Heh, it'd be funny if Nathan was to tell the goblins, in their native language from where he's standing outside the doorway right after the Astral Deva storms inside there, that they'd better do what Xef sez if they know what's good for 'em. ;p
Waiting behind with Zupon while the youthful Scholar is busy concocting more alchemical wonders, Chigao- at some point after Randall went off to find Xephkiel, Nathan, and his psicrystal- went and bought/dragged out the bugbear treasure chest [if it is remotely movable, that is] over to Zupon so that he could use it as a makeshift table-surface for his workings of alchemy. ;)
Chigao is about 55 squares away from where Xef is shouting at the goblins... around 275 feet away or thereabouts; so the DC for her perception to hear all that is at around +27 or 28 to hear anything amiss?
Perception to hear Xef's shouting?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17.
If by some chance she hears anything, she'll alert Zupon that something is up; she may even go over to check on things after she determines if it'll be safe enough to leave Zupon behind. ;)

GM correct me if I'm wrong. but interposed allies/enemies only provide soft cover to the target. WHich is just a bonus to their AC. +4 I think. Which at this low level its all depending on the dice roll anyway so it doesnt' hurt much.
Creatures, even your enemies, can provide you with cover against ranged attacks, giving you a +4 bonus to AC. However, such soft cover provides no bonus on Reflex saves, nor does soft cover allow you to make a Stealth check.

Looking at the map as it stands now, Randall stands between Nathan and the (green) goblin. Randall provides soft cover to the goblin. The target is also in melee combat with a friendly. Shooting or Throwing into a Melee applies a -4 penalty unless you have the Precise Shot feat. So it is possible to have a -8 penalty for the shot.

| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Correct; I saw his post earlier and was coming to say the same thing. There's never a danger of hitting allies, there's just a near-certainty of missing the enemy. At least until higher levels when your attack bonus is so much higher and Touch AC is so much lower that you basically only miss on a 1.
