Mitsuru Hisakawa |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"Easy as pie," Mitsuru says, scanning for signs of a trap or ambush as she steps up to the door.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 +1 vs magical traps
Disable Device: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Disable Device Round 2: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
"Then again, I never was much of a baker," she mutters, struggling with the lock for several seconds.
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
A short hallway leads to another door, behind which lies the kitchen. . .(V4)
Stone pillars support the ceiling over this large kitchen— although the fire pits, tables, and pantries here look like they haven’t been used in decades. Thick layers of dust cover everything in the room.
There are a single and double doors to the south, and doors to the east and west (in addition to the door to the north you entered through.
Mitsuru Hisakawa |
Mitsuru looks around the room with an expression of apprehension. "Creepy."
Jiro Fire-Raven |
Peering over Mitsuru's shoulder, Jiro blinks his birdlike eyes as they dart around the room, alert for danger. "Not especially. Mostly just dusty," he adds her observation.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Talios Yintargo |
Talios waits at the rear listening for any trouble ahead and double checking the rooms the come across.
"Creepy? I hope that isn't a creature you are remarking on." he whispers up to the others.
Rin Kaijitsu |
Are there footprints in the dust to suggest any traffic? If so, I vote we check that out. If not, I vote the West door in V4. I prefer to go circular and clear out the areas behind us as possible in dungeons.
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
No- nothing seems to suggest recent traffic/use of this room. Other than a few long abandoned dishes there's nothing much here at all
Mitsuru Hisakawa |
Mitsuru steps up next to Rin at the door in question, still looking for any traps that might be waiting for them.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 = 28
If there is a trap, or if the door is locked, I'll take 10 on my Disable Device check for a result of 21 (22 if it's a magical trap).
Emili Vhaddruddr |
Emili stands in the center of the room, whip in hand as he watches his companions work on un-securing the door. "Well, at least this part of the castle looks properly unoccupied," he whispers.
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Seeing nothing at this door, you open it and reveal a small hallways leading to another door.
You see no traps here, and the handle turns as though it is unlocked, but it seems to be swollen shut from the age and moisture.
Need a DC 16 STR check to break it open, or 15 Damage against 5 hardness
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Pending STR check or attack roll to open the door currently.
Mitsuru Hisakawa |
"Hey, Talios!" Mitsuru calls back. "This door's stuck, but you're pretty strong. Lend us a hand?"
Rin Kaijitsu |
FYI if this post goes through, I've been having issues with posts going through.
"Wait, let's explore more before we make a racket kicking a door down."
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Yeah, I know it seems like people are having rolling issues getting in; if you redirect to a different door let me know which
Mitsuru Hisakawa |
Mitsuru shrugs, then backs away from the door. "Fair enough. Let's check this one," she says, heading around the corner to the right.
Perception for traps: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 or 19 if magical
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Seeing no traps, Mitsuru opens the door, and as she does a disgusting stench wafts through, enveloping her and Talios!

Round 1
Turn Order:
1. Jiro
2. Emili
3. Talios
4. Mitsuru
5. Kage
6. Red Oni/Rin
7. Troglodytes
Everyone can act before the Troglodytes; when you move into a radius on them you need to make the DC 13 fortitude save.
Jiro Fire-Raven |
Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
"Oho, what have we--gack!" Jiro hops from foot to foot as the grotesque odor washes over him, but still manages to choke out a prayer to Shizuru.
Bless!
Rin Kaijitsu |
Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
K. Local: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
As the foul smell of the lizard like creatures washed over her, Rin was once again thankful for her mask. Moving forward, she threw a shuriken at the nearest foe.
Move action, Standard action attack green trog.
Shuriken; Bless: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 1 = 21
Piercing: 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Hidden Strike: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
Mitsuru Hisakawa |
Fortitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Local: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 9 - 2 = 8
Mitsuru wails in horror as her sensitive nose is assaulted by the creatures' stench. Before retreating from the door, she calls a blob of acid into her hand and flings it at Rin's target.
Acid Splash: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 9
Acid damage: 1d3 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + (6, 1) = 9
Kage Kurai |
Kage holds back, seeing how the others are reacting. But he does fire a splash of acid at the one creature he can se.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Acid Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Emili Vhaddruddr |
Fortitude vs Green: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Fortitude vs Red: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Emili gags, but still pushes into the doorway and cracks his whip. Aiming at the northern creature, he tries to pull it off its feet.
Whip, Trip, Bless, Sickened: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 17
Move and Trip Red.
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Round 1
Jiro becomes sickened and casts bless.
Emili trips red, but he too succumbs tot he sickness.
Botting Talios
Talios steps to the side and fires two arrows at green:
Bow Flurry: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Bow Flurry: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 one hit!
Rin moves and her shurkin finishes that troglodyte!
That puts Mitsuru and Kage without targets in range/line of sight for Acid splash- you can add an extra move action to your round 2 actions
The Troglodytes flee, (purple_ opening a door) while Red stands and moves and blue double moves, retreating into the hallway.
Turn Order:
1. Jiro
2. Emili
3. Talios
4. Mitsuru
5. Kage
6. Red Oni/Rin
7. Troglodytes
Status: =5
Emili: sickened 9 rounds
Jiro: sickened 9 rounds
Mitsuru: sickened 9 rounds
That brings up the party for round 2
Jiro Fire-Raven |
"Oh blessed Heavens, I can taste it!" Jiro draws his katana and level it at the foe. "Will they smell even worse dead? I rather doubt it, but let us find out! At them, heroes!"
Draw weapon, Inspire Courage
Mitsuru Hisakawa |
Against her better judgment, Mitsuru forces herself further into the room. She runs a wide arc around the fallen troglodyte, preparing to stab down at the fallen monster once one of her comrades arrives to help her. "Oni, give me a hand with this one!"
Piercing damage: 3d6 + 3 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (6, 2, 2) + 3 + 1 - 2 = 12
Rin Kaijitsu |
Not sure if we have to roll for each trog's stench separately so rolling a fort for Purple's.
Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Her shuriken landing in the throat of her target, Rin continued forward. As Mitsuru moved to flank the purple Troglodyte, Rin rolled under its field of vision before slashing the Whispering Shrike across the creature's ankles. "My hands are full, but how about two feet!"
Move action, standard action attack purple.
Wakizahi; Flanking, Bless: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 20
Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Hidden Strike: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
Emili Vhaddruddr |
Emili gives chase, flicking his whip at either the surrounded lizard-man or their fleeing companion. He looks like he’d love to give some witty quip, but is focusing on keeping his breakfast down instead.
Whip, Trip, Bless, Sickened: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 27
Either Purple or Red if Purple is already down (moving as needed).
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Round 2
Jiro adds Inspire courage.
Emili trips purple. Red is down the hallway already
Rin and Mitsuru flank the now downed troglodyte, and with two quick slices kill it.
And with that the troglodytes that are left alive have fully retreated down the hallway.
Turn Order:
1. Jiro
2. Emili
3. Talios
4. Mitsuru
5. Kage
6. Red Oni/Rin
7. Troglodytes
Status:
Emili: sickened 8 rounds
Jiro: sickened 8 rounds
Mitsuru: sickened 8 rounds
That would bring up the party again- if you press the attack following the troglodytes down the hallway we will stay in initiative, if you pull back/don't immediately follow it would drop us out of combat
Rin Kaijitsu |
"Quick, before it can organize a counter attack!" Rin shouted before chasing after the fleeing troglodyte.
Rin goes last so feel free to stop her if we want to hold back.
Emili Vhaddruddr |
"Yep." Emili continues to play the Strong and Silent type as he hurries after the fleeing troglodyte. Reaching the corner, he considers his options.
If there's someone nearby, Emili will try to trip them. If an enemy within 15 ft has a two-handed weapon, he'll try to disarm them. If an enemy within 15 ft is casting a spell, he'll attack in an attempt to make them lose concentration.
Possible Slashing damage, Sickened: 1d3 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 2 = 3
Mitsuru Hisakawa |
Just waiting to see what gets uncovered so I can tell what I'm running into.
Jiro Fire-Raven |
"A sensible approach," Jiro's head bobs in agreement when he sees Mitsuru hanging back, assessing the situation. "Let us see what falls from the tree when they finish shaking it, hmm?"
End Performance, delay
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
As Emili gets further into the cave, in the next room he is faced with the fleeing troglodyte, but joined by four more troglodytes- one of which looks much nastier than the others!
Emili Vhaddruddr |
With his relatively safe position, Emili prepares to trip up anyone who approaches.
Readied action to Trip if an enemy gets within 15 ft.
Whip, Trip, Bless, Sickened: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 28
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Unless anyone moves forward towards the room, the troglodytes seem to be holding in place inside their retreat.
Mitsuru Hisakawa |
Moving quietly, Mitsuru slips in behind Emili, ready to ambush any enemies that come around the corner.
Hide, moving at half speed: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 9 - 2 = 17
Acid: 1d3 + 2d6 - 2 ⇒ (3) + (4, 1) - 2 = 6
Rin Kaijitsu |
Rin took up position behind Emili. "We can't wait them out, for all we know they already have reinforcements on the way. I can turn invisible and get the drop on the big one. Everyone get ready and give me a few moments to get into position."
Swift action Vanishing Trick, double move action.
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Round 3
Rin vanishes and moves into the room, filled with even worse stench than before. So you are supposed to save vs. each trog's stench individually, so Rin would need to make a 6 saves to avoid sickened here.
Not seeing her, the Trogs wait in the room, looking for targets.
Turn Order:
1. Jiro
2. Emili
3. Talios
4. Mitsuru
5. Kage
6. Red Oni/Rin
7. Troglodytes
Status:
Emili: sickened 7 rounds
Jiro: sickened 7 rounds
Mitsuru: sickened 7 rounds
Everyone can act for round 4 now; those who didn't move forward in round 3 can still use your move/double move for that round and take a round 4 action
I know Talios might still be out, so after everyone else moves, I'll advance him if he's not back- he probably wants to set up near the doorway to shoot arrows
Emili Vhaddruddr |
Emili rubs a few tears from his eyes at the force of overwhelming stench coming from the room in front of him. Slowly moving forward, he cracks his whip yet again and tries to bring the large trog down to the ground.
Whip, Trip, Bless, Sickened: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 19
Unless it's wielding a weapon - then he'll try to Disarm it with a +2 bonus.
Mitsuru Hisakawa |
Fort Save #1: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 - 2 = 10
Fort Save #2: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 - 2 = 3
Fort Save #3: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 - 2 = 19
Fort Save #4: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 - 2 = 6
Fort Save #5: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 - 2 = 4
Gagging as she enters the room, Mitsuru still steps up to watch Emili's back, and stabs the nearest of the creatures to the door.
Rapier vs Red: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 2 = 16
Piercing: 1d6 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 - 2 = 5
Sneak attack, if I was hidden to him: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9 Total of 14
Rin Kaijitsu |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Rin appeared out of thin air as she slashed at the leader with both her blades before quickly rolling back to place her back to the wall.
Curse your stench troglodytes! Full attack Trog leader, 5ft step
Whispering Shrike vs FF AA; Sickened, Invisible, Duel Wield: 1d20 + 6 - 2 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 2 + 2 - 2 = 21
Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Hidden Strike: 2d8 ⇒ (8, 8) = 16
Cold Iron Wakizashi (vs FF AA?); Sickened, Duel Wield: 1d20 + 6 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 - 2 - 2 = 4
Slashing: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Hidden Strike: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Round 3
Advancing Jiro, Talios, and Kage to bring them into the fight
Emili cracks his whip and pulls the very nice looking morningstar out of the trog leader's claws!
Mitsuru catches one trog unaware and drops him with a stab!
Rin appears, and her well aimed strike drops the trog leader to the floor as well!
Two of the trogs are close enough to step up and full attack the Red Oni!
Club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Bite: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (13) - 3 = 10
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Claw: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (5) - 3 = 2
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Bite: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (13) - 3 = 10
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Claw: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (20) - 3 = 17
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4 One catches her with his claw!
Another can step up and full attack Emili:
Club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Bite: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (4) - 3 = 1
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Claw: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (2) - 3 = -1
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
And the last rushes at Emili:
Club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 miss!
Turn Order:
1. Jiro
2. Emili
3. Talios
4. Mitsuru
5. Kage
6. Red Oni/Rin
7. Troglodytes
Status:
Emili: sickened 6 rounds
Jiro: sickened 6 rounds
Mitsuru: sickened 6 rounds
Rin: 25/29, sickened 9 rounds
That brings up the entire party for round 4
Mitsuru Hisakawa |
Mitsuru runs through a gap in the line of trogs, moving to flank one of Rin's attackers. She does her best to dodge the incoming strikes and run her target through just like the last one. "I've got your back!" she says to the ninja. "Or his, at least!"
Rapier vs Orange, Flanked: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 2 - 2 = 16
Damage with Sneak Attack: 1d6 + 2d6 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (6) + (5, 3) + 3 - 2 = 15
Emili Vhaddruddr |
Emili blinks - either from the stench or from astonishment at the speed with which his companions took down the larger troglodyte - before shrugging and turning his attention to the the smaller reptile-men trying to nibble on him. He bends his whip back, then swings it around low to the ground to wrap around the troglodyte's legs before pulling it sharply.
Whip, Trip, Bless, Sickened vs Orange: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 11
Trip vs Orange because it'll provoke an AoO to trip an adjacent creature and Emili doesn't want to expose Talios to melee. If Orange is already down, Emili will just make an attack against Blue with a -2 penalty to the above roll for the following damage:
Potential Slashing damage: 1d3 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Rin Kaijitsu |
Seems like Mitsuru dropped orange so 5ft step and full attack purple.
Whispering Shrike; Sickened, TWF: 1d20 + 6 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 - 2 - 2 = 3
Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Cold Iron Wakizashi; Sickened, TWF: 1d20 + 6 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 - 2 - 2 = 12
Slashing: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Rin went to quip back at Mitsuru, but a fresh breath of trog stench proved too much. Unable to pull her mask back in time, sick flowed from the bottom as the young woman wildly swung in an attempt to not leave herself open.
Kage Kurai |
I an see 4 trogs. 4 saves, right?
Fortitude: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Fortitude: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Fortitude: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Fortitude: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
I forget what the DC was, but I'm sure I failed at least once.
Kage seems to dissolve into shadow. Activating my Dissolution's Child racial ability: Once per day, you may change your appearance to look as if you were little more than a 4-foot-tall area of shadow. Your physical form still exists and you are not incorporeal—only your appearance changes. This works like invisibility, except it only lasts 1 round per level (maximum 5 rounds). This is a supernatural ability. This racial trait replaces shadow magic.
This shadow moves, (hopefully) blending in with all the other shifting shadows in the room. GM, in your judgement am I flanking with Emili now? That's what I'm going for. Also, do I neeed to roll to avoid the AOO since hopefully the trog can't really see me move through his threatened area?
Jiro Fire-Raven |
Fort #1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Fort #2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
A bit better fortified against the stench this time, Jiro leans around the corner and shouts encouraging words into the room.
Inspire Courage!
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Round 4
Jiro inspires courage.
Emili misses tripping one trog.
Assuming Talios is still out; botting attack sequence for him here
Flurry, IC: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 1 = 17
Flurry, IC: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 = 14
Damage, two shots: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (8, 8) + 2 = 18
And he takes down one trog.
With Rin distracting the Troglodyte, Mitsuru's blade carves him to pieces!
Kage moves in, shadowy form protecting him from the Trog's site, and flanks with Emili.
Rin steps over to one of the remaining Troglodytes, but her strikes are misaimed.
The final two troglodytes howl in rage and attack!
At Rin:
Club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Claw: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (17) - 3 = 14
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Bite: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (19) - 3 = 16
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2 narrowly missing!
At Emili:
Club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Claw: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (2) - 3 = -1
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Bite: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (5) - 3 = 2
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3 missing!
Turn Order:
1. Jiro
2. Emili
3. Talios
4. Mitsuru
5. Kage
6. Red Oni/Rin
7. Troglodytes
Status:
Emili: sickened 5 rounds
Jiro: sickened 5 rounds
Mitsuru: sickened 5 rounds
Rin: 25/29, sickened 8 rounds
Kage: sickened 9 rounds
That brings up everyone again!
Mitsuru Hisakawa |
Mitsuru pushes through the queasiness in her stomach, spurred on in part by her feathered friend's motivational speech. She lands behind the troglodyte menacing Rin, and stabs her rapier into his back and out his chest. She gags at the smell and pulls her weapon free.
Rapier vs Purple: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 19
Piercing, Sneak Attack: 1d6 + 2d6 + 3 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (3) + (4, 4) + 3 + 1 - 2 = 13
Rin Kaijitsu |
Her stomach still churning, Rin unleased a flurry of blows against the trog that her and Mitsuru were flanking.
