It is almost as if the fireball distracted Turq causing the misstep to mess his Stealth up! XD

Mellaina "Mell" Kavron |

If I have Mell WildShape into an eagle, can she get to within visual range of the dragon (once it hits the ground) moving the eagle's fly speed of 60 feet? I'm assuming she can go up due to the hole in the roof, but not sure how much vertical movement she can have.
Also, I'm kind confused about the damage done during round 2. The dragon was at -143, then Mell did Cast Lightning for 18 damage, but the dragon made its save, so took half damage. Then Baldy misrolled the damage on Magic Missile, but I'm thinking the damage should be 2+4+2? (Since each missile does 1d4+1 damage, and he cast it at second level?). Then when we next see the dragon's damage, it's only -149. Shouldn't that be closer to -160?

Baldrick Longhall |

At first level, Magic Missile is three darts at 1d4+1. Casting at 2nd level adds one dart, so total damage would be 4d4 + 4
But yeah, wasn't keeping track. -143 + 1/2 Call Lightning + Magic Missile + Arrow = -174, I think, + hopefully fall damage

Mellaina "Mell" Kavron |

Ah yes, I didn't read the Magic Missile description closely enough. But your way is even better!
If flying creatures fall at 500 ft/round and they can do some stuff to mitigate their damage, it'll hopefully still not be enough to keep the dragon from a royal kersplat! Keeping my fingers crossed for big damage!

Greycastle |

@Mell From what I can tell I just messed up on the numbers. Not too big of a problem to need to rest con anything. The dragon did not survive the fall. Those of you rushing to chase the dragon will soon find this out. I’ll have a continuation post up here in the next few hours.

Mellaina "Mell" Kavron |

I know for me, I'm still waiting on some movement guidance before posting. If Mell WildShapes into, say, an eagle, I'm assuming she would have to factor in vertical movement into her 60 feet of allowed movement. So, something like 15 feet up, 30 feet horizontal, and 15 feet back down. Only I'm not sure how much height she'd need to get out of the Mead Hall - maybe with the shattered roof, she'd only need 10 feet, so I need a GM call for that.
Second, can movement to a square located diagonally from a character's starting square be counted as 5 feet of movement, or does it have to be 10 feet, based on 5 feet left or right and 5 feet up or down?

Greycastle |

correct, if as an eagle with a 60ft movement, you would be 60 up and over toward the location you want to go.
@Rodalas, you are after the Duergar.

Mellaina "Mell" Kavron |

Boo! She can't WildShape into a creature with a flying speed until 8th. OK, then, would the terrain inside the Mead Hall be considered difficult after the attack? I'm going to assume that it is and that if she takes the dash action, she can only move 30 feet.
Climbing gingerly over all of the fallen debris in the Mead Hall, Mell moves 30 feet most of it via diagonal movement, coming to a stop just behind Avendryl.

Greycastle |

would the terrain inside the Mead Hall be considered difficult after the attack?
yep, the yellow squares represented difficult terrain. Where you ended up is fine.
Baldrick moves toward the lake while Turq and Mell reposition.
Seeing the bleak outlook of this attack on Good Mead, the dark dwarf turns invisible and begins to run back into town. The reason you know which way he runs though is because his footsteps in snow betray him.
Umikh and Rodalas can go. Khitt, Aven, and Gideon are on deck.
you can currently tell where the dwarf is but targeted attacks have disadvantage. If the dwarf is allowed to get further back into town, it could get more difficult to locate him as his tracks blend in with the more trafficked areas.

Umikh Ironbender |

HP 55/64
Oh no you don't! Umikh takes off after him, following the tracks. It's a double move to get there.

Rodalas Windrace |

The eladrin will step out and fire, hopefully catching the gray dwarf in the ribs
2d20 + 9 ⇒ (19, 13) + 9 = 41 rolling twice with disadvantage
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 P if he hits

Gideon moves forward casting as he goes and tries to calculate where the dwarves movement takes him, before casting "Fairie Fire" on his retreating form.
Fairie Fire
Range/Area:
60ft./20ft.
Components:
V
Duration:
Concentration, up to 1 minute
Attack/Save:
DEX 14
Source:
PHB, pg. 239
Each object in a 20-foot cube within range is outlined in blue, green, or violet light (your choice). Any creature in the area when the spell is cast is also outlined in light if it fails a Dexterity saving throw. For the duration, objects and affected creatures shed dim light in a 10-foot radius.
Any attack roll against an affected creature or object has advantage if the attacker can see it, and the affected creature or object can't benefit from being invisible.

Greycastle |

Umikh runs up to where he believes the creature to be and Rodalas send an arrow directly over the dwarf’s head. Sneak Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 2) = 9 The dark dwarf falls to ground becoming visible. all enemies are dead , we are out of combat now
Baldrick rushes out onto the of the Red Waters in chase of the fallen dragon.
what else do you guys want to do?

Umikh Ironbender |

Search the bodies! Also see if any townsfolk need assistance. Then set about helping to rebuild the hall whilst discussing what the heck that dragon thing was.

Greycastle |

Did my arrow take it out?
Yes. Since Umikh based the invisible dwarf before you shot, I added your sneak attack damage to the attack and it made it enough to finish the dwarf off.

Mellaina "Mell" Kavron |

Mell calls out, "Let's check over the bodies for clues and valuables."
She herself follows Baldrick and heads for the fallen dragon. Once she finds it, she will inspect it for any kind of clue about its nature, or any valuables that can be foraged from its corpse.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Medicine roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Survival for skinning, if applicable: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Oof, icky rolls all around!

Baldrick Longhall |

Fascinated by the dragon, Baldrick goes over the body, trying to think how it came to be -- is this the same sort of creature as the corrupted animals we've seen in the past?
Arcana: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
As he did with the wolves, eagles, etc., Baldrick will also try to collect some intact pieces of chardalyn maybe the Help action will give Mellaina advantage on her roll? Otherwise, I can try Survival too (or maybe just cast Mending on any bits that Mell tears)
Lemme know if any other rolls are required here (Nature, Investigation, etc.?

Avendryl Silvermoon |

Avendryl follows the dwarven sorcerer and the druid to the body of the fallen dragon.
"Interesting..." he says, looking at the strange crystalline draconic form.
Arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Investigation: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Greycastle |

The dark dwarves did a surprising amount of damage in the short time that the attack took place. Several bodies are found dead in the more concealed areas of Good Mead, all with wounds consistent with the duergar weapons.
On the two corpses, you find a total of 20 gold coins and 10 silver. Nether one seems to be carrying anything to identify themselves though.
Over at the dragon, the party finds quite a mess and caution seems in order as you come upon the dragon’s crash site. You are quite a distance from shore and the pieces of the dragon have punctured the ice in various places. Broken chardalyn is scattered everywhere while the intact parts of the dragon are broken and also littering the ice. The skeletal frame of the creature seems to be made up of iron and you can see it exposed in many places.
As far as your knowledge of magic, some of you discuss the site and determine that only magic could have kept this constructs form together and allow it to fly. This is definitely not like the corrupted animals. This dragon was constructed.
Mell, for skinning purposes, the only thing on the creature resembling leather were the rubber like material of the wings. You are more than welcome to harvest this material and perhaps find a use for it another time.

Baldrick Longhall |

If possible, Baldrick will collect some larger bits of chardalyn for his collection -- maybe something like teeth, claws, or horns?
Baldrick mutters under his breath
"Do you suppose, if they made one of these, maybe there are more? I think we're going to have to stop these beardless before the Ten Towns suffers any more damage."

Umikh Ironbender |

If Umikh were standing next to Baldrick, he would totally agree. And when it comes up later he will concur that our next move should be to hunt down these beardless. He will repeat what the dead duergar said, that This is only the beginning. The people of this land will serve and bow to my king. We gotta find this "king".

Mellaina "Mell" Kavron |

Mell will harvest the material from the fake dragon's wings.
Let me know if some kind of survival roll is needed to handle being on the ice. Mell has pitons, if that can help.
She also finds herself agreeing with Baldrick. "Aye, I agree. Whatever these Duergar are up to, they need to be stopped."

Rodalas Windrace |

The once cheerful and joyful eladrin, even though he is sprngy and green, will be weeping as he helps to bury people, especially young people or the children's pets.

nah, no rolls needed. just description to give you guys the idea that the ice is really unsafe and crashed through.

Baldrick Longhall |

"Mellaina, I don't really believe in taking trophies, but do you think we should bring back a large-ish piece of the dragon (maybe its head?) so the townsfolk know this problem has been dealt with. At least, for now..."

Turquoise 'Turq' Barreltap AL |

Turq makes his way back to the group, Before the snows blow them over, maybe we can find out what direction they came up from, eh?
Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Mellaina "Mell" Kavron |

"Might be good to have some proof," Mell agrees. "And we could always dispose of it later. Unfortunately, all I have is a dagger, which I'm not sure is going to be enough to cut through the neck."
I'm willing to make a roll on this, since Mell has decent survival (+7). You wanna assist, Baldrick?
Survival, to cut off head: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
LOL. I can't roll above a natural 10 to save Mell's life!

Baldrick Longhall |

Baldrick will assist -- he has a couple of hand axes, but otherwise just a warhammer (although, if it's a metal construct, maybe that'll work better anyway).

Baldrick Longhall |

LOL well, since usually I'm the one who can't roll above a ten, I'm quite happy for you to take that mantle!

So dragon is getting carved up, at least a little. Helping the townsfolk recover, and at least getting the necessary clean up out of the way. Are there any tracks to follow? Like Turq said, that would be a good lead. Guess next is where the heck we going, do we leave now or after a short or long rest?
Also our DM is about to drive from Ohio to Wisconsin through icky weather, might be a day or two without updates. (Drive safe honey!)

Greycastle |

So did Gideon need to use his "Fairie Fire" spell or was the creature dead before he cast the spell"?
Gideon joins Rodalas in caring for the wounded, and giving last rites to those who have escaped the mortal coil.
The creature died before Gideon needed to expend the spell.

Using multiple implements between the hammer, axes, and even a little minor magic here and there, the group manages to sever the creatures head and drag it back to the shore of Good Mead. The darkness of night has settled by this time, but fires have been lit all over town. Luckily, the weather has been favorable and cleared up some.
Olivessa meets you at the shores, blood staining her clothes but she seems unharmed. ”Ye got the bastard! Good. These folk didn’t need this. It’s hard enough dealing with no sun, last thing we need is dragons knocking down houses and dwarves killin people in the streets.” She turns and looks back at the town shaking her head. ”We’re in yer debt once again… you truely are the heroes of Good Mead.” she pauses for a moment… ”What is it you all want to be called anyway? Nowa yer chance, otherwise yer stuck with whatever I call ya.”
This is it everybody. Time to decide on a name! We made some suggestions in the discussion thread a ways back. Take a look and come up with an answer or you’re gonna be stuck with the Khitt Khat Brigade!
Survival w Adv: 2d20 ⇒ (16, 14) = 30
As for tracks, Khitt and Khat do a perimeter sweep of the small town and manage to find two sets of dwarven tracks entering from the south.
we’re driving to pick up a new custom gaming table. When it gets set up, I’ll post a link to some pictures.

Umikh Ironbender |

Does anyone have that list of group names? I got a few pages back in the discussion thread and the site crapped out.

Greycastle |

south it is
Some of you clean up the dragon parts while others assist the Good Meadians in cleaning up the damage and wounded. A few hours pass when refugees from the settlement south of Good Mead come into town with a story of utter destruction. The dragon had attacked the smallest town in Ten Towns and from all accounts, there isn’t much left.
Olivessa does her best to welcome the refugees and after constructing a make shift wall to cover the hole in the mead hall, sets them up in the mead hall proper for lodgings.
The next morning after a “long rest” the party is preparing to head south. Unfortunately, Khitt is not able to join you. ”I’m heading to Easthaven, somebody needs to warn them that there may be more of these things coming. They can spread word to the other settlements. After that, I’ll try to catch up with you.“
Any last minute provision can be acquired in Good Mead before leaving.
this was yesterdays post that didn’t make it passed the posting monster that is paizo lol

Greycastle |

A storm rolled through over night and wiped much of the evidence of yesterdays attack away. Unfortunately, it also whipped the dwarves tracks heading south away as well. Rodalas is pretty confident though that they can get the group back to where, along with Khitt, they had spotted the dragon in the sky. That will hopefully get you close.
Traveling south for only an hour or so, you come across the remains of Dougan’s Hole. The storm dropping snow over the ruins paints a stark picture of a place that could have been toppled years ago even though it was only yesterday. The only things standing intact are the standing stones that can be seen a short distance away. Like strange motionless observers of the destruction that had occurred here. The stories they could tell of what the’ e seen over the centuries in which they’ve stood.
as we head south, can I get one of you (who ever is guiding this party) to give me a survival WIS (DC 13) roll with advantage.
