Elanna follows Frayley who looks like they can find their way in that labyrinth of sights, sonnds and smells.
Once or twice, Elanna seems find a short-cut but one after another they end up blocked and she happily let's Frayley's honed senses lead the way.

The party follow Frayley through the passageways that start twisting and turning in any direction, but with skills learned through her previous sojourns into caverns they swiftly take you to the sounds of battle.
The sounds of fighting get louder, the echoes seem to die down and the cries of men and duergar in the heat of battle are heard. Screams of agony when steel cuts through and breaks the bones and flesh of it's victim, or the cries for help as what seems like hundreds of explosions pierce the sounds of hand to hand combat.
The flames of Frayley's torch play with the shadows as you think any minute now you will come into conflict with the duergar, where are they hiding?

Frayley leaves their torch on the floor, before they sneaks along another tunnel, towards the sounds of battle.
The pitch black of the cavern envelopes Frayley who gingerly feels along the cavern walls to get into a position to fire into the darkness in support of their companions.

When you see into the cavern, there is a defensive mound in front of you. It is 10ft high, and stepped in 5ft steps, requiring climbing or leaping as a move action to get up.

The sounds of battle rage on as the pathfinders seek to get an advantage in the cavern, by sneaking into position. Darkness envelopes everything in the cavern, the only source of light is the torch in Anjo's hands, back in the tunnels. An eerie silence comes from this end of the cavern, is it safe to rush in or is their a trap? Will you meet up with the Eagle Knights and defeat this Duegar raiding and slaving party?

Elanna stifles a cry as acid droplets strike the back of her neck and sizzle, sending needles of pain to her brain.
As see the duergars for the first time, she sprints across the uneven surface, her eyes focused on the closest one and she leaps up onto the first level of the defensive mound.
In mid air, she reverses her grip on her short sword and stabs down at the juncture between the helmet and the neck, trying to take the Duergar by surprise.
"They've only seen Anjo", she calls in Common.

Fraryley, you don't roll two dice on crits. The first one is doubled. This is change in PF2.
DM Deevor
|
Anjo is correct about the way damage is rolled on crits.
And a natural 20 is not a guaranteed critical, it increases the level of the hit one step, so a miss bcomes a hit, and a hit becomes a critical. So in this instance the miss, becomes a hit. In the same way a natural 1 reduces the result one step, so a hit becomes a miss, and a miss becomes a critical miss.
Frayley unleashes arrows a barrage of arrows at the duergar, but they are elusive targets as they take cover on the elevated mound. All but one shot misses the target.
Anjo throws a torch forward, as he moves back into the safety of the tunnels. You hear the duergar on top of the mound cries out as the torch burns on the mound (5ft step).
"My eyes, the light, I'm blind."
Elanna rushes forward and strikes hard with her shortsword, almost bringing the duergar down in one well aimed punchy strike.
Makai too moves up to take on the duergar, but he has difficulty reaching up 5ft and his weapon fails to hit the target, just scuffing the earthen mound.
The duegar throwing bombs, badly injured crawls round way from the side Elanna approached, he takes an acid flask and throws it towards the pointed blade that stabbed him. The bomb hits Elanna's shoulder, but the flask bounces off her and explodes next to her, doing only a little damage. 1HP splash damage
The duegar with the crossbow, stands as he reloads and fires at the dwarf below him. The bolt hits the dwarf, bursting into a tangle of sticky cords that tangle around him. Reflex save please Makai.
You are knocked prone and immobilized until you are freed with a successful DC 15 check to Escape. This check can be attempted either by you or by a creature adjacent to you.

Elanna pivots on her heals and dodges most of the blast, but a few drops land on her cheek, burning the skin.
Leaving that one to her comapanions, she spots Makai perillous position and the Duergar crossbowman's distraction.
Moving around the defensive mound, she tries to catch him between her and her dwarven companion. Aiming for the back of the knee, then the back of the neck, she strikes twice at her foe.

Makai falls to the floor, tangled in the bola bolt's ropes. He eventually gets himself out of the ropes, but it takes all his guile and strength.
As the sharpshooter laughs at the dwarfs efforts, Elanna comes round behind and with one strike almost takes down the duergar. However as the duegar falls forward as his muscle stiffens to resist the effort to fall. Elanna's second strike misses the duergar's vital spot.
Flayley is in dim light but can see the duegar is taking cover making him difficult to hit from range.
Anjo, I may have misinterpreted your action of throw the torch, which I took as throw towards your prey... followed by retreating into darkness. Because in darkness, movement is through difficult terrain, so I have put Anjo closer to the cavern, less in the tunnels. If I misinterpreted your actions, you have still had a significant effect on the encounter.

All in a sudden the combat is over, Anjo's deadly first shot finds the blind duergar's blinking eye, as it pops the eyeball before penetrating the brain. The bomber's life is immediately extinguished without even a word to Droskar to welcome him to his servitude.
As though inspired by the accurate Anjo, Frayley's first arrow pierces the neck of the other duergar, severing the artery forcing the sharpshooter into a few gurgling words, as his mouth fills with blood. "For Droskar!" is heard between the bubbles of blood, before he too falls to the floor, dead!
A torch lying on the mound, is all that illuminates this ugly scene of death.

"Is everybody all right?", she calls.
"Anjo ? You took the blunt of their attacks. I can see to your wounds now if it's critical or later when we have a little more time ?, she adds with concern in her voice.

Elanna can use treat wounds if needed, but it will take 10 minutes.
Same here, but I don't have the gear
Frayley pauses in the act of pulling back an arrow, watching the Duergar fall. Finally the put the arrow back, and bend down to pick up their shortbow, replacing their longbow on their back.
"I am fine. They did not even try to get at me." Frayley walks over to pick up the torch and look around to make sure there's no other dangers nearby.
"If you are badly hurt Anjo, I have enough skill to help with treating your wounds, but I do not have the equipment. If it's not bad though, it might be good if we keep moving."

She nods at Makai. "You did well on your side, they wasted their attack on you and opened themselves to the rest of us."

The pathfinders are able to take a short break from the fighting to regroup after the brief encounter to block the duergar's retreat. Without a route back to the darklands, the duergar's force is wiped out by the Eagle Knights, as the duergar fight to the death.
With the duergar threat neutralized, the Eagle Knights and the Pathfinders celebrate with ale and roast suckling once they return to the surface. Lieutenant Evanno is particularly impressed with the strange inventions that helped defeat the duergar and offers his personal set of Golden Legion epaulets in addition to Ghelib’s journal, to commemorate this day of alliance. As they part ways, he offers to sponsor any of them for membership into the Eagle Knights, if they feel so inclined.

Elanna thanks the Lieutenant: "We got lucky and managed to get the jump on them. I'll be happy to come back and help you clear up some more part of the Underdark if you need, just send word."
She hesitate an instant and pleads: "And I have a more personal favor to ask of you. If you ever here about the whereabouts of an elven tribe called the Seven Eyes in the Darklands, could you send a note to the Society to tell me. And don't worry, they're not Drows, just elves looking more or less like me."
Taking her leave from the lieutenant, she takes the time to help Anjo heal himself should he requires help.
On the way back, she also approaches Makai. "So, did you have a chance to look at the journal of Ghelib? I'd like to take a copy of the maps he made, do you think the Society will object?"
She thinks some more and adds: "And sorry for jumping into the fight so quickly. I was worried they were going to turn Anjo into a pincushion or burn him to death with their acid bombs. So thanks for going in as well and taking next hit. I'll repay you in kind next time we are on the field together."

"I am new Pathfinder but they keep saying Explore, Report, Cooperate. I honestly need to say that I want to throw up whenever I hear someone saying that. Sharing the maps falls under cooperation. So go for it." He pats her on her back and smiles broadly
