Irlana watches Mathezic only enough to be sure he isn't taking any valuables that obviously aren't his. Once he exits the house she locks the door.

"We're already here. I think we should head downstairs. The cave might be a dead end but we're supposed to clear any dangers from this house and inventory the mage's property. Let's finish the job, then check out the cave. Anything there isn't in this house and not covered under the contract!"

Mathezic doesn't take anything of value out of the house, but he does grab plenty of food and water for the trip, along with a couple of blankets. He also has a belt pouch with some money in it, but he swears that its his own money that he saved from his wages. Finally he grabs a few pieces of simple cookware, but leaves the valuable porcelain and silver behind.

The party descends the staircase into the pitch black cellar. Only Ilvaria is able to see in this room, and she can see the room is filled with stacked crates. The room is cold and damp, but it looks like it has been swept relatively recently.

Most of the party are going to need a light source to see in the cellar.

There are three interconnected rooms, all filled with crates. It takes awhile to search through them, and they end up being filled with a variety of mundane supplies. Things like pots, bottles, tools, extra linens, candles, bolts of cloth, cheap furniture. There's also some building materials and cans of paint. Hunclay seemed to be a bit of a pack rat! No magical auras come up in this room either.

There is a door on the western wall. Its not locked.

Irlana looks over the stacks of crates and wonders if they could get away with describing the stuff here as miscellaneous junk. Nothing down here looks valuable but there sure is a lot of it.[/ooc]

The answer is yes. As long as the party is securing the location and getting a general idea of what is here, we don't need to have you roleplay counting everything.

Speaking of time and how long things take; is anyone else casting any long duration spells besides Irlana's light spell?

The door opens up into a hallway that leads to the right and the to the left. A perceptive person (Irlana would see this without needing to roll) would notice that the construction down here is different. It looks like this hallway is a bit newer and the style is different.

Down the left hallway there are three doors along the wall. The farthest one has two magical auras. At this point Ilvaria immediately recognizes them as the same enchantments used on many of the doors in the house.

Noticing the difference in the construction of the walls Irlana points it out to the group. "There may be a way to bypass the doors. ?? I don't know much about construction, but maybe these walls are temporary? I mean not holding anything up? We can check out behind these doors that aren't trapped and maybe there's a way to break through the wall to bypass the traps. We'd still have to disable the traps. But maybe opening the door from the other side will do it?"

The first two doors are unlocked. The first one is a filled with racks of wine bottles from all over the Inner Sea and beyond.

The second door is cold to the touch but also unlocked. Inside this room is filled with sides of beef, pork, mutton, fowl and fish. The room is extremely cold, causing all the meat in here to freeze. The cause of the cold temperature is a wall of solid ice on the back wall.

A wall of ice with permanency cast on it.

The last door, which has the two enchantments cast on it, is locked and possibly trapped.

Does Sir Falcon still want to try to smash open the other door?

The wall is going to have a hardness of 8 and 540 hp. It may take a day or so to get through it. Remember, your party has found a number of keys as well. Hunclay's body had two keys, one to the front door and a brass key that you haven't found a lock to yet. Then there was a key ring with about a dozen keys. And finally there was a little charm that deactivates arcane lock, which opens some doors but makes others at least easier to lock pick.

Falcon reluctantly puts away the crowbar and then remembers - he has the keys. He's had the keys all along.

Sir Falcon anticipates another painful blast like the one he experienced when he opened the chest with Hunclay's spellbooks. But the key turns and the door opens without a shock.

This last room has a pungent smell. In this room are shelves filled with glass jars, sacks and small boxes. Everything has a paper label marking what it is. The items in here are varied and very strange, with no real connection between what they would be used for. There is a jar of bat guano, a box full of tiny glass rods and a glass terrarium filled with live spiders. Another box is labeled 'diamond dust' and is filled with tiny sacks of fine, glassy powder.

Nothing in this room is magical, but Ilvaria recognizes that the items in here are valuable, as they are used to cast spells. This room has enough common spell casting materials to fill a hundred component pouches and even a good supply of more valuable components, such as diamond dust and black opals.

Actually, Hunclay seems like exactly the kind of person to have a log book.

On second thought Irlana remembers a dog eared tome in the library that was filled with numbers, short hand and his weird little wizard letters. It didn't seem interesting at the time, but it was clearly some kind of accounting ledger.

Glancing around for any sort of a ledger Irlana remembers the book in the library. "Wait! The library had something. Give me a moment...."

She runs back upstairs to the library and retrieves the dog eared tome. When she gets back with it she tries to decipher the coding.... Was there any table identifying the coding to something? She compares numbers against the items on the shelves.... "Now if his code just made some sort of sense!?!"

Assuming a linguistics check she would need help....

The ledger makes sense when its in the component room. Many of the strange runes in the book appear on the labels of containers. Having it here will make it easy for Lady Origena's servants to catalogue everything later.

Nearby to the west is another door. Oddly, this door doesn't appear to be locked and isn't radiating any magical auras.

"Excellent thinking, I had completely forgotten about that find earlier", Andwise acknowledges to his fellow halfling.

He continues to move follow with the group, rarely more than an arms length from Tanssi. Every few minutes his eyes flash black and the magical auras of the room spring to life.

As Falcon moves towards the door, Andwise releases Tanssi to move towards the front where they can be more ready to respond to whatever lies on the other side.

The door at the end of the hall is unlocked and leads to a 10x10 ft antechamber. On the northern wall is an artfully wrought gate made of bright metal and secured with a hefty lock. Beyond lies a larger chamber. The walls of this chamber are covered in strange runes and glyphs.

Most prominent is one long word written in foot high letters above the gate. The letters are jagged and jumbled together, like the broken bones of a deer that died caught up in a bramble thicket. Even though they can't read it, Sir Falcon and Irlana both feel a little queasy just looking at the letters.

In fact, I don't think anyone in the party understands this language.

Ilvaria decides to step forward and open up the gate. The door opens easily and she enters the room.

I assume the party keeps up its formation.

The room they enter is large and there is an alcove in the north eastern corner containing a circular pit. And there is a creature climbing up out of the pit. It pulls itself up and stands up to its full height of seven feet. The creature looks like a lean, muscular humanoid, but with the legs and head of a goat. It is naked except for a thick leather belt and a bandolier across its chest. It is holding a wicked looking halberd in one hand. The blade of the weapon is covered in thick black crude.

"Hunclay! Hunclay!" the creature shouts in a raspy voice. "You've messed up this time and now I'm going to make a new loin cloth out of your face!" The creature lets out a piercing shriek and runs towards the adventurers with the point of its weapon leveled to impale them.

Okay, sounds good! I'm going to have Tanssi delay until after the goat monster acts.

Sir Falcon moves up, but not so far that he is in in the darkness. The creature charges forward with the point of its halberd leveled at Sir Falcon. The samurai strikes the monster and sparks fly from his blade as the weapon slices into the creature. The blade should have cut deeper but its skin feels unnaturally tough. Simultaneously, the spike from the monster's weapon pierces through his breastplate.

I hope you allow that I also still do something with my skunk familiar. I didn’t dare before but now with spell resistance we have shoot with all we’ve got. :-/

A skunk can spray a stream of noxious musk at a single target within 10 feet as a standard action. With a successful ranged touch attack, the creature struck by this spray must make a DC 11 Fortitude save or be nauseated for 1d4 rounds and then sickened for 1d4 minutes by the horrific stench. A successful save reduces the effect to only 1d4 rounds of being sickened. A creature cannot use the scent ability as long as it is affected by this musk.

The color spray flickers as it strikes the goat monster, but manages to maintain its power. The monster drops its halberd and covers its eyes. Then the skunk sprays it and the creature gets a big lungful of foul smelling musk.

Irlana feels the pain of Sir Falcon's wound being transferred to her and accepts it with a grimace. If it kept the warrior alive they had a chance. She casts a spell of her own causing a starknife of magical force to appear by the creature and attack.

Andwise casts stardust on the monster, but the dust fails to stick to its fur due to the creature's natural resistance to magic.

Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage, PA: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Claw: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Tanssi pounces towards the monster with flashing claws and fangs. The claws don't pierce it's tough hide but the fangs bite off a bit of fur. The damage doesn't seem to be as much as it could have been though.

Irlana summons a weapon of pure energy and while it holds up against the goat man's spell resistance the weapon fails to land a solid hit. The monster recovers from the stunning spell but is still disoriented from the skunk musk.
