Natula Icosagon Thako
|
Natula doesn't waste a fireball aiding her allies, not wanting to fry said allies. Instead, she concentrates on discovering the nature of Kalas's distress.
Kalas is pretty bright. He can read several languages, and can identify most obvious threats with his array of knowledge skills. Is this a fear effect (spell or intimidation) and natural predator like and owl that's effecting him? He's not an animal himself anymore. Thanks to being a familiar he's a magical beast, so unnatural stuff doesn't frighten him like it might an regular animal. Also, if he spots something, he can squeak in a way that Natula can understand.

Round 1 (continued)
Ratesh advances to support Konner, simultaneously talking to and trying to kill the figure in the doorway. The blade misses, but the words have more effect.
"Here for loot, are you?" asks the wounded woman. "Well, we were here first, love, and you just broke down the door of our home. You're the "goblins" in this story."
Natula tries to puzzle out what Kalas is afraid of. The bat finally begins to communicate properly, after being initially startled. You're 5th level, but the text in your character sheet hasn't been updated to include "speak with master" so I was assuming you only had empathic connection... sorry!
"All the flat people in the wooden boxes on the walls up here are alive! They're all looking at me, like a hungry eagle. They don't like me!"
Those of you with detect magic up detect a new aura within your range, appearing just now. More info at the appropriate time.
The largest portrait on the wall, the one with the stern man, suddenly animates and points its mace directly at you. Vegoran Thrune, your time has COME! You will trouble the Irricas no more!" The man then shouts a four-syllable word or phrase that is simultaneously too loud and too quiet for you to hear.
A dark winged creature appears beside the man in the portrait, and quickly moves forward and out into the room. A beautiful woman with black feathery wings, she appears as a angel, but dark and terrible. She holds a long sword in her hand, and dives upon you in fury.

Juxian: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

After the fallen angel emerges, a bald man with a full beard emerges from a doorway farther down the hall and levels a heavy crossbow at you. He seems to be waiting to evaluate the situation before shooting. Following him is another woman, similarly armed. Behind them comes a well-dressed but gaunt man with a flask and a broad smile. His sonorous voice continues to echo around the hall as he continues to sing, inspiring his comrades.
Natula and Juxian, you're up! Junko, you can also act at the beginning of Round 2.

Kalas bites the darkness!

Juxian Blakros
|
"Neat trick, but I can do one better. Spots, attack!" Juxian says as he commands his small cat to leap forward and bite the closest foe. He then moves into the square where the erinyes devil is and waves his arms around to show Natula its not real.
Junko Kataribe
|
Upon realizing the illusory nature of the fallen angel, and noticing the sudden entrance of several people who are clearly not ghosts at all, Junko quickly passes from fear to confusion to anger. Her face screwed up in concentration, she takes hold of that emotional turbulence, focuses it, and flings it at the singing man. We'll see how you deal with mind games.
Seeing Natula flailing away at the fake creature, Junko steps toward the wizard, speaking in reassuring tones. "It's not real, Natula! It can't hurt any of us."
Daze targeting T, DC 20. Move 1 square South.

Round 1 (continued)
Natula and Kalas both attack the empty air in front of them. They both seem to be attacking different spaces, indicating that the effect is inside their own mind. Natula manages to shake off the effect at the end of her turn, but Kalas is not so lucky.
Juxian orders his cat forward to attack. As the animal moves into the grand hall, two crossbows fire as one. A - crossbow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13A - damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8Q - crossbow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22Q - damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 One bolt hits Spots square in the chest.
Spots continues on despite his injury, biting the woman badly. (But maybe not as badly as first thought... why is Spots using Dex for damage? Should be Strength for damage, as Weapon Finesse only uses Dex to hit?)
| GM Lamplighter |
Round 2
Junko casts her spell at the singer. Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 He shakes his head with a smile and calls out, "You'll have to do better than that, deary! Ayle, Quinn - finish the cat and then show our other guests out."
At the other end of the house, Jaym steps back and reloads her crossbow, watching Konner intently.
Bella then attacks Konner with her hand axes. "Cut me, will ya, pretty boy?" hand axe #1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9damage #1: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6hand axe #2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19damage #2: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 Konner parries the first attack and ripostes, leaving a long gash on Bella's arm. Bella's second attack misses, and she staggers out of the doorway, bleeding badly. (5' step, no AoO)
Konner, Ratesh, Natula/Kalas, you are up!
Konner Therinor

Konner slides to his left to allow Ratesh to move into position. He slashes at the man in front of him, not worried about the wounded female. He readies a return strike if needed.

Ratesh waves his hands in a precise pattern while muttering a magical incantation.

We are not here to loot either. We were sent to investigate some potential oddities in this house. I think we’ve found some.

Round 2 (continued)
Note: moved icons slightly, as I forgot to slip Bella 5' north. Konner, you can't diagonal through the wall so I also moved you - you end up adjacent to the same two people. Ratesh, moved you 5' per your instructions.
Konner attacks the woman with the crossbow, but she dodges out of the way.
Ratesh casts his spell and moves forward, a multitude of duplicates moving and speaking with him.
"Oddities, is it?" grimaces the wounded woman. "Isn't that nice, Jaym? Breaks into our house, has the enrve to call us odd."
Natula is up! Kalas again attacks the space in front of him

Round 2 (continued)
Kalas attacks a point in space just above him, near the ceiling.
Quinn drops his crossbow and moves to put himself between the attacking cat and his leader, the man they call Tavetti. "You got it, boss," he grunts, drawing a pair of wicked-looking axes. "Sorry, kitty, you go bye-bye!" But the man misses both times.

Tavetti continues to sing, exhorting his comrades to drive these thieves from their home. He pauses only to caress Ayle's back, healing her wounds. cure light wounds: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Natula, you made your save last round, so you can act this round - I delayed you to here, but you can jump in when you wish.
Juxian is up, and Junko can do round 3 actions.
Juxian Blakros

Juxian takes half of the damage from spots (5) and he takes the other 6.
Juxian winces just a little as one of the cuts from the axe transfers to his body from Spots'. He then moves over to Spots and casts Divine Favor on him, "You know, you could just surrender, or we can hopefully try to knock you out before healing you to consciousness."
No one else is hurt yet, right?

I think it's just you and Spots, they haven't managed to hit anyone else yet.
Junko stands her ground and begins a series of arcane gestures, punctuated with a snap of her fingers. Blinding golden dust explodes out from behind Tavetti, covering him and his goons.
Glitterdust, DC17, centered 1 square W of Tavetti.

All of my posts seem to go through a tumble dry period, disappear after I post them, and show up a minute later for real, meaning that posts made immediately after somehow show up first. I'm pretty sure it is a messageboard-wide issue.
"So why are we killing you all again, Baldy?" asks the wizard of her victim in her fried voice.
| GM Lamplighter |
Huh. You'd think forums aren't really bleeding-edge technology any more, and this didn't happen in the past. Oh, well - I'll be careful over round breaks.
Quinn looks up at the sound of Natula's voice, his blind eyes searching the room. "I don't know. Nobody comes here 'cuz of the ghosts, and you're not Isgeri or goblins, so I guess you's just bandits like us. But we never kill people jes' for fun like this."

She seems to be readying another killing stroke (not that her foe can see it coming).

In that case I'd like to take a different action. Moving 6 squares West.

If Quinn is defenseless, Juxian will order spots to guard Quinn from both his party and to keep him in place.
"Oh for the love of Pharasma. Snuff me now."

Yeah, as a GM, I update the initiative tracker with status info every time more characters can act. Its a definitely extra work, but it helps make things clear between rounds rather than each player having to read each individual post to decide on their actions. Up to you though, I just got confused on what exactly was happening, but that might also be because this is only one of many of my games I'm currently in.
Juxian moves down towards the other room to see what's going on down there, "We took care of things over here, whats happening there? IF you're fighting someone, tell them to surrender, everyone else is unconscious or has already given up."
Junko Kataribe

Junko lets out a sigh of relief and gives Natula a nod of thanks. Turning to Quinn, she says, "I'm going to cast a spell that will help keep you safe. Don't try to fight it off and everything will be okay. Do you understand?"
