Frozen Flame + Dragon's Demand

Great work!

Vetch lashes out with magic, BGG slashes with his teeth, and Uhtred puts the finishing touches on the alchemist with a critical hit!

The alchemist's dagger clatters to the floor, and she slumps to the ground herself.

You are safe, for now, but what of Etran's Folly?

Alchemist's Gear:
Alchemical crossbow, belt pouch (2 pp, 38 gp, 4 sp), bracers of missile deflection, daggers (2), key, leather armor, lesser potion of fire resistance, lesser juggernaut mutagen, lesser stone body mutagen, +1 striking dagger. (There are some other infused alchemical items, but they are useless to you.)

Alchemical crossbow: This crossbow can deliver alchemically infused bolts. The strange weapon has a metal bracket mounted on the side of the stock near the lath. As an action, you can load a single lesser alchemical bomb into the bracket; this bomb must be one that deals energy damage (such as an acid flask, alchemist’s fire, bottled lightning, frost vial, or thunderstone). The next three attacks made with the crossbow deal 1d6 damage of the bomb’s damage type in addition to the crossbow’s normal damage. If the second and third attacks are not all made within 1 minute of the first attack, the bomb’s energy is wasted. These attacks never deal splash damage or other special effects of the bomb and are not modified by any abilities that add to or modify a bomb’s effect. The addition of the bracket serves to unbalance the weapon, reducing its range to 30 feet. It otherwise functions as a crossbow (when determining damage, reload, and so on). Creatures use their crossbow proficiency when using the alchemical crossbow. The alchemical crossbow costs 25 gp.

Frozen Flame + Dragon's Demand

I'm assuming based on your conversation that you all are not stopping to rest on the way back.

There is still a grim possibility that the town of Etran’s Folly is now a town filled with the dead and dying. Miles pass, minutes turn to hours, and finally the unsuspecting village grows ever closer. There is no sign of the minion, but that only adds to a growing sense of dread. Etran’s Folly comes into view at the crest of a hill. The alchemical drudge is now approaching its final destination—the plaguestone—where it will carry out its final gruesome command from its mistress!

With your determined march through the forest, you manage to beat the minion to the stone--as you reach the center of town you can see that the creature is about 100 ft. away from the plaguestone. Your forced march tired you out, but perhaps you are still in time to avert disaster!

Everyone is fatigued: You take a –1 status penalty to AC and saving throws.

Looks like you were in time!

Hearing the sound of spellcasting and the *twang* of a crossbow, some of the people of Etran's Folly rush into the main square.

Delma is in the lead, followed close behind from Tamli, who emerges from behind the inn where she was consulting with your caravan mates. Finally, after checking that it is safe, Sheriff Rolth joins the gropu of onlookers.

"Where have you been?" asks Delma. "And what was that thing?!"

Tamli asks if you have found out anything about Bort's murder.

Yes, milady. It seems that Bort was the last victim of the old plague. You'll recall the, ahem, herbalist named Vilree? She was blamed for the plague by some townsfolk? Well, her daughter was a master alchemist and wanted to take revenge for what she perceived were slights against her family. She was poisoning the forest and had planned to kill you good people. Bort was apparently an unwitting accomplice in that he was selling her alchemical reagents, which she used in her scheme. Killing him was a way of keeping her plans secret.

I am heartily sorry for our master's complicity--however unknowing--in this scheme. I hope you won't take it out on the caravan.

Sheriff Rolph replies, "Mystery solved! Good work everyone. Delma, I'll be in the inn, waiting for lunch." He trundles off, ineffectually.

Delma and Tamli are both more attentive. Delma thanks you profusely and says, "You are welcome to stay at may inn any time--free of charge! We are so lucky that you were here to save us. Sometimes the events of the past echo into the present. It's hard to think that someone would want to kill everyone in town, but I'm also shocked that the townsfolk drove away that young alchemist so long ago."

Tamli, of few words, as usual, says, "Thank you. Knowing doesn't bring Bort back, but it does bring me peace. Please, would you join us tonight to give him a proper funeral?"

She leaves to inform the other caravan members and make arrangements.

You have the opportunity to rest for the afternoon, and as the sun sets Tamli knocks on your door to invite you to the funeral.

She leads you to a shaded spot in the back of the inn's property--no doubt donated by Delma. A lantern hangs on a pole, and your old compatriots are gathered around a rectangle of freshly-turned earth.

Tamli starts by saying, "In spite of any shady deals he might have made over the years with questionable characters, Bort was genuinely kind and fair to all those who rode with him." Tamli sheds more than a few tears as she says goodbye and attempts to make peace with the situation.

Olf and Ulf Redfren opine that they'll miss his stories the most. "Probably full of it...but they passed the long hours on the road. No one could spin a yarn ike old Bort."

Taciturn Glunda says nothing, and merely lays a pretty bouquet of local wildflowers on the grave.

Cooky has no doubt seen many of his friends pass in the course of his long days. He sedately says, "Now, there was a dwarf who could put away a breakfast."

The teamsters look at you expectantly, pausing in case you would like to say a few words.

Master Bort was a good man. He was a fair merchant, which is more than one can ask for, and I like to think it was his penchant for mischief as much as his drive for profit that got him involved with that alchemist. "Thank you again for all that you do. I plan on taking the caravan the rest of the way to Almas. I know most of our old contacts, so we should easily be able to find enough business to remain profitable. You are more than welcome to continue with us, though I know this journey has already turned out to be more than you signed up for."

She retrieves a small lockbox from a high shelf and opens it. Inside are six fine-looking rings.

"Bort loved his jewelry. This seems like a fitting reward for your efforts. I believe some of these are rare and magical. Please, take one for bringing his kills to justice."

Wearing this ring grants you a +2 item bonus to Deception and Diplomacy checks, but only if the associated checks involve haggling or bargaining over a purchase or trade.
Activate [[three-actions] (envision, interact); Effect You can determine if an item is magical simply by handling it. You detect no other indication of its power, only whether or not it is magical, granting the effects of a 1st-level detect magic spell that affects only the object.

Ring of Minor Arcana:

RING OF MINOR ARCANA ITEM 5
UNCOMMON ARCANE EVOCATION INVESTED
Price 160 gp
Usage worn; Bulk —
This rose-gold ring is adorned in the center by a somewhat ominous-looking horned skull. This ring gives you the power to cast the following innate arcane cantrips any number of times each day: detect magic, mage hand, and prestidigitation. Each is cast as a 1st-level spell. If you are an arcane spellcaster, these can instead be heightened to the level of your cantrips.

Ring of the Weary Traveler:

RING OF THE WEARY TRAVELER ITEM 5
UNCOMMON TRANSMUTATION INVESTED
Price 160 gp
Usage worn; Bulk —
This fanciful golden ring has an ornate band cast with delicate, swirling decorations and is inlaid with three bright-green emeralds. While wearing this ring, you gain a +10-foot item bonus to your Speed, but only when determining your overland movement per hour.
Activate [three-actions] (envision, interact); Effect
You refresh yourself from fatigue. For 10 minutes, you can ignore the penalties from the fatigued condition. This does not remove the condition, it merely suppresses the penalties and drawbacks of having the condition. If something would cause you to become fatigued again while the ring’s power is in effect, the suppression ends, and you immediately take the penalties again.

Stalwart's Ring:

STALWART’S RING ITEM 5
UNCOMMON NECROMANCY INVESTED
Price 160 gp
Usage worn; Bulk —
This fairly simple ring has no gemstone inlaid, but the band is cast to resembled a fanged wolf’s head. Once per day, during your daily preparations, you can meditate on this ring to grant yourself 5 temporary Hit Points. These last until your next daily preparation, as long as you are wearing the ring.

Warrior's Training Ring:

WARRIOR’S TRAINING RING ITEM 5
UNCOMMON DIVINATION INVESTED
Price 160 gp
Usage worn; Bulk —
This ring is utilitarian in design—indicating its martial use. Its band is decorated only with a simple, sharp-edged sculpture on the band’s center. While wearing this ring, you add your level to your attack rolls with all weapons with which you are untrained.
Activate [free-action] (envision); Frequency once per day; Trigger You make an attack with a weapon in which you’re untrained; Effect You gain a +2 circumstance bonus to the attack roll. If you are an expert in any weapon, you instead gain a +4 circumstance bonus to the attack roll.

Frozen Flame + Dragon's Demand

And, 11 months later, that's all she wrote!

Thanks for sticking with it, and hope you had fun!

The chronicle sheet also gives access to the Ranger feats and the fiery leopard animal companion. I'll paste them below so you can refer to it:

RELENTLESS STALKER [reaction] FEAT 2
UNCOMMON
MOVE
RANGER
Trigger An adjacent creature you are hunting attempts to move away from you using an action that has the move trait.
Your hunted prey cannot escape your relentless pursuit. Stride up to your Speed in tandem with the triggering creature, remaining adjacent to the foe throughout its movement until it stops moving or you run out of movement. You can ignore difficult terrain during this movement unless the difficult terrain is caused by a magical effect.

WILDERNESS SPOTTER FEAT 2
UNCOMMON
GENERAL
SKILL
Prerequisite Expert in Survival
Select one type of terrain from the following list: aquatic, arctic, desert, forest, mountain, plains, sky, swamp, or underground. You can use Survival in place of Perception to roll initiative when in the selected terrain in a natural location (not a structure) even if you weren’t tracking or otherwise using Survival before the encounter. You can also use Survival instead of Perception to notice traps in natural locations in the chosen terrain; if you find a snare in this way, you can also use Survival instead of Thievery to Disable the Device.
Special You can select this feat more than once. Each time you select it, the feat applies to a new type of terrain.

FIERY LEOPARD
UNIQUE
Base Animal Companion Cat
Immunities fire; Weaknesses cold 5
Flaming Attacks (fire) The fiery leopard’s natural attacks deal 1 fire damage (in addition to the bonus damage dealt to flat-footed targets). This damage increases to 1d4 when the fiery leopard becomes a nimble or savage animal companion.
Fiery Pelt (fire) Creatures that start their turn grappled by the fiery leopard take 1d4 fire damage. Anyone attempting to grapple the fiery leopard takes 1d4 fire damage for each attempt.
Burning Glow The fiery leopard sheds dim light in a 10-foot radius which gives it a –2 circumstance penalty on Stealth checks made at night or in a dark environment.

Could everyone give me a character to apply the credit to? You get 12 XP and 30 treasure bundles. Could you give me the character number and its level, so I can put the right amount of gold on? It can be applied to any level character.

If everyone is interested in continuing to PBP, I have an idea about what we could do next--I'll send a follow-up email.

Vigilant Seal

Male Goblin Oracle (Flames) 3 | CG | hp 33/33 | AC 18 | F: +6, R +8, W +6 | Perception: +4 Speed: 25 | Conditions: | Spells: 1st 3/3, 2nd 2/2 | Focus Pts: 2/2

Matt, this was so great. Seriously, thanks a million for running this one! I can't believe it's been a year.

For the chronicle sheet, BGG will take the Ring of Minor Arcana. (These items are all very cool.)

Horizon Hunters

”Uhtred” | Male CG Dwarf Barbarian 3 | HP 51/55 | AC 20, 18 w/Rage | Class DC 19 | F: +10, R: +6, W: +9, +1 vs. spells and magic | Perc: +9 | | Speed 25ft | Active Conditions: None

holy crap. I thought the "11 months" comment was massive hyperbole. If you had asked, I would have said we started a little before COVID.

Thanks so much for running it. it was super fun.

In terms of the chronicle. First off, one of my first games with a different character accidentally got reported on Uhtred, so we need to use the number 70775-2003 for Uhtred even though it's a different character name in the system if that's okay.

And if you could put Bort's Blessing on there, that would be great. Thanks!

NG Male Gnome (fey-touched) druid 3 HP 38/38 | AC 16/18 w/raise shield | F +9 R +9 W +11 | Perc +11 | Stealth +7 | | Speed 25ft | Focus 0/2 | Spells Cantrips 7; 1st: 0/3; 2nd 0/2 | Active conditions: None.

Thanks, Matt! Great intro to PF2.

57774-2002 - no name as its an unmade pc.

I have to pick the ring now?

Frozen Flame + Dragon's Demand

I looked back through it. I don't think you have to pick the ring now, but you can only have access to one of the rings, so just make sure you cross off the ones you don't use.

Tim, what character number do you want me to put the chronicle on?
