounds interesting.

Name: Dennis

Experience with Starfinder/TTRPGs
I've been playing and GMing Pathfinder since 2009. I've never played Starfinder, but I have played around with creating characters to get a feel for the mechanics. I don't think it would be a steep learning curve for me.

The type of themes you usually enjoy in a campaign (horror, intrigue, lots of action)
I love horror. Anything else is gravy.

Your favorite aspect of TTRPGs (RP, combat, exploration, a balance of all)
I do enjoy exploration and combat the most, but RP is fun too.

And lastly, a general idea of the type of character you'd like to play.
Probably a spellcaster of some sort.

Thanks for your consideration.

Dotting for interest! Will write out my answers to the questions after work.

Hey Cul - dotting for interest.

Name: Gary, but have been on these boards since 2007 so my nom du guerre of Black Dow, Dow, BD all work well :)

Experience with Starfinder/TTRPGs: I've played a few SFS play-by-posts periodically on the boards with my Soviet flavoured Vest Mechanic Kultha Cleft-Tail. I also GM'd a homebrewed version of Dead Suns AP as a play-by-post here on the boards as well - the tagline of which was: ΔDVENTURE, INCIDENT & INTRIGUE ΘN ΔBSΔLΘM STΔTIΘN! GΔNG-WΔRFΔRE, CΘRPΘRΔTE CΘNFLICT & ΔNCIENT THREΔTS CΘLLIDE IN THE DEPTHS ΘF PΔCT WΘRLD SPACE.. ΔND BEYΘND…. Like to think I delivered on that hype before the game ended early in Book 2. Have a decent handle on the mechanics, but haven't kept up massively with the acceleration of the game.

Outwith that I've been playing TTRPG's since the early 1980s, and love fantasy, sci-fi and super heroics in equal measure. Been play-by-posting here on the boards as my source of gaming since 2011 and have been lucky to collaborate alongside some incredibly creative folk here.

Themes: Horror and intrigue are always high on the want list for me. Combat is fun... space combat not so much (as a player I don't mind it - as a GM it was a royal pain to run).

Favorite aspect of TTRPGs (RP, combat, exploration, a balance of all): RP definitely. Love riffing off other players in that regard. Combat too, especially teamwork and tactics.

General idea of the type of character you'd like to play: Dunno. Engineers are good value, but I'm pretty flexible. Would love to play an SRO (and adapt their purpose to a Class & Theme)

To add to the final question: Thinking SRO Biohacker (will take Medic Archetype)...

Inspired by these concepts: Med Droid Concept and Medic Droid

Following up with my contribution!

Name: Jacob IRL, but I go by Archpaladin Zousha or some variant of it around the web.

Experience with Starfinder/TTRPGs: I've been doing play-by-posts on the boards for several years now, and it's one of my primary hobbies since IRL tabletop gaming is a scheduling hassle. In terms of Starfinder specifically, I'm currently in 4 different Starfinder campaigns on these very boards (Against the Aeon Throne, Dawn of Flame, Junker's Delight and a campaign linking together various Season 1 SFS scenarios for The Scoured Stars Incident. I was also part of a Dead Suns campaign that just wrapped up after completing the final book. Suffice it to say, Starfinder is one of my all-time favorites!

The type of themes you usually enjoy in a campaign (horror, intrigue, lots of action): Since most of my games have been AP-based apart from a couple of exceptions, I tend to enjoy a balanced set of themes. That said, what REALLY gets me excited is the feeling of getting immersed in the setting, a combination of grand panoramic scenes and small moments that make our characters feel like we're part of the world rather than just self-inserts.

Your favorite aspect of TTRPGs (RP, combat, exploration, a balance of all): RP is definitely my all-time favorite aspect, especially in play-by-post where I can write out my character's thoughts and words and improv skills aren't as necessary. In terms of all other aspects, I tend to favor balance between them as long as we get to RP along the way. If a game becomes little more than a string of tactical encounters it can get boring, and I'm unfortunately a bit dense when it comes to puzzles that take more than a successful skill check to solve.

And lastly, a general idea of the type of character you'd like to play: One I've had rolling around in my head for a little while is a megalonyxa technomancer, unflappable in the face of danger and big enough to hold a grenade launcher like it's a handgun, sounding like he's voiced by Jim Cummings or Steve Blum.

-Name

Moon_Goddess, Moon, or Diana I'll respond to any of them.

-Experience with Starfinder/TTRPGs

I've got around 25 years of experience with various TTRPGs, only Starfinder experience I have is I tried to run Dead Suns with a group that had limited experience in 5e only. It did not go well

-The type of themes you usually enjoy in a campaign (horror, intrigue, lots of action)

Oh I like all sort of themes, but I will admit horror is big on the list

-Your favorite aspect of TTRPGs (RP, combat, exploration, a balance of all)

Definitely all three, but probably a focus on RP

-And lastly, a general idea of the type of character you'd like to play.

I know I'd like to play an Envoy, but don't know what race.

Name Thomas hence "tomtesserae"
Experience with Starfinder/ttrpgs All my Starfinder experience is through pbp. Most of my characters have non-optimized builds; sometimes because I didn't quite understand (or realize) the synergy between feats and class features. For the past few years, all my roleplaying has been on paizo's forums. Though I did start a game on discord a few days ago.
Themes you enjoy (horror, intrigue, etc) Intrigue, survival in harsh environments or after a disaster, action, thriller, horror, even low-conflict slice of life is fun depending on the character.
Favorite aspect of TTRPGs (RP, Combat, exploration, a balance of all) I enjoy a balance, lean towards RP, but mostly I want to improve my writing.
General idea of character you'd like to play. In January I created a nuar mystic who makes sonic mazes and landscapes for the audience to experience. (I've been listening to techno music more in the last three years, but really fell in love with modular synthesis about nine months ago.) I also would have fun playing a vlaka envoy (or mechanic) who is part of a Drift beacon installation crew. Or maybe a scientist studying the Drift on a space station inside the Drift? I do have an idea for a Pathfinder PC (unplayed) that might be fun to create in Starfinder. It'd be an android soldier with the wrathful warrior fighting style. The character I'd make really depends on the theme.

Just wanted to give everyone an update. I'm in the process of narrowing down 6 spots for the party. Between here and the posts I made on several forums, I've had a surprising number of people express interest. I'll be giving it until this coming Sunday, at which time I'll finalize the comp and let everyone know recruiting is done. Keep them coming though, loving the character concepts so far!

Not gonna lie was recently thinking about my sci fi fix. I’ll slide in just before the deadline if that’s allright.

Name Justin in real life, though mythic, mythicman,
are perfectly fine.
Experience with Starfinder/TTRPGs - My experience with TTRPG Is going on 7 or so years now. Starting with pathfinder 1e, and branching out playing D&D5e, P2e, Starfinder, Stars Without Number. I’m moderately familiar with starfinder’s rules, but though I haven’t played aim a game in a bit. I’ve played in a couple PBP games and I’ve seen a couple streams so it shouldn’t be to hard to knock the rust off.
Favored Themes - Some of my favorite themes are intrigue, Striving for freedom, and the occasional horror to remind you that you aren’t invincible. Though I will say intrigue sometimes lends itself to a bit of a slowing of PBP games and can bring them down from what I’ve seen.
Your favorite aspect of TTRPGs - I’m a fan of balanced games, though I’ll say roleplay is most certainly my favorite. Exploration is something I enjoy, as a lore junky however and haven’t had much of a chance to a really scratch the itch.
General Character Idea - I’m thinking of a character fed up with playing by “the rules” as others don’t becoming something or a con artist. I’d be interested in playing a caster since I haven’t had a chance yet but might be something else. As for race There’s so many it will something I’ll have to figure out later.

Hello again everyone! Recruiting for this one is closed and private messages have been sent to those chosen as candidates. I appreciate you all taking the time to post (there were way more interested parties than I thought there would be, it was a tough call).
