On the top deck of the Kingfisher, Venture-Captain Muesello wipes the grease off his hands onto a rag. The pockmarked mechanist spent the early morning running a chain through a twelve-foot tall clockwork contraption mounted on the deck. Stuffing the dirty rag into his smock, he turns to address the group.
“I’m sure you’ve guessed this isn’t just a fishing trip. I would have filled you in sooner, but I was asked to keep everything confidential until we arrived. An expedition of Pathfinder initiates recently discovered this uncharted island, Burozi. The recruits found some Azlanti ruins, and we have a special assignment for your team.”
Muesello turns to the shore just five hundred feet from the moored ship, the peak of the island barely visible against the orange glow of the morning sun behind it. He clicks open an intricate compass, and its needle snaps to the direction of the island.
“Open your wayfinder, and you’ll see the same thing. This close to Burozi, all wayfinders point toward the island. As for the one in my hand here, this was found on Burozi—I’ve never seen one quite like it. The expedition team found it near a sealed hatch made out of reinforced skymetal. They couldn’t get in, which might have been for the best. The recruits were inexperienced, and Azlanti devices can be incredibly dangerous! But you’ve got more experience under your belts, so I need you to find a way through that sealed door and investigate whatever is on the other side.”
With a reassuring nod, Muesello returns to his work, meticulously checking each bolt as crew members emerge from below and begin preparing a sailboat for passage to the island.
Iniquity Pen

"An uncharted island? How exciting! Who named it?" Iniquity asks with eagerness. Sweat beads on his forehead, dressed as he is in a gambeson. He runs his hand through his dark hair. "I trust we'll have time to don our armor on the island. Does that local wayfinder have any interaction with the door?"
Maithias aka Frogger
|
This is exciting indeed! I have never seen anything like this before. Frogger looks at his wayfinder. Did the other Pathfinder team find anything else on this island? Things we need to watch out for?
As Frogger speaks, a vine seems to crawl up his hand. Oh yes, this is my familiar Viney. Say hi Viney. The vine leshy doesn't speak out loud but will wave one of it's vines. It too looks at the wayfinder and shrugs.
Namza
|
Namza raises an eyebrow and points at the wayfinder. "Azlanti treasure can be useful, but, like most powerful things, they're dangerous if not understood."
He looks out over the island. "Did the expedition find anything else of note? Where did they find the wayfinder?"
Orin_Thunderstone
|
Game complete, thanks all for waiting
Orin grumbles a bit as he listens to the briefing, his full plate sitting evenly on his dwarven frame.
Orin then pulls out his Wayfinder, lifts the fancy over engraved with OT and sees if it points the same direction.
| Kyra Lv3 |
"A whole hatch made out of skymetal? That vault must hold something precious indeed. No clue as to its contents could be uncovered in the ruins?"
Kyra smiles toward Viney and raises her fingers in a small gesture of greeting. "May the light of the Dawnflower shine upon you, Viney."

"I trust we'll have time to don our armor on the island. Does that local wayfinder have any interaction with the door?"
“See for yourself. After a week tinkering with this thing, I still can’t get it to do more than this.” Muesello speaks the command word and the wayfinder emits a small blue light. He hands the wayfinder over to Iniquity Pen. “Feel free to use it. You might need it.”
This is exciting indeed! I have never seen anything like this before. Frogger looks at his wayfinder. Did the other Pathfinder team find anything else on this island? Things we need to watch out for?
“Use a sailboat to get to the island, then just follow that wayfinder. The reports didn’t mention anything dangerous, but you never know.”
Orin pulls out his own wayfinder and is surprised when it also points towards the island. Something strange is happening indeed.
"A whole hatch made out of skymetal? That vault must hold something precious indeed. No clue as to its contents could be uncovered in the ruins?"
“They were too inexperienced to get much further, best for you all to go in clean, without any preconceptions of what you might find. But let’s just say the Decemvirate are very interested in this site.” All of you are aware that the Decemvirate are the 10 enigmatic leaders of the Pathfinder Society.
Now is a good time to slot your boons, gather your school items and you each get 1 Hero Point to start with.
| Kyra Lv3 |
"Sounds like we should be ready for anything." As the party prepares to switch to a smaller vessel, Kyra gathers her equipment and makes sure everything is in working order - particularly her trusty scimitar and scale mail. Looking over the armor, she shrugs. "Iniquity, you have the right of it. Wouldn't do to fall off the boat and have the armor drag us down."
AC is 16 while unarmored.
Fangor The Masked
|
Fangor is clearly a cleric of Razmir, his silver mask hides his feature and transforms his voice. Heavy gray robes masks his frame so it's difficult to clearly distinguish his height or frame. Nevertheless, his voice seems to be quite aged, almost a murmur, but very melodious and entertaining. Only his pointy ears that appears from time to time betray is elven heritage.
His immaculate white glove hands are clearly delicate and manipulate with ease the wayfinder he have in hand, engraved with an intricate F.
With his small and melodious voice he says It's quite interesting. Ancient Azlant, Wayfinders... I'm glade to be part of this expedition.
I will see that Razmir power help us get back in one piece.
Be sure that the Living God is watching us.
Turning to a young boy, in robes but without a mask, he says Come Ishmael. It's time for you to get your first mission.
The young boy is transporting Fangor's equipment.
Namza

"A very exciting prospect. We might push our understanding of wayfinders to a new level.
Namza puts a hand on his wayfinder and considers the possibility.
GM Tyranius

The boat ride to the island is quite uneventful. Getting to shore many of you don your armor and tighten the straps on your weapons, not quite sure what to expect.
The excavated ruins of a tower rise from halfway up the island’s sloping peak. All that remains of the tower is a semi-circle of white wall holding back centuries of dirt and debris. The skymetal hatch lies dead center in the
tower’s foundation. The 5-foot-wide hatch is decorated in thin silver filigree resembling gears in the shape of an eye.
At the center of the eye is a socket that is obviously the same size and shape as the wayfinder you received from Muesello.
Holding out the wayfinder Iniquity Pen realizes that it is glowing a brightly blue light, same as it did on the ship. A woman’s voice emits from the direction of the door. "Σύστημα ασφαλείας Εντοπίστηκε δυσλειτουργία. Εισαγωγή σήματος και επαναφέρετε τους ενεργοποιητές σε κατάσταση λειτουργίας αποφύγετε περαιτέρω πρωτόκολλα ασφαλείας."
Glowing numbers then appear on the door and begin counting down from 30.

"Uh oh. Seems like we should hurry. Did anyone understand that woman? And what about this curious iconography?"

Iniquity takes the ancient wayfinder from Muesello and fiddles with it while the others finish with their discussion. "This is lovely piece of craftsmanship,"[b] he commends and then asks the others, [b]"Do your wayfinders shine blue light?"
---
On the shore, he plants his glaive in the ground while he dons his chain and plate armor. "Why do I keep getting loaded onto a boat?" he asks rhetorically and then chuckles. "Probably because I joined a society dedicated to exploring the world that is based on a tiny island."
---
"Well, this is magnificent," Iniquity says as he admires the workmanship on the door. He startles a little when the door speaks and arches a single eyebrow. "Azlanti was not particularly useful on the stage, but that counting down does not bode well."
He makes a leap of faith and places the wayfinder in the wayfinder-shaped slot.
GM Tyranius
|
When the wayfinder is slotted into the hatch, the blue colored light in the wayfinder activates and spreads down silver circuits 100 feet in each cardinal direction before reaching panels built along the perimeter of the ruined structure. The hatch lock is controlled by four actuators built into the tower’s foundation. Each contains one aeon stone and several electro-thaumaturgic fuses. To open the door, you must activate each of the four actuators.
You have 30 seconds (5 rounds) to complete all of these. They have multiple successes that are needed.

Iniquity figures it out just in time before the countdown ends. The hatch opens with a sharp hiss of air. You descend a spiral staircase into a sparkling clean underground workshop. The complex is well-lit by bright recessed lights.
Only one of the rooms below seems to be accessible. As you reach the bottom of the stairs the door swings open. The floor in this chamber is frozen. Excavation was halted when an earthquake caused minor flooding. Inside are a pair of humanoid-shaped constructs built from wood, metal, and magic. They wobble about as they look towards the noise of the door opening in a threatening manner.
The frozen floor is uneven and considered difficult terrain. DC 18 Acrobatics to balance. Creatures that critically succeed on this check cannot move at full speed unless they can normally move at full speed through difficult terrain.

Ceiling sprinklers set into the ceiling will likely be set off if any flames burst into the vicinity.
