"then we must hurry!"
i think we are all in agreement that we are hurrying to Anevia's place
Cupradhal
"YES, INDEEDY. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE OFFER, HORGUS. THIS PLACE MIGHT DRAW ATTENTION, ESPECIALLY IF IT LOOKS EMPTY. MIGHT WANT TO HIDE YOUR VALUABLES AND FIND SOMEPLACE SECLUDED TO SLEEP."
Once everyone is ready, Coop moves off toward Anevia's house. He'll activate the wand of longstrider and take up the rear guard in the marching order.

"Aye, let us go 'fore the sun kisses the horizon"
Clancy will take point, searching for hazards, traps, and tracks.
George Soundtracker
George nods to Horgus as he takes his place in the middle.
"We will only have suitable people arrive during full daylight. If we come across proper authorities, we will let them know of your survival and offer."
Firas al-Adil
Firas will follow along behind Clancy, with his scimitar again lighting their way, and acting as a beacon to friends and foes alike.
GM Roxtar
The trek to Anevia's home is moderately straightforward. It is not that simple however. Moving further north from Horgus's manor, there is more and more debris littering the ground, including torn and sundered citizens and demons. The stench of rot and corruption fills the air. Anevia turns away once she realizes what she is staring at. Swarms of insects buzz around the area, feasting on the flesh of the fallen.
press on through, or search for a way around?
George Soundtracker
As long as we can get to Anevia's place before dark, George does not mind. He has toughened up a bit in the last few days, and he does not really know the victims. But she might be a little upset if she sees neighbors and coworkers.
Firas al-Adil
Well we were warned about a creature made of living maggots. If we are going to end up facing it today, best to do so earlier than later. so my vote is that we should heal up to full, and approach cautiously with weapons drawn, etc.
Cupradhal
"HUH. GROSS. YOU WANT TO TAKE ANOTHER ROUTE, ANEVIA?"
GM Roxtar
Looking to Coop, "Yes, perhaps this is not the best idea."
As Clancy scouts about for a nicer route, he is able to spot a better path just a bit to the east. Only a few blocks over, but devoid of the insects and not nearly as many corpses.
The alternate route does add a small bit of time to the trip, with Anevia showing the strain of walking on her injured leg, but there is also determination and excitement in her eyes.
"I think you will all really like Irabeth. She will probably get all shy about it, but she's an Eagle Knight and well liked in Kenabres."
Cupradhal
"AN EAGLE KNIGHT IN KENABRES? WAS SHE SENT HERE OFFICIALLY BY ANDORAN OR DID SHE VOLUNTEER FOR THE CRUSADE?"
George Soundtracker
"It will be good to get someone home to a loved one. First place was ransacked and most people gone. Second was abandoned and looted by those entrusted to its care. You need a little time to get that leg to heal up."

"I am boldened to hear of such powerful heroes present here at what is so clearly a time of need!"
GM Roxtar
Anevia beams proudly. "Irabeth was born here, but she left and headed south and east for a time. That's where we met. There was a bit of an incident, and she rescued me from some bad folks. We got to talking after the fighting, and I just knew, ya know? So, I came back to Kenabres with her to start our lives here"
Covering the remaining distance, the group arrives at Anevia's home. The houses here seem to be mostly in one piece. Two houses over, the building there has some scorch marks, but overall, all seems fine.
Cupradhal
"AH, WONDERFUL. AND THINGS APPEAR IN ORDER, HERE."
Watchful for any sign of ambush, Coop rests the morningstar on his shoulder and waits for the other shoe to drop.

Similarly paranoid, Firas begins to sweep the area for evil as they approach.

from the library to here, taking the long way around and the slow pace, looking to be around 30ish minutes.
Firas picks up on nothing
Cupradhal
"ALRIGHT, FOLKS, LET'S GET A MOVE ON."
Coop accompanies Anevia to the door.
Firas al-Adil
I detect nothing evil nearby. That is a good sign. he says reassuringly to Anevia.
GM Roxtar
Producing a small key, Anevia unlocks the door and steps inside, inviting the others to join. "Irabeth! I'm back! I brought some friends along, and boy do I have a story for you."
The inside of the home is relatively small and devoid of too many creature comforts, but it seems warm and inviting. There is however, no sign of anyone else at home.
"Well... shoot. It's not much, but you folks can stay here for the night if you'd like.." Her words trail off a bit, as suddenly, a tear appears in the ground, and a creature pulls itself through, snapping flaming mandibles at the injured woman.

Between Firas and Clancy, the damage overwhelms the creature and it falls to the ground, still glowing.
Clancy examines the critter, and determines that it is a Fire Beetle, though it seems to have been twisted or tainted by the Abyss somehow. Typically neutral vermin of small size, this one also appears to have resistance to cold and fire.
Anevia clutches at her wound and steps back out of the room, away from the bug. "What is that thing? How did it get in here?"

Coop, looks like you got swiped. You want to deal with it naturally, orally, or spell?"
since George is not omniscient, Lingering Performance will kick in and not spending rounds.
Firas al-Adil
Firas eyes the bug and ground it erupted from suspiciously, prodding the corpse with his scimitar.
(assuming nothing else happens before my init at 8) I am reactivating paladar, aiming my cone down at the ground this time

Keeping his bow at the ready, Clancy will cast Detect Magic and begin searching for magical fields.
"Anevia, what normally lies in that other room?"
GM Roxtar
Firas directs his smoldering gaze towards the ground, but does not sense anything out of the ordinary.
Clancy picks up on the presence of magic.
Responding to Coop and Clancy, "What, no, it just itches a bit? And that's our pantry." She walks over and opens the door. As she does, another bug appears. This one through a flaming hole by the ceiling. It immediately dive bombs at her.

Clancy is going to keep concentrating on Detect Magic to see if he picks up anything else.

"Wise counsel." Firas agrees with Coop and Clancy, then turns to Anevia.
"Some demonic forces are clearly at work here, and they are focused on you. Coop and Clancy can repel any further waves of these creatures, but I must get you to safety. Follow me outside, and take shelter under my shield."
Next round my intent is to move in tandem with Anevia. I move and ready and action to attack any creature that approaches her, while hopefully she moves with me and takes total defense.
George Soundtracker
"Take a chance on me" Last round of skald song, will most likely make new one next round.
George moves his fingers in a few quick gestures. "Installing Firewall". He then reaches past Firas to touch Anevia, then returns to his place in the middle of the room.

Firas swings his shiny sword, but the approach is awkward over the table and he misses. Coop however, doing Coop things, strikes hard and true, obliterating the flying critter. As it splashes on the wall, the remains burst into a cold flame, and then the ashes drift away on some unseen wind.
Anevia steps back out of that corner and makes her way slowly towards the door. i'd move Firas along with, but this is still the same round that you moved and attacked
Clancy concentrates further and notices that there are many auras in the area. Well over a dozen, including two that are rapidly fading, one on the ceiling and one on the floor. All of the auras are only faintly magical, with Enchantment being just slightly more powerful than the others.
George casts Prot Evil on Anevia as she moves next to him.
Then everyone hears the sounds of a spell being cast.
