A discussion.
What characters is everyone bringing?
Also, I talked to Morrolan and they are out for this one, so I invited one of my friends to hop in the 6th spot. Hope no one minds!

So I can play a Spellslinger 1, a spiritualist (scourge) 2, or a druid 4 if we play high tier. But I thought we would play low tier.

GM MattMorris |

I think it would be more fun if we did low tier, as long as everyone has characters.
Also, in case you were checking it out, this scenario has horrible reviews, but I had a lot of fun when I played it, so I didn't even think to check. I think it will actually translate very well to PBP, since a lot of the complaints were about the adventure trying to do too much in the allotted time.

![]() |

I think I'll bring Bask Rahid, a level 2 Divine hunter (the divine hunter hunter, not the divine hunter paladin!), a follower of Sarenrae from the deserts of Thuvia.
My only other low-level is a level 1 wizard who was heavily inspired by the picture of the librarian from the last scenario (and as an exploiter wizard by Not-Trixie), but I've been planning to GM credit her up to at least 2, level 1 wizards can be a bit dull.

![]() |

Well we could be a lot of wizards as I think really take my lvl 1 wizard (spellslinger).

![]() |

Might I suggest my spell-warrior skald then? He loves having more allies to spread his weapon song to (and who doesn't love getting a +1 enhancement?), and he can help cover spells, knowledges, and social interactions.

![]() |

I'll need to build this guy and get his info into the website, should be able to get that done in the next 36 hours.

GM MattMorris |

Sorry, my last week at work for the school year and it has been hectic.
So far we have:
Waze - spellslinger 1
Barrabas - alchemist 1
Benedict - shaman 2
Jahz - skald 2
Missing Tholgrin and Tsura, I think. Let me hit them with a PM.

![]() |

For low tier I have a ghostrider cavalier 3 or a melee 2 (fighter or grappler, I haven't committed to one yet)

![]() |

we've got skills, support, casting, range moderately covered. i think you could do either, Tsura. grappler would be absolutely brutal with me up front on a single target.

Beyond the cavalier it's a question of which GM baby do I want to commit to for what will almost surely be my last 1e character.

![]() |

Don't forget:
Bask - hunter 2
I played Tholgrin in the last games

Sorry, don't know how I missed you. Chalk it up to grading/writing-related fatigue.

If you aren't ready to commit yet, I think the cavalier would also be great. Not a lot of wide-open spaces in this adventure, though, if that effects your choices.

Nobody to heal? I don't possess any wand of CLW this time. I invested in a wand of Mage armor.

![]() |

Benedict can use CLW wands, but isn't built to be a great healer.

![]() |

And so can Jahz! So while I doubt we'll be healing each other in combat much, we should be well-covered to patch each other up outside of encounters.

![]() |

I think I am going to go with the cavalier, who is level 2 after all. Everyone, please say hi to Deadman Robb, sulky cavalier.

GM MattMorris |

Sounds like we are all set. I'll get things started either today or tomorrow.

![]() |

Traveling from now until next Thursday - have internet but will lack reliable time to post so bot as necessary.

![]() |

Heads up - I will be at a convention Friday through Sunday. As the sun doesn’t set up here in the summer, neither do the games stop. I will post when possible, but at a slower rate than usual. Please don’t hesitate to bot me after 24 hours if I haven’t posted.

GM MattMorris |

Hey all. I'm leaving for GenCon in the morning and my schedule during the con is pretty packed.
Brief pause until Monday! See y'all on the other side.

![]() |

Headed out of town tomorrow for a week, so feel free to bot me if I can help with the auction in any way!

Right, shall we make a plan of action? It could really bog down the game if we keep stopping to confer with each other, and one player bidding "recklessly" could make everyone else sad. We have a grand total of 14,000 gp to spend.
So, this is what we have to work with:
1) Bracers of divine range 2,500 gp
2) Clockwork statue of Brigh 1,000 gp
3) Phylactery of faithfulness 500 gp
4) Kelksiomedes’s grape trellis 2,500 gp
5) Staff of healing, minor 4,400 gp
6) Eldas’s platinum drafting tools 1,500 gp
7) Incense of meditation 1,650 gp
8) Golden statue of Ra 5,000 gp
9) Shard of the Shattered Shield of Arnisant 5,000 gp
Baseline prices add up to 24,050 gp - too much for our budget. So we have to pick and choose.
We could aim for "named" items that might be more unique than the others...
1) Bracers of divine range 2,500 gp
2) Clockwork statue of Brigh 1,000 gp
3) Phylactery of faithfulness 500 gp
4) Kelksiomedes’s grape trellis 2,500 gp

7) Incense of meditation 1,650 gp
8) Golden statue of Ra 5,000 gp
9) Shard of the Shattered Shield of Arnisant 5,000 gp
Bold baseline prices add up to 15,000 gp - again too much.
...or prioritize quantity over quality...

Thoughts?

![]() |

I lied - I have a thought!
Starting from the bottom of the list and working our way upward, how much do we need to guarantee we have "in the bank" after that item? If we have more than that amount, we should be able to bid on the current item.
So, for example, we could decide that we want to bid on #6, but only if we have more than 8,000 gp left to spend total when it comes to the auction block because we don't care about #7, but we want a big safety net to ensure we get #8.
Does that make sense? This would probably be simpler in a F2F game, but here we actually have time to think things through.
PS. Another terrible thought - if we "encourage" other bidders to go for the items we decide we don't want, that means less bidding on the items we do want.

![]() |

So how much do we want to "bank" for the Shattered Shield Shard?
A. 5,000 gp
B. 5, 500 gp
C. 6,000 gp
D. 6,500 gp
E. 7,000 gp
F. 7,500 gp
G. 8,000 gp
H. 8,500 gp
I. 9,000 gp
J. 9,500 gp
K. 10,000 gp

![]() |

That sounds fine as a baseline, though we should be able to play it by ear too a little. If there are bidders who are saving all their cash for the shield maybe we should hold more back etc.

![]() |

F. has the most votes, so that's 7,500 gp banked for the Shard. For the rest, it'll take a long time to do them one-by-one here. I've made a quick survey we can all fill out here - please fill it out as quickly as possible!

![]() |

That's a great idea, thank you, I have also voted. I do think we should interrupt the auction to confront the imposter though; we know someone is spreading a magical disease on religious artifacts and this seems a good way to do it. We could prevent an outbreak.
However Bask is a loyal Pathfinder and knows he's not very experienced, so will stand down if no-one else agrees.

![]() |

I appreciate that, but my character has been asked to collect as many artifacts as possible from the auction. Perhaps we can interrupt right before the Shard goes to the block? Regardless, it might be a good idea to handle everything here with gloves.

GM MattMorris |

Gloves duly noted. Let me know how the voting turns out and we'll handle it that way. I'll let you know if you are able to get stuff for less and give you the opportunity to counter-bid on anything that the other NPCs are interested in.
Thanks for putting the survey together!

![]() |

Yes, I also think we should secure as many artifacts as possible and then interrupt right before the shard. It won't goes away flying anyway.
