Turq is up ahead with Gideon, trying to help, attempting to learn more about Survival skills after seeming to be out in the tundra plan more than he would like...

While they march south, Umikh asks Baldrick for a piece of the black substance to study for awhile. He's no wizard or scholar, but anything he can learn about it could help them.

Just flavoring, we've already done all the rolling on it before.

"Oh yeah, of course! I've hidden most of it at the forge, but here -- take a look at this!" Baldrick hands Umikh a chardalyn dragon claw.

"What do you think we'll find when we get ..." waves a hand generally in front of him "er... when we get there? I hope it's not an army of beardless dwarves, but another dragon-thing would be fun."

Mell hides a chuckle. She has no interest in fighting another 'dragon-thing' but isn't about to ruin Baldrick's fun. She decides it must be a male thing, as she'd heard her husband utter similar sentiments about creature's he'd hunted.

A wave of pain washes over her as a memory of Jeren skinning a caribou floods her mind. Eat another bite of the mammoth of grief, Mell. She keeps putting one foot in front of the other, shivering as a gust of wind passes by them.

"Among other things, I hope we find a nice, warm fire," she replies to Baldrick. "Even if we have to fight some of the beardless after that."

lol -- well, Baldrick just made an impossible shot, so he's still kind of hyped about it.

Baldrick looks slightly self-conscious as he pulls together the flapping edges of his coat, like he's just remembered that it's supposed to be cold: "Oh... uh, yeah -- a nice fire, certainly."

B has a magic item that protects him from the weather, similar to Endure Elements. Of course, to his mind, he's just gotten used to the cold after many months in the Dale.

"Some of the grå ... um ... gray ones, you know, they're not so bad. The turning invisible stuff ain't so nice, though. Da always kept his wares behind a locked door whenever we would tra..." Baldrick glances uncomfortably at his companions, realizing he's venturing into a potentially taboo topic. "*ahem* So what's Lonelywood like? I think that's the only town I haven't yet visited."

A few of us have similar magic keep-warm pieces, so while we look well-adjusted to the cold, eh maybe not so much.

Umikh, himself from a family who traded with all kinds of folks though not duergar, nudges Baldrick chummily and whispers Business is business, eh? But he does watch carefully to see what the new folks think if they even caught what Baldrick said.

Umikh takes pause to think about the many places they have visited so far. I shoulda kept a list!

I can't remember exactly, but I think we've spent most of our time in the southeast: Dougan's Hole, Good Mead, Easthaven, Caer Konig, and Kelvin's Cairn (dunno if we've spent any time in Caer Dineval, other than to pass through it). I think various individuals have been to some of the others (notably Bryn Shander), but as a group I don't think we've been there or the others (Targos, Bremen, Termalaine, Lonelywood).

Oh, let Baldy be however hyped up he wants to be. Mell is just glad the thing is dead.

Mell assumes Baldrick is talking about having traded with the Duergar. She doesn't really care, as she doesn't have any experience with them to be able to judge them, but wonders if maybe it's different for the other Dwarves.

"Lonelywood? It's a smallish town and the Lonelywood forest is nearby, so there are a lot of loggers in the area. It seems to attract a bit of a criminal element. My husband Jeren was serving as...well a peacekeeper of sorts, I guess you could call it. He wanted it to be a place where anyone who needed a clean start could get one without a lot of questions about their past, so long as they didn't cause trouble in the present. Unfortunately, that was easier said than done. Sometimes trouble from people's past would find them in the present, and then he would have to delve into topics they didn't want probed, and that generally didn't go over too well, though some people were, of course, more tolerant about his questions than others."

"I find the town itself to be quite picturesque, though. The forest breaks up all that monotonous white tundra. I love being in the forest away from the loggers when the weather is mild."

The party, working together finds its way to the relative location that Rodalas and Khitt had scouted before and seen the dragon. The spine of world is a treacherous place, and not a place to get lost in. Fortunately, you have a map that denotes the relative location of what you seek. Using the map helps you hone in further on your location and within the day, you find what could only be Sunblight. A fortress of dark stone built and carved into the side of a mountain.

Gideon take the time to thank Lathander for his assistance in helping the town recover and taking down the threats. He spends much time concentrating on the trail, and learning more about the land.

Umikh doesn’t think the two structures are related.

The left side of the fortress seems to have stairs weaving back and forth up toward the top. Thin lines of smoke can be seen whisking from a few hidden locations toward the top. You don’t see any guards but you’re sure there has to be someone on guard.

I can sneak ahead and ascertain their defenses. The more we know about this place, the sooner these foes shall fall the eladrin states/

Based on the angles of the stone cuts, the tools to do the work and the oily sheen to the masonary, Baldrick quickly surmised that this structure is definitely of Duergar construction.

"More information is always good. I'm afraid I'm too prone to trip over my own feet to sneak in... but will be ready to rush in when needed".

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 sneaky stealthy

Game Map DCI# 4318637857

busy week, sorry. :(

Rodalas moves up the stairwell with trained precision. No sound can be heard as he does so because the elf makes not one to be precieved. Once out of the party's immediate sight, the they must wait for a report for they see no trace of the eladrin either.

Rodalas, the climb takes a few minutes as you ascend toward the top of this fortress. An army would be exposed to multiple arrow slits from above and devastated if they were to try to use these stairs as an access. One elven figure though goes unnoticed. Once at the top you find a ten foot wide landing. A ten foot high double door of featureless stone sits in the fortress wall east of you. An arrow slit facing in your direction guards the approach.

Anything else you would like to do Rodalas? The way seems clear enough as long as the party tries to be stealthy. The party has knowledge that the dark dwarves vision is not so great in the daytime, so it would be best to approach then, even if it is only the dim gray light of the current sky.

RODALAS

He will go back and report what he has seen.

The party trudges forward, some more stealthy than others. After a considerable climb, not to mention dealing with the icy covered steps, you all arrive at the top of stairs once again. The massive door of the fortress… open?

As you crest the stairwell outside and look east, a large stone double door set in the northern wall stands open. Cautiously looking into the doorway, you see a short entry with a portcullis in the up positions and then opens into a small room with hallway on the opposite side of the room going either right or left. No light is lit in this room, but slight flickering of warm light can be seen reflecting off of the walls in the far hall way.
