Absolutely. That was a plural you. I'll just go ahead and roll for Lorne.

Piloting: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

Jaeric turns down the slope, get his traction back, and then makes a wide turn to regain the path.

Lorne on the other hand tries to turn up the slope, but too much snow has built up under his treads, and he can't gain traction. He desperately tries reversing, but it's too late. His snow dragon rides a wave of snow all the way down to the tree-line below. The machine crunches heavily into a pair of thick tree trunks.

Lorne and Sparky are quickly out of the cab. They wave to signal that they're all right. They circle behind the dragon to inspect the damage.

Sparky calls in over his comm unit. "Looks like some of the idlers' axles are bent and the track cover's been pressed into the tread. If we could drag it off the trees we might be able to straighten that cover, but the tread might not stay on the idlers the way they're misaligned. Only a couple hours work could say for sure."

Pulling his snowdragon around to where he can get a good angle on pulling the wrecked one free, Zephyr says, “Does someone want to get out and set a line, or should I give it a shot?”

Lorne and Sparky connect a tow-line to a pair of hard-points on the front of their dragon and drag the line uphill to Zephyr's where they attach the line to his forward hard points. "Reverse is the strongest gear in these vehicles, and the least likely to overspeed and slip. Still go easy. " Lorne comments.

Zephyr gently engages reverse and applies power. His snow dragon inches back up the slope, slewing the nose of the stranded dragon uphill, and then dragging it off the tree trunk.

Sparky and Lorne disappear behind their dragon, crouching in the snow and gravel to examine the vehicle, and confer.

Sparky speaks when they raise their heads, stand and look at you across the bow of their dragon. "Couple hours work and we can get it going. We might not be able to hit top speed without risking the tread coming off."

From her vantage higher up the slope, Never sees evidence of bird and rodent archetypes flying above and moving through the trees. She even spots a small vole-like creature moving over the snow. There's nothing else to distract her.

After an hour and a half, Sparky, Lorne, and Jaeric have removed the worst damaged bogey and shuffled some of the others to minimize their misalignment. Lorne pronounces the repair complete; Sparky qualifies the statement to include a limit of three quarters of full speed.

You're ready to move on.

I meant bogey instead of idler in the previous post.

In the clearing two gray-green centaur-like creatures use spears to beat back attacks from two massive beasts that resemble gigantic sloths with giraffe-like necks and long, equine snouts. As you watch one of the centaurs rear unto its hind legs to thrust its spear toward one of the sloth's head.

Vehicle tactical Rules

Straight line movement for full speed. We'll say you were moving as you were coming up on the scene. But you still need to make the piloting check. Snow dragons are built for this kind of thing so the terrain is OK. Note the rules on ceasing full speed movement. Snow dragons are second level vehicles for the purposes of pilot checks.

When Jaeric opens his windows, the cold wind hits him like a cold slap in the face, and an icy squeeze in his chest for the few moments it takes his suit's environmental controls to compensate. He plunges his snow dragon forward. Sheets of snow churn from his tracks and splash onto the lower half of Lorne's windscreen when the lashunta drives by.

The centaur's flinch away from the approaching snow dragon, but then gather themselves and continue their defense against the giant sloths. One's slim spear looks entirely insufficient for the task. The other switches to a bow, then nocks an arrow and lets a puny arrow fly. The arrow sticks in the throat of one of the giant beasts, but only seems to make it made.

The mezoloths crash to the edge of the clearing and strike with long clawed paws. The blows are heavy and send both of the smaller centaur like creatures sprawling. They try to get up while the sloths loom over them, raising their paws for a finishing blow.

Moved Jaeric's dragon roughly 16 squares (full-speed with the 'race ' action instead of double move) in an angled straight-ish line.
Sparky delays until Lorne can put him in a better attack postion. In fact, if Sparky's player doesn't show up, would you mid running Sparky in this combat, hustonj ? Only seems fair since he ran Lorne in the much of the ship combat. Lorne, you also have the option to 'race'. You'll need to pass a DC 12 pilot check to do it. That's one of the things that I've noticed, as well. Seems like the damage scaling doesn't keep up with the combat situations as monsters get tougher. We're supposed to be getting tougher too (in terms of hit points, stamina, etc.), but it doesn't seem to keep pace. I suppose the action economy is supposed to help offset it a bit, so I'm still kind of evaluating the system the more I play.

Jaeric's spell continues to annoy the first mezoloth. The second spell does likewise.

The centaur-like creatures try again to roll away from their giant assailants. This time they get far enough away to rise to their feet.

Never finally has the mezosloth's attention. A heavy paw swings clumsily past her, but catches her across the back on the follow through. Claws slash into her armor, but its the sheer blunt force behind the massive paw that knocks her two steps forward before she can right herself. No trip. Lucky you.

The other mezosloth lunges forward and flattens the eastern centaur again.

Never feels the crush of the giant's claws against her back, and then she tumbles forward, her breath momentarily exhausted. But she gathers herself and recovers quickly - a lucky step to keep from crashing headlong into the deep snow.

She's too close for comfort, but battling monster's the size of buildings is never easy. This being her first such adversary, she feels things are going as well as one could hope.

The taclash cuts the frigid air, snapping at the monster twice more!

Seeing Zephyr valiantly leap from his vehicle in an attempt to save the fallen centaur-like creature, Jaeric summons the power of Desna's dreams and stretches forth a hand towards the mezoloth menacing him. A barrage of images, scents, sound, and the sweeping stars of the heavens assaults the beast's simple mind.

Jaeric casts mind thrust II on the blue mezoloth, dealing: 4d10 ⇒ (3, 10, 4, 9) = 26 damage, but a DC 16 Will save halves it.

Beset by acid, whips, and gunfire, the mezosloth to the north turns and dashes away. Half-buried in snow on the ground, the centaur-like creature raises its head and watches the big shaggy beast retreat.

Never gets her first good look at the centaur. It has distinctly light grey (almost silver) coloration, with occasional mottling of green around joints. Its lower arms are bulkier and elongated, allowing it to use them as a second set of legs. It also has a vertically-oriented
mouth with a bony chin protrusion that might collect food or liquid runoff.

Then the centaur looks at Never and gestures toward the continuing battle to the southwest, before collapsing wholly.

To the southwest, the other centaur scuttles farther away from its huge hairy antagonist. Somehow it manages to raise its bow above the snow and loose an arrow toward the mezosloth as it swipes its paw down. The arrow lodges in an eye. It roars in apparent pain and its paws fly to cover its ears while it shakes its head violently. Zephyr takes advantage of the distraction to sink a heavy blow. This is just too much; this gigantic sloth also turns and flees.

The bow-wielder looks at you all.

Combat over. What a great round for you guys.

"That is well," Naarma replies to Lorne. She keeps the same deliberate tone with Never.

" We just arrived. We would have been too late for them. Again, I thank you. Such aid is unexpected from off-worlders. Were any of you injured? We can treat your wounds, if necessary."

Meanwhile other members of her team attend to the two injured centaurs.

Jaeric exits his snow dragon once he sees the mezoloths departing, sprinting forward to the most injured of the centaur-like people in case they need healing. Upon seeing the others of their kind emerge from the treeline, he slowly backs up in case they take issue with assistance from outsiders. But, when the others begin answering their questions, he remains silent so he can assess what he can only assume are the natives they've been searching for...

"Greetings, Naarma," he finally interjects, "No. We're not affiliated with the Winterharvest researchers. We came here on a mission for the Starfinder Society, tracing an incredibly old migration from a distant star system and the influence of some alien artifacts our colleagues discovered. I'm Jaeric Kem. This is Never, Lorne, and Zephyr. Sparky is still there in one of our vehicles." He gestures towards Doorma and Fallma. "We did what we could to assist these two, as we saw they were being attacked by those giant beasts. But, in truth, we were looking for you and your kind...or, at least, I assume you're the native population living here? We had hoped to speak with you about that which brought us here."

Naarma says a few words to one of her team and the other centaur approaches Never. From a rough hide pouch it draws a jar of sickly smelling unguent, a handful of moss, and some soft fine-grained strips of hide. Unguent and moss go on the wound and the strips bind it in place.
