Woof, hopefully Lumen doesn't fall too!

Khitt |

Using inspiration, gonna roll for the bobcat as well Con w adv: 2d20 + 2 ⇒ (5, 3) + 2 = 10 Khat: 1d20 ⇒ 3 that’s about right Khitt and Khat both fall to the ground barely clinging to life. Only time and their companions actions will determine whether their story goes on or if it ends here on the icey lake.

Khitt |

This is a mean encounter :(
Mostly just terrible rolls.

Umikh Ironbender |

Holding my breath
CON check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
TPK! Not really but no bueno. I'll roll that first death save, too, just to have it. 1d20 ⇒ 3

Baldrick Longhall |

y'all are really going to be screwed if the only one left standing is the dwarf with 8 WIS

![]() |

Yeah, this is an Epic, so it makes sense that they would have some tough encounters, but this one is rough leaving everything for the dice to decide...

3rd level though to introduce a mob with an AOE single save or die ability is a little ridiculous. You don’t reach lethargic kind of spell ability until much later in the leveling process. Now granted, it’s 0 hps not dead and if we make these saving throws the fight is completely different. (Shrug)

Okay, I have an interesting thought... I believe that that leaves Rodalas and Baldrick awake... bear with me on this.
The banshee inspects her handywork and then her frozen gaze comes to rest on Rodalas... When she speaks, an unearthly chill runs up and down the survivors' spine, halting her spectral companion in his tracks...
After speaking, her arm held out to hold back her companion, the banshee seems to be awaiting an answer...

![]() |

Oops, forgot Rodney! Okay, doesn't change anything. We will wait for Rodalas to respond...

Rodalas Windrace |

Baldrick Longhall |

Not sure what he was supposed to be looking for, Baldrick was a bit transfixed, staring out at the blank whiteness of the snow on the frozen lake. As his friends start dropping to the ground, though, he spins around, his warhammer at the ready. But... is Rodalas talking to those creatures??
On the other hand, there doesn't seem to be an immediate threat, so Baldrick tries to see if he can revive any of his companions:
Medicine: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14

![]() |

I forgot to tell you that you all got the free potion of healing at the beginning of the module. This is the typical 'use-it-or-lose it' potion. So, Baldrick, you can use one of those, if you'd like.
The spectral elf-maid places her hands on the sides of Rodalas' face, flashes of images assail the Eladrin's mind... A man, dark skinned, covered in furs... he stands among the Standing Stones of Thruun outside of the Dougan's Hole... As if looking through her eyes, you see a madness in the man's eyes and spikes of earth are raised, piercing her and her party members... you feel pain... you see the dark-skinned man drag the bodies to a boat... rowing, rowing... he dumps them in the waters...
Then, with a swirl of snow and wind, they are gone... Your friends lie dying on the icy lake-top...

![]() |

I think you can get to everyone before they die. With judicious use, reviving the right people, you should be okay without rolls.

The eladrin might be able to pull our butts out of the fire. Here's to tryin', ryhmes with dyin'

Baldrick Longhall |

Khitt,Lumen,Netzer,Rodney,Umikh: 1d5 ⇒ 5
Dropping to his knees, Baldrick unstops his potion and begins dribbling it into Umikh's mouth: "C'mon buddy - it's just me and Roddy, and he's talkin' to the ghosts in that wispy language."
Healing Potion: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 2 = 5

Baldrick Longhall |

Baldrick probably heard Turq call Rodalas that and thought it was a nickname. Then again, Turq calls him 'Baldy', which nobody's ever done before...

![]() |

Hahaha, Turq is rubbin' off on you all! XD
Umikh gasps awake! He could have sworn that he heard the ring of hammer on anvil before being jerked back to the frigid reality of the Redwaters!

Umikh Ironbender |

Hush up, Roddy! Lolololol. What are friends for if not to give each other silly nicknames...
Umikh shakes sense into his head and looks around. Perception, cuz he doesn't know what's going on: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 He pops up, fumbling for his axe, Where'd they go, what's going on?
I was doing the check for flavor, but ha maybe he thinks he sees something and takes off after it?

![]() |

As Umikh frantically looks around, a blast of wind and snow blows through and he only can see Baldrick standing over him, no sign of his other companions! The snows abate slightly, and the dwarf warrior can make out the other forms of his friends starting to stir, as the lithe form of Rodalas moves from one to another administering a healing potion...

Jumping forward in time a little...
Gathered in the warmth of the Speaker's cabin, you all reflect on the near death experience that a majority of you just witnessed... Speaker Edgra Durmoot looks at your bedraggled forms with the sympathetic look of a former adventurer, What happened out there?
You all can take a Short Rest here, and gain an additional 1d6 ⇒ 5 hit points if you burn at least one hit die. Feel free to discuss what happened...

Potion of Healing: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4) + 2 = 7
It's cold, so cold. Why is death so cold? Shouldn't I be in a field of flowers under a warm sun when I pass to the other side? And is that a dwarf voice I here? OH NO, It's cold and Dwarves....I am in a dwarf hell!!
Then his eyes flash open and he sees that he is laying on a frozen lake with Umikh hovering over him.
"Oh thank the gods I am only on a frozen lake." he blurts out.
Rodney then starts to cast healing word on those still down.
Healing word to anyone: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Back at the cabin Rodney sings a sweet soft soft song to calm everyone's nerves and heal their frozen harts.
Song of rest: 1d6 ⇒ 6
And he spends one hit die in healing (5) that puts him at full

Umikh Ironbender |

Hit die: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 + 13 from the bard, thanks!
Umikh shares, Only thing I saw was some ghostly white snow people, looked at me and then I saw my creator! He shivers, wrapping a blanket around his form, unsure if he'll be warm again.

The last thing you remember before your heart stopping was that godawful scream... Not merely a look.

![]() |

I will take that healing Rodney, gets me half way
healing potion: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 = 7
well there I was following along and getting a terrible view because of Baldrick's hair flopping all around and I spotted these really white glowing snow flakes floating and then there was this terrible scream and the next thing instead of snow flakes I am lying on my back with most the group around me staring at the stars. Boy I sure did appreciate seeing them as it tasted a bit like death for a minute there Netzer said as he then listened to others tales.

Khitt |

Khitt coughs up some of the healing potion reflexively and then clears his air way still consuming the magic of the tincture. 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9
Looking at around, seeing everyone else seems attended to, the goblin reaches out to revive Khat. Cure wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Back at the cabin, Khitt listens quietly while reflecting on his morning so far.

Baldrick Longhall |

HD: 1d6 + 2 + 5 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 5 + 6 = 18
Speaker Edgra Durmoot looks at your bedraggled forms with the sympathetic look of a former adventurer, What happened out there?
Standing stiff and straight, Baldrick salutes the Speaker: "We suspected the druid might have been attacked by nekro.. - *ahem* that is, the undead. When we got out on the lake, everyone just sort of fell over. And then... and then..." He looks quickly over at Rodalas, before continuing uncomfortably: "er... that is, I'm not sure what happened next."

Lumen Oakleaf |

From what I can tell, I need to use my potion to recover at the lake.
Healing potion: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 = 8
Lumen opens his eyes and stares at the sky. He slowly sits up, looking around to see if the spirits are still around. "What was that? That scream really made my head hurt. Does anyone need any healing?"

Baldrick Longhall |

Yeah, sorry - I didn't know who was capable of healing (and Baldrick probably wouldn't have known either). I picked a random character and ended up giving Baldrick's potion to Umikh (which, now that I think of it, is probably who Baldrick would have picked anyway...)

Umikh Ironbender |

OK so we can assume we hear about what Rodalas says...
...question, is this the same druid we are helping (or trying to help) these towns prepare for? I think not, but it's worth an ask.
So...a dark-skinned bloke in furs near the Standing Stones of Thruun. And those are where exactly? he asks turning to their host.
After the reply, Umikh will probably help encourage the group to cautiously go search there.

![]() |

It's the giant stones just outside of town. It is sacred to the druids, built by giants or something... Edgra says thoughtfully. Perhaps you can find some clues there.

Rodalas Windrace |

When he gets the chance to, in a private place, he will tell the party what he discovered from the banshee.

Baldrick Longhall |

Baldrick stands and stretches: "Wellll, I feel much better after that rest and some quiet music. Let's see what's out by the stones!"
