GM Mjolbeard
Welcome and thanks for signing up for this run of "Pact World Warriors" for Gameday VIII folks!
First off, I'd like to introduce myself a bit to those of you who haven't played with me before. I'm GM Mjolbeard. I've been playing SFS since its debut, much of which has included PBP as a venue. I highly value the game, and love to do as much as I can to throw in a lot of role-play with my roll-play, as the saying goes. With that in mind, here are a few expectations that I will hold for myself as well as my players in this game:
In order to make sure I am sticking as close as possible to the way you would want your character to be played, please include Botting Instructions in your character's profile, including descriptions of your usual strategies and dice macros for your most common combat actions.
We will begin play with the start of Gameday VIII on August 26, but in the meantime, please do me a favor and post the information for your character requested below using the template I've provided. This will make things easier for me when it comes time for reporting and putting together chronicles, so this is for your benefit too! You can also dot in on the Gameplay thread with your character of choice.

I have dotted in, but FYI, I will be doing a level 1 rebuild after GenCon and before we start, so the current profile does not match the character who will be participating.

Looks like this game is going low-tier and I would rather not play out of tier. Will be withdrawing from this game.
(Mjolbeard, signed up for another game of yours instead. Could you make me as inactive? Thanks!)

When is the start date for the game? I still need to get Elwin levelled here...
GM Mjolbeard
We'll be starting on Monday, August 26--that's in only five days!!!
Over the next couple days, I'll be getting our Google Slides for the scenario set up so we can be ready to roll on Monday. In meantime, if you all want to hop into Gameplay and start chatting/talking about what your PCs are doing pre-briefing, feel free to do so!
I'm looking forward to playing with you all very soon!

Hey folks! In case you somehow missed it, the Online OP team has decided to postpone the start of Gameday VIII until September 9, due to delays in scenario support for the GMs. I can attest that, personally, I did not get my copy of this scenario until earlier this week, which, while it would be theoretically possible for me to prep in time for the start of the convention on Monday, is not an amount the amount of time I'd prefer to have.
So what do we do in the meantime?
Well, a couple of you have already checked in with your character information--thank you! Now that that part is done, feel free to go ahead and hop into the Gameplay thread and introduce yourselves to one another in character.
Thanks for your patience during this delay, folks! Looking forward to playing with you in September!

Go to your character and edit it.
There is a big box toward the bottom. Place info in there. There are some templates around. I get mine from Poblano Pepper. I will link it here for your perusal.
GM Mjolbeard
Hey folks! Sorry for the slow start, but things have gotten exceedingly and unexpectedly busy. I won't be able to post until tomorrow to move us along.
To make sure we don't have any big delays like this moving forward, I'm going to be working on pre-writing some posts for more story-based scenes like this.
Apologies again, and thanks for your patience!

Just an FYI. I'm headed out of town tomorrow early morning and will be back Sunday evening some time. I'll have wifi access but have a busy schedule so may be slow responding. Please bot me if needed.

My wife and I have made the snap decision to have a night away tonight. It should not impact too much, but just in case you need to bot me.

Our GM, I believe.
I will be leaving for a week starting Tuesday. I doubt that I will have an opportunity to check in. I'll see if my botting profile is up to date by the end of tomorrow.
GM Mjolbeard
Hey guys! Very sorry. It's been a stupid week and a half. I'm gonna give this another serious effort, but I know I'm going to have another pretty busy couple weeks starting Friday.
With that in mind, here's my commitment: I will give it my absolute best effort to post at least once a day, though this might often have to be pretty plain in content (I hope I've given you some indication by now that I like to actually give my posts some character). If I'm not able to maintain a 1/day posting rate, I will attempt one post every two days, sometimes excluding weekends, as that's ironically a more difficult time for me to get posts in. If I can't keep up a 1 post/2 days posting rate, I will seek another GM for you guys, as I don't want to leave you all in the lurch with your characters stalled in a scenario and without the credit and potential boons you deserve.
I know how crappy it can be to get stuck like this as a player, and I apologize for my lackluster performance as your GM. I am committed to making sure you guys get your credit, though, so let's do this!

Okay, so Khwam is in a pool of lava.
1. Where is he on the map? might help if one of us try to save him.
2. What is the distance from the lava to the platform? Are the platforms raised several feet above the lava, or are they popping out of the lava by like a foot?
GM Mjolbeard
1. I moved Khwam's token into the lava where he would have fallen in. You certainly do have the option to work together to help Khwam out.
2. The scenario doesn't really specify, but it does note that it is only a DC5 Athletics check to climb out of the lava and onto a platform, so I'm going to agree that the platforms are sticking just a foot or so above the surface of the lava.
Bear in mind, Khwam will continue to take damage from the lava each round, so even if he spends a Resolve to stabilize, he will immediately take damage again and will once again be dying. I'll roll the damage at the end of Khwam's turn, so he'll have a chance to stabilize each round. Even if he does stabilize, though, he might still die from massive damage if the lava deals more damage than his maximum HP total. He only has 10 HP, and the lava damage is 3d6, so it's very possible for him to die outright if he doesn't get help.
Now that we have the stakes stated a little more clearly, let's see what you guys come up with!

I'm going to be at a local convention this coming weekend. I have a pretty busy schedule so may not be checking in much. Please feel free to bot me. I hope our lava diver is out by then. :)

Busy day at work today. Will get a post up this evening (in the next few hours).

No winners this time! Sorry folks.
GM Mjolbeard
I'd like to add a personal note of gratitude to Khwam's player for his graciousness around Khwam's death, as well as regret that it happened in the first place. I hope you feel I gave ample opportunity for Khwam to survive the encounter, and that you feel he went out in a way that was true to the character.
I'd also like to express my admiration for the other players who did everything they could to go back and help Khwam as long as possible, even going as far as risking their own PCs' safety to do what they could to help.
This has been a very drawn out play experience, largely due to my personal delays, but you all have held strong and made this a great game so far, and I look forward to finishing strong with all of you!
With all that being said, we also haven't heard from Rich in quite a while (over a month now). I sent him a PM a couple weeks ago and haven't heard back. With that in mind, I am going to drop him from the scenario so there won't be any burden of having to bot him on myself or any of you.
We'll pick up with the next challenge once I get a check in post from everyone letting me know what you're doing during the break. PLEASE NOTE: If I don't hear from you that you're spending the time and RP to heal up, you will not be considered to have full health for any future challenges. Please make sure you know where you are at with HP and SP. I think everyone took damage at some point in the obstacle course. Make sure you're accounting for it.

Hey Khwam... if you want to save the character I can spare some fame to help if needed. I'm finding that I'm not really spending any on any of my Starfinder characters. :)
Elwin the Technomancer
|
Cool. One adventure in isn't bad. I know it's possible to be really into the character by then though. :)
GM Mjolbeard
Ziamat, do you have a special ability that allows your staff's block property to function even on a missed attack? Based on how I'm reading the description for that weapon property, it sounds like you only get the boost to AC on a hit with the weapon.
When you successfully strike a target with a melee attack using such a weapon, you gain a +1 enhancement bonus to your AC for 1 round against melee attacks from that target.
Because the word "successfully" is included in that description, I would interpret the property as functioning only when you hit your target, since missing your target would pretty clearly be considered an unsuccessful strike. Let me know if you have some additional information I'm missing, or if you have some other ability that allows the block property to work every time.
Thanks!
GM Mjolbeard
Okay! Just making sure I'm not missing out. I've got a PC that takes advantage of the Block property as well, and I'd love if he could get that benefit every time he attacked with it! :)
