Ought we jump as well? I'm not sure if this attack was framed as a way to further spoil our reputation, but it surely seems like that

“We just left a meeting with First Speaker Phi and were returning to our inn when we were ambushed by several bowmen, an elemental, and someone rather skilled in the use of magic. Our escort jumped into the river at the start of the attack, in retrospect he seems to have been complicit. The bowmen were hiding in the wagon, the elemental was apparently part of the bridge, and I never managedr to see where the magic user was hiding. If you don’t mind Captain I think i need to sit down for a minute, the elemental has left me quite battered.”

Danesh arrives several minutes later with a group of well equipped guardsmen and a few individuals that you guess are spell casters.
Shaking his head ruefully, Danesh-I take my eyes off of you for just the smallest of moments...
He hears your description of the battle-Sounds like someone wants you out of the way of whatever comes next; with prejudice apparently. City politics would usually start with a bribe so my guess is this isn't a Council faction, but you can never be entirely sure I guess.
Make your way back to where the Inn. I still have to reach out to my contacts to see if they know anything that might help us. Don't leave the city, but you are free to move about as you like. Although I would advise you to be cautious. Whoever tried to kill you here will likely do so again.
There are plenty more street thugs to be hired to try and find a blade in your bellies.

The well dressed man looks entirely unfamiliar to you.
After some opening pleasantries where he offers to buy you a meal or some other morning repast he leans intently forward, watching the party's faces as he speaks in a pleasant, almost soothing, voice-You have all attracted quite a bit of attention in Sothis and I hear are in possession of an item of incredible value. The group I represent would be extremely interested in acquiring this item and are prepared to make each of you quite wealthy in exchange for it.
Amarth Nuin Giliath

Amarth feels that he is sincere in his offer.
The man beams at her, a broad smile filling his face-I proudly represent the local offices of the Aspis Consortium. While we are based in Cheliax, we have deep roots here in Osirion and local agents, such as myself, are always on the lookout for opportunities that successful adventurers may provide our firm. I am happy to provide references to you if the will make a difference, but our largest reference will be the amount of money that you can transact.
Amarth Nuin Giliath
“Well I would love to know what your offer is and where we can reach you, as I am sure we would take a bit of time to mull things over and see what other interest parties might come forward.”
What do we know about the Apsis Consortium?
Do they have an HQ in the city?
Let me know if you want knowledge rolls.

The man looks about suspiciously to see if anyone is listening in. Seeing that nothing is amiss he leans in and says quietly-We are prepared to pay each of you the sum of one hundred thousand gold crowns for the delivery of the scepter you unearthed in the depths of the desert. Please think it over during the next few days and reach out to my office with an answer.
He tells you where the office is in Sothis and waits to see if you have any final questions before leaving you to your business.
The Aspis Consortium is loyal to no government, having members from many countries and nationalities. This also allows them to take neutral positions in any disagreements and appeal to all sides. These tactics have allowed the Aspis Consortium to grow to be the largest and most diverse business venture in both Avistan and Garund. Their total assets are rumored to be in the tens of millions of gold pieces.
You can make some history or local knowledge rolls if you are trained in them.

Amarth recalls that the Aspis Consortium was founded almost 200 years ago after an extremely profitable trading voyage from Westcrown in Cheliax to Sothis in Osirion and back. The Consortium used those profits to fuel their hold in Cheliax and spread their strength further throughout Golarion. They benefited greatly from Cheiax's power but have suffered somewhat from the rise of the diabolists there and seek to spread the base of their power beyond Cheliax to as many other ports and trading centers as possible. They are known to be incredibly wealthy but it is rumored that sometimes their agent's methods are less than honorable.
Amarth Nuin Giliath
After he leaves, quietly to the group:
“We’re in the fire now boys, i don’t think the consortium will look kindly upon us if we decline their offer if you understand what I mean. I hope Danesh comes up with something soon.”
