Brental Fenson |

Well yes, actually! That is the plan!
Among others...

Hyalinnea "Lina" Kyrithra |

Just noticed, is there a reason Meneas wouldn't be joining the AoO-palooza that I'm missing?
Also, I think we still have three kingdom turns to work through, so if anyone feels like taking the next one on, have at it! :)

Brental Fenson |

* * * Kingdom Turn Sequence #9: Pharast * * *
Oh my, our last kingdom turn sequence was almost two and a half months ago! Let's check in and see how we're doing in Quarter 4.
It might help us to keep track of the kingdom a little better if we have a map like the one I posted before hosted somewhere other than Roll20. I'm not sure from memory alone which hexes we have based on the map. Based on previous turns, we have:
One place I distinctly remember is Davik Nettles' Crossing. Since we repaired a bridge last turn, let's fix the next one this turn. No Hasturian drownings in our kingdom because of bad bridges!
* * * Kingdom Turn Sequence 10: Gozran * * *
Starting Treasury: 19 BP
Upkeep Phase
Stability Check, DC 31: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (18) + 21 = 39
No change in Unrest (BP +1 = 20)
Pay Consumption (0)
Narratively: Spring has sprung in Helikia! It's still a bit cool, but the people in the burgeoning kingdom seem confident in their decision to take up with the diverse folk. A place in which humans, elves, fey, kobolds, and more (especially to come) can work and live together holds great promise, and Helikia shows no signs of stopping!
Edict Phase
Claim Hexes (1): Nettles' Crossing Hex (-1 BP = 19, Plains Hex, River)
Which takes us up to the next Kingdom Size! Not this turn, but starting next turn, we can claim 2 hexes per turn. Starting this turn, we can build 2 buildings and make 3 terrain improvements. So we're gonna push it!
Build Terrain Improvements (3)
Roads & Bridges: Nettles' Crossing, Plains River Hex (-2 BP = 17)
Farm: Nettles' Crossing Hex (-2 BP = 15)
It's tempting to turn this into a Watchtower, but that costs 12 BP and I have other things I want to do this turn.
With 6 hexes containing rivers, our economy currently has a +1 (I believe listed in the Other cell (AM12:AN12)). 2 more and that will increase to +2 and our Stability will increase by +1. If this is coming from something else, please let me know and we can adjust.
Create and Improve Settlements (2)
I hear you on the Granary or Noble Villa, but (with a bit of metagaming in mind), we eventually have need of a jail. I know that, in the moment, we said that we didn't have it. But the Jail gives a boost to both Loyalty and Stability of +1 for the low, low price of 14 BP.
House (3 BP, first House per turn doesn't count vs. building limit)
Dance Hall (4 BP, Economy +1, Loyalty +2, Unrest +1, Corruption +1, Crime +1)
Jail (14 BP, Loyalty +2, Stability +2, Unrest -2, Crime -1, Law +1)
And with 17 lots, that makes us a CITY!
-6 BP looks scary, but we have yet to collect taxes.
Holiday: Currentseve (informal)
Narratively: As the rivers thaw, the rulers of Limen continue to work on connecting all the parts of their growing realm to expand both trade and safety. Remembering Davik Nettles' Crossing, they send out a crew to make the bridge safe again. A small statue is erected with a plaque commemorating the man as someone who stood up against tyranny to the very last. And with the Stag Lord and his cronies dead, banished, or converted to the cause of Helikia's security, the Shrike, Thorn, and Skunk Rivers are now fully open for trade! Within a few weeks, a family has taken up residence on the land with the assurance that they will be able to take modest tolls, especially while they develop a farm in the nearby fields fed by the Shrike.
Back in Limen, the town continues to grow. It's a bit under-populated as far as a city is concerned, with fewer than a thousand people living within the city walls (and another fourteen hundred or so outside of it claiming allegiance and paying taxes), but it's still positive growth. Although the weather is warming, people still need a happy place to come and relax. After a poll of the populace, Signy proposes building a dance hall near the tavern. Ever the pragmatist, Kesen counter-proposes a jail near the barracks just in case someone is getting too drunk to handle themselves and needs to sleep it off without breaking windows or getting into fights. The compromise is that both are built, to the growing chagrin of Treasurer Kavken.
Jhod suggests that the Kingdom of Helikia celebrate Taxfest and the rest of the Councillaughs and laughs and laughs. It's not that Limen doesn't collect taxes, but rather that they have by now earned a reputation among our growing citizenry of pouring almost every copper collected back into the kingdom itself. Instead, recognizing that we are in the thick of the river kingdoms, we have a more solemn day of offerings to Gozreh: She Who Guides the Winds and the Waves. Although Brental is not a devout Gozran, any druid worth their salt pays proper deference to this dualistic deity. Jhod bristles a bit but recognizes that he is the treasurer rather than the high priest and that Brental is insistent on a polytheistic culture.
Income Phase
Collect Taxes, Economy Check: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (14) + 25 = 39
13 + 4 BP from the mines & sawmill = +17 BP = 11 BP
Narratively: The bet that the people of Limen have confidence in their leadership is borne out. While the coffers are less full than the beginning of the month, the open roads and bridges provide for marvelous trade. Helikia is becoming a model little kingdom where people (generally) feel safe to travel and trade. Taxfest comes and goes without incident and without much grumbling, and certainly no Abadarans breathing down anyone's necks.
Event Phase
Event <75: 1d100 ⇒ 99 No event, chance --> 75% next turn
Ending Treasury: 11 BP
Ending Unrest: 0
I was definitely aggressive this time, but I think it was worth it!
---
And Brental is going to continue his mapmaking projects:
Pharast
Profession (cartographer) Week 35: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 1 = 26
Profession (cartographer) Week 36: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 1 = 12
Profession (cartographer) Week 37: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 = 28
Profession (cartographer) Week 38: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 1 = 26
Profession (cartographer) Week 39: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 1 = 16
Gozran
Profession (cartographer) Week 40: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 1 = 21
Profession (cartographer) Week 41: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 1 = 21
Profession (cartographer) Week 42: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 = 28
Profession (cartographer) Week 43: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 = 28
26 + 12 + 28 + 26 + 16 + 21 + 21 + 28 + 28 = 206 / 2 = 103, for a total of 357 extra gp.
Starting in Desnus, with a Productivity modifier of +2 instead of +1, I might make even more! Just a little more, though.
By my accounting of it, Desnus will have five weeks' worth of Profession checks, while we'll close out Sarenith with 4, for a total of 52 weeks.
It's not necessarily intentional, but with the pace of change in Helikia, Brental's old maps quickly become out of date. Rather than trying to sell people entirely new maps, he hires a few younger Limenites interested in learning the trade to make adjustments to the maps that people bring in. This turns out to be incredibly profitable, and the lads and lasses under Brental's wing are running around with pockets fill of extra silver by the time spring rolls around.

Meneas the Cowl |

Speaking of fey DR and thus thinking of Meneas' cold iron dueling sword, he did want to get it enchanted way back when he went to Oleg's with Signy. Is it possible that that's been able to happen, or is he still waving around the finely crafted but not magical weapon?

Brental Fenson |

I haven't been keeping track of our loot for a while (since the end of Book One, it looks like). I might need to go back through the thread to see if we've gotten anything else recently...

Brental Fenson |

Looking through the material from Book 2, I can only find that we have gotten one item of loot so far: the 2000 gp diamond collar from the worg, Howl of the North.
It took two weeks to set up the festival, and although we haven't been tracking everything else (travel, downtime, etc.), it's probably been at least a month since we opened up with the attack by Kundal. We most likely have all of the items that we ordered from Oleg's.
Based on my accounting Last August, we had:
Meneas: 6472.38 gp
Signy: 7036.28 gp
Brental: 6305.90 gp
Lina: 6427.96 gp
Following the purchase of the keelboat (3000 gp) and the specialized healer's satchel (3000 gp).
I indicated in October that I would be picking up a Dire Collar (1000 gp) and a Ring of Eloquence (3500), which brings me down to 1805.90 gp, but I'm eyeing the next items on my wish list.
@Rackal: Have we gotten any other loot during the book so far that I missed? I feel like we would have gotten something else by now, maybe with the Nausicaa?

Meneas the Cowl |

To clarify when Meneas' Knave's Banner applies - it's when his shield is out (as it has his heraldry on it) or he has a banner that has his heraldry on it as well. In other words, "usually."

Hyalinnea "Lina" Kyrithra |

I checked my files. I haven't added the hex from the turn Brental just rolled, but for keeping a map handy, I've put it here.
I might get started on the next kingdom turn later this afternoon, unless anyone else wants it.

Brental Fenson |

That's amazing, Lina! Thank you.
I definitely don't mind if you take the next kingdom turn.
I'm avoiding it right now, because in the story of the previous year we haven't been there yet, but when we next claim hexes in the main current story we could/should start expanding down a bit south towards the lizardfolk of the Nausicaa. Since Brental is the new chief, officially adding them to Helikia seems like a good idea.

Hyalinnea "Lina" Kyrithra |

* * * Kingdom Turn Sequence 11: Desnus * * *
Starting Treasury: 11 BP
Upkeep Phase
Stability Check, DC 32: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (17) + 19 = 36
0 Unrest, so BP +1
Pay Consumption (0)
Narratively: As spring edges into summer, the first planting gets done, and the days get warmer, the spirits of everyone in town also lift. There's a lot to be done, but the time is right for folks to just get into it and enjoy themselves too.
Edict Phase
Claim Hexes (2): Fairy Nest Hex, Hidden Cache (-2 BP, Forest +River Hex, Plains Hex )
Build Terrain Improvements (3)
Roads: Fairy Nest Hex (-4 BP), Hidden Cache (-1 BP)
Farms: Hidden Cache Hex (-2 BP)
Left to her own devices, Lina would probably go all in for claiming more of the woods, but especially with everyone else to remind her, something easier to prepare for cultivation is also an idea.
Narratively: It’s about time, given how far the more adventurous (or elven) homesteaders have extended into the Narlmarches, for Helikia to anchor its presence in the forests around the stretch of the Thorn near where Lina and the others first met Tyg and Peri. The witch makes doubly sure that the roads here aren’t too obtrusive, and that they avoid certain trees, rocks, and interesting rings of mushrooms. Before even thinking about opening the area up for silviculture, she’s going to triple-check with Brental and their fey friends about how that could be done responsibly.
Create and Improve Settlements (2)
Granary (-12 BP, +1 Loyalty, +1 Stability, if farms reduce Consumption below 0, store up to 5 BP for turn with Treasury deficit)
City walls (-2 BP, 1 district side)
Narratively: With the seasons turning towards summer, in hopes of making sure there’s enough of a store to keep everyone comfortable through leaner times, and with a shrewd mercantile, managerial eye (her father would be so proud!) towards mitigating the risk that an enterprising farmer might be tempted to sell off their yield before being accurately assessed for a fair tax rate, Lina thinks making sure a granary is built before the harvest is a very good idea.
With some thought to security offered by the barracks and new jail, Meneas also suggests that thinking ahead to some defensive fortifications might be an idea, what with the constant threat of bandits and the unrest in Brevoy. Seeing who signs up for work crews might also help identify good candidates for an eventual militia.
Ideally, I would have loved to build a Trade Shop to represent Zuki’s shop, but that would be pushing our Economy very hard indeed. Depending on how much space we want to leave for future expansion, we might want to split our building allowance between walls and actually fun stuff for the next few turns?
Holiday: N/A, officially, but…
Narratively: One gets all sorts in the River Kingdoms, and so, while there’s not much call to boost the festival for the whole city, not least because Irori and his cousin are much more … disciplined than Lina, she is thrilled to be introduced to the Azvadeva Dejal by a bookseller of Vudrani origins passing through. A holiday celebrating knowledge and involving the offering of books as gifts is something that very much interests the witch.
She wonders if that sort of exchange could be introduced to the Ritual of Stardust that she’s already started to plan for the solstice next month. While it’s better known as a Desnan celebration, Lina knows it as a time to honour Yuelral, given the role of gems in the rite. She makes sure to contact the Sootscales to make sure they keep the dust from any gems they cut in the interval, and to invite them to the occasion.
Income Phase
Collect Taxes, Economy Check: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (7) + 25 = 32
10 + 4 BP from the mines & sawmill - all expenditures = 3 BP going forward
Narratively: While the warmer weather allows for more projects to take off, it also means there's a lot more to keep track of and pay out, and the treasury starts to echo a bit. Jhod hasn't had quite had a heart attack yet, but he does ask, as politely as is in his nature, Lina and the council to maybe consider slowing down a bit and budgeting more carefully. The town and the fields, after all, aren't about to up and leave on them, he suggests.
Event Phase
Event <75: 1d100 ⇒ 18 Chance --> 25% next turn
Which is...: 1d100 ⇒ 10 a beneficial kingdom event. Yay!
Namely: 1d100 ⇒ 89 New subjects! +1 Society, +1 Stability, + 1d6 ⇒ 1 BP Oh, well isn't that interesting.
Narratively: Again, all sorts of people pass through the Shifting Lands, and Lina and her friends are trying very hard to make sure that Helikia is the sort of place that welcomes anyone of good heart. So, as the realm establishes itself, the witch is used to meeting unfamiliar faces in the streets, at the market, or riverbank.
What she is not used to is the unruly procession that bursts into Limen's city hall one evening late in Desnus, a chorus of shrill voices demanding, in Sylvan, to be introduced to the Lady Lina at once. To the discomfiture of the town clerks swept up in its wake, a small crowd of sprites and other fey bursts into the council chambers - Lina's pretty sure that she spots at least one anhana and a gerbie - before things settle down enough for a conversation in which it emerges that the care with which the most recent stretch of the fey-haunted woods to the northwest is being explored has attracted a group of fey curious enough about these polite mortals to be willing to settle among them, at least for a time.
As the unearthly new citizens insist on presenting their compliments, and a growing pile of gifts ranging from flowers, to brownie gold, to shards of gemstone heaved up with difficulty and pride by a stubborn sprite, Lina hears the familiar giggle of a certain faerie dragon observing invisibly from somewhere in the rafters.
Since we just claimed the appropriate hex, I couldn't resist. Jhod and Kesten are gonna go nuts. ;)
Ending Treasury: 4 BP

Brental Fenson |

You got a potion of cure serious wounds, a large set of leather armor, a large +1 keen trident, 5 large javelins, and two gold armbands worth 100 gp each from the lizard king.
Awesome, thank you, Rackal! I added those to the loot sheet.
I'm assuming that we sold everything except for the potion (which went into the party's medkit). That means that we have:
Meneas: 7711.13 gp
Signy: 8275.03 gp
Brental: 3044.65 gp
Lina: 7666.71 gp
What items did people purchase from their wish lists?
---
What a fun turn, Lina! I love it!
I have recently been reading more of Golarion's lore regarding the origins of the elves (natives of nearby planet Castrovel), along with the First World!
It's a fair bet that Brental doesn't know any of this, but polyfrequencies wanted to share some interesting things as the First World gets more involved.
The Material Plane was created by primordial deities as a complex receptacle and testing ground for souls, as part of a larger process to distribute positive energy between gods and planes of the Outer Sphere. The First World is a predecessor of the Material Plane, created as a first draft of a Material Plane and then directly overwritten by the plane as it exists today. It exists outside the standard cosmology, being considered "behind" the other two planes.
The First World also serves as a conduit of new souls from the Positive Energy Plane toward the Ethereal and Material planes, a process that also creates new fey from the soul energy left in their wake. While the souls are unaligned at creation, they gain some of their earliest traits from their journey through the First World. However, the inhabitants of the First World are themselves blocked from the River of Souls, making its inhabitants effectively immortal. When a native of the First World "dies", their energy simply returns to the First World. None of the plane's souls can exit the First World, nor do new souls enter it.
Little is known about the history or creation of the The Shadow Plane, however, except for speculation that it may have been created to balance the First World and allow the Material Plane to thrive. Those who have written about it say that it seems to be a warped reflection of the former. All beings born on that plane have their colors, sounds, tastes, and all other forms of perception lessened. It is often associated with undeath, but many mortal beings live there as well.

Meneas the Cowl |

I've wanted to play a Castrovelian elf for awhile, but haven't ever had the chance.

Brental Fenson |

I think that I have played, like, two Pathfinder elves ever, and never on these boards. (I've played a 1E twilight arcanist trying to claim enough souls to resurrect his dead older brother, and a 2E druid based on Goethe's Erlkönig who was ex-lovers with Krampus and had to go rescue Santa from Krampus' nefarious plans.) I've played several half-elves, but very few full-blooded elves. Maybe I'll get around to it on a more extended basis one of these days.

Signy Birkirsdottir |

My wish list: A big stack of fey bane arrows. I joke, kinda. Maybe a few.
I should get Signy's sword enchanted. Signy benefit from a belt of dex too. And a headband of inspired wisdom.

Brental Fenson |

I had the headband and belt on your wish list already. Check the second tab of the loot sheet.
+1 fey-bane arrows will be about 166 gp (and change) a pop. How many do you want? Again, you have 8275 gp to have spent before this most recent outing.

Hyalinnea "Lina" Kyrithra |

Thanks for figuring out the shares from the latest loot, Brental!
Also, Lina just took Craft Wondrous Item, so as folks try to plan out their next purchases, bear in mind that she'd be happy to build some stuff in-house. :)

Brental Fenson |

I had completely forgotten about Lina's new feat! And of course, as it turns out, most of the items on our respective wish lists are wondrous items! That's going to cut our likely current expenditures by about 40%!
I have resorted the wish list on the loot sheet by the cost of items including our witch queen discount.
Meneas and Signy: can you please declare which items you ordered and retrieved from Oleg's here so that we can continue to track things accurately? If it was a wondrous item, then it's probably up to Rackal and Lina (and Lina's Spellcraft rolls) whether you could have gotten it crafted by Lina instead for a reduced cost.

Meneas the Cowl |

I believe that Meneas wanted to get his sword enchanted to +1, but I'm not sure of how practical ordering that in is.
Other than that... I'd say he'd probably buy two potions of cure moderate wounds, for 600 gp, and a shield cloak with his heraldry (solid black lined with white on the edges, for those curious). That'd be 1000 gp.
Other than that... I can't think of anything else he'd spend money on at the time.

Brental Fenson |

Rackal gave us two weeks of downtime between returning from the Nausicaa mission and the festival, so I think it's decently practical to have had your sword enchanted.
Restov (a large city and therefore with a likely base value of at least 8kgp) is about 100 miles away. New Stetven (a metropolis with a likely base value of at least 16kgp) is about 130 miles away. Mivon is only 90 miles away (base value 4kgp per Guide to the River Kingdoms), and Pitax is 140 miles away (base value 4kgp Guide to the River Kingdoms).
As long as Meneas wouldn't have thrown a fit being without his sword, crafting a magic weapon takes 1 day per 1,000 gp in cost (so 4 days for your cold iron weapon).
Slow shipping (on a cart or wagon) would be 16 miles per day, while a more expedited solo rider would be 28 miles per day. Either way, figure 5 and a half days to Mivon or 6 days to Restov, 4 days of crafting, and then a return trip back to you.
If we're being honest, all but 1738.75 gp of your most recent accounting has been acquired recently (leaving you with 5972.38 gp in the year leading up to the start of Book 2). I think it's reasonable to figure that you got the dueling sword enchanted during our year of kingdom building and running.
On the Wish List, you had the Shield Cloak marked as enchanted as well, for 2,000 gp. You could have gotten that as well.
(I assume that, since you didn't mention them, you're holding off on the Headband of Alluring Charisma +2 and the Clandestine Horseshoes also on your list.)
Personally, I'd hold off on purchasing those potions. We currently have in the party's collective medkit:
1 Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds
1 Potion of Cure Serious Wounds
58 charges (on 2 wands) of Cure Light Wounds
8 charges of a Healer's Kit (and a specialized Healer's Satchel that makes the healer's kit redundant unless we have a mass casualty situation)
3 Potions of Lesser Restoration
1 Potion of Shield of Faith (+2)
1 Potion of Remove Paralysis
It's up to you, of course. Let me know your final decisions.
---
Also, Lina, since a lot of the stuff on Brental's wishlist requires specifically-druidic abilities, we should be able to use the cooperative crafting rules for him to provide the appropriate spells, skills, and abilities. Those could also be some very fun posts to write!

Meneas the Cowl |

Yeah, holding off on those things for now, and we can take off the healing potions since we've got a fair amount of healing available.

Brental Fenson |

Okay! I'll mark you down for the +1 cold iron aldori dueling sword and the +1 shield cloak for 6,000 gp!
Aaaand you now have both on the loot sheet with 1711.13 gp to spare.
---
Edit: I wanted to see how we're all doing on the so-called Big Six items (which is actually usually seven or eight, but who's counting?) (me, I'm counting).
Amulets of Natural Armor: Lina +2, Signy +1
Armor: Brental +2, Lina +1, Meneas +1
Belts: None
Cloaks of Resistance: None
Headbands: None
Rings of Protection: Meneas +2
Shields: Meneas +1
Weapons: Brental +1 Flaming, Lina Masterwork, Meneas +1 Cold Iron, Signy +1 Ranged and +1 Melee, Vodnykel Masterwork Cold Iron
(Brental, Lina, and Signy also have cold iron backup weapons, and Lina and Meneas have backup silver weapons.)
So if anyone is looking to flesh out your wish list, +1 armor and shields are 1000 gp, +1 cloaks are 1000 gp, +1 amulets and rings are 2000 gp, +1 weapons are 2000 gp, and +2 belts and headbands are 4000 gp.
And with our glorious witch queen, may she reign forever, a lot of that is even cheaper!

Meneas the Cowl |

Alas, I can't grab a cloak of resistance, as I have my shield cloak. Might eventually try grabbing some stealth-enhancing gear, but that's a future thought.

Brental Fenson |

* * * Trumpets * * *
Dun dah nah nah!
You can technically (have Lina) craft a Shield Cloak of Resistance, but it'll get pricey. And Lina will only be able to improve the resistance factor, not the AC factor.
If the item is one that occupies a specific place on a character’s body, the cost of adding any additional ability to that item increases by 50%. For example, if a character adds the power to confer invisibility to her ring of protection +2, the cost of adding this ability is the same as for creating a ring of invisibility multiplied by 1.5.
The Resistance bonuses to saves and Enhancement bonuses to AC (shield) scale at the same rate, so you can basically just pick one to be the extra (in this case it'll probably be the resistance).
+1 Shield = 1000
+1 Resistance = 1500
+1 Shield Cloak of Resistance = 3500
+2 Shield = 4000
+2 Resistance = 6000
+2 Shield Cloak of Resistance +2 = 11000
+3 Shield = 9000
+3 Resistance = 13500
+3 Shield Cloak of Resistance +3 = 23500
+4 Shield = 16000
+4 Resistance = 24000
+4 Shield Cloak of Resistance +4 = 41000
+5 Shield = 25000
+5 Resistance = 37500
+5 Shield Cloak of Resistance +5 = 63500
However, if Lina sews in the flecks of silver and/or steel into the cloak later on so that you get the 50% discount on the resistance component, then the calculation gets wonky.
Base Shield Cloak = 1000
+1 Shield = 1000
+1 Resistance = 1500 / 2 = 750
+1 Shield Cloak of Resistance = 2750
+2 Shield = 4000
+2 Resistance = 6000 / 2 = 3000
+2 Shield Cloak of Resistance +2 = 8000
+3 Shield = 9000
+3 Resistance = 13500 / 2 = 6750
+3 Shield Cloak of Resistance +3 = 16750
+4 Shield = 16000
+4 Resistance = 24000 / 2 = 12000
+4 Shield Cloak of Resistance +4 = 29000
+5 Shield = 25000
+5 Resistance = 37500 / 2 = 18750
+5 Shield Cloak of Resistance +5 = 44750
Base Shield Cloak = 1000
+1 Shield = 1500
+1 Resistance = 1000 / 2 = 500
+1 Shield Cloak of Resistance = 3000
+2 Shield = 6000
+2 Resistance = 4000 / 2 = 2000
+2 Shield Cloak of Resistance +2 = 9000
+3 Shield = 13500
+3 Resistance = 9000 / 2 = 4500
+3 Shield Cloak of Resistance +3 = 19000
+4 Shield = 24000
+4 Resistance = 16000 / 2 = 8000
+4 Shield Cloak of Resistance +4 = 33000
+5 Shield = 37500
+5 Resistance = 25000 / 2 = 12500
+5 Shield Cloak of Resistance +5 = 51000

Hyalinnea "Lina" Kyrithra |

I think I vaguely remember – and I don’t think we have the budget to make it a rush to look it up, though it’s the sort of nonsense that appeals to that weird bean-counting side of me – rules for chaining creation costs to design ever more complex Swiss-army-knife magic items. I seem to recall worked examples for some weird ones, maybe from the 3.5 Magic Item Compendium or something?
Also, Lina, since a lot of the stuff on Brental's wishlist requires specifically-druidic abilities, we should be able to use the cooperative crafting rules for him to provide the appropriate spells, skills, and abilities. Those could also be some very fun posts to write!
Oh, absolutely. The sheer number of entertaining ways things could go amusingly pear-shaped! Not least because technically we don’t need to meet those prerequisites for the most part, I imagine.
*Lina walks on, very obviously having narrowly avoided setting her hair on fire.*
“OK, so, it turns out moonwort can’t substitute for king fern seed – and yes, I know – but, I’m pretty sure cinnamon fern can, like the saying goes, ‘Five grains of fern seed!’”
*Brental’s worried brow furrows.* “How sure is ‘pretty sure?’ How would that even work?”
*Lina, breezily:* “Oh, that was only an example. The actual conversion calls for FIVE POUNDS OF FERN SEED!”
XD
(With apologies to the Principia Discordia.)

Meneas the Cowl |

Due to computer issues, my availability over the next week may be limited. Apologies, but I'll try to make sure I can get things back to normal as quickly as possible.

Signy Birkirsdottir |

Sorry if I've held things up in any way. I caught a cold early last week that absolutely flattened me. I'm still recovering, but back to posting at least.

Brental Fenson |

Sorry to hear, Signy.
When you have a chance, can you confirm what you're purchasing with 8275 gp?
(I.e., what would you have purchased prior to coming on this trip?)

Signy Birkirsdottir |

The most immediately beneficial things would be the Belt of Dexterity and the Tankard of the Drunken God. To the my full Dex bonus to AC I'd also need to switch the leather lamellar armor for a chain shirt.
The total on all that would be 4,750 using Witch Queen prices.

Brental Fenson |

Cool cool. Lina will probably need to make some Spellcraft rolls. She doesn't have most of those spells, especially for the Tankard, so that might be a high DC (DC 28 if my math is correct).
However, Meneas has a potion of remove fear that could provide one of the components to reduce the DC to 23. And then Brental could provide the cat's grace to reduce it to DC 18. We're only missing animate rope and heroism from that list. With her +12 in Spellcraft, it's not a gimme, but it's pretty damn good!

Meneas the Cowl |

Meneas would be happy to donate his potion to this cause.

Hyalinnea "Lina" Kyrithra |

Lina's got a scroll of heroism, actually, I just haven't got around to scribing the spell into her grimoire. I also don't mind checking if we can get scrolls of animate rope and remove fear, so that Meneas can hold on to his potion, which might come in handy when we need something that's not a spell-completion version.
I think the rule is that stuff within a settlement's purchase limit has a 75% chance of being available? Sooo, aiming to roll low...
Remove fear?: 1d100 ⇒ 90 Animate rope?: 1d100 ⇒ 99
Gah! Really?!
Someone must be worried about the state (c'est moi) expropriating the contents of visiting mages' spellbooks or something. (Dammit, they're onto me! ;) )
Right, I guess we're doing things the hard way.

Meneas the Cowl |

I won't be able to post for the next few days - it's a holiday, so I won't be visiting here.

Signy Birkirsdottir |

Have a great holiday Meneas!
If the tankard is something of a stretch to do right now, I could choose a couple of easier things instead, say the cloak of resistance or the headband of inspired wisdom? I could also choose from the non-reduced price items on the list, maybe do the weapon enchantment of the elven chain, if there aren't any easy items for creation right now.

Brental Fenson |

We should probably standardize which end of the d100 is good for the roller. For miss chances, I usually rule that high is good and low is bad (e.g., 1-20 is a miss on concealment, 21-100 is a hit).
Of course, that's somewhat different in kingdom events, where it's prescribed.
But yeah, I would have figured rolls in the 90s as meaning that they were available.
Thankfully, the DC 13 (with the scroll of heroism intact) isn't too much of the hard way ^_^
[ooc](More like an auto-success unless you roll a 1 and give Signy a cursed item.)
---
Happy holiday, Meneas!
---
Also, Lina: which wand? Magic Missile or Burning Hands?

Hyalinnea "Lina" Kyrithra |

Huh. Since I associate d% with miss chances and (boo! hiss!) arcane spell failure more than anything else, yeah, I guess I just kind of got in the habit of looking for low numbers before proceeding further. (If X, then miss/spell failure/available.)
I can try to think high good, low bad, going forward, outside of things where it's specified.
Oh, and magic missile, definitely. Higher CL, better range, and no Ref saves, which I imagine would be a strong point for this fast little blighter.

* * * Kingdom Turn Sequence 12: Sarenith * * *
Starting Treasury: 3 BP
Okay, time for a (relatively) conservative month.
Upkeep Phase
Stability Check, DC 34: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (6) + 25 = 31 (Well, it was bound to happen again eventually)
Unrest increases to 1
Pay Consumption (-2) (store excess 2 BP)
Narratively: It has almost been a year since the founding of Helikia and Limen! With all of the events of the past year in the odd little queendom, there was bound to more attraction of outside elements. Although no one yet knows his name, this marks the first known appearance of a certain round-stomached, black-bearded, poshly-attired bard. Grigori begins doing some initial research under the busy noses of the heroes and founders of Helikia, sewing the initial seeds of discontent. Kundal the once-werewolf is drawn to Limen and some sheep disappear from a local farm. In the backdrop of brimming tragedy, Oleg and Svetlana finish planning their vow renewal and send out invitations.
Edict Phase
Claim Hexes (2): Hot Springs Hex, Spider Nest Hex (-2 BP, Forest +River Hex, Plains Hex)
Build Terrain Improvements (3)
Roads: Hot Springs Hex (-4 BP), Spider Nest Hex (-1 BP)
Farms: Spider Nest Hex (-2 BP)
Create and Improve Settlements (2)
House (-3 BP, first House per turn doesn't count vs. building limit, Unrest -1)
Dump (-4 BP, Stability +1)
Holiday: Founding Day
Narratively: While planning for Oleg and Lana's vow renewal, the rulers of Limen continue to develop the lands around them. They are treading close to the land already occupied by people with firmer concepts of land ownership than the fey. Garuum the Boggard, Bokken the mad old hermit, and the Levetons themselves are now at the formal edges of Helikia. Brental recommends making formal overtures to all four to ask if they would be interested in officially joining the kingdom of Limen.
Meanwhile, the Helikian rulers return to some other places that they haven't spent much time in in nearly a year: the old spider's nest and the hot springs. While in the hot springs, Brental is shocked to discover an otyugh in one of the smellier, more sulphurous mud pits. And, well, Helikia is already strange enough, with its denizens counting humans, elves, kobolds, fey, and soon-to-be others. Why not a resident otyugh? The city of Limen is growing to be in need of a central place for refuse anyway. And in all of Golarion, there are few more natural, sustainable methods of getting rid of trash than the stinky little sewer beasts. (Pigs would probably be a close second in terms of the sheer quality of waste disposal.) Perhaps to the chagrin of the others, Brental thinks of the little trash eater, named Oscar, as a large, bizarre pet, and lures him back with the promise of lots of trash and more to come if it does its job well. Oscar is only too happy to oblige, and gets a little "home" in the new dump that Limen was in the process of building anyway.
To Brental's delight, this makes the planned (and necessary) waste of the Founding Day Festival, a year exactly from the groundbreaking of Limen, even more sustainable. It is a resounding success, drawing people from across the burgeoning kingdom who don't get to the capital (and still only proper settlement by humanoid standards) for a few days of merriment and games. It's actually to be a smaller festival than the Harvest Festival to be held in Erastus following the formal breaking of ties between Helikia and Lady Jamandi Aldori, but one can't necessarily predict the future in the Age of Lost Omens.
Income Phase
Collect Taxes, Economy Check: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (15) + 26 = 41
13 + 4 BP from the mines & sawmill = +17 BP = 4 BP
Narratively: The festival also proves to be the last thing that Helikia needs to push into the black for the month. Jhod Kavken looks like he's about to pull out the rest of his hair while he's doing the final accounting for the month and begins running around Limen in uncharacteristic joy once he finishes the ledgers, hollering in a way that makes Kesten Garess wonder if the stodgy Erastilian had gotten into Signy's growing stash of ale and might need a night to cool off in the new drunk tank (i.e., Limen's jail). Before Kesten can move to detain Jhod (with Signy cracking up at the stern accusations and doing nothing to dissuade the man from his quarry), Meneas steps in to assure the overzealous Warden that Jhod is just pleased that the kingdom made more money than it spent this month. Meanwhile Lina is busy in her garden doing Cernunnos knows what and misses the whole affair, though she requests a dramatic reenactment later. Zuki and Riftun, who bore witness to the entire ordeal. are only too happy to provide the reenactment, which leaves Jhod fuming and swearing oaths that he'll never celebrate good financial windfalls again at this rate.
Event Phase
Event <25: 1d100 ⇒ 86 Chance --> 75% next turn
Ending Treasury: 4 BP
Stored BP in Granary: 2 BP

Brental Fenson |

Who, moi? Well, we've all been going at this game together for almost two years, so I hope I have gotten to know the characters decently!
It's been a lot of fun weaving together a little story in the background to fill in the details of the year. I hope that the others have also enjoyed our little tales!
Profession (cartographer) Week 44: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 2 = 23
Profession (cartographer) Week 45: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 = 20
Profession (cartographer) Week 46: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 2 = 18
Profession (cartographer) Week 47: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 2 = 15
Profession (cartographer) Week 48: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 2 = 27
Sarenith
Profession (cartographer) Week 49: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 = 20
Profession (cartographer) Week 50: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 2 = 23
Profession (cartographer) Week 51: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 2 = 24
Profession (cartographer) Week 52: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 2 = 11
23 + 20 + 18 + 15 + 27 + 20 + 23 + 24 + 11 = 181 181 / 2 = 90.5
I'm going to post links to all twelve months below so that they're all collected in one place.

Brental Fenson |

Here's hoping for good AoOs! Brental will track Rigg if he gets away, or at least he'll try to.
Go team!

Have I mentioned that I really like this sword?

Hyalinnea "Lina" Kyrithra |

:) It does seem to work for you quite nicely.
Amusingly enough for a magus – even if Lina’s a particularly weird one – I don’t actually have a very firm idea of what sorts of directions I might want to take Lina’s weapons in. Something to think about, I guess.
Anywho, let’s just check to make sure (we can only hope) that Lina didn’t accidentally (no, really really! ;) ) curse the stuff we decided she’d try to make for everyone.
Meneas’ cloak: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Signy’s belt: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Signy’s tankard: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
Yay! No natural 1s, so no awkward conversations to be had. XD

Brental Fenson |

Long day. I should get to a post tomorrow.

Brental Fenson |

Off-topic again: is Kesten being a bad influence on our druid? “I see you managed to get your shirt off.” :p Not that I want to treat Vod as a beast of burden (we could treat him to a pile of apples as tall as Lina for his good offices, maybe?), but if we could come up with some sort of carrying frame, wouldn’t it make sense to exploit quadruped carrying capacities, Brental?
Everyone is a "bad" influence on Brental ^_^ Especially Kesten.
He's never been conservative (any druid who attends the annual Burning Man Moot of Ages can't be too much of a stick in the mud), but he's certainly less restrained than he used to be.
As for poor Vod, he's absolutely gonna love a tower of apples. And once he's huge, we're definitely getting him a howdah. Heck, we could even splurge...
Altogether, yeah, Vod would be a better carrier, but Brental doesn't want to treat him like a beast of burden.

Hyalinnea "Lina" Kyrithra |

Fair. I thought that might be it, but just in case it was an oversight.
If Brental were biddable enough to be moved around at Lina's whim, the mad scientist side of me kind of wants to see how long it takes for him to go native in various populations. :) I guess we might find out with the lizardfolk, at least.
Though I'm afraid Lina's going to have to insist that court dinners in Limen continue not to feature sapient courses. (It's bad enough that in a few levels she'll have to deal with the fact that with a bit of effort she could talk to her salad.) :D

Brental Fenson |

No sapient courses, check. I've really been having fun playing off of Brental's relative unmooredness in this book so far. Like, technically, he could go any of five directions: doubling down on true neutral, swinging back to LN, ascending to NG, rebelling to CN, or darkening to NE. I have a preference that Rackal knows about, but I like to think that I am not in complete control of my characters. They tell me where they're going, and I write them accordingly whether I like it or not.

Signy Birkirsdottir |

I maintain that Signy has been nothing but a good influence on Brental. Anyone who says different will get punched.
I'll bet Kesten has a hairier chest than Brental though. Aasimar don't strike me as hairy types.

Brental Fenson |

Nope! I've mentioned it before, but I envision Brental's celestial heritage to be of an exscinder. Doesn't look like much hair on that shine!
Now if B was agathion-blooded, that would be a whole other story.

Hyalinnea "Lina" Kyrithra |

Hi, everyone: I’m posting this to all the campaigns I’m in that with the end of the month fast approaching, among other things, the next week or so is going to be hair-pullingly awful on my end, so I may only be able to post briefly and erratically until a day or so after May Day.
If things end up dragging too long, feel free to bot me.

Brental Fenson |

I love our little crew.
Very diplomatic "u wot m8?"
We came here to support fey and chew bubblegum, and bubblegum hasn't been invented yet.
