Even with the table for cover, Mell’s fire bolts slam into one of the duergar igniting the creature as it crumbles in smoldering pain.
Umikh squeezes into position around the table straddling the still warm pile of duergar. He swings his blade at one of the remaining guards, he leaves two deep wounds in the duergar’s chest.
Gideon moves into barracks and seeing no one in major need of assistance, he closes on the last remaining duergar that has not been engaged.
The duergar with a crossbow seems to look around weighing her options. Looking back at Gideon, she bolts for the door. Just past the doorway, Rodalas and Mell watch as she vanishes from sight.
Gideon, you can make an attack of opportunity

Baldrick Longhall |

Warhammer (nonlethal): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 91d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Feeling a bit sorry for the duergar guards, Baldrick attempts to tap Yellow gently into unconsciousness. Unfortunately, he's a bit too gentle and ends up not doing any damage at all...

Rodalas Windrace |

He takes a shot at yellow
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 +1 shortbow
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 pokey damage
2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9 sneaky attack

Greycastle |

Well, between Gideon and Rodalas, I'm thinking yellow is going down, lol!
Gideon hit the now disappeared “olive” with an opportunity attack. Things do not seem to be going well for yellow though, you are correct.
Yellow seems to chuckle at Baldrick’s checked swing and then his expression moves to surprise as arrow pierces his neck and he falls to the ground, quite dead.
all visible enemies are dead, how do you wish to proceed?

Umikh Ironbender |

Loot the bodies! Oh wait, I play a nice guy now.
Everyone okay? Thanks for the healing, mate!
Walking around, We should check these bodies and see if they have anything of use to us. He points his axe down the hallway X4. Whadya reckon is through that door?

Baldrick Longhall |

Baldrick frowns, scratching his temple with his warhammer. Pointing to the the two corpses in front of him: "Weren't there five duergar in here?" Looking over the table and down the hallway toward Rodalas and Mellaina: "Anyone see an extra dwarf? I think we lost one..."

Mellaina "Mell" Kavron |

Mell replies to Baldrick, "I've been kind of busy with the four back here, but none ran back this way, if that's what you mean."
I never saw more than 4 up in your area, including the 2 enlarged ones, and then the 4 in the dip that Mell's wildfire spirit illuminated, and at least according to Greycastle's notes, those are all dead. I didn't double-check his work, though.

Baldrick Longhall |

There were five in the room -- two enlarged and three behind the table. The fifth one (olive) ran past Gideon then went invisible. If it went invisible before getting to the door, though, Rodalas and Mell might not have seen it, but certainly the four of us in the room (X3?) would have seen it.

Turquoise 'Turq' Barreltap AL |

Turq shrugs, I didn't count. Was too busy tryin' ta bury them.

Baldrick Longhall |

lol -- Gideon, you just took an AoO against the one that went invisible
Baldrick shrugs "Oh, I coulda... oh well, I suppose not. Let's carry on, yeah? I think we're all ok. Hey Rodalas, looks like you've got a little something on you." He points to a hole in the eladrin's armour that's slowly oozing blood.
Baldrick wasn't hurt, so he's ready to move on, maybe after quickly examining the rooms we've just emptied (X3 and X4), including the corpses.
Investigation: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13

Greycastle |

sorry, birthday weekend. One of the dwarves definitely has come up missing. Those in hallway could have missed it. Gideon would have been hard pressed to have missed it though, since he was the last to attack her.
Now that you've had a chance to look around, X3 is a relatively large room, dominated by this large table that has been tipped over. It probably took all of the dwarves here working in tandum to flip it. The room is heated and illuminated by braziers of glowing hot coals. Through the hazy smoke, you see featureless stone doors lining the walls.
Looking into the one room which has it's door open. You see a small room with bunk beds on each wall. This appears to be some sort of barracks.
For those of you who were there, X4 was seemed a little smaller but was also dominated by a large stone table in the center of the room. Simmilar lighting to the barracks seems to be used in that room as well.

Happy birthday!!
If we're still in initiative, Baldrick would have spent his round making conversation / beginning to investigate the bodies and room, per Umikh's suggestion.

Happy birthday!!

I added some things to my post you may want to go back to it. But yeah I figured you guys spent the rest of the round discussing. That's why I posted us as into round 5. Just wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to react before taking us out of combat.
The bodies had basic equipment on them and umong the bodies you find 65g and 10 silver and a small figurine carved out of a strange wood-like material of a female dwarf swadling a baby.

Baldrick Longhall |

Baldrick starts collecting and organizing items from the duergar, but luckily stops before he invests too much time into it, mumbling: "I guess we should come back for this stuff later..."
"Hey Umikh, whaddya think's behind these doors? More little rooms?"
We should at least open all these doors to make sure there aren't any surprises, but we can do a thorough search for goodies after we've cleared the rest of the fortress.

Turquoise 'Turq' Barreltap AL |

Int: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Turq shrugs and moves from room to room, helping to search. Perception or Investigation?
1d20 ⇒ 4 +5 for Perception, +0 for Investigation

Umikh Ironbender |

Umikh pockets a couple of coins he found, Bah, let's just take it now and go explorin'! Along with Turq and Baldrick, Umikh would help check rooms as we move along.
Perception if it's handy to have: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Random strength test for any heavy doors, no he doesn't check for traps, he's a dwarf: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Greycastle |

Rodalas looks around and listenes intently as the rest of you search the bodies and ajoining rooms.
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Some time passes and you are ready to proceed further when a dwarven voice is heard coming from the hallway before you. In a thick accent "Are ye quite done pickin from the dead of me kin?" a pause to make sure the speaker has your attention before they go on. "I let ye day dwaellers in fer purpose, ye aught to have thought it might've been a bit too easy to enter a fortress. Me mistress is interested in a talk with ye if you'd be so inclined, but if fightin is all yer about, let us have it out now. Make yer choice and lets be on with this."
With the echos of the hall, you're not sure exactly where the voice was coming from, and by your guess, the speaker knows this as well. Perhaps they planned for it to be as such.
What say you Mead Hall Irregulars?

Umikh Ironbender |

Well that took this dwarf by surprise. Not wanting to seem off his game, Umikh looks to the others, shrugs in a non-committal manner, Eh why not? he says low (and clearly to just the others, not speaking on behalf of).

Turquoise 'Turq' Barreltap AL |

Turq grumbles in a low tone, Me maw always said, ne'er trust a worshipper o' the betrayer. But then again, she always said to talk 'afore fightin'...
Then louder, he calls out to the voice, Ye folk sent the dragon... Why should we trust yer mistress?

Baldrick Longhall |

Baldrick looks at the bodies in dismay, whispering: "Oh no..."
"But... you attacked us? Why let us in and then...?"
Warring emotions, confusion, sadness, frustration, confusion -- mostly confusion. Not having Umikh's tact, Baldrick speaks a bit louder: "I say we meet with ... Mistress whoever, but we keep our guard up in case of another ambush."
Insight: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

Turquoise 'Turq' Barreltap AL |

Opting not to make an insight check. I figure it is nigh impossible to tell if a disembodied voice is lying or not...

Mellaina "Mell" Kavron |

Are these conversations happening in Dwarven or Common? Trying to figure out if Mell would understand any of it, since she speaks no Dwarven.
If Common, she'll say, "No harm in talking to this woman. At the least, we might learn a bit more about the layout of this place."

Greycastle |

If Common, she'll say, "No harm in talking to this woman. At the least, we might learn a bit more about the layout of this place."
The language was in common with a VERY thick accent.

Greycastle |

Rodalas - just based on voice alone, you can find no deception in the words.
When it seems the majority have agreed to meet the mistress, ”Down the hall and left. Don’t be leavin from that path.”

Baldrick Longhall |

Baldrick adjusts armour and shield, and with a spin of the warhammer, sets off into the corridor.
Arriving at the first intersection X4, his brow crinkles. Pointing into the room full of charred duergar, he looks up at Turq: "Left?"

Umikh Ironbender |

evens or odds, decide for me oh dice gods: 1d10 ⇒ 2
Looking around first to make sure we're all in line, Umikh, catching up to be behind Baldrick, says I think he means th' next door on the left. He motions over his shoulder way down the hall.
I scooched our tiles over.

Turquoise 'Turq' Barreltap AL |

Turq nods, I t'ink Mihkey has the right of it.
I am assuming that the voice sounded like it was coming from down the hall, further than the four-way intersection?

Greycastle |

As you move down the hall and approach the doors, they open smoothly at your approach.
Three braziers heaped with glowing hot coals illuminate and heat this long hall. At the eastern end is a hexagonal stone table surounded by six stone chainrs. Seated in the chair facing the door is a haggard old duergar with long black hair streaked with ribbons of white and fingernails like shards of iron. She is devouring a hearty buffet of cooked meats, mushrooms, and strange Underdark fare. Lurking next to her is a small mechanical dragon made of a familiar dark shiny substance.
Hunched over a hot stove in the west side of the room are three duergar cooks. At the sight of you, they drop thier utensils and reach for thier weapons, but the old duergar says something in Dwarvish that keeps them at bay.
Flanking the double doors on either side are two more duergar, these two are armed and watching you intently.

Turquoise 'Turq' Barreltap AL |

Turq nods slowly at the Duergar at the door, as if daring them to come at him, but when they do not, he regards the old lady warily though not without interest...

Baldrick Longhall |

Baldrick takes a few steps forward, addressing the old duergar: "Hello -- yes, what he said -- we're here, so now what? Are you and your dragons going to stop tearing up Good Mead and the other towns? Why d'you care about the Dale anyway when you've got this here mountain?"

Umikh Ironbender |

Umikh will make his way into the room as well, letting the conversation flow whilst looking around. (Which you already described, but just in case, perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10. LOL.)

Mellaina "Mell" Kavron |

Figuring the Dwarves are the best ones to take the lead here, Mell is silently supportive, looking around warily at the assembled Duergar.
Mell has 20 passive perception - but I can roll if you think it's needed.

Greycastle |

Shortly after the last of you enter, yet another dwarf walks in behind you, nodding at the lady dwarf. in common ”Am I correct in assumin’ that you are the ones responsible fer destroyin’ the dragon sent to Ten Towns?” the dwarf asks, pausing from her meal for a moment. Before you can answer however, she goes on assuming she was right. ”Well, I’ll be tha first to admit, the dragon was not a good idea but, you bein’ here just proves me point exactly. Xardorok has underestimated what you daywalkers can do. A now he’s gonna have ta pay the price.” she takes another dig at the food in front of her and after a few awkward seconds of chewing and swallowing she goes on. ”I’m not gonna stop you. An there’s those here in the fortress that will stand outa tha way while ya go fer the king. But that depends on what kind of deal we can make here.”
