Majority for Dataphiles!
Celita is in her office in the Archives’ Cortex, intently studying a holographic display of a tactical board game. She moves a piece, and a moment later, another piece moves on its own in response. She looks up when she realizes she’s no longer alone in the office. “Naiaj, the new Starfinders are here. We can continue our game later.” She waves her hand, and the holographic board disappears. “Hello, new Starfinders. I am pleased to welcome you to the Society. I have a mission for you that requires technical aptitude and travel to the Diaspora. Are you prepared for such a mission?”
| Sobok. |
Sobok nods although he is not sure that he is the most technically skilled Starfinder. Unless his skills in life sciences proves to be useful. He then asks, "What type of technical skills are needed?"
T'Krunch the Famished
|
"No worries, Sobok," T'Krunch assures the vesk, "I've got you covered."
There is a slight, awkward pause that follows. Perhaps, the other agents are waiting for the ikeshti to add, "with sauce".
Thankfully, those words never come. Instead, T'Krunch seizes the momentarily silence as an opportunity to take a quick inventory of some of his gear.
| GM Kate |
"Excellent. I have reserved a Pegasus-class starship for you. Please go to the asteroid at the coordinates in the Diaspora I have programmed in for your flight plan. The asteroid was previously a site for the research firm Sanson-56 Surveys, a small, android-owned company that performed geological and environmental surveys on asteroids in the Diaspora. They published their results regularly until the company was purchased by Astral Extractions about six months ago. First, they stopped publishing, and now they’ve been shut down entirely. I would like to know why, and I believe the answer is on that asteroid. Please make a copy of the data on their servers. I’m sending you with a hard drive that should have sufficient memory for this purpose. Do you have any questions?"
| Sobok. |
"Does anyone know that we are coming? Or will we need to find our way in?" Sobok asks.
| GM Kate |
"The facility is abandoned but still technically the property of Astral Extractions. I would advise discretion on your mission."
| GM Kate |
"It is very likely. You should approach this assignment with caution."
| GM Kate |
"I trust that you possess sufficient skills to not get caught in the first place."
We can retcon any further questions, but I want to keep us moving as I am worried about time.
You all board a Pegasus-class starship and travel to the Diaspora. It takes 1d6 ⇒ 1 days to arrive. You scan the asteroid and find no signs of life. It indeed appears to be abandoned.
There is a large metal gate blocking access to the research station.
Engineering to unlock it or Piloting to nudge it open with the nose of your starship.
| Sobok. |
There are better pilots in the group, but if we use Piloting I would try and assist.
Piloting to Assist as Needed: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
| GM Kate |
You easily get the gate open!
The entrance to the research station includes several small hover vehicles that could be used to travel around the asteroid, though they don’t have the ability to travel into space. Each has an inventory sticker labeled “Sanson-56” that has been sloppily covered by another sticker reading “Astral Extractions.”
I've labeled the various areas with numbers. If you can give me a full ordered list of how you want to explore, that will speed things along.
| Sobok. |
I say we do a circle. So 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 6, 5.
T'Krunch the Famished
|
"Anyone know the significance of this?" T'Krunch inquires as he points a clawed finger at the "Sanson-56" labels.
Sobok's order is fine with me.
Navasi Lv1
|
That order is good for me as well.
Navasi examines the labels.
Culture: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 DC -5 if it relates to criminal underworld

... The asteroid was previously a site for the research firm Sanson-56 Surveys, a small, android-owned company that performed geological and environmental surveys on asteroids in the Diaspora....
I say we do a circle. So 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 6, 5.
"Dang, outvoted. I'd rrather do 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 5, 6. Whel, that's democracy." the dwarf smiles broadly.
| GM Kate |
Navasi knows that Astral Extractions is a large mining company based out of Absalom Station. Their administration is known to have connections to organized crime.
By the way, there is not breathable atmosphere is here, and the gravity is low.
1.
These living quarters are cleared of all personal belongings. It appears the staff had time to properly move out and pack up all their things. The living quarters have modifications for the low-gravity environment, such as straps and loops on the beds to secure sleepers.
2.
The mess area is mostly cleaned out, though there are still several posters on the walls marked with the Astral Extractions logo. These posters detail the procedure for moving out of the facility, reiterating
several times, on pain of criminal prosecution, that no company-owned
equipment or data is to be removed from the facility. Tables and chairs are fastened to the ground because of the low gravity. The mound in the
center includes food-preparation appliances and a refrigerator.
You find a puddle of sticky blue fluid that is growing mold.
3.
These living quarters are largely in the same state as those in area 1. However, one of the living quarters in this area was vandalized by its inhabitant before leaving. There are angry comments about Astral Projections carved into the walls and floor, paint splashed everywhere, and puddles of sticky blue fluid on the ground.
I'll pause there.
| Sobok. |
"Does anyone know what this blue fluid is? It seems to have been left in a few places on this rock." Sobok asks as he examines it.
Life Sciences: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

CiCi chuckles at Ziamat's suggestion. "Aye, I might just do,"
The dwarf keeps an sideways eye on the refridgerator counting the seconds...
PhySci vs goo?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
How long is the exploration taking? CiCi wants to keep an eye on the life support of her/everyone's suit.
Navasi Lv1

Navasi peels labels off until she sees one from Protogen.
Navasi looks around the area, leaving the blue goo she cannot identify for the others.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
| Sobok. |
"I do not, but we might be able to find some container here that would work to bring it back. It might be important to the Dataphiles." Sobok says.
T'Krunch the Famished

The mound in the center includes food-preparation appliances and a refrigerator.
T'Krunch moves forward.
The dwarf keeps an sideways eye on the refridgerator counting the seconds...*
T'Krunch opens the refrigerator. He is clearly disappointed by what he sees.
"Does anyone know what this blue fluid is? It seems to have been left in a few places on this rock." Sobok asks as he examines it.
"Better be lunch." concludes the ikeshti. "Its the only thing in the fridge."
He, too, takes a sample, using his custom microlab as a chemalyzer.
Life or Physical Science: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Add +4, if Physical Science, for chemalyze to identify an unknown drug, medicinal, poison, or other chemical substance.
| GM Kate |
Sobok realizes that the blue stuff is a melted puddle of a frozen dessert popular among androids.
The exploration is taking a matter of minutes so far.
5.
You find a research point. It appears this facility was not only a headquarters, but also a research center.
Navasi: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Ziamat: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
CiCi: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Tixylix: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
T'Krunch: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Sobok: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
7.
There is a closed chamber in the southwest corner of the research facility with coolant pipes all around it, indicating electronics in the room.
Tixylix notices that the room is trapped! The coolant pipes are set to spray the entire hallway when someone tries to open the door.
Engineering to disable. Aiding is allowed, but anyone who is aiding will have to be in the hallway too.
| Sobok. |
Sobok is no engineer so he backs up and waits for others to open the door.
Tixylix
|
Tixy looks around the research center What were they researching? Blue goo structural mechanics?
Room 5 Engineering: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Oh, they were doing age and mineral analysis of the asteroid
Moving along
Stop there or you'll kill us all. They booby trapped this hall.
Tixy moves up to the door, does not open it but uses and the drone's manipulator arms to hold a couple of pieces while he works to disable the trap.
Room 7 Engineering to disable: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
| GM Kate |
Tixylix easily disables the coolant tubes! After a bit more engineering to get the door open, you're inside!
This austere room contains computers, supplies, and large banks of servers lined up along the walls. The hum of electronics seems loud compared to the silence of the rest of the facility.
It will require several successes at Computers or Engineering to transfer all the data. Failing badly enough on a check has consequences.
| Sobok. |
Sobok stays back and lets the more technical members handle the process.
No engineering or computers here.
Navasi Lv1
|
Now that she can sit at a terminal like a civilized person instead of messing around with the guts of the machines, Navasi may be able to help.
Computers: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Sensing that she is heading down the wrong virtual pathways, she changes tactics and tries again.
Computers, Reroll, 1 Nova: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 1 = 17
Tixylix

Tixylix positions himself on his drone as it settles on the floor beside Navasi. He begins to tap at an input terminal to recover the data requested.
Computers to hack the Gibson, with Navasi's aid: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 = 19
I have Hack Directory so if I set off any countermeasure please let me know
