Season of Ghosts

^Thanks for the notice Abaal!

And speaking of notices, I'll be out of town at AVL Scarefest from the 17th through the 21st. While I'm not booked solid on events and will have my Chromebook with me I have no idea what the internet situation will be so things may be slow until I get home.

Well, there is this one girl in our pool....

And actually, they are pretty big places in this court, and I was selected for the jury pool (of about fifty), but unless they speed things up, I probably won't know if I am on an actual jury, or not until tomorrow. So more jury duty.

Like Hanlin, I've never even been notified. Maybe because I've moved every two years on average, was in the military, have lived overseas, and now am homeless (in a good way.)

I'll be at PaizoCon Asia-Pacific (aka PaizoCon Oz) in Brisbane this weekend, so limited posting from here for a couple days also, sorry.

Season of Ghosts

Thanks guys! Akazim, I hope you have fun at PaizoCon Oz and Abaal, I hope things pass as painlessly as possible. I had to go maybe 4 or 5 years ago and actually did get selected for one case (drug bust) but thankfully eliminated for the second (murder trial; I knew the defense lawyer since he was my dad's friend).

Also I'd hoped to make an update tonight before bed but the internet is being sluggish and uncooperative and my patience is limited. Sorry :(

Season of Ghosts

I'm back from beautiful Montreat, NC!

(Technically I got back late Sunday night but spent the majority of yesterday wrenching my sleep schedule back around and visiting with some family who were in from California.)

Had a great time at the convention, though!

Tsamara even got to go on an adventure; perhaps she'll tell you guys about it when/if you return :)

True you are. I guess I was trying to do too much with Hanlin. Making him focused on channeling AND trying to be more melee oriented. He needs more help with feats to get there vs just $$$.

Man if only clerics got more skill ranks! 2.0 likely made some major improvements in that area for them.

Remember, against tough bosses, you can aid (attack or AC) while providing a flanker, and just stand there being hard to hit, or having lots of hit points, or some combination of the two. Pietro is not super awesome in a fight (like Abaal), but he helps where he can, and has been crucial to the party's success (in Thornkeep) thus far.

As for skills, have you considered the cardinal archetype? You'll take a hit to your AC, but you can recoup some of it with feats. Alternatively, you can use one of those feats for Cunning. You could probably retrain Extra Channel for that, or Weapon Focus, or one of those skill buffs like Persuasive, or something--I doubt Hanlin often has to use those last two channels anyhow--though I might be wrong about that given his channeling flexibility. Even still, he would be king of Channelling with all of the other feats he has invested. Clerics have a little more freedom stat-wise than most full casting classes since they can concentrate on casting spells only on allies who won't resist, and so do not need huge Wisdom scores, so it's possible to start with a 14 or 15 (as it looks like Hanlin might have), and still be a good cleric, but if you want to be a cleric and fight, and be face/super channeller, and be clever, that's probably one hurdle too far. Even the Daring Swordsman of Katapesh™ would be hard-pressed to do all that.

Ingrge:
So I heard that your Reign of Winter game is loosing its GM. How was it? I have to admit I have wanted to run bits of this since I first read it. Has it been a good run thus far? Would you say it is worth a read (all 3.2k+ posts)?

If you folks still want to play you might want to rally support for it in the thread linked above. Loads of GMs hang out there. There, and maybe rev-up the thread's own recruitment thread.

Eesh losing BA and armor prof medium would be rough wanting to be up front.

Some scenarios I've certainly blown through those channels, especially in tight times with quick channel or channeling for damage. You can never have too many channels!

The other points are true, I didn't stack his Wisdom so I could spread it into CHA and some physical stats.

Abaal:
I had fun playing it...was slow-paced but we had good roleplayers that gave the game a good feel. The first book was a killer though; we lost two PCs to death, one on the first encounter. We had several other encounters where 3+ PCs were knocked unconscious and barely survived. I think every PC was KO'ed at one time or another. We had 4 players drop out, a couple due to thinking the AP was too hard and actively trying to kill us...

I think it'll be hard to find a replacement GM to commit to a full AP...think we might find one to finish out the book since we're halfway through it...also wouldn't surprise me if it died out right here. Still I enjoyed it and it did last a verh long while.

I think much of it would be a good read, particularly the bloody start to it and most of Quasit's posts; she's a great roleplayer and funny to boot. Without her, not sure if it would've made it this far as she filled in a lot of RP between the sometime long breaks between GM posts...

Temp in the 30's? Yeah, it was almost that warm here. Oh, you mean Fahrenheit. Cause I'm thinking in Celsius while sitting on a beach in Thailand. :)

Seriously, though, I am totally disappointed that we didn't trigger the haunt in the basement *on* Halloween.

Season of Ghosts

Thank you! And hopefully not; DH already asked the seller today if there were any ghosts or bodies in the backyard that we needed to know about so we got that covered.

Re: Beaches - Sure, rub it in >:|

Re: Haunt - Alas, this one had a more specific trigger specification than just 'happen to wander close enough' and it was not met. Once the scenario is finished I'll tell you guys all about it. But don't worry, there are plenty of other fun things for you guys to encounter.

Or are there?

I was in Kyoto earlier this year and visited the Tokugawa Shogun's castle. The room you describe is very similar to the Ohiroma, which was an audience hall for the Shogun to conduct meetings with the feudal lords. He would kneel or sit on the raised area, and the lords would kneel on the lower portion which was technically considered a separate room.

You can check out the official web site for Nijo Castle and look at item 4. The photo shows the raised area fairly clearly.

And for those still hatin' on my Thailand beach post, I'm now in Anchorage, Alaska. It's just barely 30 Fahrenheit here. Boooo! Off to chilly Korea tomorrow, then toasty Guam the next day.

Wow, that's really cool! Thank you for the link!

And nah, not actually hatin' - but it's fun to tease from time to time. While a beach trip is always nice I actually prefer milder weather for day-to-day living; mid 60s to mid 70s Fahrenheit is my jam.

Yep, you guessed it. I'm a pilot. I fly the 747 for a cargo company. You've not likely heard of us, but we haul a lot of stuff for DHL and Amazon, also for the military, and during the holidays we provide extra lift for both UPS and FedEx.

I'm also intentionally homeless, hence the moniker Nomadical. At this company we get our days off in 10 to 14 day blocks, so I just go somewhere and stay in a hotel until it's time to go back to work. Yeah, hotels ain't cheap, but I'm not also paying rent or a mortgage somewhere else - the cost of my hotel on the beach in Thailand, or those days touring Kyoto or Tokyo, or wherever(!) is my rent.

Jet lag is for the weak! Nah, I do get it some, but surprisingly not at work. Jet lag only happens when you have to adjust to local time from your normal acclimated time zone. When we're working we don't try to adjust to the local time in the city that we're only in for 20 hours or so. Why bother? I don't have to go to meetings with clients, or catch the tour bus right after breakfast, or go to a concert or event in the evening. The local time zone doesn't matter. I just have to be rested for the next flight, so I nap, workout, eat and sleep as needed during the layover regardless of the local time of day.

It's not a lifestyle for everyone. I don't personally get lonely, but I also can't have a girlfriend, much less a family or even a pet. (Full disclosure: I'm in my 50's, my kids are grown, and my ex and I are amicably divorced.) If I ever find the 'perfect' place or the perfect partner I'll settle down. Until then, it's off to the next horizon....!

I had some trouble finding a good visual representation of the architecture in the atrium but imagine that it kinda looks something like this. The garden part sits a little lower than the rest of the house since it's actually open to the elements on one side, with the raised walkway running around the perimeter that allows access to other parts of the house at ground level and then leads upward to the second floor balcony.

Actually, in the Wounded Wisp it is the home of an illusionist so you could make the argument that he never really lived there--it was all an illusion! ;) Plus, it makes sense, he was a gnome--why all the human-sized fixtures? If I where three-and-half feet tall, I'd want a house built to my proportions so that when big folks showed up they would always be banging their heads on my chandeliers. Season of Ghosts

I believe it would likely have worn off by now; you guys were still checking out the dining hall/kitchen area when you cast it and since then you found the cellar/basement/torture chamber, rescued Seiko, secured her in the guard room, and have went through another couple of (small) rooms and then encountered the wayang just now. I'd say all of that took more than 9 minutes to accomplish :)

For future reference, when Akazim gives you Bane X, you can add +3 to your attacks and 2d6+3 to damage (I'm assuming that all your primary weapons are at least +1 magical already.)

Normally Bane increases the enhancement bonus of the affected weapon by 2, so your +1 sword becomes a +3 sword, thereby adding +2 extra to the attack, and also doing +2 more damage. Most people forget about the extra +2 damage and focus on the 2d6.

But, wait, there's more! The occultist power, Legacy Weapon, lets him add Bane along with an additional +1 (stacking!) enhancement bonus. That's where the +3 in the first paragraph comes from.

He could instead grant a different +1 equivalent weapon quality, like Ghost Touch, Merciful, or Shock, for example, and still add that extra +1. Or he could grant a +2 quality like Flaming Burst or Disrupting instead but without the bonus +1. But Bane tends to be the most powerful unless a specific situation requires something else.

So, for the record, since he only added the 2d6, Ingrge actually did 3 more damage per successful attack (and the attack rolls in his post should each be +3 higher) during his 2nd attack round (the only one after being Bane-boosted.)

So! Gameday officially ends a week from today. While you guys don't actually have a huge amount left to explore, it's doubtful that we'll finish right on time. But we shouldn't run over for very long, either!

Anyway, per instructions from on high I'll be reporting the game soon so I'll need your reporting information if you haven't already posted it *and* I need everyone to roll for boons! A 19 or 20 wins you a shiny new boon; if you win please roll a 1d3 to determine which boon you'll be receiving and be sure to PM me your email address so we can send said boon to you.
