@Black Dow: that's really great!

Thankee Kindly! Tried to capture Udo being a "clodhopper with a craft". Put layers of dust on his fingers and apron also - reflecting his trade. Wee subtle tricks I've learned using Heroforge :)

Am happy to do one for the whole crew once the characters are settled.

This is Malinor.

Ok so I am going to start rolling, but I am going to say I don't want to be a human this time :D I rolled Human so I am changing to High Elf and using this alias that I have open.

In order:

Race: 1d100 ⇒ 65 Human..not surprising. So just change to High Elf!

Class: 1d100 ⇒ 16 Wizard. Cool.

WS: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (10, 10) + 30 = 50
BS: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (9, 6) + 30 = 45
S: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 2) + 20 = 23
T: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 9) + 20 = 31
Init: 2d10 + 40 ⇒ (3, 3) + 40 = 46
Ag: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (6, 10) + 30 = 46
Dex: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (9, 4) + 30 = 43
Int: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (5, 10) + 30 = 45
WP: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (2, 5) + 30 = 37
Fe: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 6) + 20 = 27

Well, I can swing my sword assuming I can hold it.

An Elven Wizard - very cool :)

Nice counterbalance to the fighters, tramps and thieves [1] of our human company so far!

[1] Udo is not included in that description (being a gainfully employed artisan of good moral standing lol)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Konrad: "I have dedicated my life to the blade!"
Imrik: "Really? Oh...how sad. I spent a few decades practicing in my spare time. Have you tried magic? It is so much more fulfilling after the first decade or so has gone by."
Konrad: "...at least my hair looks nicer."

All joking aside, got to love how the dice fall and kudos for not putting that nat 20 into intelligence. Also, the funny thing for WFRP is that WS is so much more important than Str when it comes to combat.

WS50 Str23. Roll a 30 to hit. That's +2 SL and +2 Str for 4 damage total.
WS23 Str50. Roll a 30 to hit. That's -1 SL and +5 Str for 4 damage total. If it even landed. It's much better to be weak and skilled than strong and unskilled.

Udo slowly looks at the floor and whistles...

I haven't played with the numbers yet. It is possible they will change before its over. Although I am more tempted to put the twenty into Toughness and maybe live a little longer.

I need to get the book to finish all the build and I will probably do that tomorrow.

@Imrik: Forget the toughness. You have a meaty Pit Fighter and daring Duellist to take the lumps for you.

If/When you fall, our roguish ladies will diligently empty your pockets and Udo will chisel you a nice tombstone :)

1d100 ⇒ 11 Artistic

Weird combo...

Human: Savvy +5 Int

Artistic
Max: Dexterity Bonus Tests: Trade (Artist)
You have a natural talent for art, able to produce precise sketches with nothing but time and appropriate media. This ability has several in-game uses, ranging from creating Wanted Posters to sketching accurate journals, and has spot benefits as determined by the GM. Further to this, add Trade (Artist) to any Career you enter; if it is already in Career, you may instead purchase the Skill for 5 XP fewer per Advance.

Linguistics
Max: Intelligence Bonus Tests: Language (All)
You have a natural affinity for languages. Given a month’s exposure to any Language, you count the associated Language Skill as a Basic Skill with a successful Intelligence Test (which can be attempted once per month).
Note: Linguistics only works for languages used to frequently communicate with others, so does not work with Language (Magick).

Sturdy

You have a brawny physique, or are very used to carrying things. Increase the number of Encumbrance Points you can carry by your Sturdy level x 2.

Son of a Tavern owner of a perpetually failing border town Tavern, he grew up among a hodgepodge of languages. He has passing basic fluency in Wastelander and Bretonian but given time and exposure he picks up words and phrases readily enough. Having broad shoulders even as a boy, his alcoholic father used him as a porter for his guests luggage or moving goods from wagons to storage. Even now he's a dab hand at carrying heavy loads.

He lived in near poverty but with a Talent for charcoal drawings. A talent he rented as a graffiti artist for hire due his ability to draw very recognisable, if not very complementary (generally x-rated) caricatures of the political or mercantile enemies of his patrons. Occassionally he got a coin or two sketching prostitutes for their advertising slate boards outside brothels with chalks.

Like many children living on the edges of poverty with an unhappy family and because he needed back up if his drawings bought down threatened beatings, he joined a street gang. Sadly he turned his strength and familial resentment to ill ends. He became a talented street fighter. His gang was absorbed by another, he then split to a third... and the next thing he knows he's now a brigand. Luckily one without a 'WANTED' poster.

Currently he's laying low on the border. One robbery sorta got outta hand, and his friends Hans, Peotr and Lukas are... well, unaccounted for. They never expected the person in the carriage to fight back... or have guns! He hopes to find out what happened to them and put the gang back together.

Alcoholism plagued his family, his fathers customers and childhood friends. As such he is not a fan of over indulgence. He sticks to small beer or watered wines. Among friends he's friendly enough, enjoying jests, gags and horseplay but he's more a follower than a leader at this point in his life. He has a cruel streak when it comes to his fights, normally leads to him putting in a few more kicks or blows than strictly necessary.

So after looking at my stats almost half are well below average so I am just going to re-roll following the steps. So no bonus exp for me.

The character is mostly built and in the Profile for you to view.

I have Parchment: 1d10 ⇒ 3 and Brass Pennies: 6d10 ⇒ (5, 2, 5, 10, 8, 8) = 38.

Gotta come up with some goals and what direct this 16 year old wants to move in.

Is it possible the party thief/bawd (ex lady of negotiatable virtue), Brunhilde, and I crossed paths? Gottfried has worked for brothels sketching their employees.

As for our pit fighting member? Maybe I've won or lost money on him or even fought next to him (helping him against a pissed off gambler and friends) in some alleyway.

@Gottfied: Gambling on the pit-fighter is a great hook. Would imagine that some dens of illicit activity would have a pit-fighting ring as well as ye olde knocking shoppe. Makes sense for you all to have been under the same room at some point.

Although it be just as plausible that you've enroute to the small town we're starting in to lay low (as per your background)?

Oh, I'm lying low, but I'm saying we could have met before. Possibly at a pit fight, possibly I helped you after against a revenge mob for not taking a dive.

Same on the knocking shop angle. Our characters might have crossed paths previously. Perhaps I sketched her.

- Motivation: To go legit. Crime definitely pays. Pay is good. Crime also gets you tortured and hanged... that is if your victim doesn't shoot you in the face with a blunderbuss you didn't know they had!

I'm going to make the failed robbery a "Come to Sigmar" moment. I'll update the background.

Don't know about short or long term goals as yet.

That would make sense and would work for her. She knows a lot of people who are on that side of the law. Just a note that Brunhilde isn't a thief. She doesn't have any pickpocket or breaking and entering skills. She's just good at talking to people.

I have no problem with meeting you at a local pit fight and having a passing meeting with you. Alternately maybe I have made you more money then you have lost and we got to be friends and you decided to follow me around.

Spending 25 XP on the bump for WS, 25 XP for the bump on T and and 20 XP for +2 evaluate

@Branding Opp: Was thinking more that Brunhilde would be good at hooking up those looking for illicit activities with whatever stirs their soup.

"So what's your taste good sir? Girls? Boys? Dwarves? Whomever, or whatever you desire I know somewhere discreet...

Maybe the fights are your thing? Want buckets of blood, sweat and tears? If so come with me...

Or perhaps something to make your troubles go away? Little bit of Black Lotus or Madman's Cap per'haps? Well lucky for you there's a place I know...

Of course patrons who don't give Brunhilde due coin and credit for procurement of these pleasures could well fall victim to the thievery, banditry or strong-arming of our other companions...

DM, are you planning on running a pre-written adventure? If so, please let us know so I don't unintentionally spoil it.

I'm casting about for inspiration here. I've always been bad at this part.

Can anyone suggest some short term goals? I may not take it directly and am likely to twist and turn it but need something to get my gears moving.

@Brand Opp: yes, its a pre written adventure.

Will look at your characters today

Based on your background story that you're laying low and looking to "get out of crime" am wondering if your Short-term Ambitions would literally be keep a low profile and start turning life around?

Perhaps to aid this you'd be using an alias when dealing with anyone you didn't trust? Maybe Gottfried Daimler is your alias?

Just think former bandit whose last job went south might be concerned about Bounty Hunters, Road Wardens etc (would he have a "Wanted Poster" etc). If so Gottfried might be cagey about who he interacts with (officaldom etc)...

Just spitballing ideas :)

How about put some distance between himself and his old life. Needs to Aquire decent clothes and mainstream employment or semi formal association with a non criminal.

We will assume he hasn't felt the need to do a name change as yet... this may well bite him.

Help wanted/needed:

We are near the end of the adventure (fight against the Big Bad Guy coming), but quite a few of our players are gone (4 out of 6)

So we need 2 to 4 new players (locals from the town of Hallt, humans-or a traveler) to join the final fight.

Having some knowledge of Warhammer world would be great, knowing how the game works would be a must.

I can jump in to help. Do you want a modified character creation? Do you want us to know anything about the type of threat?

You can start creating your character, DD.

Do you need help?

No, I just wanted to confirm whether character creation was standard.

Species: 1d100 ⇒ 98 - I did not expect to roll a dwarf. Let's go with it though. +20 xp
Career #1: 1d100 ⇒ 82 - Outlaw +50 xp

Weapon Skill: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (4, 5) + 30 = 39
Ballistic Skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 10) + 20 = 33
Strength: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 5) + 20 = 33
Toughness: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (3, 4) + 30 = 37
Initiative: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (9, 1) + 20 = 30
Agility: 2d10 + 10 ⇒ (6, 7) + 10 = 23
Dexterity: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (3, 10) + 30 = 43
Intelligence: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 5) + 20 = 27
Willpower: 2d10 + 40 ⇒ (7, 2) + 40 = 49
Fellowship: 2d10 + 10 ⇒ (4, 2) + 10 = 16

It's a little chancy but I'll roll again. No xp for this step.

Weapon Skill: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (6, 7) + 30 = 43
Ballistic Skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 8) + 20 = 33
Strength: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (7, 6) + 20 = 33
Toughness: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (1, 3) + 30 = 34
Initiative: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 6) + 20 = 31
Agility: 2d10 + 10 ⇒ (4, 2) + 10 = 16
Dexterity: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (1, 6) + 30 = 37
Intelligence: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (6, 8) + 20 = 34
Willpower: 2d10 + 40 ⇒ (10, 4) + 40 = 54
Fellowship: 2d10 + 10 ⇒ (6, 10) + 10 = 26

The rolls are: 13 / 13 / 13 / 4 / 11 / 6 / 7 / 14 / 14 / 16
Re-rolling paid off well this time. I'll need to rearrange those around. For a dwarf I don't think there's anything else to roll. Will follow up soon.

Is there any campaign xp I'd start with, or is this just a fresh character?

My setting knowledge is not amazing with dwarves, so some of the following is provisional: just my starting ideas.

Thyrik's family worked as gemcrafters, both cutting the precious stones and setting them to finish the works of the accomplished dwarven smiths in the area, creating works of both exceptional workmanship and beauty. Thyrik was still young and only apprenticed with his family, but was proud of his family and their work. Their problems started when his grandfather made a contract with a Reikland company carelessly and lost their family business over the course of a decade. The final legal battle was especially bitter, and Thyrik's refusal to back down in the courthouse landed him a year in jail for contempt.

Prison only increased Thyrik's bitterness and refusal to acknowledge that he was in the wrong. He knows that if he returned to Clan Bryntok after release from prison, they will demand that he take the Slayer Oath for the disgrace of his family and his personal shame. So instead, when released from prison he left home instead. He found himself destitute without work or any clan resources to draw from and eventually took to threatening travellers for their money. So far, he hasn't needed to actually attack anyone: threats have been enough.

I usually go to a fantasy name generation site for Warhammer-specific names, but the dwarf names just looked wrong to me and didn't line up well with the naming conventions in the core book. So I got some inspiration from Total War Dawi general names instead.

Hello everyone,

I never played WFRP, but I am very interested in making it my main gaming system for my home games, and would like to join if there is an opening. I was always fascinated with Warhammer since Age of Reckoning, and the latest Total War games only increased my appetite to the world and system.
Since I noticed there is an opening, I'll just slide my character in.

Race: 1d100 ⇒ 27
Class: 1d100 ⇒ 46
WS: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 6) + 20 = 31
BS: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 2) + 20 = 30
Str: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 9) + 20 = 32
Ini: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (6, 5) + 20 = 31
Agi: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 3) + 20 = 24
Int: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 4) + 20 = 27
Will: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 2) + 20 = 27
Fel: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (4, 5) + 20 = 29

So I'm seeing a human villager (+120 XP since randomizing race, class, and ability scores) with largely average stats, with Doomed, Savvy, and the following talents.
Talents: 1d100 ⇒ 50 Nimble fingered
Talents: 1d100 ⇒ 55 Orientation
Talents: 1d100 ⇒ 63 Read/write

I was thinking a farmer, but with nimble fingers and direction, perhaps a woodsman is more apt. Curiously, he can read and write, so he must also sometimes provide reports for what he sees in the woods to the local village elder or to the bailiff.

Eye color: 2d10 ⇒ (10, 3) = 13 grey eyes
Hair color: 2d10 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 Dark brown hair
Age: 15 + 1d10 ⇒ 15 + (6) = 21 21 years old
Height: 2d10 ⇒ (8, 7) = 15 about 6' tall. What a large boy.

Carrying a: Cloak, Clothing, Dagger, Pouch, Sling Bag containing Rations (1 day)
I allocate 5 advances as follows: 3 to Str, 1 tg, 1 for Agi.
Out of my racial skill list [Animal Care, Charm, Leadership, Cool, Evaluate, Gossip, Haggle, Language (Bretonnian), Language (Wastelander), Lore (Reikland), Melee (Basic), Ranged (Bow)], I have 5 advancements to three, and 3 advancements for another three.
Major: Animal care, Cool, Melee (basic)
Minor: Evaluate, Haggle, Ranged (Bow)

Out of my class skill list [animal care, athletics, consume alcohol, endurance, gossip, melee (basic), lore, outdoor survival], I have 40 advancements (max 10 in one skill), so I put 5 advancements in all eight skills to be well-rounded.

So the total skills are:
animal care 10, athletics 5, cool 5, consume alcohol 5, endurance 5, evaluate 8, haggle 3, gossip 5, melee (basic) 10, ranged (basic) 8, lore 5, outdoor survival 5.
I'll read up on the possible talents and see what kind of role my character can fit. So far he seems to be a switch-hitter with decent melee, ranged, strength, and initiative, who also cares for animals and can guide people away from danger in the woods.

Interesting enough to join the party? Our big boy might be from a neighboring village who came by to deliver a message, but finds himself having to help the party for mutual survival.

Sorry for getting quiet after such a warm welcome. I’m finishing up cleaning the apartment I just moved out of and now at a family BBQ. My WFRP 4th core is in a box somewhere, so if anyone has a link I can reference, I will try to get the rolls done later tonight (currently on my mobile at the dinner).
