"Echo" Dungpile
The rag covered heap is simply unconscious from the what appears to be broken leg. The wagon apparently crushed his leg and the added acrobatic stunt didn't help anything with the creatures pain levels.
Fuma Nobane
"He needs to be cleaned up and then I can start dressing the wounds. Might need a splint to keep that limb immobile." Fuma starts accessing the creature's condition.
"Helps that he's unconscious." she adds on.
Aeleni
|
Well if you really insist on doing that, do it on the wagon. And do not leave this creature alone for a second or out of your eyes! Let's get moving, we're wasting valuable time!
Aeleni does not seem pleased about the incident.
RIZZENMAGNUS
Torin Ironbeard
"Ugh, just roll it into the ditch. We can't waste time with every stray that we come across. We're under a tight time pressure here. Gotta save the world remember?"
Torin starts to get the team ready to leave.
Just to be clear, Torin is super anti-gully dwarf, but personally I think a gully dwarf sorcerer is truly inspired and look forward to seeing it play out.
Duatha Sunshear
Duatha shakes his head at Torin, "Agreed but perhaps this little fellow can aid us? Is it coincidence or providence that we found him?"
Once Fuma binds him and places him in the wagon, Duatha will jump in and rub a healing "salve" on his leg.
"Echo" Dungpile
As the salve is applied, Echo stirs but doesn't appear to come "awake."
Fuma Nobane
Fuma works swiftly as bandages and a few sturdy branches are grabbed and used.
Her hands move over with ease of practice as she binds the injured leg and secure it. With that done, she moves the gully dwarf over to the wagon and coaxes the mules to begin moving slowly increasing their speed to their comfortable maximum.
Bander Drunkensquirrel
In the course of meeting the gully dwarf and getting him 'help' Bander reached into a pouch. The attempt was subtle and unkown to most however. As he withdrew his hand it was covered in a sort of goo. He scraped his hand on the side of the wagon and made a sour face.
Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Aeleni
|
Seeing Duatha apply a "salve" on the gullydwarf, Aeleni just shakes her head, but remains silent.
Let's go then!
RIZZENMAGNUS
ill leave the roll be. its a good bluff. and no one has any real reason, aside from Fuma, to suspect that Echo is indeed playing opossum. So Fuma would be the only one to make an opposed sense motive check.
kender swiping: 1d20 ⇒ 2 oof. yesh. thats bad.
i just counted the number of items upon Echo's person based on his character sheet, and applied the dice roll. [b]Bander is now the proud owner of a wand of mage armor.
how hard are you going to push those mules Fuma?
Fuma Nobane
Sense Motive 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
The woman finds the gully dwarf too stiff to be unconscious but doesn't pursue this as she feels it more likely that her companions might just toss him off to the side.
With the mules, she pushes them to go as far as they can before stopping to give them their rest. She knew that speed wasn't their forte but their endurance wasn't something to be scoffed at either.
As hard as I can push them I guess.
"Echo" Dungpile
Echo cracks his eyes open slowly to see if he is being observed.
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 8 Seeing what he believes is the talls busy elsewhere, he begins to "steathily" search the wagon for something to eat or something to cause a distraction. perception for search: 1d20 ⇒ 5stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Bander Drunkensquirrel
Bander cleans off the wand and his hands from the bit of sticky grime that it came with. "Hey look a pointy thing." Bander looks confused, "This guy doesn't look like a teacher. Why does he have a pointer." Realizing that he is talking about someone in front of someone he looks up at the gully dwarf, "Strange this thing stuck to my hand while we were helping you into the wagon."
"Echo" Dungpile
Echo freezes briefly at the comment made by the kender to him. Then deciding the ruse is up, sits up and responds..Make it happen stick convin.. a makes people be nice to me. Back to me it belongs. He holds out his hand expectantly. Then before any response can be made, I's hungry. what you got for my stoma... belly.
"Echo" Dungpile
I's appre...thank you. Echo states then rapidly "inhales" the food watching the kender and hoping he doesn't try to take it back.
Duatha Sunshear
"Tell me, ah friend, how did you find yourself out here in the middle of the road in the middle of the night?"
The elf watches the creature warily as he recognizes what "method" the wretched thing utilized to "dust itself off". A simple spell but a spell nonetheless, High Sorcery is not something common among dwarves, at least as far as Duatha is aware of.
RIZZENMAGNUS

amongst dwarves, its more rare than a Dark Elf. For a gully dwarf to cast spells...this is truly something special. From what is common knowledge, in the entire history of Krynn there has never ever been a spell casting gully dwarf.
for traveling, let's have Fuma do some rolls for pushing the mules. each roll applies to an hour/2 miles of travel, with the starting DC of 10, and each consecutive roll incurring a +2 to the save. So hour 3 would be a DC 14 con save, hour 4, dc 16 for hour 4, etc. Anyone can make a handle animal check dc 20 to negate the need for these con saves, but this handle animal check must be performed first. once the Con saves start, then only the Con saves can be utilized.
all of you can continue to talk normally; we can say that these conversations occur during the travels.
"Echo" Dungpile
Echo looks at Duatha for a moment judging his intent. You tall ears. I not out here no where, I out here here. Wagon make easier trav... move than feets. What you do out here in midd... of road? Threes tall ones and twos part tall ones make stran... odd group.
This is a strange group. Wonder why they travel by night. Echo thinks. His thoughts are much more concise than his words as he attempts to "sound" like his other gully dwarf kin.
"Echo" Dungpile
Dange...scary place! I's run away or hide. Watch talls get rid of scary. Unhide then. All is well. Echo says with added emphasis on the scary place and a big smile.
Fuma Nobane
Handle animal? 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 Is this only for 1st hour?
Fuma Nobane
6 hours then.
Handle animal 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 <---Pass
Handle animal 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 <---Fail
Handle animal 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 <---Fail
Handle animal 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 <---Fail
Handle animal 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 <---Pass
Handle animal 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 <---Fail
That's a spate of consistent low rolls :P
I suppose Con checks begin on the 1st fail then.
RIZZENMAGNUS
6 hours then.
Handle animal 1d20+7 <---Pass
Handle animal 1d20+7 <---Fail
Handle animal 1d20+7 <---Fail
Handle animal 1d20+7 <---Fail
Handle animal 1d20+7 <---Pass
Handle animal 1d20+7 <---Fail
That's a spate of consistent low rolls :P
I suppose Con checks begin on the 1st fail then.
correct. the handle animal check is an attempt for you, the driver, to manage the team without tiring them out, necessitating the need for CON checks. so with your previous posting roll, and this roll, you have managed another 4 miles, and will now need to make rolls for endurance of the mules. remember, the mules get a +6 bonus to these checks.
Zak, the Mariner
Zak aids with Handle Animal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Zak aids with Handle Animal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Zak aids with Handle Animal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Zak aids with Handle Animal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Zak aids with Handle Animal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Zak aids with Handle Animal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Has anyone asked Echo for his name yet? :D
Bander Drunkensquirrel
Bander sits in the wagon and dips his nose inside his shirt trying to deal with the smell. "Perhaps with the injury it might be good to ge our new friend cleaned up. Ah new friend what's your name?" Bander looks to the gully dwarf.
"Echo" Dungpile
I has been yells with lots of names. Most just echo. So I cho...pick echo as name. The Gully dwarf says around its mouth full of food.
Fuma Nobane
Mule Go!!!
DC 10 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 pass
DC 12 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 pass
DC 14 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 pass
DC 16 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 fail
DC 18 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 pass but moot.
RIZZENMAGNUS
even with Zak's aide on the handle animal check, the first check only passes. so then we go to the Con save vs fatigue, and Fuma got 3 successful saves, 8 extra miles for this first days total movement, resulting in 24 total miles traveled before the mules all stop. Resting the mules for 8 hours will alieviate the fatigued condition upon them. or if there's another means you have to remove the fatigued condition.
Sides heaving with exhaustion, the mules come to a stop along the side of the road, in between available inns for the night.
Fuma Nobane
Fuma tries her best and the mules return it with all their strength but even they need time to rest. After an additional 24 miles, the signs indicate that they need their rest and as Zak helps her remove the harness from them and give them their feed.
She too volunteers to take first watch.
Duatha Sunshear
Duatha nods his head in disapproval at Fuma, "You should be taking no watch at all Fuma, we need you as well rested as our four legged heroes, no one else can do what you can do, I shall take first watch with Zak. I have had time to rest and prepare spells".
"Echo" Dungpile
Echo grabs his stuff and quickly scampers under the wagon and hides before going to sleep. stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Sure that he is secure for the time being, he goes to sleep not worrying much about the talls, pointy eared talls, or half talls.
Once asleep the nightmares begin again. The sleep is restless all night and the Aghar doesn't feel rested upon waking the next morning.
Zak, the Mariner
This beastie must think I'm dumb. Why disillusion him so soon!
Zak.... echo says as if trying out a new word. beastie or cowie? he asks in feigned ignorance.
"Neither" - Zak grunts as he takes care of the mules.
RIZZENMAGNUS, just a detail, but I think the two first Handle Animal checks pass? With Aid from Zag, first is 17, and second is 12? Might mean a few extra miles?
Duatha nods his head in disapproval at Fuma, "You should be taking no watch at all Fuma, we need you as well rested as our four legged heroes, no one else can do what you can do, I shall take first watch with Zak. I have had time to rest and prepare spells".
"It seems we have a deal then" - the minotaur nods.
Do we have enough to do all double watches?
Torin Ironbeard
Torin gives the tired mules a good brush down. "You did good work today."
"Everyone who can, should take a turn at the watch. If we need Fuma sharper, then let her have the first or last watch, so at least her sleep in uninterrupted."
Watch order doesn't really matter to me, but we should just set an order and keep it day-to-day. If we can double up, it's probably a good idea. Torin's perception is +2, so it's not that likely he'll even see trouble coming.
RIZZENMAGNUS
good idea to set a watch list. easy reference for me.
@zak. hmmmm...technically, that first roll, having reviewed what you said, should have been a failure. the handle animal DC was set to 20, due to the difficulty of managing the mule team without incurring the need of an endurance check. once failed, then the endurance check kicks in. So, we will leave the mileage total as is...which i will post tomorrow as i will have more time to properly figure out where on the map you guys are.
RIZZENMAGNUS
well, thats odd. i could have sworn i posted the total number of miles from Solanthus to Palanthas on the road.
ok. So, its roughly 208 miles from Solanthus to Palanthas. at the base rate of 16 miles per day, itd take 13ish days to travel by mule wagon.
Fuma: make some rolls. First start with the handle animal checks, dc 20. zak can do aid another with this roll. Then do the rolls for the endurance check. itd look something like this:
day 3 travel
handle animal dc 20: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 pass
handle animal dc 20: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 fail. move to endurance
endurance dc 10: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 pass
endurance dc 12: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 pass
endurance dc 14: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 fail. stops for the day.
total distance traveled 22 miles
day 4 travel
handle animal dc 20: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 fail. move to endurance
endurance dc 10: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 pass
endurance dc 12: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 pass
endurance dc 14: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 pass
endurance dc 16: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 fail. stops for the day.
total distance traveled 22 miles.
and so on until you hit a total of 176 miles. 176 is the remainder of the journey to palanthas.
"Echo" Dungpile
Echo hangs out in the wagon. Not offering to talk much or to join in to the guarding as he evaluates the trustworthiness of his new companions. He instead fixes his "hammock" under the wagon and spends the nights tossing and turning in nightmares and unrest.
Will his new companions accept him? Will they try to control or take away his make it happen thingy? He tries not to use the "magic=make it happen thingy" when under observation just to be sure. He remains on alert around them all.
Bander Drunkensquirrel
Bander volunteers for a watch shift if anyone trusts a Kender's attention span. As he readies his sleeping spot as far from gully stink as he can without appearing to be rude. He comments to the others readying for sleep, "He's a real twitchy one."
Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 Oh hey a book.
As he plops down he pulls out a book small by human eyes and tries to make sense of it. As he reads out loud quietly its clear he is reading from a poem of Mishakel. "The Great Mother longs to hold you under her wing as a hen her chicks . . ." He looks up and locks eyes with Fuma, "I think you dropped this while we were setting camp." He closes the book gingerly and passes it back to the human.
