Promotional Service Award (Promotional Boon)
You have proven your dedication to Paizo’s organized play program. This grants you the ability to swap out a boon during a scenario.
Prerequisites: Bring and display a qualifying campaign service award (i.e. campaign service coin or Wayfinder).
Benefit: You can reroll a single d20 roll you make during the course of the scenario. You must follow all the reroll rules as listed on page 243 of the Starfinder Core Rulebook when using this reroll.
Alternatively, once per session, by spending ten minutes (including as part of spending a Resolve Point to regain lost Stamina), you can swap out any one boon for another boon that occupies the same boon slot. You cannot use this ability to replace a slotted boon with a boon that uses up or take place during Downtime. You cannot use this ability if you’ve already used the reroll option provided by this boon.
Special: When a player uses a free reroll, she may present her Paizo Organized Play membership card (available on their My Organized Play page) and receive an additional +1 for every GM nova she has earned, for a maximum of a +5. Note, this bonus applies to the higher result of the reroll, not just the second roll.
This boon’s second ability overrides the standard rule that once a boon is slotted it cannot be changed.

Hi folks, @Gm thanks for running this. I would like to second the question from Scottybobotii. Are we planning to start this game now or in a week? I have Lvl 3 solarian that is finishing 2-13 (last fight) and should be freed within the week.
If you want to start now I may create a new PC (I am working on a skittermander concept).
Let me know

I'm happy to go now, or wait a week.
Advantage of now: School holidays so I can post a lot
Advantages of next week: Term time, so my posting will be at a more relaxed rate. And it sounds like that might let a couple of you take a more preferred character.

A dragonkin can form a permanent bond with one willing non-dragonkin creature. Once this bond is made, a dragonkin cannot form another partner bond unless its current partner dies. A dragonkin and its partner can communicate with each other as if they both had telepathy with a range of 100 feet. In combat, when a dragonkin is within 30 feet of its partner, both creatures roll initiative checks separately and treat the higher result as the result for both of them.
For reference, Dorm and I roll our Initiative separately but we both get the higher of the two and can telepathically communicate, within 100ft (30ft for initiative).

Also fine with waiting.

I'm here but have to catch my breath.

I'm planning on using my level 4 elf envoy. The scenario he is currently in could end today or tomorrow.
Emerald Cerulean Gold

And my internet went out last night as soon as I finished getting the kids down... Ugh.

ECG is level 2, for calculating tier, while I put his online sheet together in the sparse free moments at work.

While I'm at it, unless anyone knows of a place where this has been clarified by OP...
A creature with blindsight typically perceives using a specific sense, which is indicated in parentheses after the blindsight entry in the creature’s statistics. If the indicated sense somehow becomes unusable—say, for example, if a creature that uses scent to perceive through its blindsight loses its sense of smell—the creature loses access entirely to its blindsight. The typical senses through which creatures with blindsight can perceive are emotion, life, scent, sound, thought, and vibration.
If you have blindsight and succeed at a Perception check to notice a hidden creature, you are observing the creature. Blindsight negates concealment, displacement, invisibility, magical darkness, and similar effects, though a creature with blindsight still can’t perceive ethereal creatures (see the ethereal jaunt spell on page 354). A creature with blindsight cannot be blinded (see page 273) and is not subject to gaze attacks (see the Starfinder Alien Archive).
Blindsight is still limited in many ways compared to normal vision. Blindsight never allows a creature to distinguish color or visual contrast, though it might be able to make out other features depending on the sense. A creature cannot read written text with blindsight, though it could still use tactile communication. Blindsight works underwater and in fog or smoke, but it typically does not work in a vacuum (although this depends on the nature of the sense; for instance, emotion-based blindsight would work in a vacuum).
Blindsight is defined as a precise sense: Precise senses allow a creature to perceive the world in nuanced detail. For many creatures, the only precise sense they have is vision. Most other precise senses are collectively referred to as “blindsight,” indicating that they are precise like vision but creatures can use them without needing to see.
Specific sensing mechanisms are defined here: Creatures with blindsense or blindsight typically perceive using a specific sense mechanism, indicated in parentheses after blindsense or blindsight in the creature’s statistics. If this sense somehow becomes unusable, the creature loses access entirely to its blindsense or blindsight. The typical senses through which creatures can perceive are emotion, life, scent, sound, thought, and vibration.
So, there is table variation regarding what a khizar can "see" using blindsight (life).
Since none of the types are further defined (or limited in what they could be), I've viewed all blindsights exactly as defined above, as long as you possess the organ that does the sensing: you can "see" your environment and everything in it except you cannot distinguish color, contrast, or, by extension, written or displayed text/images.
I don't say, "You can't 'see' undead or robots or elementals or..." Some GMs do make a call about what creatures are "visible." Some--no PFS that I've seen--go so far as to say you can't even "see" your environment.
I've spent resources to accommodate both the written limitations (to an limited extent) and the variable limitations.
What is your ruling (unless OP has clarified, in which case I really want the link!).
Thanks.
| Shifty |
I haven't seen it clarified.
I've had it come up in play though.
"Khizars have no eyes or visual senses, other than the ability to perceive the presence or absence of light. Khizars have blindsense (vibration) and blindsight (life), each with a range of 30 feet. Khizars can’t speak and can communicate only via telepathy".
I simply took it that they can sense the 30' around them for all practical purposes, but they will only know there is a wall - they wont know that the wall is blue and has a warning sign on it.
GM Aerondor
|
I guess there are not too many Khizar who use sniper rifles.
For most purposes blindsight(vibration) would allow you to sense a creature touching the ground. Blindsight(life) would let you sense a flying opponent.
I'm not too sure how they would combine with terrain - I guess you would tap a root or something to pick up the vibrations from a wall.
Heck the whole thing about how they would even use a computer is pretty odd, unless it has a telepathic or tactile interface - which is presumably what some of them do have.
However such an extreme interpretation would make them pretty unplayable. I do note that it is only vision they lack, not smell, sound, touch or taste.
Unless you meet some flying undead, I don't think this will end up being an issue for you.
Emerald Cerulean Gold
|
Tactile/Braille interface is what I use for ubiquitous things like datapads and ship controls as well as voice/sound assist.
Vibration is only blindsense, which is why I spent a feat on it to be able to turn it into sight during combat.
EDIT: I also don't assume that anything outside of SFS (in game) or anything purchased necessarily has a braille interface.
Argiss Calinox
|
Khizars don't have eyes but I was thinking a Datajack implant for computers and such.
It does seem very difficult to play one.
Emerald Cerulean Gold
|
Based on the blurb, I don't think our ship matters, but if we shake out into high tier, I've got the Sunrise Maiden available.
| Scottybobotti |
Just letting everyone know I'm still here. My envoy is still stuck in his current scenario. It's going slower than I hoped even though I believe we are in the final encounter. If everyone is ready to go before he is available I will use a different PC.
Emerald Cerulean Gold
|
I'm not in a rush.
GM Aerondor
|
There is no spaceship combat as such, but you still get to pick a ship, and there are ... alterations... based on the ship you pick.
Emerald Cerulean Gold
|
I read the chronicle wrong, we can use it. It's the boost that only applies in subtier 3-4.
Let's see if I can paste it...
Speed 10; Maneuverability good (turn 1); Drift 1; AC 13; TL 13; HP 55; DT —; CT 11
Shields Light 60; forward 15, port 15, starboard 15, aft 15
Attack (Forward) gyrolaser (1d8); Attack (Port) light laser cannon (2d4); Attack (Starboard) light laser cannon (2d4); Attack (Aft) flak thrower (3d4); Attack (Turret) light particle beam (3d6)
Power Core Pulse Green (150 PCU); Drift Engine Signal Basic; Systems basic mid-range sensors, crew quarters (good), extra light weapon mount (aft), mk 3 armor, mk 3 defenses, mk 1 duonode computer (tier 1, artificial personality upgrade); Expansion Bays cargo holds (2), escape pods, recreation suite (HAC/gym)
Modifiers +1 to any 2 checks per round, +2 Computers, +1 Piloting; Complement 1–6
GM Aerondor
|
What the heck, why not. If everyone is keen, you can use that whether or not you end up in 3-4.

The boon does require unanimous agreement of the other players. I won't be offended if someone doesn't want to use it.

| Scottybobotti |
@Farol, I didn't realize that was you. I'm trying to get our game going as fast as it can go, but our GM is a busy guy and some of the other players take their time posting.
@GM Aerondor, Just let me know if you don't want to wait any longer. I don't want to hold us up too long. I can use my level 1 vanguard if need be.
I'm fine with the Sunrise Maiden also. Would we be at a slight disadvantage if we used it and were playing tier 3-4?
GM Aerondor
|
Nope, there is no Starship combat. Playing with the Sunrise maiden ... well.. it will mean a small variation, which is outside of what the scenario expected.
At first I thought I'd have to nix it, but I've found a way I can deal with the issue. You'll see what I mean when we get up to it.
Long and short, if you want the Sunrise maiden, then by all means, take it.
And no hurry to kick off. I've got three other games on the go, one of which is into its last battle- and it is a 7-10 game, so there are a mass load of moving parts, another is in its last battle, but that is spaceship combat. The third is about halfway through. With a bit of luck one or two of the other games will be finished by the time we start if we are slightly delayed.
I'll be a little erratic in my initial posting as school will have started again and the first week back will be busy.

Just prepping up a bit, ACL calc
Verco/Farol - 2
Cavaler/Scoty - 4
Dorm/PaleDim - 1
Emerald/Blake - 2
Argus/Eclipse - 2
Blinky/shifty - 3
Total of 2+4+1+2+2+3=14/6=2 1/3 > tier 1-2
Cavaler / Blinky are you okay with OOT credits?

I vote down so the L1 doesn’t get 1-shot (and I don’t get two shot) but also so we have a decent shot at any skill DCs.

And (no surprising here given the survival tag)
Could you please make sure you have [b]all[/n] your equipment listed on your character sheet.
Now, some specific questions so I know how your characters work
@Blinky - your survival check is listed at +11, I assume that is for trick attacks, but normally it is only +7?
Which skills are your library chips for?
@Argiss, how does the enforcement pole give you a 20' reach? I think that should be 15'
@Emerld, you may have to explain some Vanguard features to me as we go.

•3 ranks
•Ability Bonus (-1): Wisdom 9 (-1)
•Insight Bonuses (+3): Skill Focus
•Racial Bonuses (+2): Natural Survivor

It is +15 on trick attack.

My character sheet on the Paizo website is not up to date. However, there is a link in my tagline to my up to date character sheet and the tagline itself is also updated.
