GM Bret |
Thanks James! That does help!
I've made a copy of it, so as to not accidentally mess up the original. Now to go back to prepping dice rolls for various things.
GM Bret |
I'm getting positive feedback on one of the slides I did to track use of the rewards from preparation. I created a table with each player's name and an indication of what they chose (if there was a choice) and if they had used the reward yet.
It is currently slide #12, but will move up once we hit our first battle.
GM Sedoriku |
Okay another question. I was prepping rolls and information for Encoutner A with the mushroom ring, but I can't seem to find how many actions the mushroom ring can take each round. Its routine only takes 1 action, but the ring doesn't get 3 actions a round does it? Summoning three fey creatures a round would make more than a few rounds of combat a real nightmare for players.
GM Dennis |
One creature per round. In general, hazards do whatever is in their routine each round, however many actions that might be.
GM Dennis |
I will likely post the transition to Part 1 about 5:30pm Pacific time, 1:30am UTC, after my work day is done.
GM Dennis |
Sorry everyone, ran a bit late. You should all have a post moving us on to part 1.
Also, I will have a success-reporting form up later tonight.
GM Dennis |
How long do we have for part 1?
The Schedule is posted here (and linked at the top of this page. You have until March 10th for Part 1.
GM Dennis |
Important info as we begin Part 1:
Let me know if you have any questions.
GM Bret |
Sorry for the delay on passing the Aid Token.
So with the new Aid Tokens, am I correct that a table may only pass along one of each type of Aid Token?
Do they get refreshed? If so, when?
I will encourage my table to boost them. At this time it seems the one to pass first is Offensive since it helps everyone make progress quickly at the start.
GM Blake |
I understood it to be the table starts with 4 (one of each) tokens that they can't use themselves and they pass only 1 each part (Intro, 1, 2, 3). So there's no refreshing of the passed tokens or need to.
I didn't catch if one table can receive multiples of the same type or not. I don't see why not, especially if they needed one specific type, but I could have missed it.
GM Dennis |
Each table gets one of each type to pass, and that's it for the scenario. You should pass one in each section (Intro, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3), and it's up to you which you pass during which section. I don't think there's any limit to how many/which type a table can receive, and there's explicitly no limit to how many a table can use. I may make a tracking sheet after the first round of passing is complete, to make it more clear who has received what so far.
GM Dennis |
I will post those updates as they come up (I've just posted it to all your tables; please tell me if you don't see it).
On a related note, if your table is still working on the Mushroom Ring, that's fine. Go ahead and finish and report the encounter, and I can reassign the success where it's needed. If you have not yet started the Mushroom Ring encounter, please do not do so.
GM Bret |
So with normal scenarios many of them have an indicator of about when to grant a hero point. It is supposed to be approximately 1/hr. Looking at the schedule, it appears 10 days is rated at approximately an hours worth of live play.
Does each GM decide when to give out hero points, or is that something we will be prompted to do? Is there an approximate schedule you want us to use?
GM Hawthwile |
My table of spellcasters is struggling with a kelpie - does anyone have an Aid Token they could send our way?

I'll try to give you periodic reminders to do so if you haven't yet, but when you award hero points is up to you. You are correct that 10 days = 1 hour (1 day = 6 minutes is our standard conversion rate for PbP specials).

I made a list of tables and marked how many aid tokens had been given to each for my table, and I've updated it with the most recent tokens. Not sure if this helps or not.
GM Dennis |
Thanks, Sedoriku! I turned your list into a spreadsheet so we can keep it updated. I'll post it in the Recruitment thread, too, and link it at the top.

Hey folks, I realized today that I had calculated the targets for each of these missions wrong. We actually need 8 for each, rather than 9. I've updated the tracking sheet to match, and reassigned the extra success from mission A.
GM Bret |
So is there any reason that characters could not Aid another skill check for Part E Chart a Course? If they did, would that interfere with their ability to do their own check?
My group has a bard that would like to use Inspire Competence. Unlike normal Aid, this is something that can work at low level and it only takes one action. It is meant for Encounter Mode, but I don’t think that prevents someone from doing it in Exploration mode.
GM Blake |
For Chart a Course, since the rolls have individual risks, each PV needs to make it through the obstacle, and the roll represents the result of sustained efforts over time, I would think that a PC would be too busy watch out to Aid and the duration is longer than 1 round. That and every other skill encounter has specifically stated if the PC can Aid another.
GM Bret |
Each PC does not need to make it through the obstacle. The group needs (depending on Challenge Points) either one or two successes in each of the skill challenges.
My group of six needed two and only got one on the first one, much of that due to bad dice rolls. It really helps to roll double digits on a d20.
GM Blake |
Each PC must attempt a DC 20 skill check to bypass each obstacle.
Emphasis mine.
I haven't checked which tier you're running, but that's how Kate ran Tier 1-2, also.
The 1-2 successes per obstacle is for Table Reporting successes. You need X successes per obstacle and 2 out of 3 obstacles charted for a Charting Success.
GM Bret |
If at least one PC succeeds, the group succeeds; for groups with 12 or more Challenge Points, two successes or one critical success is necessary to bypass an obstacle instead ...
---
It only takes one success. It is perfectly reasonable to assume all the PCs are attempting this at the same time (the Each PC must attempt) but every PC does not have to succeed.
I am Tier 1-2, I suspect only the difficulty changes but have not checked the other tiers table directions.

As far as I'm concerned (and Kate agrees), everyone must attempt a primary check, since there is a danger of damage on a failure. You can decide for your table whether they can also do inspire competence.

Hey folks, some errata was recently posted for Bestiary 2. While most of it doesn't affect this special, there are two creatures that had substantive changes to their abilities. If your tier includes these creatures, please make the following adjustments.
Second, change the failure and critical failure entries to:
Failure The creature is fascinated. For as long as it is fascinated, it must spend each of its actions to move closer to the yellow musk creeper as expediently as possible, while avoiding obvious dangers. If the creature is adjacent to the yellow musk creeper, it stays still and doesn't act. If anyone takes a hostile action against the creature or its allies, the effect ends. Otherwise, the creature can attempt a new save at the end of each of its turns. On a success, the effects end.
Critical Failure As failure, but the condition doesn't end automatically if anyone takes a hostile action against the creature or its allies.

You should each have two posts from me today. Also, we are now two weeks in to this scenario, which translates to just shy of 90 minutes. If you haven't given out a hero point yet, consider doing so soon.
GM Sedoriku |
Quick question, I know all of the players need to roll for barriers in Encounter E: Chart a Course, but do animal companions?
GM Dennis |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
No. Animal companions are class features, and that would amount to that player rolling twice.
GM Dennis |
Hey folks, it's looking like we are going to reach all of the milestones for this section ahead of schedule. I'll post the "5-minute warning" post soon, then you'll have about 36 hours to wrap up your current encounters before we transition to part 2.
Take this as a warning as well: if you haven't passed an aid token in Part 1 yet (2 total), now is the time.
GM Bret |
Can the bonus from the Announced Conditions be carried into Part 2?
That wasn't clear to me. Unlike in past specials for PF1 and SFS, these conditions are a use once rather than change everything going forward.
GM Dennis |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Yes, as far as I'm concerned they can carry over.
GM Dennis |
You should all have a post from me launching Part 2. I'll get an updated timeline up soon, since we are now about 4 days ahead of the original schedule.
GM Sedoriku |
Hey, backup GMs would anyone be able to cover my table for next weekend, March 13th-14th, Japan Standard Time? I will be GMing something that Saturday and then have a LARP game for the first time in near forever and not having to try getting updates in between would be nice.
GM Fuzzfoot |
I am travelling on the 14th, so wouldn't be any good then. If no one else can take it, though, I can the 13th and maybe early and late the 14th.
DM Deevor |

I should be around that weekend, I'm in the UK hopefully times won't be an issue, 5 hours ahead of US East coast time. Doesn't work so well with Pacific timezones. If you're good with that, I can respond over the 2 days.

Given time zone differences, it'd be more the 12th and 13th for America than the 14th, but I think DM Deevor can cover for me instead.

Actually I'm 8 hours ahead of UK time, so that should be fine. I'll Pm you with details and specifics about where we are likely to be in the scenario.

Hey folks,
We just hit the milestone for Defense successes, and you should all have a post from me to that effect. Feel free to continue any defense fight's you're in the middle of. I expect us to hit the Ritual milestone within the next couple days, which would lead to us starting Part 3 by mid-week.
If you haven't given out at least two Hero Points so far, consider giving out another one; likewise, if you haven't passed your third Aid Token yet, now's the time. You can pass the fourth one once we begin Part 3.
GM Dennis |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I would suggest just waiting, but if you're worried about losing engagement you could start an extra defense mission. We'll likely be moving on within a couple days, though, so you probably won't get to finish it, and will be sapping party resources.
GM Dennis |
We hit the last milestone this morning. I just posted both the Gregaro Voth Free condition and the one-day warning to your tables. We will launch part 3 tomorrow!
GM Dennis |
Sorry for the delay, got caught up with work and cooking duties this afternoon. I've posted the beginning of Part 3 in all your tables. Please report a Monarch success when your table completes their encounter; I want to make sure everyone has earned at least one success before we wrap things up.
GM Blake |
Yes... before I potentially murderize at least one character with army ants on the bonus encounter.
