GM Badblood |
Since we're starting the dungeon, I just want to let the party know how I handle traps. I generally assume the party is keeping an eye out for traps and I will roll Perception automatically. But there might be situations where I only have one person roll, such as a very narrow corridor where the other party members wouldn't have a chance to see it. Generally I will do the same thing with secret doors also.
Of course you can make additional Perception checks if you see something suspicious, but I like to just make sure that you know you're going to get a chance to find something. And that way you don't feel like you need to make a Perception check for every 5 ft. square.
Ilvaria Syzrendross |
Thanks for everything! That sounds great!
Please note that as a standard procedure we’ll cast detect magic as well and scan all areas.
GM Badblood |
Yeah, that makes it a little easier. It's one of those things that is SOP for most groups and it actually makes my job easier because I can assume that you're going to do it and not have to remember if someone remembered to cast it.
Andwise Tunelley |
While I didn't want to do it, based on the materials that we have here (and the RP reasons of being responsible for our own characters prior to the dungeon) I shifted around my spells known to include rejuvenate eidolon.
Current Spells known:
Acid Splash
Detect Magic
Guidance
Light
Mage Armor
Rejuvenate Eidolon
As part of the SOP, Andwise will use Guidance before any "scripted" perception and DD check.
GM Badblood |
That's fine. Without a divine spellcaster in the group, you're probably going to need Rejuvenate Eidolon.
Melenthe Elberion |
With so much arcane casting, we can definitely flood any area with detect magic.
Unless she us swimming or climbing (like now), I would assume that Melenthe has her bow in hand whenever we go into a dangerous or risky area.
GM Badblood |
I think it's reasonable that you'd have your favorite weapon out when entering a dungeon. That's obviously a bow for Melenthe. So you could take a shot.
GM Badblood |
I made a slide for recording your treasure, but also feel free to make your own slides for notes, etc So far all you've found are those mithril daggers.
Suizal Anemos |
Suizal is somewhat tempted to do as the raven says, more out of curiosity. Would anyone be opposed if she did?
GM Badblood |
I believe Suizal is the only one who identified the creature and he hasn't shared that it's an imp yet with the broader group. He's the one who best understands what risks that releasing the creature might impose.
GM Badblood |
Melenthe is up! I don't think they have posted since 07/02. Are you still with us?
GM Badblood |
I'm going to give Melenthe a little more time to post before botting them, I also directly messaged the player, GeraintElberion. I hope they are doing okay and we here from them soon.
GM Badblood |
Okay, I think we have to accept that we may have lost Melenthe for good. I haven't received a response from my PM and the last time they've posted was July 2nd. I am going to bot them for now; but after this dungeon we may need to reevaluate what we're going to do. We could go forward with 4; but I could also recruit someone new. I don't think we'd have trouble finding someone just posting on the boards but I'd also accept any recommendations if someone knows a good player.
And maybe Melenthe will show up. That would be my hope, as I hope that they are alright.
Ilvaria Syzrendross |
Hi GM!
I am fine with every option.

I don’t think that we have lost either of them. :-)
They will surely be back soon.
Andwise Tunelley |
Sorry everyone. I got behind at work and my other games have really slowed down- so I got out of habit of checking in. My fault, and wont happen again ;)
GM Badblood |
No problem! I was just starting to worry. Its one thing to lose one player, but if two drop out I have to start wondering if its me!
Ilvaria Syzrendross |
I love this game!! :-D
GM Badblood |
Ilvaria, do you know if Melenthe will return?
My thoughts are that at this point, it would be easy to add another player into the game. Now, the module is already balanced for four players, so losing one person wouldn't be the biggest deal in the world either and maybe we'd rather not add another person. I would just stop beefing up encounters and run them completely as written.
(Normally, there would be a persistent unseen servant in this room to turn the clockwork servant's gears every day; but I decided to spice the encounter up by adding a homunculus to the fight that does the job instead.)
The advantage of recruiting someone new is obvious. They'll bring new skills and abilities to the group and think finding a player will be easy. Of course, that might also change the dynamic of the group. I'd like to know if anyone has a preference.
In the meantime, it might be a good time for the group to go back to the surface and see if they can't get some healing, as two of the party members are pretty beat up.
Ilvaria Syzrendross |
I have no idea if Melenthe will return. :-(
So adding another player can make sense. As you wish.
GM Badblood |
Ok, from an earlier post it sounded like you might have had some insight into the matter.
Does anyone else have an opinion?
Andwise Tunelley |
I have no opinion. Recruiting would allow us to rebalance a little as a party but I am OK playing with who we have left as well.
Irlana Systra |
Let me know if I've made any glaring errors.
"The sheriff's people told me what had happened, and where the adventuring group had gone. I made my way to the tower, but didn't enter. I didn't want to risk any traps that the group might have bypassed but not disarmed. I decided just to wait outside to greet the team as they came out."
GM Badblood |
Okay, so I put the total gold the group has on the sheet. I think its a good idea to have a loot sheet, but all I'm going to do is put whatever you get on the sheet I made. I'll let one of you figure out how to keep track of treasure after it's been divided up. Feel free to make more sheets in the slide if needed. Everyone should have access to make edits.
And Irlana, when you get the chance, there is a table early on in the slide that I'd like you to fill out. It makes it easier for me when I have to roll initiatives and Perception checks and later on for chronicle sheets and reporting too.
Ilvaria Syzrendross |
Welcome Irlana!!!
Irlana Systra |
Thanks all and especially GM Badblood.
I'll be on the road today but if the hotel has decent Internet I'll get the info on the sheet tonight. If not, I'll be home tomorrow evening and I'll get it done for sure then.
Irlana Systra |
Done! And glad to join your group!

All the coins are valid currency, as people will take them simple because they still made of precious metals. And the Taldan Empire is actually still around (just greatly diminished) and they even still mint new coins just like these. There would even still be a few of the old Imperial coins floating around in circulation. They'd be uncommon, but enough of them were issued in the past that everyone in the party has at least seen one before. On the other hand, no one has probably ever seen one of the "roosters" before, so they were never widely circulated.
So basically, the coins being old has no practical effect on their value, but does tell your PCs a little bit about the history of this tower.
Andwise Tunelley |
I have functionally no internet this holiday weekend. I’ll have a post with rolls and thoughts up later tonight. Sorry to be the delay here…
GM Badblood |
Just to let you guys know, once you've finished up with this dungeon, you'll be leveling up to 2. And if you do want to make some *minor* changes to your character, just run them by me. I mean like a feat or skill point change, maybe even swapping out a spell known, that level of change. I like your characters as they are but I understand that sometimes you okay a few sessions and realize you made a mistake or want to switch something out.
Ilvaria Syzrendross |
Thanks GM! No changes for Ilvaria.
Irlana Systra |
I gain a hex and a couple of spells at 2nd level. But the actual level up would be when we come out to rest, right?
Suizal Anemos |
Will do level up later today! Might change a spell, but will let you know beforehand.

Yeah, it'll happen after the dungeon is finished. You have a few loose ends to deal with first, but I just want to give you a heads up so you can start thinking about it. And of course you'll have treasure to distribute too.
Irlana Systra |
Treasure is a good thing!
Irlana Systra |
Is there a party treasure sheet? Or are we just splitting it up and keeping it on our character sheets?
Nevermind. Found it....
Irlana Systra |
Thanks. Wasn't sure on the potions. I did roll the check:
Perception: 17 and 23
GM Badblood |
Honestly, if the party just prefers to leave the haunt in place, we can just end the dungeon at this point. Technically you're leaving a bunch of experience on the table with not figuring out a way to end the haunt, but its not something we need to be too strict about.
Irlana Systra |
Irlana was curious about the haunt when we came in....

I moved our loot tracker to a Google Sheet:
I don't have a value for the 5 small gems, but everything else is listed.
I also added the link to the slide as well. GM: Keep putting stuff in that form and I can move it over to the sheet.
Current totals: 3174 gp (selling all but the moderate wounds potions)
6-way split: 529
7-way split (Equal party fund): 453
If you want to add something to the sheet: Toss in the name, value, quantity, claimed- and it will do the rest. If something sells for full value gold, gems, or items) add the value to the equation built in.
I will clear the fields every time we "cash out"
GM Badblood |
That spreadsheet is awesome! Thanks for doing that.
The 5 gems are worth 25 gp each.
And just to point out, the bow and studded leather are both Small sized. I don't think either of the halflings are proficient in bows, but one of you might like to use the armor.
Ilvaria Syzrendross |
Thanks for the effort!!! :-D

Its a sheet I developed for our PnP games, and it was pretty easy to convert over. If anyone wants a copy of it for their personal use, let me know- I can make one where the "math" fields aren't protected (so my fellow players don't accidentally break it :) ).
