Jayma's confusion is understandable but is caused by a small sample size. Zabu's actual type is "female, humanoid and willing." While Junissa is definitely the first 2, her foreboding demeanor suggests that he doesn't have much chance...or would have to work harder than he's interested in doing.

"How can the richest farmer in town not have any animals? I'm no dirtgrubber myself but even I know you need something to pull your plows," he says.

But as the group starts to move, he does too.

"A hunting lodge. Now that sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind seeing what's actually worth hunting around here. Giant mosquitos and big lizards just don't cut it with me."

He joins Meadow and Bessama as they head out but throws a wink back at Lotte.

"Fort need wood--a few spots with leaks in roof. Shagrat try to figure out where we get wood," he says.

He decides to try places that look like they have wood to see where they are getting it. I'll try the Cooper?

It would be reasonable for you to split up within the town in order to speak with various residents briefly. I will note that the villagers are a bit wary of you and it will take longer to Make an Impression with any of them, you won't have an opportunity this day.

Bemused, Lotte shrugs off Zabu's suggestions she proceeds to cleaning.

As you head out Mask Narsen does so as well, "I am confident in your success and look forward to seeing your progress in a few weeks hence. "I am more than a little surprised that you requested my aid," Bessama comments. "Or that missus Mayar would allow it even after serving her family for several years. We should move quickly though before she has a change of heart and begins hunting me down." She gives a smile as she directs you to the small nearby hunting lodge.

There is a man outside tanning some animal furs as you approach. He is a middle aged human clothed with earth-toned clothing he seems to have tracked down and hunted himself. It rises up to meet you as he takes notice. As he opens his mouth you can see that his teeth are all stained brown as Bessama introduces you, "Plisken, sir? This are some of the Pathfinders we have been told about."

He gives an appraising look at the present members and comments, "well you lot do look stronger than I thought. I was expecting more people who spent their days inside reading books!" He guffaws revealing his stained teeth clearly as he goes on, "well I set aside the time to be here to help with your little project. Would normally be out in the woods hunting and would rather be out there, but the bit of coin will help settle that right quick, I'll let you know!" He gives another smile, "although, I might think differently if you came here taking my work. Saw you dragging that game back and immediate my mind went to thinking, 'these people are going to have you build a fort while they clear out the woods!' He laughs it off, clearly joking around.

Cooperage: Braderock Brumn

The town not being that large Shagrat is easily able to find the cooperage even the lumber is mentioned. There is a large stack of cut wood piled under cover near the cooperage. The building is a combination of home and workshop, but it isn't very lively as the sounds of only a single worker sounds through the air cutting some of the wood.

He is a another human, a man in his early thirties with wide arms, strong jaw and a shaved head. Still he nearly falls over immediately as he sets aside his work to address your approach. "Ah! Yes! Customers!
Pathfinders! Boss!"
He calls out widely seeking out the right answer. He continues with a nervous stammer, "I hope everything is looking good, I am ready to start work tomorrow."

He blanches a bit at he quickly works to correct what he clearly sees a dramatic error on the phrasing of his part, "Unless you need me tonight, I'm happy to start what I'm able. If you need it, I'll make sure it is done!"

Jayma had joined Meadow and Bessama on their visit to Plisken the trapper and couldn't help but be delighted by the man's demeanor. A welcome change from the others they'd met so far in Prophet’s Rest. Laughing along with Plisken's joke, she smacks him playfully on the forearm, and says, "Oh how very amusing, Mr Brown; you are a card I see. ha ha"

Once the laughter dies down, she continues, "But you needn't worry too much about us taking your job; the lizard in question is the result of a little contretemps we had at the fort earlier today while we were evicting the previous tenants. I doubt we'll be making a habit of it." Jayma beams him a smile. "It is in fact because of the lizards that we're here, I believe."

Jayma then jabs Meadow in the thigh with an elbow to indicate that it was her turn to say something.

"I do like to read books. Particularly pathfinder chronicles but..."

She glances back at Silence.

"Well Silence and I aren't allowed in the library anymore after just a teeny tiny mixup. Silence still hadn't quite figured out about familiars yet and when he saw a mouse in the library he flew over to catch it. Fortunatly for that witch lady the mouse managed to get away but Silence kept chasing him. I tried to stop him but I bumped into a wizard working on his spellbook and, well...we knocked over a bookcase. It wasn't that bad really."

Meadow blushes.

"Well except that bookcase knocked over another bookcase and that one knocked over another and before I knew it there were six bookcases on the floor and books everywhere and I think that wizard's ink spilled all over his spellbook and well it was kinda bad. Anyway the head librarian kicked us out even though I offered to clean everything up and said that we can't come back. That wizard called Silence a menace and me a walking catastrophe."

Mask Narsen to Meadow

Narsen makes an apologetic gesture as he states, "it may not be as it seems. Priest Lumley is a caretaker of this village and the successes and failures reflect on him, as will your task will do so on myself. It is the pressure of the priesthood to ensure the health of their community. Working with him I'm certain you will see the positivity within."

Bladerock to Brekovi

Brekovi wrote:
Brekovi gets out his notes and talks to the man about challenges he sees.

Braderock calms somewhat taking a breath as immediately seems relieved not leaping to work immediately. He is able to review a lot of the requirements of the tasks needed to make the fort habitable. He is wary of telling you anything bad or stating anything will take a long time and he apologize any time he is forced to. Most of the the tasks will take somewhere between six to twelves person-days with some variance due to chance.

No check is necessary to list out what is done as it is apparent what is broken and needed repairs, I will be posting information on the repairs in discussion.

Bessama to Meadow

She takes a glance to the ground as she modestly answers, "well I do know a bit of everything here."

"I admit I only work at there due to troubles I had years back with illness and the like. Over a few years I was buried by debt and I could never escape it. Eventually to force me to pay back what I owed I ended up here under the employ of the Mayars."

"The Mayars, Lotte and her sons are, she punctuations with a pause as she seeks to find the right word. "Well, they are strict and like to keep my busy!" She forces a smile as she continues to explain as it turns into a quiet bit of gossip, "Lotte works hard to keep everything in perfect shape rain or shine. Her sons though... Mikkel is a hard worker, but prefers to work where he he doesn't need to meet with others. So that work falls to me. And Wilfred ... has skill, but he does have a issue of desire to work. That is how he lost his apprenticeship. So I need to take on the work he doesn't want to do."

"They just want to make sure everything is complete and is my responsibly to keep anything from getting lost or forgotten." She tries to play it off and keep a cheerful demeanor as to her workload.

She takes advantage of the question of her marriage to jump into another topic. "She was married, but Mr. Mayar was gone before I arrived. She doesn't talk about him much though, at least with me."

Zabu:
While everything she is stating is not a lie, she is actively attempting to sway and persuade you. Making an attempt to manipulate you to disfavor the Mayars and feel more concern for herself. The way she speaks makes it seem as though she does resent her mistreatment by the Mayar family.

Meadow:

Plisken the Brown to Jayma and Meadow

Plisken's laugh echoes again as Jayma joins in and banters. "Well I'm glad to hear that I'll be able to keep my job around here! Hopefully there aren't any more of those cont-temp things."

He laughs at Meadow's story and offers his own commentary, "that is why they need to get out more. Can't handle a little animal in their business for a little moment. Things I love to live for!'

Thinking the subject of the geckos he runs his hand through his hair to warm up his thoughts. He shakes his head though as he says, "while I love the idea, I'm far better at hunting a beast than teaching to sit and play fetch. I mean, I don't know how Sylvina handles all her critters. Although I admit that things are a big enough mess at my station without me caring for a bunch of beasts I tell you what?" She gives a laugh as the imagery passes through his mind.

Plisken gestures across the way answering Meadow. "You know! Sylvina!" For a moment it seems clear that he feels this answer is sufficient before realizing it is not. "Sylvina Norritch is the wise woman in town. Runs Knicks and Knacks selling healing creams and charms. She carries her load of pets with her. I say it would be a bit of a mess, but I manage to get there without any help." He gives a boisterous laugh along with his commentary settling down as he slaps his hand to his hip.

Wilfred to Kornel

Kornel is able to find Wilfred within the meeting room within the Inn. There the reddish haired man sits back in a chair, eats some of the leftover food while throwing darts at the wall. His body is of a heavy build and likely would be impressive if for some training. He glances toward Kornel and starts to get up as he looks past toward where Mask Narsen was. Braderock is worried about disappointing you, but working with him Brekovi has a reasonable idea of the difficulty of the tasks. Overall the difficulty with the construction is low, just costing in resources and time. Most of the tasks Brekovi could reliably succeed with and with the aid of Braderock or some other specialist could almost guarantee success.

A few tasks stand out as slightly more complicated, although still almost trivialized by the skill Brekovi shows in the analysis. While he would likely succeed on leading those efforts, there is a minor chance of failure on them.

Most Crafting DCs are DC 12

The following have slightly higher DC 15: Collapsing the Watchtower, Rebuild Collapsed Stairs, Rebuild the Scaffolding for Battlements, Replace the Main Gate

"Goblins like to have dump for all the trash in one place. When we clean it up, Shagrat say we put all in once place so if anyone need anything later, they find it easy. Or get dinner."

Shagrat does point out that under the collapsed stairs might be a good place for the garbage dump. In fact, they could potentially use some of the debris from other areas to prop up the stairway.

He would inform the stonemason of the same thing when he got back to the inn, apologizing for the oversight on his part. He would give the same offer with respect to getting answers or allowing them to look at the sight.

I would be annoyed as an NPC if I was told I had to show up only to find out I could't start that day. Seems fair to inform the NPCs of the change as soon as we know. :)

He would also go up to the room of the Manaro family, knocking on the door and asking to speak to Avan. Kornel and Wilfred Mayar

Wilfred pauses his game for a moment to glare at Kornel as he begins speaking of Razmir. The word and praise Kornel gives Razmir doesn't seem to bother the man at all, but seems more exacerbated that Kornel interrupted his lack of action.

He shakes his head as Kornel finishes. Returning to his dart throwing the remainder at the wall one by one. "I've got the command from Mask Narsen himself, don't worry, I'll be there to work. It better not be too much, I have plenty of other things I rather be doing. Planning my days around some strangers that walk into town is a pain." He quickly runs through the darts and heaves another sigh as he realizes he has none left. It takes a few moments of internal debate before forcing himself up to retrieve a handful from the wall and returning back to his seat. "If you want to learn more about the good word, go talk to Priest Lumley, or listen to him tomorrow morning. I'm not going to put in the work for you to learn more."

It is clear that he dislikes Kornel or the rest of the party. While he may be short of fanaticism, it seems as though his respect for Priest Lumley, Mask Narsen, and the faith of Razmir is evident even through his contempt for you.

Braderock responds emphatically, "oh please don't worry about that! It is expected that we answer the call and do what we are able to get your lodge built. If that means cleaning debris then I will be right there helping clear the way for the woodwork or anything else you may need! I don't want to make it seem like I'm not living up to my duties!"

Brekovi with Junissa

Junissa also confirms she will be there to help clean up saying, "if this were in the capital, others would have already cleared this place out before I arrived, but sitting around drinking isn't going to get this finished any sooner. I rather be working, even on your little building, than sit around hoping you get the clean up done."

Brekovi with Manaros

Avan thinks for a moment and says, "I feel guilty taking work from anyone else, but I will be happy to give you a hand. If I'm working alongside them it would be good to find out more about the other people that live here and I admit I'm in no position to turn down work, especially because of what Meadow did for us."

The youthful excitement from Mihal pipes up, "can I go too? I don't want to be left behind! There isn't anyone around to play with!"

Erali explains to him that he can't, and will need to be stay about the town. She does admit to Brekovi, "there are fewer here than I had expected. Only a few families and no children here. It certainly our old village. It may take sometime getting used to."

Brekovi is impressed by both Braderock and Junissa offering to help with the cleanup. He does assure them "That is very kind of you. I just didn't want to waste your talents on such menial tasks if you had other things to do."

With the Manaros

"Yes, it is an opportunity to gain some money and meet the other people. Decide if this is where you want to stay or attempt to get passage when we leave on the boat."

"Splendid! I gotta go talk to her. Come on Silence!"

Meadow sprints off towards Knicks and Knacks. After about ten steps she stops and runs back.

"Oh sorry. Thanks Mr Plisken. That's her shop over there, right?"

She points towards Knicks and Knacks and before anyone can answer her question she sprints away, closely followed by Silence.

Meadow and Knicks and Knacks

Plisken gives a wave as he ponders aloud as Meadow run across the village center, "what did she say happened that library?"

...

The inside of the shop is a small affair with a number of various brews lined up against the rear shelf and charms hanging from hooks. There are few other bits of packaged goods and trinkets about, all hand made or preserved for the sale.

By the counter, mixing ingredients into a bubbling cauldron Meadow sees Sylvina Norritch. Her hair is a matted mess of gray that drapes over her shoulders and she wears baggy clothing that has been patched together many times with several pockets across it.

"Welcome my dear," she says just offering a quick glance toward the door as she finishes attending to her brew. "I was looking forward to meeting some of our towns guests before tomorrow's light, especially since I will not be bringing any of my shop with me to your lovely project."

As Meadow step ins a few of the pockets open up revealing some rats who take in the new guest to the shop. Another pair are visible riding on her shoulders and three more rats peak their heads out of Sylvina's hair. As Silence comes near they all duck and hide themselves away in the nest of hair and myriad of pockets.

She then follows Meadow into the store. She smiles and nods to Sylvina upon entering, but lets Meadow take the lead. While the ranger interacts with Sylvina, Jayma wanders around the store and looks everything over casually but thoroughly. She reads labels and examines brews and trinkets to try and figure out what type of magic Sylvina is capable of, if any.

Not sure if this rises to a 10 minute Identify Magic action, or if it is just a simple Perception roll (presumably secret). I'm fine with the GM rolling for Jayma if necessary.

When she notices the woman's pet rats, she quickly sends a mental command to Twyl to stay put. It was unneeded; her familiar was happily snoozing on her shoulders after a long day.

Zabu groans at Plisken's mention of the work to be done. "Don't remind me! I'm already trying to think up excuses about why I won't be able to spend all day moving rocks."

He shrugs as the man asks about Meadow. "No idea. She spends too much time talking to an owl and not enough talking to people to make any sense to me.

"I better go keep her out of trouble. Or get her into the right kind of trouble," he tells the hunter with a grin, throwing him a wave as he hurries across the street.

The gnome saunters in after the rats have hidden and looks idly around the shop. He's the kind of shopper who picks things up and looks at them and not a "you break it you bought it" kind.

With some urging from the others, Shagrat spends some time looking for anyone that might help with unskilled labor.

They say unskilled, but put all the trash in one place need lots of skill.

Shagrat spends some time looking around the small town for anyone else that likes to hoard trash or otherwise collect useful items.

Correct, given the wary natures of villagers here, it takes a longer effort to attempt to Make an Impression on them.

Jamya's spell registers magic in the store among the brews, charms, and ointments.

All the items are labeled clearly, but it is difficult for Jamya to parse what in magical within the room. There are love charms hanging, healing creams, dried nuts and fruit, alongside nature made crafts including woodcarvings, hanging ornamentation, and other relics.

The only that Jayma is certain of are the magical minor healing potions. Even then the label and frequent exposure to them in Society are aided with that.

"Welcome, welcome to my little shop," she repeats as yet more find their way in. "Is there anything I can offer you dears? If you are looking for healing, I would have plenty of items for sale to solve your ills. The temple doesn't freely grant their healing, and while neither do I, I will note my stock is still at a reasonable price." The elderly woman smiles and makes her pitch as each of you wander the room. She sets aside her tools as her cauldron bubbles.

Looking toward Zabu she notes some of the items he is near. "A number of decorations I have placed together, some from the styles of Ustalav and others from culture of Kellid tribes. That one is a woodworking of a tale of a pair of warriors that set on their own and fought the beasts that swarmed this land many a century ago. I understand you may be here a while and certainly something of your choice may do wonders to liven up your quarters."

She smiles as Zabu continues to review things in worn voice, content and ready to answer any questions as given.

"And those are charms of love. Each are crafted and unique, and help bend the strings of fate to grant favor, appeal or health as you might need."

At this point Narsen has taken his leave of town.

Shagrat explores a bit, but despite there being a good number of buildings in town he finds that most are empty. However there are a few places where he can find unskilled labor

But Where?: 1d3 ⇒ 2

Shagrat and the Temple of Razmir!

The immediate answer is the nearest building, the long building with the mask Narsen and the other priest were wearing right above the door.

Immediately as Shagrat steps inward a short human man with dual scars across his face wearing hide moves to block the way. He speaks in a commanding voice declaring, "oh ho?! The foreign garbage that thinks they are better than us? Now you come here to our temple? What? You want to test to see how well your blade works against Razmirian training you garbage packing punk?" He readies a pike, posturing in a way to threaten the shorter Shagrat.

Before things can escalate further, another male guard, this one a tall human with blonde hair with well honed muscle beneath a set of scale declares, "Aasif, do not act out of turn. You well should know they act at the behest of Mask Narsen. To strike at them would be to act against his wishes. You know very well we are to act as their hands in establishing their building. You not only threaten yourself, but us as well with your recklessness."

A third guard, a brunette woman with short hair and average height, standing a few inches over Aasif, stands ready in leather armor and wears a blade and crossbow on her side. "These are the guests of our kingdom and treating as you do now reflects poorly on us all. They have come here as trusted allies and we should treat them as such."

Aasif grits his teeth and seems ready to spit on the ground, a glare from the second guard is enough to halt it. Aasif continues to rant, "Petres!" he implores to the man, "Rakka!" he demands of the woman, "You think that the Mask would value the lives of this garbage ahead of our own?"

"It is not your choice to make," declares the familiar gravely voice from the rear of the room. Priest Lumley in robe and iron mask glares down from his pulpet, staring from up the few steps down upon the goblin. "The Mask of the Twelfth step has made his plan known and it has been approved by both Vision and Master. To oppose this would be heresy, he seethes for a moment taking a breath in as he turns up his masked face at Shagrat.

"It is our ..." he pauses another moment as he lingers and writhes in contempt for Shagrat before continuing, "our pleasure to serve at the best of the Pathfinder Society."

He holds for a moment opening his holy book as he barks out across the room, his strained voice demanding attention, "Until such a time you commit heresy so foul, that your betrayal of the Mask's trust enough to destroy all the favor you have been granted, we serve you, little Pathfinder."

"So how may we answer you this day? What do you want?" He holds position at the podium unwilling to give even the token position of power he holds.

Meadow to Sylvina

Sylvina watches the interaction play out between Meadow and Silence, she only makes a minor move to comfort some of the rodents within her garb as sh keeps a smile. She gives a bit of a chuckle hearing Meadow's dilemma. "I apologize, it is uncommon for someone to make a request for something I can't stock or make." She says this with the minor hope of drawing attention to her purchasable wares. "Years ago one of the children here, before family had to leave that is, asked me the same although that time to help claim a pet rat of their own."

"I have trained many a creature over the years, but typically my own pets, and not anything would would call 'giant.' Still I think I might be able help you with your goal as my time, at least for the near future, is yours for the bargained wage. If you wish to aid with their training, I will offer no complaint."

She will be able to work to help train the geckos

Zabu guffaws in answer to Sylvina. "Why would I need one of those," he says, gesturing at the love charms and potions, "when I've got all this?" he continues, gesturing down at his own face and body.

"There you go, Meadow. You have your pets."

The gnome picks up one of the healing potions. "I hope you know how to make these. When the lodge moves in, demand for them is going to skyrocket. I've got a couple on me right now."
