== Summary ==

Intent on creating opportunity and access to Apostae’s hidden technology for others outside of the power structure of the Drow houses. He does not like being pushed around, but is good at working with people.

== Background ==

In the structure of Apostae society there are the many lowly miners who extract ancient technologies from the chambers and tunnels under the surface, and then there are the noble Drow of the controlling houses who extract the economic benefit and power of those resources. Engineers and scientists determine the path that these resources take and maintain relative comfort, but ultimately support the power imbalance. Generally this “middle” class has just enough to lose that they can be kept in line to keep the engine running.

Dorm always felt out-of-place in this structure, most likely due to being a half-orc and so not feeling like the uniform part that a conventional drow would represent. In early life he aimed to study to be a scientist and build a comfortable life that seemed the best option since he didn’t have the blood necessary to play in the high-powered rat-race of Drow nobility. Also, it's what his parents did and they predictably pushed him along that safe path.

It all came crashing down when, near his graduation. Dorm made a grand archaeological find [TODO what? Direct evidence of the existence of the ilee?] and it would make for a spectacular senior thesis presentation. While he was a generally interactive classmate and colleague, he wrote about it in secret and developed his theories about it without the usual build up of achievement.

Three months before senior presentations (which come just before graduation), Dorm's archaeological item turned up missing. In the subsequent days the son of a high-ranking Drow noble [TODO name? Brief characterization] began talking openly about the progress of his own senior thesis, and how it involved an item that sounded suspiciously like Dorm's. The incensed half-orc made the mistake of confronting the noble son about this. The charismatic Drow deflected and countered with veiled threats. The threats soon became very real in the form of constant, anonymous harassment and the deterioration of his academic relationships and career.

As the threats escalated Dorm found that he needed to leave campus, and Nightarch altogether leaving only brief notes for his family to be encouraged that he is alive and well. He makes for Crater Town, where he intends to build a business around independent discovery, but soon finds the long reach of Drow houses doesn’t really exclude this relatively new settlement. So… he takes to infiltrating their businesses and redirecting mined technology to smaller research shops. [TODO much more detail here, but basically a “robin hood” of the Apostae economy].
